I see alot of ppl are here after Midnight Mass. It brought me here, too, but I grew up listening to this. My Dad was a huge Neil Diamond fan & would blast this & his other great songs on the car stereo. My Dad passed away at only 44 years of age. Like Dad, I blasted this in the car on the way home today. Felt his presence with me & it made me smile.
Sometimes a piece of art has special meaning to an individual and it can be annoying seeing a bunch of Johnny come latelys flock to it. I'm one of those Johnny come latelys today, but I understand how hard it is communicating that feeling and appreciate you sharing a little piece of your relationship with your father today
I’m 76, and this was my favorite song back in the 70’s. I hadn’t heard it in years, then tonight I was amazed to see that Mike Flanagan included the entire song in the 3rd episode of his new Netflix series “Midnight Mass.” I was so moved that I had to get on TH-cam and listen to it again. Such a powerful song; I don’t think there has ever been anything quite like it. ..
I was never a big Neil Diamond fan-never had a problem, but I never got into him. After hearing this song in Midnight Mass, I went down the rabbit hole. This song was used perfectly in the show, too. Excellent song and show.
I agree Chris, the song fit perfectly with the theme of the show. And Midnight Mass, that show was absolutely amazing. I’ve never seen anything remotely close to it. Only from the mind of Mike Flanagan…
My mom died 40 yrs ago and she loved Neil Diamond. I never loved anyone as much as I loved my mother. That’s pretty sad isn’t it? But I loved her so much. I just can’t explain it ....more than any man I ever met. It was a pure selfless love with no expectations. I woulda given my life for her. When she left the world, it was never the same.
I don't usually add comments but your words moved me and I can relate to losing a Mum and missing her presence in your life. Hope you are well and wishing all the best from sunny Scotland x
How fortunate to be blessed with that kind of love from your mother. A relationship between a mother and daughter is truly something no one else will ever understand and not every daughter gets to have that with their mom. I’ll cherish my mom forever as well 🌙
Hey Leroy, same as you, midnight mass!! My Dad's favourite was always so sung blue and my mum's is sweet caroline but in terms of sheer passion this song is as good as it gets. Whack some headphones on and make sure there is no one else around so you can just sing along at the top of your voice. It will leave you feeling free of life's issues when it's done, but you will keep humming it for a few days afterwards for sure!

Here because of Midnight Mass. Great soundtrack! "Holly Holy" has always been one of my favorite Diamond songs, and it was PERFECT for the show. It's great reacquainting myself with all his wonderful music!
My brother died last year, and he bought this album back in the 70's. I liked it then, but I LOVE it now with another tear in my eye! I will miss you my brother!!!
I'm 69 yrs old, so was a young teen when N.D. first hit the airwaves. I smile when reading the comments from younger people, who have either never heard of him, or these songs, until they're featured in a movie, or a show. It feels odd to be this age, but I'm so grateful to have grown up in the 60s & 70s; I know every generation thinks it, but mine really did have the best music ❤. Also, a side note: in Memphis, TN, there was a profsnl music recording studio, called American Studios. Some of the greatest production records of all time were made there, in the 60s & 70s. Most all of them used the same "session musicians" & producers, like Holly Holy, including Hooked On A Feeling (BJ Thomas), Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, by Neil D, I believe MacArthur Park? (R. Harris), and Suspicious Minds, by Memphis native, Elvis P. They are masterpcs of instrumental, arrangement, & engineering beauty. No live version can approach them. I can't imagine that any of them would have been as successful as they were, w/o those very talented people (who don't get enough credit for their contributions). A great documentary on this subject (but at a different studio, in Alabama), is MUSCLE SHOALS. (The regular session musicians were affectionately know as "the swampers". Even mentioned in the Lynard Skynard song).
when everyone else was listening to the Beatles, I could not get enough of Neil Diamond. People looked at me like I was crazy! His music has transcended time. A classic. My favorite!

