The continuing standardization of terminology in the rules is extremely refreshing. I look forward to any wacky tech introduced by the new pile-in and retreat rules! :) Oddly enough, this new abstraction of wound allocation is more immersive to me than having all damage go to one model until it goes down. "Stop bullying Bob the Varanguard, he's already so wounded." The consolidation of universal rules like anti-charge into the weapon profile just makes sense, as well as making generic "anti-infantry" type abilities boilerplate.
I'm really hoping that they shifted SCE to be much more elite instead of the middle of the road baseline. Something like 5 liberators for 180 points. Balance around that.
Judging from the warscrolls for the Liberators, StormS. Chariots, & Vindictors... not enough of a glow-up to match their lore quite yet--my guess is GW doesn't want their noob-oriented flagship army to also be a low-model count army. So... like almost everything, a business decision. I think part of the issue is they get matched up against hordes more in the lore than they do in-game. Libs & Vinds are going to see more badass wading thru weaker BattleLine 'equivalents' like marauders, clanrats, skeletons, & chainrasps than dueling Chaos Chosen or Kroxigor.
I've never played AoS, haven't played any large scale Warhammer games for about 10 years. AoS with it's reactive system is making me buy kruleboyz off eBay - hoping to dip my toes in
So far 4.0 is looking amazing for me. Im a casual player, and rules like the 1 inch range to attack, battleshock, heroic actions, only made it harder to learn the game and interrupted the natural flow (for someone learning such as me). Every aspect i didnt like about the game is being removed or simplified, which should also shorten match length (it took me about 5 hours for a 1.000pt game). Warscrolls are clearer and not as overwhelming for big heroes like Nagash and probably Archaon, unit stats feel more thematic and list building provides more freedom
Thankfully the design teams are completely separate, although the media team will treat them all the same 4.0 already looks head and shoulders better designed over 10th Agreed that we’ll see though
Come for the rules explanation.. Stay for the exquisite cow art and subsequent endless puns. This video was both informative and quite mooooving. I'm sorry. No I'm not.
TBH: I don't think this new Weapon Profiles are that much better. I like that I don't have to break my mind how to be flexibel in special Weapons and so on, but it is not really less complicated, just a bit more streamlined and squeezed in one side of a paper. But its not less complicated, you still have 3-4 special abilities depending on your Loadout. As we see for Nagsh, very uniqe special rules are still there and will show on Warscrolls all around. They just steamlined some things like specials on hitting 6s and/or wounding 6s. Lots of glamour but not the biggest change in the warscroll i have the feeling. For Phases, Rob already said it. "There aren't any subphases anymore, but there are..." Why would you even write subphases are gone, but you just brought in Strike first... wich is exactly what opens a subphase...
I am confused with multicharge. So if I charge 3 units. One of them has strike-first ability. What would be the order: First uses fight ability my strike-first unit, then I pick my unit who was charging (any of the two), after that my opponent picks a unit to fight, after that my second unit, who charged this turn. Is it correct?
I'm pretty into this. Still a little concernd about the lack of mentions of Allies or Coalitions; but everything they've shown us so far is giving me enough positive vibes that I'm going to trust them for now.
1/2” coherence and flat 3” combat ranges are probably the only thing I’m kinda bummed about about so far because it definitely lowers skill expression but as for literally ever other rule shown so far I’m ecstatic In particular I believe the pseudo stack system should be adopted by every GW game immediately
Rob! Thank you for all your hard work on these videos for AoS. 4ED. They allow busy dads that play casual and get to maybe 2 tournaments a year keep up with all the changes...these have been the best set. I hope when the full rules come out you will do more. Cheers!
You do amazing work! I’m holding off learning age of Sigmar until the new edition is released, all these videos are making me so exited to start playing Warhammer!
This rule on the spearman pisses me off so much. Zoneing is a s skill keeping up the tempo in a game so you can be the one who charges is also a skill. But vindivator just go. No problemo dude i just rolled a 4+ sucks to be you. I really wish they did not hand out supper good buffs on 50/50 rolls. I mean if i wanted to gamble i would go play poker at least there you can win money.
Interesting that you have to roll for your strikes first, strikes last etc. It seems much more common in what they’ve teased so far than currently? Maybe 4th will lean heavily into ‘gamblers edition’ 🎲
Changes are great. but as some armies wont get updated for12 to 24 months i wish they would just wait the 24 months and actually update the game for everyone, not just stormcast.
