What Changes If You Find Nick Valentine Without The Quest in Fallout 4?

- It took me EIGHT YEARS to find out that you can skip the beginning of the game, and without entering Diamond City, go straight to Nick Valentine in Fallout 4. I became curious about what would change in such a case, like some dialogues. Will the scene with Piper near the gates of Diamond City still happen, and will Nick be involved? To check this, I went straight to the vault to rescue Valentine, killed a bunch of gangsters, and released the detective. After a while, we got out of that location, and then we had a dialogue. If you go to him after his secretary tells you about his location, you can inform him about it. But since I found him myself, here's what my character said.

If you keep playing there’s an npc called Preston who needs your help with a settlement
He'll even mark it on your map for you!
There is also a random NPC named Preston Garvey who asks you to donate money to him to help rebuild the minutemen. Usually find him walking down the railroad tracks.
The question I have is which one is the synth because you kill this one he has no synth parts, but you can't kill. The Preston who sends you to help settlements.
They never get old!

Remember preordering it and it coming late and being heartbroken but when I got it it was a really peaceful and happy time in my life and probably the last time I was a child. Love ❤️

I actually did this on accident my first play through just exploring same with fallout 3 I accidentally wound up where the sleep simulation thing was happening where your dad was
I did the same in 76 with the overseer
I did the same lol! I was young and dumb and couldn’t figure out how to navigate the ruins. Was just randomly running around and found the sleep thing.

Yeah I was almost lvl 25 when I went to tranquility lane, sadly I was too high of a lvl to meet the Lyons Pride and couldn't talk to Three Dog, I killed all the mutans and behemoth alone but it was not really worth it.
I've also tried to go straight to Kellogg, but it doesn't allow you to skip that part of the storyline.
Same it would've been funny if there was different dialogue if you stumbled in there on accident
what if you noclip and go straight to the institute?
Institute is an interior cell. This means you can't just noclip under ground to get there. You have to use some kind of door, teleportation acts like it in case of Institute. @@Raooka
@@Raooka with mods you can go to the Institute but it acts broken. Some dialogue will work, some wont, but you cant progress the main story without triggering Kellogs event.

Did you know you can skip a lot of F3’s main quest by leaving vault 101 and going straight to 112 where you’ll find dad in the simulation.
they couldve atleast code locked the vault or something
Better yet, you can go straight to the Vault 87 and an even bigger part of the quest should be skipped
@Josh_1312 you can't kill all the supermutants in vault 87 when you're level 1
@@staskandan I'm just saying than you can do this part of the main storyline at any given moment, but yeah, muties are hella tough there. Maybe you can theoretically sneak or run past them, I don't know.
@@staskandan Thats why you go straight to the Outcasts and do the Anchorage DLC, get the stealth suit. Optionally, hunt down the schematics for the dart gun.

The game broke and Piper was stuck outside repeating dialogue.
You could make her help you with the other tribes and that would fix her
Use tck to fly to top of wall and close the gate
This is a common speedrun tactic
So you were just unlucky
You got bethesdad
If you go to good neighbor to the memory den right off the bat you do the relive your escape from the vault and the kidnapping. The Lady who runs the place will tell you to go find Nick.

This is worthwhile, as you get a quest, and XP from the quest and passing a speech check.

@@ErosXCaosyou know what is the best way to deal with Preston, help him out of concord, and don't meet him again until you are the leader of nuka world. Come back with disciple armor, you can't kill him but it is funny when he tries to attack you and you beat him down.
Theres at least one instance of a new player going the wrong way to diamond city, exploring the subway just cause, then unintentionally discovering nick valentine

The weirdest thing is you cannot find the sewer grate that you and nick *Exit the sewers from* it just appears after you rescue him.
Glad it wasn't just me being dumb and unable to find it.
Yea it appears to be covered with the garbage then when your exit it the garbage is gone
The way I remember my first Fallout 3 playthrough, I went straight to Rivet City from the vault, it was a terrifying journey. I walked the wrong way, didn't see megaton and just kept walking until I found safety. Anyway when I got there a woman brightly told me she knew where my dad was. "That was easy" I thought, somehow forgetting the hours I spent crouch walking past Centaurs, Death Claws, Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls.
Is this a false memory? It seems unbelievable that you could do this, or that I would.
not a false memory hahahah i recently replayed fo3 and its been over a decade and i accidentally done the same thing like i knew where threedog was and all that but i started pottering around megaton doing sidequests and the quests for moira at craterside supply lead you to rivet city to finish them and get the perks off her and i spoke to dr Li without remembering that she was who i was supposed to be looking for anyway and i ended up doing the main story from there.
downside of it tho is that you gotta go back and do the 3dog quest killing the behemoth etc anyway if you want to be able to connect to Galaxy News Radio from anywhere on the map so you can listen to those tunes while you play
you could do that yeah, also you must be pretty unlucky to met a deathclaw on your way to rivet city
It took me 10 years to find the answer to something, i forgot about it in 2 seconds

Tbh it's always fascinating how they compensate for things like this, nice touchs.
In basically all my playthroughs now, I ignore Preston until I've taken care of the Nuka-World DLC. You can do the whole thing, get the perks from the gangs, then kill all the gangs. If you do it this way, Preston will never get mad at you for being a Raider leader.
For me it didn't work that way, unfortunately. I thought it would, and everything was normal until he got to Sanctuary, where he then said he heard I was the leader of Nuka World and that if we were going to keep talking, I would have to take them out. Similar to what happens after he's already a companion, but you can still recruit him after since he doesn't feel as betrayed. Of course this was SEVERAL years ago, so my memory of exact words is shoddy.

