I lost my home a couple of years ago... Upon waking up in my car that first morning in February, I felt the most tremendous sense of relief... All of the stress was completely gone! No more bills! No more 3000$ a month rent! All I had to do was put my seat up and drive to the store to get something to eat... That's it. :) So I totally understand when Carolyn says "The anxiety is all gone." Yup!!

The more I watch these videos the more I am interested. Being nearly 80, and having a daughter who worries, maybe not a good idea, but what the heck is life if one doesn't try what interests. I paint and would love to be able to go places where I could sit down for a while and paint.
Shoot I would have done that at least once in my life.
You can always adventure locally.
What does your daughter worry about? Your death? Better to die in a van looking at a sunset than have kids fight over your inheritance while they force you to 'bedrest'. Get out there woman, and quit dreaming and start livin'! We are all getting older, and so what?
How about day trips or longs weekends to reinvigorate your soul!
You should DO it!!! You can do it!! Your daughter will adapt and she will be happy knowing you are happy!

I'm thinking seriously about doing this, and I appreciate your giving us some encouragement to live independent, debt-free lives. Like you, Carolyn, I'd rather be a nomad, free to see the country, than a slave to debt, paying someone else's mortgage and being stuck in a run-down little house I don't own or have any control over. Your home is YOURS and that's the point. You go, girl! and Thanks!

Property taxes are government's way of stealing from everybody & building a few roads & whatever. Glorifying themselves that they doing things for you

I heard Carolyn say that it doesn't matter that that she can't stand up in her van, because she is outside a lot. I found out that the bigger the "camper" the less you go outside to enjoy the world. Great video Bob. Carolyn is so pretty and we always enjoy her videos too. Keep 'em coming!!!
I'm looking at this video again many months later and it hit me that Carolyn just did just enough to get her set for the road... rather than get bogged down with overwhelming details... these actually are the best interviews because they show courage in breaking out of the rat race.

Isn't it amazing how people think you should stay in a big home and struggle debt wise vs making this move?
You can't dictate what an individual needs. Some people DON'T NEED or WANT a "HomeBase" and that is just fine for them.What YOU/OTHERS NEED or WANT is fine and works for YOU. And YOU should enjoy that.Interesting vandwellers and nontraditional home owners are not trying to impose their perspectives of life on you.
it has really changed thinking as well when it comes to living life free. What's the point in paying the government property taxes each year or expensive bills. Why not just live free from it all. Being Canadian all need my passport, travel 6months at a time to the USA to get away from the cold depending on what I can afford. It would be a dream come true to just live the that life.

Agree. That's why I head to the country where there is less taxes and regulations. Need another Boston tea party. Cities are the worst for taxes.

When my Grandfather retired he lived in his Ford Eco line, (the small one from the 60's) for years, and was totally happy.

This is a very special need to hear people speak from the heart like Carolyn. Bob you are amazing how sensitive you are to interview all your guests. I spent my whole life carrying for dysfunctional youth and youth offenders in my own treatment center . You are correct how your tone of voice reflects your sincerity. Thanks for you great example of a human being.

Don't be fooled by the happiness you see on camera. When the camera stops rolling the loneliness and despair sets in. I personally would rather die than live in such cramped surroundings without running water or the ability to take a nice long hot soak in my tub or the ability to use a toilet and flush it and wash my hands with soap and hot water after. In my view, this kind of life is good for a few weeks or a few months, but certainly not for the long haul. There are so many other better options than being a permanent van dweller, pooping in buckets and using funnels to pea.

Laura Anderson I agree. She is beautiful and that smile. Very bright, articulate lady. I think a lot of us realize in our fifties that life isn't about material things and it's the simple things in life that make us happy.

All the van/camper/RV people all look like the happiest people in the world....while I sit with a violent drunk as a landlord below me. I wish I could try living like this!
I'm so tired of having horrible, scary neighbors. Even in nice towns I end up with the meth-head below me, screaming in the driveway until 3am. I cannot WAIT to buy a van and hit the road.
persiamotorman I'm just started research on this type of living. I'm so tired of apartment living. Noisy upstairs neighbors. So I'm hoping to hit the road in January.
@Patriot Jefferson so true. we could likely live w/half or less of the stuff we have as these folks found out. Closet full of clothes, cabinets full of dishes/glassware that we'll never use, bedrooms sitting vacant for years...paying for the trappings. Gotta give up a lot to camp too so not an easy ans.

Great interview. I recently posted on Carolyn's channel that she looks younger and prettier now than she did in the beginning of her videos when she was still in her house. Van life certainly seems to agree with her.

