Boards Of Canada Bocuma / Roygbiv

- The first time I heard these tracks I was reminded of the music BBC (and ITV) used during their schools broadcasts in the 1980's (and from digging around here on TH-cam I'm not alone in this belief). You know the sort. The cheap and cheery electronic tunes which accompanied both the continuity and the opening titles of many of the schools programmes we watched. So in the spirit of this I've set the titles from some old Schools programmes to Bocuma / Roygbiv.
Note the following programmes in your jotter - Going To Work, 20th Century History, Making The Most Of The Micro, Experiment, Near And Far, Watch, Picture Box, Everyday Maths, Scene, Science Topics, Zig Zag, Exploring Science and Physics.
When this song ends, I shed a tear. Not because such a beautiful song has come to an end, but because I'm back on earth.
when you hear boards of canada you don't go back to earth

Boards of Canada is so influential in art culture and music, comparing this to more newer modern videos, you can see similar aesthetic.
Jeez this was uploaded 2007. I just found more than a rare gem.
This song strongly brings us the feeling of infinite nostalgia. It doesn't matter if you miss 2023 or some recent year, or even last month, if you listen, you will remember your old moments of joy. This song makes me cry like a true BoC fan.
ah, nostalgia. this reminds me of being in a geography lesson watching a documentary on the andes sometime in the late 80's.. an eagle swooping over the misty mountains.. an eagle in your mind.. wish I had some weed right now
I can confirm that I pulled these clips from old BBC and ITV schools programmes from You Tube. Looking at it now I see how the timing is all off and how some of the clips hang around too long. But hell as a second attempt at this thing I still like it, although I can't rule out a "Special Edition Directors Cut" at some point.
Thanks for the postive comments
The only modern day today show or whatever else I know of that is aired right now that would play something like Boards would be How it's Made or How it Works. Have you listened to the music that plays in the background? Below Boards of course!
How neat are we?! Listening to "documentary and television program" music?! The rest of the world can have all their radio junk, turnover gunk that is forgotten about after two years or so. I love this music and don't ever plan on leaving it. Plain and simple.
Boards of Fucking Canada!
Fantastic, this is exactly what i thought of when I first heard that track! I think BoC deliberately went for the whole 'schools tv' sound on the first album in order to evoke memories of childhood (at least for kids of the 80's like me!)
I find it amazing how an album can make you think of musty-smelling classrooms, messing about on swings, drinking dodgy-tasting milk out of little cartons..
I don't even understand where this takes me. This represents every emotion released simultaneously.
i love the very beginning of this video, Bocuma with that BBC Clock works like a dream
When I heard this album after a few attempts, i realised the transistion between these two songs is fantatstic and that one really only works with the other. So I was hoping someone would put them up on TH-cam together. Luckily you have fufilled my wish, and gone the extra mile with a great video to go with it. Thank You.
just unbelievably amazing. so fukkin good!
B.O.C Fans. we rule!!!!
i always feel smarter after hearing this song

