Legendary pioneers! The all had "the right stuff". Thanks for sharing this with the wreck diving community Mike. The footage is priceless. These guys paved the way.
Talk about standing on the shoulders of giants! We need Evelyn to ID the participants. Mike, I have the photo of your Mom and Dad with the compass on my wreck room wall. George Hoffman told me he got the nut off the helm, but could not get the wheel off. Priceless footage!
Mind blowing that they were able to get down there and salvage stuff before the era of tech diving. Anyone know, were they just on straight air? When you see the more recent videos of people diving that wreck with half a dozen bottles of various gas mixes hanging of them, it's amazing that they're just going down on what appear to be double 80's.
Why does way older footage of the Andrea Doria for some reason always look more clear to me? This video and that one video from 1957 in black and white seem so clear and I can see the wreck so much better despite the footage being lower quality
I worked for Smokey a bit, and we talked about this dive. It was unusually clear. This was the only usable footage up tunil quite recently--that area is cold, turbulent, and dark. He got very lucky to get this. Also, Discovery licensed it in about 1992 for a doc on the Andrea Dorea (of course)

The wreak was more pristine in the early years after the sinking.
This is true but something about older footage is it almost looks as if the water isn’t as dark. I dunno maybe it’s just me

Nice film Mike, could use narration, am sure your mom could fill us in. Great to see film shot at depth!
Cod in the North Atlantic? This must be old...
This film is 56 years old.
Hmm so this is the trip where Dudas brought up the compass.
real legend of dive community
Good stuff.
Not so interesting for ordinary users, as I predicted: too few photos and video from wreck.
Nikita Pliuškov You sounds like a lot of fun at a party...
