Great tips thank you!!! I have run into this issue many times and the easiest way to remove a pinion from a motor is to use a flat head and pry it off. That then releases the tension on the grub screw and makes a little easier to remove.

This video helped me save my Velineon 3500 brushless motor after i stripped out the set screw on a protek 48p pinion i put on it awhile back that want to get off to fit a different pinion. This was a eye opener from me i desperately need to invest in a better tool set than using cheap drivers and rtr included allen keys.

Had a stripped grub screw on my mip driveshafts on my wraith. Previous owner installed them backwards. Ended up drilling the screw out just to the bottom of the threads, luckily I had a spare and was able to reinstall it from the other side of the drive shaft. Your video did inspire me to try different approaches tho. Thanks

Will a slow dremal still be able to cut down that screw and pinion

If the grub screw is protruding from the pinion , i used a pair or pliers with cutting blades on to make a notch across the screw which you can then put a flat screwdriver in and twist it out

Your best bet is the dremel to get it off or an easy out screw extractor. Either way you might want to get another grub screw since it’s stripped and you’re going to damage it in the process. If you don’t want to get a dremel, look in target or Walmart they usually have off brands for like $20-30 with the same exact toolkit

That's my issue. The grub screw is stripped. I've been messing with the spur and pinion gear for weeks. So frustrating.

    • @JacobusRC

I believe it was the stock traxxas pinion so a 14tooth at 48pitch
