Hey Rob, just wanted to let you know I love and appreciate your work. It's truly what has pulled me into Warhammer and got me excited for AOS, I'm one unit away from finishing painting my first two spearhead forces, have enjoyed my games thus far and am keen to ramp up to full scale and eventually head to events. Your passion, approach and personality has been delightful, and frankly the dedication to supporting the game and its player base is unrivaled. Cheers from an Aussie halfway accross the globe :)
I play FEC. I mean, I PLAYED FEC.. The Noble Deeds were a cool concept but it doesnt work when all our heroes just die before using our powers. They castrated our recursion by tying it to NDP. Ushoran is an auto include even in casual games. It sucks man. Thanks for all you do
Very frustrating going against Skaven who's Clanrat recursion (2d3 every round) is free with better saves, meanwhile my poor courtier is fighting for his life to return a few ghouls before dying
I feel like with Nighthaunt I have to take my 2nd edition battle tome with me to let opponents know that I have played them through thick and thin. Mostly thin. I just have a feeling the first “balance update” will just tickle them
I don't think people, especialy if thry started in 4th ed, care if an army was bad/good in the past. My dudes were horrible in 3ed. I never met someone go "oh it is bad all your stuff is legends, lets play" . It is always buy a new army or don't play.
@@piotrjeske4599 some people insinuate you only play X army because they are OP "now" even those most NH broken abilities were there since 2ed. So him producing the 2ed book where they launched dissaudes the "im a meta gamer" connotation

Insightful as always. Speaking of NH keeping other armies down, I've seen multiple Ironjawz matches where they get tabled end of round 1 - wonder what other extremely hard counters are out there
Great video! One thing id like add and perhaps youve mentioned it in other videos but i havent seen elsewhere 1. Other than the slightly overtuned armies, theres a meta developing full of "condensed armies" of 2 drop - 9 units ,making the double really really strong. Theres no benefit to going wide anymore - no more warlord / vanguard battalions for extra CP / Enhancements, free commands etc With everyone forced into making Double Battle Regiment lists essentially from 3.0, the game, for everyone is now "make the most efficient 9 unit list you can with reinforced units" and its causing this stark difference in warscroll efficiency to show up even more They need to change army list building and its consequences somehow and decouple it from turn priority
I started mid way through 3rd - does GW ever change such important rules such as how list building works during a season? I feel like the changes we need are so large they'll only be addressed in AoS 5th, and we may just have to deal with whatever augments GHBs give. But if they've done so in 40k/AoS before in the past, then I have hope.
Can't agree more on that, it also makes armies weaker that are relaying on their support heroes (+ those units that ignore guarded hero, don't get why we have to go back to this shit)
Fixes for NH: Dreadblades can only teleport in the NH players movement phase. Death Stalkers only allows a single unit to run & charge, however all units can still retreat and charge. Points increases on Hexwraiths and Dreadblades and maybe even Reikenor. (Also change the Procession of Death bubbles to 12" to make it a serious competitor to Death Stalkers!)
To much for one nerf. Probably removing "Any movement phase" from dreadblades and higher points cost for hexs would make a big change in winrate already. In 3rd edition std had run + charge on whole (cavalery) lists and there wasn't issue with it.
@@adriansawicki3513 it really isnt too much. The whole army run retreat and charging is the most busted thing ever. Its the only subfaction effecting every unit unconditionally. @@mrigank3855 The whole army already had retreat and charge and still was at bottom 3 for most of 3rd edition. 4+ ethereal and only one unit can have 5+ ward per phase as it's a command (so it cost cp which we don't have a lot now) so don't add stuff here. Btw this and flying is already included in unit cost so don't see issue here (if we don't count hexwraiths which are way to cheap). It's not a good thing to nerf everything which is good in army rather it should be done in parts to check what kind of results it gives. Great video... really interesting I am a Soulblight Gravelords player and I feel that the essence of the army has been lost a little, the nerf that have been made have pushed the army towards a certain list build and away from a horde army. I like narrative armies but building an army with lore flavour has meant that I have accept losing more than I win because without certain units within the army they become very unbalanced. The core rules of the game are great for AOS 4 but maybe the armies list and rules have been designed with tournament play in mind. I worry that going down that avenue might turn off players, as I understand this is what has happened in 40K. Nighthaunt were not great in 3, looks as if they just went over the top on trying to improve them. Looking forward to the 12 week meta will be really interesting.👍
I'm a new Soulblight player to 4th, and yeah, even I have noticed from looking up winrates and lists that virtually every winning list is one of two mortarchs, Vordrai, bloodknights, wolves/bats to taste. It's a shame! I have so many funny idiot skeletons I want to use!
