      When my horse is walked to the end of the barn he pulls to get to the gate. When you open the gate he wants to take off before I take the lead and halter off. Is so excited to get back out to the other horses. One day he drug one of the barn helpers trying to put him out.

    This came in handy for me today because, as a newbie to horsemanship/rope halters, I needed a reminder of how to tie it! Thank you!

    Good Video. When I looked at rope halters, I would see a messy bundle of rope. It took me a long time to work my halter in so that it fell into shape. I love the demonstration - Thanks

  • @RockinJFarrier
    @RockinJFarrier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The correct way is to hold the long side of the halter over the top of his neck and then pull the halter up to and over his nose with it. A horse could hit you with his head or pull away while your flipping the long side over to tie it. If they won’t let you put the nose band on you have no control over what he can do. I watch people struggle getting their halters on daily while shoeing, with this method. Just a little change can save a wreck or creating a bad habit on a horse. Your horses are used to this. Everything else was great.

    Nice video.
    I hope you were joking when you said that put the other horse in time out for not cooperating with you.
    You knew she was hungry. The kind thing to do is to realize that they love routines and get hungry, usually at the same time daily.
    It is comprehensive to a human to be told to wait just a little, but not to an animal.
    I always feed my dogs before I feed anyone else because they can not get their own food or make it.
    That way, they are not hungry while you eat, making them feel bad for not having food as well.
    Anyways, I wish you the best in life and to your horses too.

      work on teaching him to back up, to move his shoulders, to lunge. When you have his respect by controlling his feet...when YOU move HIM...he will stop thinking he is in charge of you. Good luck !

    Please...avoid fingers and hands passing through your loops, if the horse were to spook/abruptly pull away there is potential to break a hand, lose or deglove fingers

  • @gerrycoleman7290
    @gerrycoleman7290 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wrong. No break away halters. When a horse is tied to a secure object, you do not want them to be able to pull and get away. If they try and then are able to get away, they have learned that pulling is the right answer. That is a bad lesson. You do not want the horse to learn that. Teach them that pulling is the wrong answer.

    • @gerrycoleman7290
      @gerrycoleman7290 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@glittergirl5569 One does not want a horse learning that if they pull they can get away. That is a dumb move.

    Sorry - the pros do not put a rope halter on in this manner. One should reach over the horse's neck with your right arm and bring the long side of the halter over "throwing" the long line over the neck allows the opportunity to hit the eye of the horse or the handler. A;so the advanage of a rope halter is that it halps teach the horse to NOT push into pressure - leather and nylon halters have wide bands that a horse can push into without consequence. when they push or pull in a rope halter, the thin rope makes it uncomfortable to pus into pressure thus teacing them the proper response.
