    I think the thing that jumps out at me the most is just how different the main characters are to their Scooby-Doo counterparts.. like none of them are even remotely the same. It's almost as if they chose to loosely base them off Scooby-Doo characters as a way to get people to watch the show because they know that if they made their own characters, no one would watch it & it would be completely forgettable.

    • @buchstaben-suppe
      @buchstaben-suppe ปีที่แล้ว +23

      i think you hit the nail on the head with that one. i firmly believe the writer of the show wanted their own thing but couldn’t make it cause nobody wanted it. so they pitched it as a scooby doo remake and it got approved cause remakes are incredibly popular with producers and streaming sites (even though 90% of the time the audience doesn’t even want them cause they’re almost always bad)

    • @buchstaben-suppe
      @buchstaben-suppe ปีที่แล้ว +10

      coming back to this with more intel, the writer DID plan on doing their own show at first but then changed it to the scooby doo remake.
      the show is pretty much a self insert fanfiction, the main character is voiced by the writer, her ethnicity was changed to the writers ethnicity and she said in an interview she could always identify with velma cause she was the smart one and the most valuable member in the group 🫠
      also literally every single group member falls in love with velma at one point in the show and she’s always the hero that saves the day and the one that solves all the mysteries..
      i said it’s a fanfiction but honestly there’s better fanfiction out there than this show

      This is a lot of the reason why we've seen an uptick in young, white, males turning into school shooters and killers. Society demonizes them for being them, and they have no healthy outlet for their emotions, which is needed for young males especially due to higher levels of aggression.
      A lot of woke morons will scoff at this, but its true. History is irrelevant to how people are today. When a generation of people are attacked and demonized for actions they never committed, it turns them ugly. I saw someone bring this up on one of those Vox panels where they're talking about masculinity and they had this "non-binary" dude scoff and make excuses about it. Meanwhile I'm thinking to myself "I bet you've dealt with a lot of BS and if someone scoffed at YOU and made excuses about YOU, you'd have a big problem with it".

I’m a fan of dark humor, when pulled off correctly it makes you laugh but also shocks you! You have to have the ability to laugh at yourself though. In Velma, it’s non-stop violence, crude jokes, out of pocket insults with no timing toward the viewer, and the blandest form of sexism and racism jokes.
      It’s like they were trying to make the most horrible show so they get more clicks, and the worst part about it is that the original gang WERE diverse in terms in social circles. A nerd, popular girl, a kinda dumb but cool jock, a stoner/tax evader, and a dog. Despite being the most opposite in terms of social concepts, they got along and would never stab each others backs.
      In Velma, all the characters hate each other, (Exept Velma and Norville who get somewhat along.) , ALL of them are total jerks, then suddenly all the characters LOVE Velma and wanna date her, they changed the characters races for no reason other then to make more jokes, (I’m a person of color being Latin and Native American so I’m fairly tan, and all I have to say is that inclusiveness isn’t skin deep, it REALLY ISN’T. It’s super annoying when a character’s entire personality is their race. The funny thing is, t hat's almost what makes this show amusing, because she's clearly a flawed character and they don't even play it up like she's in the right. She outright says some rather selfish and negative things that are personality traits one shoudl not look to mimic.
      It will be interesting if they can actual evolve her into a character people can root for, since if we wanna play devil's advocate, when you consider your high school years I"m sure there are some things you regret, or even ways you may of acted, immature, rude and outright nasty, and as you got older you grew out of it. So if the writers actually have the skills to make their gang frienship make sense as they look past their negative selves from high school and develop into mature adults, it wouldn't be the worse writing.
      unfiltered
      With that said, this show is far from perfect, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued to see how they plan to wrap up the season, morbid curiosity, but it's also fascinating to consider what was going on through their heads when they produced this.

He rides around in a van with flowers painted on it every day, talks funny, is constantly fiending (for scooby snacks), always has munchies, dresses in baggy clothes with long hair, and talks to a dog. They only needed to change scooby snacks into edibles and the character would have been written. I don't know how funny it would end up being but it can't be worse than what we got.

    It seems weird how rebooting older franchises with expanded diversity sometimes includes ditching the egalitarian feel of the original characters. The original Scooby Doo gang weren't racist, sexist or homophobic. They only sin of the original casting choices was making them all white. The new Scooby Doo gang is more ethnically diverse but they've also been turned into overtly racist, sexist, classist and mildly heterophobic characters. At some point Hollywood needs to realize this approach is itself a major problem, not a solution to any existing problems.

      @@seventeenseventythirteen7465 I've noticed that in anime it's really common to have those "haha super funny" jokes about girls breasts and jealousy between characters due to a different size, for example. Anime kinda desensitises you in some regards, because it's so full of weird tropes and sexualisation.

    We all need to give Mindy huge credit. She somehow managed to unite the right and the left by making something both sides despise. Kinda beautiful seeing everyone come together to rip on this pile of crap.

    I’m so glad you included that Conan clip at 1:32. I was disgusted when I heard about it but haven’t heard it come up in anyone else’s reviews. The fact she unashamedly joked about it on live TV with no self awareness, and people laughed along? What the actual hell?

      Honestly I think a lot of people just don’t know so glad he spread the word. I feel like the laughter seemed awkward like she was smiling and laughing while saying it so they laugh too and sometimes they tell the audience when and how to react to things. I would hope no one actually found that funny I was found it gross 🤢

    It's so funny how that show talks about racism and shit, then it has the fucking line "A spicy meatball Italian". I mean, I usually wouldn't give a shit, as someone of Italian heritage. But it's specifically because *this* show made the damn joke.

    I’m convinced that an ai went through the web, found “funny” words, and then wrote this entire show.

    • @shradibop
      @shradibop ปีที่แล้ว +19

      makes sense, considering that AI will write unfunny things about jokes instead of jokes, which is essentially this show

      This is the most plausible explanation for this show. They were so lazy that they got a barely functioning AI to write it.

    • @Mediados
      @Mediados ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Absolutely not. An AI would have no social opinion and would approach the task with logic alone. I am convinced an AI would be unintentionally funnier than this.