Have to believe that incoming nerfs to manifestations will hit LRL and Tzeentch win rates a bit - both those armies are better than most at getting them out there
11:50 I suspect a disproportionate amount of competitive players pick up Nighthaunt because they have (or at least perceived as having) the best book, which would mean that skilled and less skilled players are not evenly represented, and thus the book will do even better.
As a Tzeentch player I’m really not sure how we’re going to be hit. Because I do think it’s more than just morbid conjuration that’s keeping us up. Tzaangor Shamans and pink horrors in particular I think could use a points increase.
A cool stat which GW really needs is the % inclusion per scroll. So it would show which Warscrolls/models are being fielded all the time vs which are not being fielded at all, and it could go as far as including % win with that so theoretically one would be able to select “Gloomspite Gitz” and then “Trugg” and see that it’s included in 56% of lists and has a 76% wr. (Disclaimer that these are theoretical and made up numbers to show how it would work) Thank you Robs for all you do!!
Amazing.. this helps the community so much when discussing their armies. Overall these stats make everything better for the game.. Thank you so very much for sharing.
I would love to see a breakdown of how often the 'blue' tier armies (or even the fat middle) win against the red (or even the white for the blue guys). It's one thing if an army only has a 41% win rate. It's another if this army wins less than 5% of the time against 'red' armies or even white armies, and the only chance of a 'fair' game or a win is against another 'blue' tier army.
Hey Rob, I absolutely love everything you do here. I love statistics with a passion, and I’d love to learn to do the things that you are doing, but I do not know where to start learning or how to choose a topic to research.
Excellent analysis (as usual of course) with expert insight. I wouldnt have known that Nighthaunt lead was so big. Even beginner players cant dent the win rate. Very interesting to compare number of entries AND win rates
I'm really curious what approach GW will take to address Nighthaunt. Do they remove the run and charge from the subfaction and leave them with just retreat and charge? Do they make the harrows teleport a 3+ roll to teleport? Is it just a points problem with them having too many bodies on the board?
I play FEC and damn, yeah this hits hard. Army is unplayable without Ushoran and he dies so fast that most games he can't even do anything... Still fun as heck tho, because "Here, have 40 ghouls, good day sir" is never not funny to do. Thanks for the video mate !

Im almost finished painting my 3k fec horde, just 10 crypt guard left . I haven't actually played a game with them yet but ushoran is basically what iv built the army around. Can you recommend any specific units apart from more ghouls.
@@cloraformsgood5340 I'd suggest, depending on what kind of list you want to play, running Lords of the Manor with the +3D rally and at least two units of knights, i think Morbheg and Flayers are equally good while Horrors aren't worth their points anymore now. They still hit like bricks tho. Also Zombie Dragons are fun for line-breaking shenanigans!
@@SynesthesiaBoy The real Warhammer is the friends we make along the way, i hope you get your flame back on ! Maybe give Spearhead a go, Uncle Varghulf is a beast and there are a few fun things to do with them without a big model count. Plus spearhead is fun^^
I brought FEC to my first local tournament last weekend completely unaware of how bad they were. I knew that they’d be a struggle but I didn’t realize they are the literal lowest winrate army in the game. I have 8 armies for AOS and a majority of them fall into that below 45% category, with FEC being my main army. I’ve played like 90% of my games on FEC since the army box dropped and still love putting them on the board. They may just need to hang out on the shelf on tournament days though lmao
Defo some internal balance issues with Gitz. Hopefully see a bit of squig buffage before long (esp poor mangler squigs; look how they massacred my boingy boy). Still even without troggs I reckon they’d be ok probs 44-45 ish.
