just to set the record straight, the first few times I watched the video I was making back under hand knots rather than front over hand knot watch carefully, what your mind, and eyes do can be different that might help a few of you..it drove me nuts, and then i watched my self I was the problem..lol now I can make one in 5 mins without watching because i was so interested in this for myself, i didn't give up!! Thank you again R. Dolughan i learned something new, and its awesome.!!!
Absolutely the very best tutorial explaining how to successfully tie a confusing knot. Made it super simple to follow along. Thank you for the insider tips of how to anchor the knot during the building process and how to double check position of over or under.
It took me four hours to make my first one. I had to untie every thing and start over . One time on the fiador and twice on the halter. It gets easier. Thanks for the instructions!
Finally got it. Took me six attempts but in the end it worked. Used 25 feet (7 meters) of 5/16 (8 mm) inch braided rope. Just a lot of running back, rewinding and pausing the video LOL. Despite some vague instructions (of which there weren't that many) I found this video to be one of the better ones out there.
This is BY FAR the best instructional video I have ever done. Other sites show it so fast that I get lost. This one is really slow and shows EXACTLY how to do the rope. Mine didn't end up perfect but I will try again. Thanks!!
Thank you so much, very good directions, and some people like it slow and no giggle because your teaching not playing around, you were awesome I've made 3 so far for my horse and I love them thank you again.. :)
I have been searching for a good clear tutorial on how this is tied. Thanks so much for giving me a couple of seconds to be sure I'm caught up with you. Thank You! Kudos
Thanks so much, you make it easy to understanding. I know it is silly, but my friend and I are making halters for our breyer model horses with this video!!!!🐴
My baby Jocko 1/4 " double braided polyester. you can order it from CBknot. it's a great company to deal with. and their rope is very nice. I have price shopped a lot and find their prices very competitive. you can make a rope halter with excellent quality rope for $4.00.
I was really excited to start this after many tries i finally got it to work! Great and easy directions and instructions! I used some random rope in the shed and it didn't make a difference. I also found that you have more of one rope left over at the end, i just cut this off and it was fine. What are the lengths if you want a pony or a foal or cob size. Thanks!
This is an excellent and easy to follow tutorial. However, could you please explain how to alter those measurements to fit various size heads? I have a standard donkey; others may have a pony or draft horse. Or, perhaps you could just tell us what each measurement relates to, such as cheek or nose.
Sofie Pettersen If you start with 19 feet of rope, and measure in from the right side(right to left) 11 feet and then start your first knot, then go to the left 11 inches for your second knot you will end up correct. you may even have a little extra. I can do it with 18 feet of rope for a standard size halter.
hello there i am not to sure what rope to use for my pony? can you help me with this i am not to sure wich 1 to use so is there anyway i could get a sample rope?
Had the same thing happen to me Sofie. Untied it 3 times and on the 4th attempt got it right or so I thought. That end just ends up too short to be of any use while the other end is way too long.
Hi, very good tutorial, best i've seen. But I always do something wrong , I guess. The knot is always moving aside. Does someone know what I'm doing wrong? I guess it's always on the end of the knot. Thank you!
very nice. I'm going to start to tie these and sell them. What type of rope do you recommend? Also, how many feet does the rope need to be at the beginning?
I have tied this four times and every time I end up the the two ends with lengths that vary from 1 foot on one piece and four feet on the other piece. And unfortunately we can't see the ends of your rope so I have no idea what is going wrong but it ain't working. Shouldn't the remaining ends be at least similar in length?
