Thanks for watching. Have you wondered how to tie a rope halter on a horse? I remember doing it wrong so many times in the beginning. Once I had it straight in my head though I never had a problem.

Well, I was doing it wrong. Thanks for correcting me. I was totally tying it above the loop not around it. Thanks!

That was exactly what I needed to see, thank you 👍👍👍
I'm so glad you included the nostril depth and why the halter shouldn't be low. I did not know that, as an older and new rider.
You explained everything perfectly. I will be trying the halter knot tmrw. Thank you, from a beginner 🙏🙏

I know this comment is several years past your original post but I wanted to say “Great video”!!! Love that you have addressed proper fit. I hope you don’t mind if I point out that rope halters are also fully adjustable.
That green halter that you said was too big just needs to be adjusted. Since you have one that is already fitted to Spider in all ways but the crown being short, you have a marvelous template to work from!

Absolutely love your videos. I am new to serious riding at 55 (started learning dressage last summer) Just purchased my first horse , a 9 year old dutch warmblood. He is settling in here in Maine very well after a transport from North Carolina. My original work was in a dressage centric barn with no natural horsemanship work. Now I am boarding in a barn that really emphasizes building a relationship thru ground work, natural horsemanship and lunging. This is so helpful as I also learn dressage with my gelding. I was only introduced to the amazing benefits of the rope halter when I came to my new barn. I love how your videos are building and emphasizing the new things my horse and I are learning together. Thankyou so much

Very good demonstration on how to make sure the halter isn't too big! Thank you very much for the demonstration, I really like your way of training with your horses.

Terrific videos! At the age of 47 I retired from my former job and started doing what I've always wanted to do... work with horses. Now I'm 48 and a bit behind "schedule". Your videos are a perfect compliment to what I'm being taught. I specifically want to become the best I can with groundwork and identifying potential health issues. We have 13 horses where I work varying from a highly trained Lippizan, a retired Thoroughbred, a high strung Tennessee Walker, a few Quarter Horses and a Hanoverian who likes my singing. While I knew the proper way to tie a rope halter, I never paid enough attention to proper fit. I'll definitely be coming back regularly. Thank you!

Thank you for this very helpful video. I just purchased a horse who is well-trained, but needs acclimating to his new home. I, too, need re-acclimating to the world of horses after being away most of my adult life. Just subscribed and looking forward to more helpful tips.

If you go round the neck then over the nose you avoid the flicking over the head near the eye. Good demo though

Great explanation, thank you! Obviously halter training comes first, but what age would you advise to start training with a rope halter? We have a yearling and don't want to rush her!