I just want to reach out to her through your channel because I know she has the comments turned off. I love your videos Carolyn and I started watching your videos because my friend is moving into her van. My friend has sick parents who are elderly, and kids, and a boyfriend, who all live in different places. Plus after losing just about everything from a divorce, it all just makes the most sense right now in her life. I hear you loud and clear about cyber bullying and depression, and we just lost a sweet member of vanlife community named Lee from Lee and Max. I never saw it coming. But it's so true that people are really sensitive and comments and words hurt. They started a fund to prevent cyber bullying in Lee's honor. I know there are a lot of sensitive people out there like us, and I would rather be a sensitive person than a bully any day. I hope you keep making inspiring videos to show others how this lifestyle can work and can be so fun for people who want to save money and travel. This is a good interview for someone on a budget! Seems like some of your interviewees have enough money to live more comfortably than others, but this lady knew exactly what she would “need” for the nomadic life. “Wants” can come as she can afford them...smart woman, and also so cute! Thank you, Bob, for helping these people live their “best” lives!

Listening to how these nomadic folks are so happy to be stress free and less anxiety riddled really speaks volumes about the sicknesses in the status quo society. They make a lot of sacrifices to be liberated from the everyday societal nightmare formally dubbed "the American dream."

Carolyn I looked back to this time and remembered just that. What you said, about being so calm and relaxed. Now due to current circumstances, things have changed. My prayer for you is for you to grab back your joy AND happiness, as well as the being relaxed. A lot has happened over the short time that would cause anyone to shed tears over Kitten, and what you're dealing with now. Grab back that happiness and softness. There's more people that love vs being haters. Be happy and safe.
I really value these videos. Makes me feel like when my kids are adults & on their own I can do the same. If it ever comes down to my husband & I splitting for good. Of course I would hope at least one of the little monsters would take care of me like I have them.
Although its not my goal to be divorced & on my own struggling. However some things are not worth putting up with. Ive never had a lot of money but do rent a home & have hot baths and survive. So if it came down to it I'm happy to be able to say I have the knowledge you share with the world to make it! So thank you for spending your life sharing with the world these amazing tips on how to survive like this!
Carolyn is so positive and upbeat. She epitomizes what being truly happy with your life looks like. Lots of money and ‘things’ that require so much of your life just to maintain doesn’t equal happiness. I suppose for some, things do mean happiness. I wish I would have discovered this type of lifestyle years ago! I would have my entire retirement in bank. but I live in a tiny house now which I've had for 2 years and I absolutely love it. No daily worries.
It is just amazing how many people live in cars an vans an RVs . its like if we all did that an no one lived in the ridiculously high priced apartments an homes they would have to lower there prices were I live they just built new apartment one bedrooms starting at 1,400 a month not including utilitys an the one bedrooms that are not from new apartments start at 1,100 utility not included its just insane

Bob, I am wondering if the nomad community uses any websites or other resources to find people who would allow you to spend a few nights on their property. I would love to offer my property to nomads for short term stays. I have 5 beautiful acres close to the freeway just outside of Sacramento CA.

Bob has videos on where to put poop. If you think there isn't human waste in trash cans everywhere think again, where do you think diapers go, pampers ect.
And adult diapers from all the nursing homes, and doggie poo bags.
I am delighted that so many people can live happily in a low top van. For those of us with arthritis and bad backs, that may not be a comfortable option. But I love hearing about people who can make it work.
We all might be living this way soon. If things get bad..
We all should be living like this until banks and corporates run out of people to sell for. The younger generation should start following this lifestyle until homes go down below 25k per home .

@@samlsd9711 .....You and Zia "get it". People are no more social these days than 30 years ago. I easily see this and much more. There's a reason mental illness is a huge problem rarely talked about in detail. Society is way too"plugged in" at a young age. Zippo self discovery ever accomplished. So many people act so identical too. I actually have studied this about people through so much interaction with others. These interviews show how a normal persons personality and thinking should be! Try and find one out ten people in a working class neighborhood who can express themselves like these rv'ers. It's downright scary to listen to people's terrible logic and so much more. Yep...perfect obedient worker bees that have no identity and need to "buy" their identity in various ways. Profiling them is so easy and amazingly accurate. Heck, there's only a few options to sadly have to choose from.
So true. I think this is just the beginning. What it will be like when millions are doing this, well....... But until then this looks like a really gr8 way to go. J

I really like something I can stand up in when I travel and boondock so I made my own mini travel trailer, it is only 5X8 feet but it has six feet of headroom and folks think it is cute so it doesn't ring any alarms wherever I go. Plus I have my small pickup bed for extra storage.
BTW, I enjoy following her, we are from the same state.

Right before I sold it I had mapped out a drawing of how I would create a home for me & my cats - now looking back I wish I had put a little more $ in it & hit the road. I am pretty much a loner who loves life & animals this lifestyle seems perfect for me. I'll be watching. Continue to shine.

Great job Carolyn.. I could watch your videos all day and night. Its Sunday night watching the Grammys and you during commercials. I spend 3-4 hours a night at home then back to commute and work. Sunday night 10:40pm take care I applaude you, you got guts.

if there was a way I could have my C-Pap machine and oxygen and able to power them, I would love to live like this women, I think its awesome and like she say I love my freedom and peace. I love camping I could live like this lady. I need a better van, solar that can power both C-Pap machine and oxygen resperator, that's cool living.

You can do this! I do I'm 59 and I have a tiny trailer. I'll be going to van life asap. RVs and trailers are costly and a pain. Vans are the most versatile. Go for it!