Great insights. My sense is that StD could be reigned in with a couple of targeted nerfs. NH need a major overhaul (4++, 8” move and army wide advance and charge). Worried about changes to core or seasonal rules due to one faction (LRL). This didn’t work too well in 40K 10th with Aeldari.
I actually played FEC this last weekend at a little 1 day event, ended up going 3-0. It was hard going, but FEC has some tools to work around their paper thin saves.
This, ladies and gentleman, is a prime example of survivorship bias. FEC are awful, man. Like Ad Mech in the beginning of 10th edition bad. Just because you got good die rolls at a single local event at your game store doesn’t mean the army has tools or are any good.
I enjoyed this update. New to AoS in general though. Where are you gathering the stars from? Is it all matches from all tournaments or just a top x from each tournament?
This kind of makes me want to start building a Nighthaunt army. Not sure if I should feel guilty about that or not. :) My wife may want to divorce me because I already have Skaven, Beasts of Chaos and Sylvaneth. well, and some Stormcast now. (ugggghhh).
Unless gw brings back sacrosanct in 5th or 6th, l ain't going back. Won't spend another 5 years saving up, to see raptors, palladors etc be removed in 5th or 6th. sce right now feel bad. Almost Everything is overcosted, units have odd unit size, heroes that should be examplars are not, everyone has wards but not SCE, slow units make a ton of infantry meh. The new stuff should be good and fun to play, but it isn't.
Interesting I don't think anyone predicted this spread of win rates several weeks ago Your statement that Nighthaunt's high win + meta rep rate may be artificially deflating other armies' win rates Which armies in particular?
Rob i got my membership back for tsports but i saw that the last update is one year ago. Dont you host tournaments on tsports anymore? I want to watch some 4th edition content of you and your crew.
Armies like Nigthaunt and Sylvaneth need to go back to the drawing board. The edition rules just don't work for them. nighthaunt has too many good things going for them and Sylvaneth has too high of a skill floor because of the terrain interactions.
I dont think that GW is doing a bad job at balancing at all. First there are so many factions, its very hard to balance. Second they bring balance changes very fast and listen to the comunity and the stats. Conpared to other Tabletops they are actually pretty good. Ty playing games like Infinity, the devs dont give a shit about balance at all.
I don't understand your point that higher popularity + high win rate together means the army is stronger than if it had a high win rate and was unpopular. Sure there are more unskilled players piloting it, but there are also more skilled players so that should even out. If anything, I would expect there to be more skilled players piloting an army that is perceived as strong, since they will be more invested and more likely to have multiple armies to pick from
Do you Rob or does anyones else know if someone does these kind of reports for 40k? I tried searching for one, but could not find anything that comes close.
simply put, all the 3+ saves and damage arent worth anything if you dont have "delivery". Last edition this delivery was Mighty Destroyers, letting you normal move in the hero phase as long as no enemy units were within 12 (then you had to charge) Now its been nerfed to a 3 inch move, meaning IJ is just Slaves to Darkness, but less tougher. Combine that with Orruks hitting on 4s, there damage is quite swingy and a -1 to hit ruins them
his point is that they are so good and broken that even the lower skilled players are cranking out wins. meaning that the main factor in winning, the "pilot", gets lessened and its just a pure "pick this army to win" kind of thing
@@SynesthesiaBoy Not so sure about that. I can see anyone that's competitive, good or bad, would jump on NH so saying that just "bad players" and playing NH is rather presumptive don't you think? "Good players" are more likely to go for the win and follow the metta.
Perfect. Now I have an excuse when I lose with FEC, and when I win I brag about what an incredible player I am. Let's go worst winrate in the gaaaaaame! But yeah, give us a few buffs please and thank you.
