@@MDFishTanks fair play. Incredible year of content from you boss. Set ups have been amazing, plus your edits and overall production has improved immensely too. Well done & thank you
Even though the shrimp don't need a heater, I think the fact that your studio is heated is still good for the plants. All my Rotala withered away after winter and are now just making a comeback in Summer lol. I thought they all died and trimmed them off, but it seems there were some roots still left in the soil so the Rotala has now come back up. I've since put in a heater in my Rotala tank so they don't die next winter again.
ive grown rotala and all other plants as low as 12c before with no problems so I don't think it was the temp that killed your plants. Sounds like low nutrients, they stopped growing, nutrients built back up and away they went again?
@@MDFishTanks An interesting idea. I did use aqua soil, and other plants were growing. Eitherway now that these new ones grew fresh from the root I'm hoping they're now more resilient or more adapted to my tank conditions.
Dragonstone is a clay-based rock, which means it's a little more brittle than other rocks. It's loaded with minerals due to being clay based and my best guess is that it very slowly puts those minerals into the water. It seems to me that neocaridina do really well in mineral rich waters. I could be totally wrong in that, but any time I've seen people combine aquasoil with dragonstone, it works out really well.
I have been waiting for either you or Matt to try to put one of these bowls on your head. And today you did not disappoint! (It was a real "Spaceman" moment) 😂🤣 Proper haemoglobin red shrimp and another awe inspiring set up! Happy New Year PS : Been watching you from the beginning in your shed. Have really enjoyed your journey over the last few years. Your enthusiasm is infectious and your love of planted aquariums and their many inhabitants shines through. As do your combined projects and comradery with Matt. Look forward to seeing you do many more in the future.
Oh my - I had visions of you getting the bowl on your head but not being able to take it off. Brilliant! Your videos will need to start carrying the message “please do not try this at home”.
I’ve been going back and fourth about starting a shrimp only setup, and if I wanted to do it in a small nano cube, bowl or cylinder. But I just think this bowl looks amazing! I may have to copy the setup, but I’m thinking of using a different light. Amazing work as ever! I would love to see a tank that is setup for a corner view, as the next one I want to setup in my office will be a black water nano cube in the corner of my desk. Yet I want it to look good when walking into the office, and when I sit at my desk and can see it from the side. Please do a corner setup soon so I can get some tips!
I moved hornwort outside into my goldfish tub, it was 40 degrees outside when I went and pulled everything and I found tons of live Neos, I must have had a few hitch a ride and reproduce over the summer and they were still alive at 40 degrees F
Great result once again. Thanks for the enthusiasm and dedication you showed (not only) this year. As for the fish in bowls, I stuck with a hard no for myself over the years and only keep shrimps and snails, even in my 30l cubes and around that size. I am sure some small fish can work in a larger bowl and volume in a sustainable setup but this is where I see most of the problems. E.g you put thoughts into your projects and have a long-time experience in filterless or small ecosystem setups - but that's still a rare thing out there I feel. Most of the times I associate these 'tanks' with horrible gold fish or betta setups, so yeah that's offputting aswell 😅 But a bowl can be a thing as you showed, kudos and happy 2023!
thank you. Yeah, goldfish ...no, shrimp, snails and small nano fish, I see no issue. To be honest, if the bowl is big enough, I don't think it would be bad for a betta. I might put my gopro inside so we can see what the fish she. That will be the aswer.
@@MDFishTanks there was a "social media fish rule" that the distortion from the curvature in bowls somehow harmed fish. The size is more of an issue, as lower water volume is more susceptible to swings in parameters. My experience over the decades, is fish are less likely to harm themselves in round containers, and it is easier to recreate conditions for strong flow in round containers. That being said, I agree that few people are willing to pay sufficient attention to initial set-up to ensure long term health of small volume tanks. 🤷♂️ You have done an incredible job, the contrast between the reds and greens/plants and hardscape is absolutely gorgeous.
such a beautiful set up. You have inspired me to try this for myself. I've watched so many of your videos. I've finally convinced my wife to let me start getting the equipment piece by piece lol
