Only if the V8 has an 180 degree flat plane crankshaft like the M3 GTR has, a normal V8 that has that rumbling thundering sound, like a Corvette or an Mercedes AMG V8, has a 90 degree cross plane crankshaft, which gives less vibrations, and also that thundering roar we associate with v8 engines.
Most inline 4 cylinder engines like this 320I STW has ( a developed version of the M3 E30 engine ) usually has an 180 degree flat plane crankshaft, and if you put a flat plane crank on a V8, it turns into 2 paralell 4 cylinder engines, which gives an even firing order, hence a similar sound to a 4 cylinder engines.
All Ferrari V8:s ever made, has a flat plane crankshaft, that`s why they have their unique sound
Racing cars with V8:s usually has flat plane cranks due to their lower center of gravity and the ability to rev higher as well.