Love the Piano, Gospel background singers, the Orchestra arrangements, and of course, Neil Diamond's AMAZING vocals!!!!😍 This is just a beautiful song, and I can't believe that it was released in 1969! Still a beautiful song, 51 years later!👍 The year, 1969, was memorable, and I was (10) years old: RFK's(Bobby Kennedy) assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, trial; the Apollo Moon Landing; Sen. Ted Kennedy/Chappaquiddick; Charles Manson, and the Tate/LaBianca Murders; and the Zodiac killer, terrorizing San Francisco, CA! Thank God, that we had amazing music, like "Holly Holy," to listen to!!!!!🤗

Rena hold on tight to your love. My heart is sad for you. This song makes me cry every time I hear it; I feel the music, the words, his voice vibrate in my chest and I cry for my own losses. Hold on tight to your love, you will have some rough days ahead and I am so very sorry for the loss of your mama but remember this Rena, we never truly die, just our bodies wear out but we go on..our spirits fly and one fine day you will be with her again.
Ever since I watched Midnight Mass I've become obsessed with this song and anything to do with the show. Thank you so much for posting this. I'd never even knew this song existed before, I'm so glad I do now.
I am so obsessed with midnight mass too 😆 I need to calm lol I laugh at how I have such an obsessive personality. I can't just watch something great and be like cool. Cool. Lol no I have to fcking live it every day after 😂
Neil says “this is a song of consciousness. You aren’t suppose to listen to the words. Just let the music move you.” Do you get that? I just close my eyes and let the music spirit me along. Absolutely beautiful. If I keep my eyes open it is hard not to listen to the words. But with them closed I can see his face so full of powerful emotion and feel the beat of it. So moving. I love this song so much.
The music to this song is so moving but not to listen to the words is impossible because Neil is a poet and the two together just takes it to another level.
I'm confused I mean first I have to say that that's not exactly what he said at all and 2nd he said what he did in like 1970-1971 a time when everything was still HEAVILY censored and he had to say it, make no mistake about 2 things 1. This song is about a man and wife getting between the sheets and getting nasty and what they hope to achieve by it (other than there own carnal pleasures) and he couldn't exactly say that back then so he done a bit of bush beating and spooked that ridiculous trippy ass undecipherable cryptic bs about "yeah just be conscience 😉 and just let it guide you man 😉😉 and just cause I wrote a song with like 182 fucking words in it doesn't mean your suppose to listen to them man 😉😉😉 and 2nd. If Neil Diamond wrote and recorded lyrics then they were absolutely 100% without any shadow of doubt meant to be heard and listened too
It's the Holy Spirit that evokes the love I hear in this "hymn" Consciousness is all fine and good. Fullness of our awareness happens when we graduate to eternity. One Path. Be open, be blessed 🙌🏼
A good friend of mine who is a Vietnam POW/ Purple Heart introduced me to this song. After being injured several in combat he woke in a hospital to this song playing on a near by radio..
Neil's a national treasure. His style may seem dated now compared to current pop stars, but what he wrote and performed still stands the test of time!!! Never saw him in concert. Never bought one of his records, but I am still listening to so many of his songs.
The way this was used in Midnight Mass blew my mind. Total genius. I just watched that mini series in 2 days and I am still unpacking how good it was. Hamish Linklater better win an award. I've never seen a performance like that. Amazing.
I was in 7th grade when Cherry, Cherry came out. I had just graduated high school when Holly Holy came out. Neil Diamond is huge - I love his music. Now I'm 68 and had tears in my eyes when I listened to Holly Holy. What a long, strange trip it's been.
Thank you, Mr. Neil Diamond for leading a new generation into interpretative style, so adeptly designed. Contains fabulous lyrics and wonderful musicianship! A devoted fan.
Having Neil Diamond’s music in Midnight Mass was amazing! I’ve played all 3 song numerous times and love them just as much as in the 70’s. All his songs are inspirational and so heartfelt ❤️
Back in the day, Artists just walked up to the microphone and sang. No auto tune, no pitch correction etc. Add some nice reverb in the final mix, and you were done. talent. Talent like Neil has. So sorry to hear parkinsons disease is after him. Best wishes to you Neil.