I hate it, I really hate it I just think it's overly simplified, feels like I'm playing 3 different game systems at once, early days though when battletomes start coming out I'm sure it'll start to feel like AoS

This kind of makes me want to start building a Nighthaunt army. Not sure if I should feel guilty about that or not. :) My wife may want to divorce me because I already have Skaven, Beasts of Chaos and Sylvaneth. well, and some Stormcast now. (ugggghhh).
My two armies… Ironjawz and KO..lol
Started AoS with 4th and Nighthaunt with absolutely no prior knowledge of the game, I just like the models...
Already got the Final Boss Energy 😂
Age of Ligmar. Ligmar Johnson.
Could use a Val deepdive Sound otherwise 10/10🎉
3 armies I own are stormcast, sylvaneth and khorne 😢
Great video
I love your stats!
Great video! Which army do you think will rise if Nighthaunt ever gets reined in?
You are quite precious!! True!!
Interesting
I don't think anyone predicted this spread of win rates several weeks ago
Your statement that Nighthaunt's high win + meta rep rate may be artificially deflating other armies' win rates
Which armies in particular?
I play Ironjawz and take responsibility for making many mistakes playing my army. Nevertheless this does feel a little validating 😂
Rob i got my membership back for tsports but i saw that the last update is one year ago. Dont you host tournaments on tsports anymore? I want to watch some 4th edition content of you and your crew.
It's all on the honest wargamer babe
I just started my first army in AOS and its FEC 😭
Armies like Nigthaunt and Sylvaneth need to go back to the drawing board. The edition rules just don't work for them. nighthaunt has too many good things going for them and Sylvaneth has too high of a skill floor because of the terrain interactions.
Just a few months till gw put KO in legacy/oldworld
Should I regret buying the Sylvaneth vanguard box to start getting back into AoS?
Absolutely not
I dont think that GW is doing a bad job at balancing at all. First there are so many factions, its very hard to balance. Second they bring balance changes very fast and listen to the comunity and the stats. Conpared to other Tabletops they are actually pretty good. Ty playing games like Infinity, the devs dont give a shit about balance at all.
Post for the algorithm.
I don't understand your point that higher popularity + high win rate together means the army is stronger than if it had a high win rate and was unpopular. Sure there are more unskilled players piloting it, but there are also more skilled players so that should even out. If anything, I would expect there to be more skilled players piloting an army that is perceived as strong, since they will be more invested and more likely to have multiple armies to pick from
Im holding it down, 3-0 with sylvaneth at my local store!
Do you Rob or does anyones else know if someone does these kind of reports for 40k? I tried searching for one, but could not find anything that comes close.
Auspex tactics?
Which armies have had a higher winrate in the past?
Gargants, dok, slaanesh
What exactly is it that makes Ironjawz so "bad" right now? Just made a order of 2000pts worth of Ironjawz 😅
simply
put, all the 3+ saves and damage arent worth anything if you dont have "delivery". Last edition this delivery was Mighty Destroyers, letting you normal move in the hero phase as long as no enemy units were within 12 (then you had to charge)
Now its been nerfed to a 3 inch move, meaning IJ is just Slaves to Darkness, but less tougher. Combine that with Orruks hitting on 4s, there damage is quite swingy and a -1 to hit ruins them
What the TiWP number actually means is kind of hard to understand.
I enjoy your videos,
wish you did 40k too like this.
Take Care
Be Safe
Stay Safe
Me love some stats
Hi
So, what your saying about NH is that all the "bad" players are playing them and depressing the other armys? How?
his point is that they are so good and broken that even the lower skilled players are cranking out wins. meaning that the main factor in winning, the "pilot", gets lessened and its just a pure "pick this army to win" kind of thing
Thanks, yes
@@SynesthesiaBoy Not so sure about that. I can see anyone that's competitive, good or bad, would jump on NH so saying that just "bad players" and playing NH is rather presumptive don't you think? "Good players" are more likely to go for the win and follow the metta.
I was going to make Slaves of Darkness army but I would hate to be mistaken for a Disturbed fan.
