When I walked my sisters dog in rural Norfolk the cows would come right up to the fence and rub noses with the dog. Tessie was very calm. The same with the sheep. There was no chasing or fear. I was surprised. Cows are magnificent. Violating a cow is like violating your mother. I cannot believe the total indifference to cows and domestic animals by so many people. I think it’s like a collective autism. An indifference to the feelings of sentient beings. I’d would love to see communities with a herd just as companions. Jack had a wonderful walk. I’m sure the cows want to meet him.
I agree with all you are saying here except that it is a myth autistic people lack empathy. The majority of autistic people (I am one myself) are deeply sensitive and compassionate. It is true that we have difficulty reading or interpreting others and struggle with communication but that is not the same as indifference. Autistic people usually care very much for and often have strong bonds with animals. Which is precisely why I live a vegan life. As do many others on the spectrum. I think you are confusing cognitive dissonance or perhaps a kind of psychopathy with autism.

I love the flowers,bees,butterflys,all the lovely mummy cows and their babies(you understand them so well),the sound of the drain and stream,so calming,but Jack,dear Jack,he tickles me,his knowing look and his claws clicking away on the road,his white tipped tail swinging side to side happily,his whole being loving the walk,you too lapping it all up,let's not take anything for granted, ThankyouX

Such a beautiful walk. The cattle are gorgeous, I've always loved cows. I refuse to eat beef too for that reason and I drink almond milk.. I love the way Jack keeps looking back to see if you're still there...he loves you so, he's adorable

It hurts so much to have watched this, even though it was wonderful. I've spent nearly 30 years of my life buying and selling places like the one you have in an attempt to find a home that is quiet. You have what I've searched for and cannot find. I'm so frustrated. America is car crazy. I can't find a place on a quiet lane where I can walk without being irritated by cars. The thought of selling everything I own and moving to another country is overwhelming. But it may be the only answer. You are very fortunate to have that wonderful place.
G Kuljian I met a woman a few years ago who had retired as a teacher in the US ( sorry I cannot remember which state) and she sold everything she had and upped sticks and came to Ireland having never set foot in Ireland before. Anyway, she is now living a very full life in Wexford and has never looked back!
What a wonderful video, thank you so much Colette. It is quite rare to see such contented cows, happily grazing with their babies. What a joy to witness such a scene. I had a debate with someone recently who asked me what use cows (or other farm animals) would be if we didn't eat their flesh or drink their milk? Just to be able to observe them peacefully existing in the field with their young ones, and admiring their gentle beauty is enough justification for their existence in my opinion!! I was also most impressed with Jack the way he lay down when the car approached. Such a clever boy! Blessings to you both xxx

You have kept me connected to Ireland in a way I can find no where else. My great grandfather emmigrated from Tubbercurry, which isn't so far from you. I truly look forward to returning to Ireland. The fields so pretty and green. Hard to imagine you walking with a jacket on when it’s in the mid to high 90’s here in Alabama! I noticed the lovely sky and billowing clouds. Colette this is by far my favorite video to date! ❤ Jack as always is a star and such a good boy, the cows and babies, hats off to Tom for leaving Moms and babies together ❤. Your commentary along the walk regarding the hedgerows as always so informative. The telling of the age of one and the old drainage, amazing the things one finds on a walk isn't it. This reminds me of a time past on the farm where my horse lived. I was head down in a barrel of grain when I heard a moo, and then another and another. This was a horses only farm, but there they were. Two cows in the field, calling out. The story from the neighbors who came for the roundup was that these cows were from a mile away and wandered in by way of the stream. The day before their calves had been sold out from under them and they must be searching for their babies, through barbed wire and steep banks and sadness. It broke my heart.
I JUST CAME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL AND WAS DELIGHTED WITH YOUR WALK AND IDEALS IN LIFE, VERY SIMMILAR TO MY OWN. I AM AN AUSTRALIAN, MARRIED AND LIVING IN CALIFORNIA. One of my favourite videos from Bealtaine Cottage.. the Magickal Hedgerow is wonderful.. even as a child I knew it was Magickal and Enchanting. Love those Cows and calves.. The Cow is 'Mother' very sacred animal. Such a shame modern world don't appreciate her more. Many Blessings .. 🌿🌳🌙

Seeing how the cows interacted was a treat. It reminded me of how my mom raised my three siblings and myself, and how I've been raising my own daughter. Let them explore, but keep nearby to guide them if need be, and grab every teaching moment you come across. I also applaud the farmer for keeping the moms and babes together, they'll grow healthier for it, physically as well as mentally. :-) I still love your voice, as soothing as ever.

It's great to see the cows and calves together.I am blessed to have a good farmer as landlord, he ensures groups of cows calve around the same time, so I watch little herds of caramel coloured Limousine calves similar to Tom's play every afternoon. Delightful.

That was a lovely walk. I really felt I was there and was very interested to see and hear about the ancient drains. We have very old and diverse hedgerows where I live too. It is wonderful to watch (and listen to) their story through the seasons.

The juxtaposition of your free, wild, natural hedge compared to your structured and manicured neighbor across the street communicates a lot.
I miss my Boarder Collie very smart and loyal breed. Looking for another one now. She was a rescue from being put down at a "pet store" because she was too old 12 weeks! People making money off the suffering of animals is an affront to the Goddess. Beautiful walk thank you never get tired of your sharing.
Such wonderful memories for me visiting an uncle and aunt who had a farm. Its probably why I love animals. They had a small herd of sheep who of course had lambs in the spring. One of my early recollections is bottle feeding the lambs. Thank you for sharing your country lane walk. Nothing like a walk or drive down a one lane road in the country. What a beautiful walk, perfect lane! I too love looking at all the flowers and trees growing in the verges when I walk. The cows do look like the beef cattle that I see here in Northumberland, I guess you need a certain richness of grass to have dairy cows, and beef makes good money for the farmers. I love seeing the calves with their mothers but hate when I hear the moaning for days of the mothers that have their babies taken away. Their voices carry in the valley, so sad. On a happy note, that black and white cow IS simply gorgeous! I painted a cow in gouache a few months ago and was quite pleased with how it came out, wish I could paint that one! Thank you for sharing your time with us, love all your videos!

We have a lot of ranches here in central Texas as it's not really farming country. The calves are always out with the mothers but then I don't believe any are dairy cattle. We have a small town about 20 miles away that boasts they are the home of the Hereford breed of cattle, I assume for the US anyway, as it's a British breed. Lovely to see more of the area down the road.
