Good morning Colette, what you explained at the beginning of your video about the absence of flooding at your place no matter how much it rains and pours is very enlightening. For those who have not yet read “a cottage and 3 acres” I encourage you to do so as as I discovered myself , this beautiful haven wouldn’t have come to existence without a careful planning. I had been especially interested in the part where you had explained the digging work that you got done at the very beginning so the extra water would be channeled out. Like everybody else here, I long for a new video from you and I check my iPad for alerts daily, it is only recently after reading your book that I understand even more how come this spectacular environment came to life, subsisted and thrived to this day.

Video like this one, always helps me with Hope, because I live in a city which has started bursting at it's seam. A beautiful and green town once, has become a living example of destruction at the hands of humans and their greed. It hurts immensely to witness this deterioration. Bless the rain! I've found the cotoneaster is one of the most popular early bloomers in the garden. Even though I only have the commonly planted American variety, I´m still amazed at how many wild bees and especially bumblebees are attracted to it come early spring. I used to call it "Bumblebee-Bush" before I knew its proper name. I want to get the European variety this fall and am really looking forward to how it will do in the garden. I´m always amazed at the biomass my small garden produces in just one season. I´m also regularly cutting back and clearing to maintain the status quo. I just love it! Also, your nuanced perspective is much appreciated.

Hi Colette!I've just recieved7 josta berrie plants,4 are in the ground already.i'm quite excited about this.i have been trying to get goose berry plants but for whatever reason they are not allowed to be shipped to Delaware.When I learned from you what a josta berrie was, I couldn't wait till spring to get these wonderous plants. As much as I love the summer at Bealtaine I absolutely love the coming autumn. Mother nature hadn't quite finished but it's the promise of cosy and resting times. It all looks as usual so beautiful, entrancing and pulls you in. Blessings xx
Well said there, re. creating your own reality. Before I built my house I also spent a great deal of time walking the land, observing the drainage, the direction of the wind, even feeling into the energy of different areas. I formed an intimate connection with the land before disturbing anything. Everything I did was intuitively guided which is how I’ve always been. It came as quite a surprise and shock to learn how many people are so disconnected and behave like a bull in a china shop especially when it comes to Mother Nature.
Your home and gardens are enchanting, Colette. Everything you have done at Bealtaine has blessed not only you, but everyone in your wake. Thank you for sharing your process. We make choices within our reality... In the past 6 months I have gone from having absolutely no gardening experience/knowledge, to now having a patio full of beautiful flowers, I am growing sweetcorn and herbs, I even have a mini greenhouse and a compost bin now!. I tend to the garden daily, and it brings me such happiness. Still small steps, and I still haven't got a vast amount of knowledge, but I have successfully kept all these plants healthy and alive, to which I am really proud of!. My space is small but I've managed to create my own little haven however while both back and front gardens are quite lush the side of the house has always had me pondering. I just finished a novel, The Overstory, by Richard Powers. It's very long and involved but a textbook about trees and our relationship to them. As you say, they have been here long before us, and then are all connected to each other and to the rest of creation. What a new perspective I've been introduced in the years I have been walking the woods with you and Jack. I love hearing the rain. Thanks for your thoughtfulness.

Ireland can send some of the extra precipitation to Oregon. We could use it. I could sit and watch the birds at the cottage all day long. So meditative. The wisteria is beautiful! The cotoneaster on the corner of the cottage is always a buzz with activity. I counted over 20 visiting in a few minutes back in May.

I have been trying to catch up in watching your lovely videos since I discovered your TH-cam page. I have noticed many of of your living willow arches. I have found a couple other videos on how to do this BUT...don't those willow branches grow in to huge willow trees at some point and hence losing the arch or not??? I have a beautiful Weeping Willow in my yard and I just love willow but I don't want to create something I don't know how to maintain. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Leather is also part of an artisanal world which is in peril. We are not from the throw away generation so leather shoes as we know were highly prized polished cleaned and treasured. My job as the youngest was to clean wax and polish the family shoes using Kiwi shoe polish. I wouldn’t buy new leather now though. Gorgeous upholstery in real cars from the 50s should be looked after. Modern cars are ugly. I’m glad Jack has his fabulous new bed.
I don't smoke or use it and I now prefer to grow trees, planting all of the three acres to woodland. Sadly, Cannabis will become another monoculture cash crop and a part of agri-intensive farming.
@@bealtainecottage That's fair enough. When the time comes though it wouldn't hurt to have a few plants for animals and your herb collection for cooking. As regards to it becoming a cash crop, I do think that hemp will need to be grown on a large scale for the sake of saving our trees and other things. But I think it needs to be grown in a "Good over Greed" or "Protect over Profit" system.

I don't smoke or use it and I now prefer to grow trees, planting all of the three acres to woodland. Sadly, Cannabis will become another monoculture cash crop and a part of agri-intensive farming.
@@bealtainecottage That's fair enough. When the time comes though it wouldn't hurt to have a few plants for animals and your herb collection for cooking. As regards to it becoming a cash crop, I do think that hemp will need to be grown on a large scale for the sake of saving our trees and other things. But I think it needs to be grown in a "Good over Greed" or "Protect over Profit" system.
I love TH-cam channels for grown ups.. mind you, it's the kids who need to be tending the earth