Touching Me Touching You was the first Neil Diamond album I ever bought. I bought it shortly after it was released and I played this song so many times that it became hissy. I still get that album out every now and again and listen to it. I saw Neil in concert this summer at Rio Tinto stadium for the 7th time. No other artist gives more of themselves to their fans than he does.
Neil Diamond is an exquisite singer. He bring's to his song's, a feeling of warmth, and lovely feeling's!!!! I have listened to him for such a long time, and I still love every song....He is a class act!!!! ❤️❤️❤️..🌹🌹🌹.. 💎💎💎💎...
Saw the title and i too thought of how my mom loved this song, like the top comment, we could listen to Neil together back in the 70's. My mom was so good and hard working, she had a tough life with all us kids and our really horrible father. He'd come home from vietnam always mad, so often yelling for what seemed no good reason - tHe only one who could calm him was my mom. I as always amazed at how she stayed with him Funny how these old songs remind us of people from long ago, my mom suffered a horrible cancer in the 90's , and died in lots of prolonged pain. Holy Holy to my mom, i'd love to sing this to her if i could.
This is the most beautiful song of yours Mr. Neil! I was 11 years old when my mom bought your album with this song on it! I've played it all these years and I'll be turning 65 in August! It always makes me feel so good and I have it written down as one of the songs that will be played when my Creator takes me home! ❣️🏹❣️🙏❣️🙏 4:27
THE best song Neil has ever done, followed by Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Sweet Caroline, and Brooklyn Roads. Nothing short of a musical monument! Thanks for those golden memories of 1969. Released October 18, 1969 reaching #6 on December 27.
As a member of The Wrecking Crew... We did the music on this one and Cracklin Rosie.... Neil is one hell of an artist... and thanks for helping to make us famous....
Have to tell you, not long ago when I read somewhere else (source, can't recall??) that The Wrecking Crew backed him on this, I said to myself.... "Ah, well that explains why the studio version is so magnificent!" The live performances have their own appeal, but, without argument, nothing can match the studio version. Of course, you all are amazing musicians. I saw The Wrecking Crew documentary when it was screened live several years ago at a theater here in Los Angeles and Denny was there to do commentary and Q&A afterwards with the audience. It is an evening I'll never forget. Not truly prepared for what I was about to see, I sat, in amazement, as each story, song, musician or musical group's history with The Wrecking Crew was unfolded thinking "Wait, that one too????" All the music chronicled in the documentary as well as what I have learned about since, I have entitled "The Soundtrack of my Childhood...." So thanks for that! I watch The Wrecking Crew every so often just because it makes me feel so good and so thankful for your contribution - I'm certain I'm not the only person who holds this view of what you all did.
With an artist of the caliber of Neil , it is hard to say that any song was his best because there were so many great songs , but I think this was the best of his work . That is the humble opinion of one man who loves music and truly appreciates Neil
I could rank my top 50 Neil Diamond songs, but then the next time I do the same the order would be different. Bottom line is I don't think I can really say which is his best in my opinion.
I GREW UP IN THE LATE sixties 70's and my parents threw this dinner parties with Neil, the Beatles ect...ect....ect My brother Adam and I would sit at the Top of the stairs listening to the party & the music. This song was one I remember most.......then Netflix midnight mass was released, how perfect Neil Diamond and his music fit into the series script.
My mom was a huge Neil Diamond fan so I knew all of the songs in 'Midnight Mass'. But this scene...well it moved me incredibly and I think it was the best scene in the whole show.