Ray Bartee If you start with 19 feet of rope, and measure in from the right side(right to left) 11 feet and then start your first knot, then go to the left 11 inches for your second knot you will end up correct. you may even have a little extra. I can do it with 18 feet of rope for a standard size halter.
if you have any cool ideas for halters let me know. or any tricks that might help. i' m going to try some different types of nose bands soon. CB knot has a lot of different videos that are not on You Tube. that is what they told me. we need to see more videos. I love their product.
Wow, that's very complex. Is this supposed to be a halter that you make for retail or and emergency quick one you use if you don't have a proper halter on you? Could you please make a video showing a faster version? Thanks!
To make the actual halter? We wouldn't recommend paracord for the completed halter. It's a bit small and nylon. If you wanted a thinner halter to go under or bridle or just to carry in your pocket, I'd use a 5mm accessory cord or a 3/16" double braid polyester.
I got one done but one of the lead-rope loops is slidy like a slipknot. You could be a little more clear about which two loops from the cluster you should use. Otherwise, great video. I did have to do it twice to make the ends the correct differing lengths to make them come out. . . well, . . . more even. Still had some waste to trim off. Is there another method with a simpler knot then the Fiador?
Mike Malone look up "easiest way to make halters. it shows some simpler knots than these. but these look so much nicer and are pretty simple once they are mastered. try tying some with just two pieces of rope first. I think cb knots have a video on just the over hand knot.
Ya the Fiador (abc?) knott is the hardest to do. You have to practice often but if you use the pause button on this video it is VERY clear!! This video has helped me make my halters for a few years now! I hope they NEVER remove this video!
Great Video! Would love an email of your standard measurements and how you measure a horse for a hope halter. I have a pony that I would like to make one for and she is pretty small. Thank you!
Hello Robyn. I went to your website to look at some ropes. I wanted to order a rope that was 25ft long but the only options were 1,000ft or 1ft. I couldn't figure out how to order 25ft. PLEASE help. How do I order 25ft??
Witaj. Przepraszam za błędy, ale jestem z Polski. Potrzebuję szybkiej odpowiedzi jakie wymiary linki są potrzebne. Nie wiem jaki na rozmiar Cob. Pomożesz ?
Is it cause toy are not following the instructions? I have made several with their instructions a d it always comes out good. I wish i could post a picture here.
the fiador knot is not perfect. tryong several times but the original parelli one has both noseband strings and chin strings popping out from the center, not from any loop. This one has chin strings coming out from border loops, not from the middle... let me try again
Apparently I am too spastic to do this....mine ended up looking like a Mr Squiggle drawing he did in the dark while taking drugs, drinking, driving and texting and chasing a pokemon go.!!!!
Very nice video! but I don't know how long it has to be for my little shetlandpony (90 cm.) can you help me, please? :) and do you know how long ft in meters or centimeters is? (I'm from germany, so maybe sorry for my bad english and so on..)
just to set the record straight, the first few times I watched the video I was making back under hand knots rather than front over hand knot watch carefully, what your mind, and eyes do can be different that might help a few of you..it drove me nuts, and then i watched my self I was the problem..lol now I can make one in 5 mins without watching because i was so interested in this for myself, i didn't give up!! Thank you again R. Dolughan i learned something new, and its awesome.!!!
Watched 10 other videos...this is the best! Ok...still took me 8 tries to get it done without watching the video...but I did it
Thank you!!
So glad you found it helpful!
Best knot tying instructions I've seen anywhere. This is the work of a Knot Jedi Master, at least that's the way it looks to a noob.
Absolutely the very best tutorial explaining how to successfully tie a confusing knot. Made it super simple to follow along. Thank you for the insider tips of how to anchor the knot during the building process and how to double check position of over or under.