Looks like the stars aligned for me, been going back and forth between 40k and AoS for a while, I prefer the AoS model range. AoS 4th edition came at a good time.
Really helpful video, thanks. And as a very new player, these changes sound sensible and improvements that will make the game easier to learn and more 'feels right'.
Is everyone getting a warscroll/ army update on launch of 4th? As the retreat mortals cost would be horrendous for nighthaunts doing a retreat/ charge with their low wound count o.0
All these vids are so helpful. I was trying to learn AOS 3 and struggling then they scrapped it anyway, but this is great for a rookie like me to try and learn a new edition’s rules before they are fully released. And you explain it really well.
Love the pics, my only issue is that the conga line in the middle is out of coherency. I think they said in a previous article that units of 7 or over have to be within 1/2" of 2 other models, right?
About coherency, from what I understand is that each unit needs to be 1/2" away from another. No mentions about if there needs to be units vertically. So in theory, we can see again 20 Saurus warrios in a line to make a screen. Am I understanding that right?
it looks similar to 10th in my opinion and taking the combat range away loses so much flavour and the actual feeling of battle. This was handled exactly like 10th cause it's success I guess trust me youll see that once it's released
So far all of the rules previews for AoS4 have been great. I’m super happy with AoS3 and I was wondering how they could make it better without ruining what we have, and honestly I feel like AoS4 is doing it so far. The commands are amazing, the tightening up of the rules is great so far. I just NEED to see what scoring/misssions/battle tactics feels like. Current battle tactics don’t really amaze me, and the faction specific ones create brutal “haves” and “have not” scenarios.
Rob... 'membah that time I paid you $100 to not talk shit about Skaven? 😂 I miss that month.... I'm seeing the Rats glowing up big time.... My how things have changed!
Have to be honest, as a BoC player, seeing those cows really hit hard 😢 I'm still not actually sure if I'm going to pick up a new army for 4th yet, but the changes do seem mostly positive.
Really fun to watch these videos and read the comments. :). I really need to snap out of my funk because each time I see warscrolls and new changes I see some positive but keep thinking of stupid things. :D Like Kroxigor you don't want to attack with large blocks of infantry, you don't want to charge Vindictors. Liberators are now kinda blah for me simply because they get mortal damage on 6's yet Vindictors can possibly get Strike-First if they've been charged, and with 3" range, easier to get much more damage. Now I'm not a tournament player, very much a casual player, but I keep feeling that depending on battletomes and such, factions and the game is going to feel very linear in regards to decision making. This unit goes against this unit, this unit against that. And hopefully each faction is balanced well enough that you have enough choices to build well balanced lists. Curse my stupid negativity! (Really love the new shooting rule though.)
These are my favourite changes so far. Super happy to hear save stacking is going. Love limited shooting in combat. Pile in sounds better. Also looks like units are being given clearly defined roles. I’m a big fan of the specific weapon abilities and units being stronger or weaker against certain other unit types. Ps great vid. The drawings were 👌
I think that they mean with "no more start/end turn abilities" is refered only to combat phase. There is only reaction command abilities that works in combat phase (at least in the core rules) and only non-reactions CA works in the end of phase.
There is a 99% chance the scroll for liberators that they’ve shown is only for the unit that comes in the launch boxes, and when the whole army rules comes out they’ll have options. It’s happened in every starter sets recently, AOS and 40k
You mentioned you would like to put out a video breaking this all down and making it easier to understand, would you please use a board and some minis like you did in your screening video. I find it so much easier to work out what's going on if I can see it happening on the tabletop. Caveat! Screw that noise if it makes it a lot of work
The drawings were dank as fuk
Helpful?
@thehonestwargamerstreams Very. Great for understanding the changes. Keep up the great work!
Just here for the cow. More cows or I'll unsubscribe. Ransom for cows
40k fans: oh god no, new rules.
Aos fans: hell yeah new rules!
New rules in 40K usually means GW is taking something that works and then breaking it.
You’re doing a great job. I started reading that article then my adhd ass said “fuck it. I’ll wait for Rob to explain it to me” 😂
Lost it at "Mooove" - I'm a grown man in an office building Rob, I can't be giggling like this at your whimsy.
Hahahaha but also LETS GOOOOOO
The continuing standardization of terminology in the rules is extremely refreshing.