This song is from the Fall of 1969 and brings back different memories to many different people. It has power and feeling to it! Unforgettable! Holy Holy!..,
I think so elvis not.saying elvis will beat him but has i say go head too head i know my music and i have been told, love them both a fan from england, 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑❤❤❤❤❤👑👑👑
Great memories of this wonderful song! The best is the time we played this multiple times on a cassette player in my friend's Holden car in the Australian Outback. We traveled through the middle of Australia from the Northern Territory to South Australia, then across the desert to Perth, and broke down twice in the 45 degree C heat. We played this song and other ND songs on his greatest hits cassette over and over during our 5 week road trip. Will never forget the emotions and strength it brought us in the face of adversity.
THAT's IT!!!!!!!!!!!........that is why I consider this song to be in the top 20 inspirational, motivating, super fantastic rock music survey of all time.....you do truly just fall into it ..
When I was young, it was not cool with my friends to like Neil Diamond, but, I’m sorry, this is an inspirational classic! I had tears hearing it again after all these years.
It expresses a lot of what we don't know, but it's deep, important feelings and carries a lot of power. Neil Diamond has a calling to write such things, for sure.
Listened to this song on the radio back in the day.... Let it rest until recently. Not sure why but now I cannot get it out of my head. Re-liven the old times again.....oh the old times can't beat em.
Camp Lejeune, Nov. 1969. Heard another Marine picking this on his guitar. Liked it so much, I sat on the floor of the barracks with him and a couple of other guys and sang it over and over while the guitar guy kept us in tune. Good memory. Next month, got my orders for Vietnam.
I remember my mother being a Neil diamond fan she passed away in 1995 at the age of 48 and I became a Neil diamond fan because of my parents brought 2 Neil diamond records and I don't remember what happened to those records but I have found the songs that I really liked and I am very happy about that ❤ sincerely Shannon
I had a bad dream. I want to feel better. So I played this. I'm 65. I was in elementary school where I first heard this and it made me feel strong. Thank you.
Maybe a new song to me but this is what Neil Diamond usually sounds like, so I must be at the right party. Wholly Holly Dreams! What a great idea and fab tune.

Hold on tight to your love, you will have some rough days ahead and I am so very sorry for the loss of your mama but remember this Rena, we never truly die, just our bodies wear out but we go on..our spirits fly and one fine day you will be with her again.
Rena Edwards (hugs) I'm so sorry. 😓
My love for Neil was instilled in me by my mom as well. I miss her too.
My sincere sympathy. We've all been through the mill. We all know the pain of loss.

What a beautiful song. Watched Midnight Mass and now every time my wife hears it she breaks down in tears, never fails, unbelievable.
This Man is friggin AMAZING. Songwriter, and his VOICE! Omg.
Again....Great music doesn’t have a expiration date.... timeless !!!!!
true!
Well said -- there is so much garbage out there .. but this? I'll always experience the same Joy as when It first came out 🤎🤎🤎🤎
Ever since I watched Midnight Mass I've become obsessed with this song and anything to do with the show. Thank you so much for posting this. I'd never even knew this song existed before, I'm so glad I do now.
I am so obsessed with midnight mass too 😆 I need to calm lol I laugh at how I have such an obsessive personality. I can't just watch something great and be like cool. Cool. Lol no I have to fcking live it every day after 😂
same!!!
Love reading the comments of what this song means to so many people. This can inspire me to go out & do something good for someone in need.
I hadn't heard this in years but always loved it! Thank you Netflix and Midnight Mass!
Is, and has always been my favorite Neil Diamond song. It’s awe inspiring. Now I have to go find out what this “Midnight Mass” is. 😁
There never was anyone like Neil, nor will there ever be again. He's a national treasure. Brilliant.
I was walking through the countryside listening to this on my mp3. The song aroused such joy in my heart that I had a kundalini awakening.
If Neil Diamond wrote and recorded lyrics then they were absolutely 100% without any shadow of doubt meant to be heard and listened too
It's the Holy Spirit that evokes the love I hear in this "hymn"
Consciousness is all fine and good. Fullness of our awareness happens when we graduate to eternity. One Path.
Be open, be blessed 🙌🏼
"This song is a STREAM of consciousness," he said in a live 1971 clip here on TH-cam. "You don't just listen to it, you have to feel it."