The visuals are perfect
This is really special. I dont know why, but whenever I hear this song, it always reminded me of something like this - you pulled this straight out of my dreams. Brilliant.
Santo Tomás cursed
Excellent video!! And you are absolutely right...the stock BBC film footage goes with the song perfectly. I used to watch some films like that when I was in elementary school, and their music kind of evokes that in me too.
DireClown - That is what BOC is all about... That Fuzzy 70s childhood nostalgia.
I was born in 88 so I never was really exposed to those old nature videos in their prime. But after Boards of Canada i will never look at them the same way. Especially the music...
I identify with this so much, I can't even begin to tell you. Their music reminds me of those indistry films we used to watch in school.
This is brilliant! You sir are an absolute genius! It's like I have regressed back to being a poorly eight year old with a bottle of lucozade and a copy of the Beano, wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa watching Schools and wondering if I could wangle tomorrow off too ;)
really love some of the clips you've used. very fitting.
great job :D
Let’s all go to Dyatlov pass and play this out loud on a massive speaker.............. Anyone? Shit I’m going alone 😳😂
ofcourse the inclusion of bocuma as the intro elevates this piece & provides context which has been captured perfectly with the countdown clock
it is possible however that some synthesis of the two - cherry-picking the best of the other - would provide the ultimate visual accolade in every way worthy of one of bocs greatest musical mind-trips
there is a similar video of roygbiv that employs advertising footage of mid-1980's vintage that - whilst highly creditable must be deemed the less satisfactory version of this remarkable musical work of such tantalisingly fleeting brevity & inspired perfection as it doesnt achieves quite so successfully the poignant effect of transporting us back through a portal in the minds eye to that younger , brighter & better televisual world of a future that is now behind us
Plus, a couple of BoC songs like Roygbiv and Aquarius makes me feel like I was petting a kitten. Because these two tracks are adorable and soothing to listen to.
Hi, really enjoyed this, took me back to those pointless filmstrips I was subjected to as a child at school! I love the nostalga (sp?) BOC invoke, Bocuma gives me the craziest dejavu for some reason but I can't quite put my finger on the memory...
Very nicely done. As many others here it reminded me of the same era and the same TV programmes the first time I heard this track. Thanks for uploading.
aahh! i immediately thought the same thing! i always wanted to hear more music like that. i didnt realize it until this BOC album, and it filled the cravings id had since elementary school, watching all those old educational tapes.
Spot-on choice of clips for a great pair of tracks.
Incredibly original video for such great tracks.
Congratulations.
The first time I heard this album I got the same impression of old school incidental music from SURVIVAL the old nature series and maybe THE WORLD ABOUT US. With SURVIVAL it was usually some bleak, icy terrain in North America on the trail of wolves and such and the native indian feel to the music really tied it in. All time top ten CD. *****
Hi Phil - I was just reminded of this and so did a search - still think it's fuppin' cool, matey.
Dude you're totally right! This music totally fits. XD
I really love Roygbiv. It's my favorite song in the entire world.
Boards of Canada outdid themselves with this song. They are now their own Nemesis! Can they outdo themselves and their own virtuosity in crafting a song better then this????
All my respect, because this song just bypasses any sense organ and just goes right to your heart!
bocuma always reminded me of a commercial bumper/break.
Exactly how you had it there haha.
aaaah like minded people... good vibes all round. Its true, the feeling this track gives you... I fear it may ACTUALLY physically take me back in time to me first school if i listen to it too much :) Great vid dude!
yes, Chi town born and raised and I feel the same way.
WTTW had some broken colecovision sounding segues back in the day.
This is my favorite BoC song and the clip you pulled from the BBC is dead on. Seems like a lot of old public television used similar style music.
the video is fantastic
I love the transition from Bocuma to Roygbiv
both these songs are just magical
the song matches these clips so good too. GREAT JOB YO! :)
Still here in 2021.
Astonishingly so.
I get nostalgia when watching boards of canada videos..
boards of canada gets me through my homework. thx BOC
Great video. Echoes my own thoughts about Music Has The Right To Children.
That BBC schools countdown is perfect.
a university called Santo Tomas in my country (Chile) ripped off this song for a commercial. Its pathetic how they abused this amazing song.
Expérience fort intéressante.
The intro is so sick 💯💯
S A N T O T O M A S
you're definitely not alone in this phil
this kind of song sends me.
Anyone else notice that Radiohead copped this in " All I need" ?
Really :O I didnt realize until i saw your comment
I agree with you very much, Your also correct, they took their name from the National Film Board Of Canada.
@Nickgreek123 Agreed, very rare to find an artist that makes more than music.
reminds me of clockwork orange soundtraks
otherworldly
I play this as a tribute whenever a TH-camr closes and deletes and even terminates his/her account.
this is really great!
I've said it before. BoC puts the muse back in music.
So is that the official vid or or is it fan material ?
Either way, gr8 job !
real inspiring sound too.
Makes me wanna try'n make 1 myself !
1 day, mayB :-) ...
I totally agree with cheeseboy777, how do BOC make me feel 8 years old and lost in the summer holidays every time I listen to this track??
1:31 Lake!
Excellent
Life before COVID1984. They did not know what was in store for them.....
Smart people did. Smart people have been preparing for a pandemic seriously since SARS in the early 'aughts. But we capitalist fucking rich asshole countries gaslight those people and shame them and don't follow their expertise. We're idiots. Just like with climate. It's the same exact fucking thing and it makes me hate being alive.
and here in the states as well.
😎😎
although a good song, this song makes me think of the past
Saint Thomas. You can!
very nice.
This is awesome
the cheap and cheery tunes which we endearingly call "crap" xD