Mark Crosby i am so glad you didn’t give up!

Hi great video , any chance you can add the two extra double overhand knots on the nose band ?
This is best video I’ve seen on tying halters. Thanks for sharing
Thankyou so much for posting this video! It will save me alot of money, as I am saving up for horse supplies!

Excellent! Well done and exactly what I sought. Much appreciated.
I did mine perfect on the first try! Thank you!
wow, i cannot figure out how you knew the way to make me understand!!! lol.
thank you very much. it is awesome.
I think this is a great video. I'm on my third rope halter by now. I love making halters to my horse :)
What type of rope do you use?
My baby Jocko 1/4 " double braided polyester. you can order it from CBknot. it's a great company to deal with. and their rope is very nice. I have price shopped a lot and find their prices very competitive. you can make a rope halter with excellent quality rope for $4.00.

It's Monty Roberts Halter ! I can't make this halter but i love it
WOW. Great video, it worked first try. Good Job!
Now, all I need is a horse😂
I was really excited to start this after many tries i finally got it to work! Great and easy directions and instructions! I used some random rope in the shed and it didn't make a difference. I also found that you have more of one rope left over at the end, i just cut this off and it was fine. What are the lengths if you want a pony or a foal or cob size.
Thanks!
what size horse are your measurements suited for?
What size rope do you suggest we start with?
Thank you for posting this video!!!! :) I am making a really miniature one for my Breyer model horses (sounds silly I know)
What meaurements would I need to make a cob sized rope halter?
What kind of rope is this? Yacht Braid or just normal rope?
I try everytime to do this, but it never works. Do you have any other methods??
thank you so much! This is exactly what was looking for :)
how thick is the rope you use? i am going to make some with sail line but not sure whether 4mm or 6mm or 8mm would be best?
This is an excellent and easy to follow tutorial. However, could you please explain how to alter those measurements to fit various size heads? I have a standard donkey; others may have a pony or draft horse. Or, perhaps you could just tell us what each measurement relates to, such as cheek or nose.
can you please tell me what size halter your making?
full, cob, pony or miniature??? really good video but I just need the size to help!! ;)
cheyenne carnall she's making a standard size halter in this video.
Tried again and it's MUCH better now. Now in the good size..
Which one the long side which was the short side of the road?
I made one with this video when i was 11 thanks
How could I make a full size ?
how long is the rope at the end... is it long enough that you can use it for reins?
what about if my horse has a huge head... would it still fit?
Bonjour, le 1er noeud se trouve à combien de cm ?? Cdt cette vidéo est magnifique,,
what kind of rope should it be?
excellent video!!!
What type of rope? Can I get the rope at Walmart or Joann fabrics or something
Columbia Basin Knot Company halter cord. Great stuff :)
What type of rope can you use to make this?
One part of the rope is always too short in the end! What lengths should the rwo part of ropes be after making the two first knots?
Sofie Pettersen If you start with 19 feet of rope, and measure in from the right side(right to left) 11 feet and then start your first knot, then go to the left 11 inches for your second knot you will end up correct. you may even have a little extra. Very helpfull! Thanks! but what kind of rope is that?
hello there i am not to sure what rope to use for my pony? can you help me with this i am not to sure wich 1 to use so is there anyway i could get a sample rope?
Great video!
What do I do??? My loop in 7:20 is about 1'-3", NOT 7"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Had the same thing happen to me Sofie. Untied it 3 times and on the 4th attempt got it right or so I thought. That end just ends up too short to be of any use while the other end is way too long.

I dont know what im doing wrong i just can't get it. Ive done it 12 times and still ant .

Great video, thanks for sharing.

WHAT TYPE OF ROPE IS THIS.?
Used it again today 👌
how many feet of rope would i need to make this for a pony/weaning ?
Yaay, I got it. Made several now for my shetland ponies.
whats yhe scope of a veterinary doctor?
What kind of rope do you use? I want to make a rope halter as a birthday present for my friend.
Where can I get the rope??
Can you use paracord or is that too weak for a horse
Jaya Curtiss paracord may be good to learn on but it is a poor quality rope to use as a halter. cb knots rope is high quality and fun to work with.
does it matter what kind of rope you use
Just my opinion, but I guess any that won't rub and hurt the horse. A very smooth and soft one.
What is the size? Cob?

Wiki Nowak im thinking a full? but im not too sure myself
Ok. Thanks. I wont cob size but i don't know how to do it. I'm sorry but I can't keep writing in English. I'm Polish
I tried this method already it does not work this method or way you show it is too complicated
Great Video! Would love an email of your standard measurements and how you measure a horse for a hope halter. I have a pony that I would like to make one for and she is pretty small. Thank you!
How long?

the fiador knot is not perfect. tryong several times but the original parelli one has both noseband strings and chin strings popping out from the center, not from any loop. This one has chin strings coming out from border loops, not from the middle... let me try again
ok one was too loose and I switched a loop. Wow... thats gooood
Maybe THIS is the definitive tutorial
Where is part 2?
You can find it at th-cam.com/video/qXvKYjx68P4/w-d-xo.html - best of luck in your rope halter journey!
Apparently I am too spastic to do this....mine ended up looking like a Mr Squiggle drawing he did in the dark while taking drugs, drinking, driving and texting and chasing a pokemon go.!!!!
Mesmerising. But missed the horse.
muito boa explicaçaõ brasil
Very nice video! but I don't know how long it has to be for my little shetlandpony (90 cm.) can you help me, please? :) and do you know how long ft in meters or centimeters is? (I'm from germany, so maybe sorry for my bad english and so on..)
Like right when you think she's done with the knot
BUT WAIT THERES MORE
Me: *Has already pulled the rope tight* REally
I was just wondering this myself, lol. I've got a shire horse with a huge head who needs a halter like this.