One of my favorite Neil Diamond songs! Loved how it was used in Midnight Mass.
Love this song. Every time I hear this song, I feel like the gospel is being preached. Such a joyful blessing. Thank you Neil for the message
Beautifully written and Sung! I live you Neil Diamond ever since I was a child. I am 53 now!!!! Thank you!
This song gives me shivers. . .that gospel choir, wonderful!
+Anne Boleyn neil is 73 0r74 now and still packs them in in cluding me
His songs often hint of religious upbringing....like the reference to 'song of songs' here.
That is also my favorite part of the song!
A good friend of mine who is a Vietnam POW/ Purple Heart introduced me to this song. After being injured several in combat he woke in a hospital to this song playing on a near by radio..
Thank You Heavenly Father To Give Us Such Talent. Peace And Love
Amen

Sing it strong sing it loud... It doesn't get any better than this... Neil is unreal what a beautiful voice.
Neil's a national treasure. His style may seem dated now compared to current pop stars, but what he wrote and performed still stands the test of time!!! Never saw him in concert. Never bought one of his records, but I am still listening to so many of his songs.
His style is different but I think it holds up extremely well. Still great music
I saw him in concert in Philadelphia and he was absolutely amazing!
I always get such a spiritual vibe from Neil Diamond's music. Love him, timeless!!
I love it. It's very much worship music. He wrote a lot of these songs when he lived alone writing for dime store publishing houses.
You have to wonder why Diamond links the name Holly to Holy.
Such a timeless classic. Thank you Neil Diamond for sharing your beautiful voice, music and soul.
Saw him live with my wife just before she died. Still tears me up.
Jackson Wells so sorry for your loss 😥
Jackson Wells sorry about your wife I hope God helps you always!
I just lost my husband 6/5/18,this was his favorite song by Neil diamond.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
@@brendastephens1218 I'm sorry for your loss. Sending a prayer for strength and healing.
This is like sacred music. Like a hymn. Rock n roll holy.

Ditto ~ Even now in April 2019
ikr!
Thank you, Mr. Neil Diamond for leading a new generation into interpretative style, so adeptly designed. Contains fabulous lyrics and wonderful musicianship! A devoted fan.
Hello Jacqueline
I've been listening to this for two days and still can't get enough. There are so many meanings
Midnight mass brought me here too. Every time I listen to it I picture the mom and dad dancing
Thank you for uplifting and inspiring me, Neil!
Midnight Mass did bring me here. I called it before I knew it was Mr.Neil . What a song 🤙🏼
shouldn't midnight mass bring you to Jesus instead of neil?
Neil Diamond is an exquisite singer. He bring's to his song's, a feeling of warmth, and lovely feeling's!!!! I have listened to him for such a long time, and I still love every song....He is a class act!!!! ❤️❤️❤️..🌹🌹🌹.. 💎💎💎💎...
What do you admire most about Neil
Sing it to her. She can hear you.
Prayers and love for your mum ❤
This song makes me think there is actually HOPE for the human race!
Only in the 70s
You're right, Nathan--only Christ can give you hope. But this song makes me want to praise Him all the more, for everything He did for me!😊💒
far fetched !
there is no hope
It’s an oldie at this point
One of my favorite songs of all time. Have loved Neil since I was 16 or 17(over 50 years ago). Keep on trucking Neil.
The Best … !!
This will Always be A Golden Song of Joy. A Masterpiece to Last Eternity.❤🙏🕊️
RIP Mr Osborn (Wrecking Crew), bassist on this song and many others (including Bridge Over Troubled Water, Ventura Highway)
Bill Aken thank you for your music.
This is an incredible song. Love it. You did a magnificent job! I am sure Neil appreciated it at the time and still does to this day!
I envy you - you were part of the Legend.