For all the disappointment flowing out of GW and certain parts of the hobby, 4.0 is looking amazing
Agreed! I was worried they were gonna ruin it like they did with 10th, but it actually maybe looks good?! 😅
Totally agree
Agree, moving to AOS from 40k now. 40K design team just sucks compared to AOS
Better than 40K at this point
Just don't bring your 40k toxicity when coming over. We doing our own thing over here & don't need the poison from 40k & fantasy players.
Another property of this is that 25 mm bases will not be able to congo line base to base. I use that a lot with my SBGL.
I'm really hoping that they shifted SCE to be much more elite instead of the middle of the road baseline. Something like 5 liberators for 180 points. Balance around that.

Your Insight on this is interesting as always, love the videos
Very much appreciated
Those keywords on weapons are so good, providing that extra flavour and making some unique weapons actually feel unique.
So far 4.0 is looking amazing for me. Im a casual player, and rules like the 1 inch range to attack, battleshock, heroic actions, only made it harder to learn the game and interrupted the natural flow (for someone learning such as me).

Now I need an army of cows.... and BoC are gone! 😞
Alas, there is no longer a cow level
Lumineths are there for you, mate.
milkcast cowternals
I wonder how many people got triggered by the use of cows after just losing their BoC army?
Thank you for the cow pic, it really helped a lot ❤
Since Doombulls are getting MOOved to another game, Rob needs to rebrand them as the Moovebull and be used to explain movement in AOS4
I require that 'Critical Hito' soundbite for personal use.
This video needs more cow bell!!
Time will tell, we shall see. GW said a lot of things about what was happening with 40k 10th that didn’t actually pan out.
Thankfully the design teams are completely separate, although the media team will treat them all the same
4.0 already looks head and shoulders better designed over 10th
Agreed that we’ll see though
Very excited about 4th edition (even though I’m relatively new to playing and am just now getting the hang of 3rd edition)!
Thanks for explaining this bud :) I’m dumb and can’t read
Come for the rules explanation.. Stay for the exquisite cow art and subsequent endless puns. This video was both informative and quite mooooving. I'm sorry. No I'm not.
Seems like they are Moo-ving the game in the right direction 🐮
Really milking the changes.

While waiting for my Knights codex, I think some AoS4.0 will make a nice Birthday present to myself.
That was a moooooving Bovine Intervention! ^^
Moooving review of the rules. Really milking the news potential Cowmrade! 😂
4th core book needs Rob sidebars and diagrams. Like that Paper Clip in MS Office
To more tricky pile ins that get you out of combat with the unit that isn’t the closest. Getting flanked is more brutal than ever.
Multiple musicians and standards is dumb and would actually confuse things IRL
All I've learned from this video: gw dumped beasts of chaos for thier new faction: cows of chaos. Thanks Rob
I love 40k lore and dont know fuck all about AOS lore.
But 40k game is absolue shit compaired to aos
Interesting that you have to roll for your strikes first, strikes last etc. It seems much more common in what they’ve teased so far than currently?

it really feels like 3th but refined, so far this new edition is looking promising, hope they don't mess up warscrolls too much.
Love the high quality infograhics. Highlight of the vid... 🤣
Please, can we have more pictures when you explain any UDDER new mechanics?
Sounds like a lot of rules pulled over from old fantasy battle. Kinda cool. Looking forward to trying it out.
The pictures were so good, they were emotionally mooving.
We hope the cow appears in the next videos until release date. Thanks very muuuuuch! 🐮
Would love a 'after pile-in' cow picture, otherwise, love the work
i really want to know what other FIGHT abilities exist other than the ability to pile in mooo000ooove
Awww no more targeting a specific model in the middle with a spell and wiping out half the unit with a single spell due to coherency rules
Always wanted to play AOS. This seems like a good time to learn
I watched the release of Skaventide as a 40k player and now here I am..!
Swop, Non- active player for the re-active player
How do we know how many models get to fight? I didn’t see a range on the weapon profiles.
Just a rules clarification, are those Cows with Guns?
I think I’m most exited about unit specialisation
I found the diagrams helpful!
I found the diagrams helpful!
The drawings were moonificent.
I love the complexity of the pile in, not a fan of not shooting into combat.
About coherency, from what I understand is that each unit needs to be 1/2" away from another. No mentions about if there needs to be units vertically. So in theory, we can see again 20 Saurus warrios in a line to make a screen. Am I understanding that right?
You need units over 7 to be within half an inch of 2 models
it looks similar to 10th in my opinion and taking the combat range away loses so much flavour and the actual feeling of battle. This was handled exactly like 10th cause it's success I guess trust me youll see that once it's released
It defo loses flavour
The mooooving picture where great
Are we going to see a continued power increase with this edition?
I can’t wait to mooove into this game system.
more cows! more critical hitto!
All sounds promising so far.
COW COMMENTS FOR THE COW GOD!!!
Now I need gore gruntas but cows
ROB these videos are SO good for helping me understand these articles!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Comment for the Cow ! check !
We need Mooore cow references in AoS!

Rob, your 4th edition videos have really been killing it. They are very helpful for catching the nuance.
Mooovellous!!
i like everything in this article except for new coherency. 1/2" double coherency is way to restrictive & awkward
🐮🐄

Remoove❤🤌
I'm here as well. Sitting like a goblin, getting all that knowledge. Juicy knowledge
I still just hope they showed the new stormcast before the ones going away... Still pretty excited for this new version.
#mooAOS ❤
I’m loving these breakdowns thank you
Cows!
Skaven making sneaky retreats, sounds like fun. Great to see them back. Sneaky mooooves? I gotta have it, baby!

I dont know why, but those cows have eeary similarity to Rob. The same dedicated look in eyes.
Said with much love to Rob and his amazing work!
I think these changes are very positive. Pleased it’s not all doom and gloom!
Udderly brilliant breakdown of the changes.
Cows should be the next AoS faction introduced.
Mooooooooove ❤