Honestly I have an idea for the quest first be the raider leader and lead them into the Commonwealth
i think it's a shame you're forced to take over settlements in the commonwealth or kill everyone. i personally use mods to skip raiding the commonwealth but it baffles me they thought it was a good choice to force players into this position. although most people don't care if preston hates them.
I kinda wish the gates were still closed when we arrive n that's when they decide to open it cuz nick was there n banter a little w piper

I'm currently on a HEAVILY modded playthrough and haven't even talked to Codsworth yet ( at lvl 42). Just doing the quests provided by the mods. I think I'll just do this instead of dealing with all the vanilla BS leading up to it.
Easier way than that if youre modding. Just use SKK fast start mods and you can knock out the first acts all together.
Don't talk to Codsy and finish the main story line. It's funnier that way.

Have you ever played fallout new vegas or 3? The while franchise basically let’s you do what you want from the start just without telling you! In new Vegas you can head straight to vegas get in with the NCR and take the monorail will take about 20 mins then just forget house and head straight for the Tops casino to confront benny! I’ll leave it there for now if you’ve never played it 😊

I just checked the speedrun any% on fallout 4, I believe it was about half an hour

All quests are side quests in fallout.😂

The only real main quest were kill the Master and destroy the Mariposa base, so you can finish the game without getting the water chip.

Honestly it's stuff like this that amazes me that the developers think of these little details. I'm sure a lot of them would just make the vault inaccessible until the quest is active.

I always save Nick before I get to Diamond City. Mostly because I hit The Combat Zone, Old North Church, and Hubris Comics.
Fun fact if your starting a new playthrough and you don't want to listen to pipers bs at the gate you can just kill her no one will attack you and you can go straight into diamond City and she'll be perfectly fine since you need her to finish the game

This latest playthrough I passed by Diamond City on my way somewhere else before I'd found Nick and the doors were already open.
"How did you know where to find me?"
"Oh you know, just out for a stroll, in an abandoned vault, overrun by triggermen. A casual tuesday night."

Interesting, the way I played the game Nick never was lost. I eventually heard on the Diamond City Radio that Nick was back in town and eventually started his quest line when I felt like it.
I have found so many work around in that game. I always tried to play according to my own decisions I would have made and my game always crashed after some point. I had built my character from the ground up and had everything, however the amount of work arounds I used caused my game to always get stuck after the main story. Eventually the quests that are non ending, like the ones from Preston or procter teagen etc, they just kept sending me to the same thing over and over

I usually go to mass fusion, get Maccready northeast of it, then get nick valentine southwest of it, then head to diamond city. As for the piper scene, the door is already open for her and shes right there. And she silently gives you the quest
I kinda hope our character slightly turns and glances at us for a second before answering 😂
If you go straight to fort hagan and vlc clip your way into the elevator, you can skip rescuing nick too

Omg… that’s how I played the game on my first run through a few years ago. I like to explore. As soon as the game started, I just went in a random random direction kept going and eventually found a Vault. I’m on my second now thanks to the show
You know what's even more impressive that this little changes affect how the game progresses.
If only there were a way to skip even more. In F3 you could go straight to Vault 112 if you wanted to (basically skip 1/3 of the story)

Nick valentine imo is one of the best followers/npcs so many different dialogs and interactions with everything.
My favorite is when nick first sees the prydwen enter the commonwealth and drops one of the coldest lines 💀
If you show up to the museum of freedom with the power armor and minigun from the roof, the dialog form preston and sturges changes. Turns out you can access the roof from the church next-door. Get the roof of the church, and jump on the tail of the vertibird.
I did this unintentionally on my first playthrough
I like going to good neighbor then going to the memory den then going through the memory and she tells you about Nick and you can be sarcastic to her about Nick's sign
I tried that and the subway station was blocked with garbage.
That sounds like a bug.
I ran into Valentine after getting chase into the subway trying to escape swan 😂

I like skipping sanctuary and concord all together and going straight to good neighbor, you get to use the memory den to show the lady there your traumatic vault incident and she will direct you to find Nick. No minuteman, no settlements constantly being marked by Preston just story and coping with PTSD.
I would leave Vault 111, go immediately to The Commons, and get bodied by Swan. Good times.

There was a huge battle between DC guards and Rust Devils in my current play. This totally made the dialogue skip between the mayor and Piper lol I had to instigate the rest of it by talking to the mayor but I haven’t went inside yet so I’m gonna find Nick now first thanks ha

In fallout 3 you can run straight to where your father is being held, instead of following the clues and quests
Theres a voice option that'll prompt a response from nick. I think he just makes a comment on something said if I remember right.

I have never gone straight to diamond city, and get the quest, because usually on the way to where I’m trying to get cait, we’re already in the common so, might as well, mainly because I want to explore, and I think anything around Swan is probably going to be pretty OP, And by the time I find Nick Valentine is the time when my side questing is over
With a jet pack or cheat tp get into diamond city with out talking to Pipper at the gate. The gate will never open
