Managed to keep the chopper alive with this tactic, required some trial and error but it was quite handy for the rest of the mission. Load in 3 engineers, prebuild the sam site, go to the location, unload them, order the engineers to go to the 3 buildings and airborne the chopper to move next to the other silo and plant the sam site. It will target the attack helicopter, that will target the sam site, enemy sam site will hit the chopper, but when it lands it should have 1 pip of health left.
I actually beat the mission with zero casualties. You need to; -buy an artillery vehicle before you sell the airstrip, -use it to destroy the northern power plants from the north, -use the commando to bomb the southernmost turret, -use the same artillery to open a gap in the wall, -sneak in the 5th engineer, - THEN sell the airstrip, -build a hand of Nod + engineer within the base, -capture a southern plant (taking the obelisk offline), -Sell plant to pay for another engineer, -capture the refinery with the harvester inside, and the rest is history.
The original intended landing zone (bottom of the center Nod outpost) is what triggers AI production, so if you want the AI to never start building, simply take that out last :)
To this day, it still pisses me off that the Commando always takes damage from destroying buildings. (Whether it's because of the troops that come out of the destroyed buildings or because of blast damage.
Now I finished this mission. :) Interestingly I did the beginning almost identically - but I guess there's not much room for variation. Sending the chinook to the upper left corner of the map was actually quite brilliant. I did it the intended way and it was a pain in the *ss to secure the area in the middle of the map because almost every time the position got immediately swarmed by (flame) tanks and rocket launchers. I needed to redo that part many times. In the end I was only able to hold the position because the AI ran out of money for no apparent reason. Maybe the harvester got stuck in his base or something like that. ^^
Most of the times, it is impossible to beat the mission with the intended way (in the original C&C), you always need to figure out something else. What a coincidence tho, the fact that the mission is called ''Blindsided'' and as part of the tactic used in the video, you need to use an airstrike to uncover a part of the map 😂.
Were you lucky with that Chinook landing in enemy base? I tried your landing zone but failed for 3 times. Maybe it's just RNG with SAMs. I had to destroy Construction Yard instead with Air Strike and then my Chinook survived barely with health in red by landing in corner of the map.
@@THEZOD Clicked on the same exact square you did. The sam site fires twice in a row on the chinook but in your video, it only shot once a time. Feels pretty rng to me.
Wasting lots of units. Engineers to get power plants is silly. And it looks like you disabled the obelisks somehow prior to that, they make it very hard to capture that rear base.
If you just destroy the power plants, the AI will rebuild them in 3 seconds. Capturing the power plants is the best way to deactivate the obelisks and the fastest path to win the game.
@@THEZOD Not from my experience. Taking the command center and Airstrip, then using the airstrikes on the obelisk (south) is much easier. Then blow the power plants and then the last obelisk is defenseless. Capture their Refinery and silos next and that slows their rebuild capability. Then the small base by the river and the northeast base are much easier to take down.
Can't really say it's cheating, I simply used a legit fonction (Air Strike) to reveal more map, I didn't use any bug or glitch. Nonetheless, it is a shorcut and not the intended way to play this mission.
@@THEZOD You are right about that. However I always wonder why people want to play it this way, the intended way is more challenging, but also more fun.
@@MatthewYoungProducer Mainly for speedrunning. Also, this game was not created for a hard difficulty mode, that's why I used this method, the game is not balanced at all.

Isn't it like just 2 hits from sam site and chinook is kaput in original game?

it never ceases to amaze me how missions can be terrible yet there's a way to just cheese it lmao well played

Didn't know that, thx for the info !
GREAT hint with the airstrike to open a visual place to land

19:42 - I really felt that unnecessary loss of that harvester!
Sad indeed, I was too far gone in my playthrough to restart :O.

@@THEZOD no, you need an airstrike at a random spot - the far left upper corner worked
@@wayne9903 Corrected, thank you for pointing it out !
Great way to beat the level!

It was not luck, you need to air strike first to reveal the left corner of the map and then land at the extreme left of the screen to avoid the SAMs.

@@welkingunther4298 Indeed, there is some RNG involved, I always show my best run for this TH-cam channel.

Unfortunately you cheated by airstriking in the dark and sending your Chinook into their base after that. Doing it the regular way is much more fun.

@@THEZOD You mean this (remastered) game or this particular mission only? The original 1995 game is balanced I think.
@@MatthewYoungProducer I mean the game is designed to be played on normal difficulty, the hard difficulty is broken IMO, too much unbalanced.
