My recent visit to a Mercedes dealership near me yielded an honest opinion from a Service Writer I had showing my around the showroom and the lot: When I mentioned that my wife wants a G550, or G63, he listened and said nothing. When I said, "Maybe, someday!! All I want right now is an S550" he said, "The G-Klasse is really cramped inside and they are in the shop pretty often as well".

And he’s right, and you making a better choice with S. none of my friends who has G, can’t explain why they bought it. Even some of them got it couple years ago for over 220k(when market was insane) and now it’s with $110, still pretending it as an amazing/best car ever built. Maybe when you have enough numbers just to buy one and keep it, you don’t care about quality or depreciation. Mind set I would like to get one day🙂‍↔️