With an artist of the caliber of Neil , it is hard to say that any song was his best because there were so many great songs , but I think this was the best of his work . That is the humble opinion of one man who loves music and truly appreciates Neil
this pulls at me from a gut-level- amazing skill, building in crescendo as my heart reaches to that final note!
that is the most sensible comment I have seen on youtube
I could rank my top 50 Neil Diamond songs, but then the next time I do the same the order would be different. Bottom line is I don't think I can really say which is his best in my opinion.
I GREW UP IN THE LATE sixties 70's and my parents threw this dinner parties with Neil, the Beatles ect...ect....ect
My brother Adam and I would sit at the Top of the stairs listening to the party & the music. This song was one I remember most.......then Netflix midnight mass was released, how perfect Neil Diamond and his music fit into the series script.
I can't stop listening to Holly Holy!!! Best of Neil Diamond!!
Me too. I am 82 and I've loved him for as long as he's been singing. I still love him now that he's retired.
My mom was a huge Neil Diamond fan so I knew all of the songs in 'Midnight Mass'. But this scene...well it moved me incredibly and I think it was the best scene in the whole show.
Hello Thea
He sings w such gusto.. really puts the emotion thru better than most singers
His songs just aren't as good when other singers sing them.
@@John-mk3oe very true John. Nobody sings Neil's songs like Neil... I just love him.
The man is pure silk. Love this song...
"The man is pure silk." He is.
This song is from the Fall of 1969 and brings back different memories to many different people. It has power and feeling to it! Unforgettable! Holy Holy!..,
50 years... still breathtaking!!!
Puts my in 1969 again ! Funny , how a tune can do that in an instant … Flip on all the feelings and happenings of that year I turned 17 ☺️
Midnight Mass brought me here! I’m near 60 and of course I’ve heard of Neil Diamond but never paid attention to this song! I love it!!
One of the very greatest....no voice and musical charisma has ever matched Neil Diamond! History's making!
I think so elvis not.saying elvis will beat him but has i say go head too head i know my music and i have been told, love them both a fan from england,
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑❤❤❤❤❤👑👑👑
Great memories of this wonderful song! The best is the time we played this multiple times on a cassette player in my friend's Holden car in the Australian Outback. We traveled through the middle of Australia from the Northern Territory to South Australia, then across the desert to Perth, and broke down twice in the 45 degree C heat. We played this song and other ND songs on his greatest hits cassette over and over during our 5 week road trip. Will never forget the emotions and strength it brought us in the face of adversity.
Midnight mass brought me here.. Thx
The use of the background singers and violins. Beautiful. Very fitting for the song
The background singers and violins really make the song in the end.. … ❤️
Midnight Mass brought me here. Never heard of this song. Flanagan nailed it on the sequence, it gave me goosebumps!
Midnight Mass used this wonderful song in a masterful montage. Excellent series. Excellent director!
Thank you Midnight Mass. A perfect song for a perfect scene. Capturing the atmosphere of the town's revival.
Been hearing it for decades, never read the lyrics, i don't even read them here - the music just takes over and i fall into it
yes...and that is the majestical beauty of a masterpiece of music....
THAT's IT!!!!!!!!!!!........that is why I consider this song to be in the top 20 inspirational, motivating, super fantastic rock music survey of all time.....you do truly just fall into it ..
Neil said in an interview that the song has no meaning, it's a feeling. Those are the most Beautiful songs ❤️
Such a beautiful song with such emotion. Nothing compares to the music of the past.
Bernardine -
One of my favorites. Love the old testament and new testament references, the Gospel Chorus is outstanding. A song to last.
Listened to this song on the radio back in the day.... Let it rest until recently. Not sure why but now I cannot get it out of my head. Re-liven the old times again.....oh the old times can't beat em.
I feel very Holy whenever I hear this song. It's like a spiritual experience. First time I heard it was Christmastime 1969.
This is by far my favorite Neil Diamond song and one of my all time favorites from the 60s
This song caught my attention on Midnight Mass. I’d never heard it before, but Neil Diamond’s voice is instantly recognisable.
A tremendous, uplifting song: vocally, lyrically, musically---in every way! Arguably the best song in ND's catalog!
Was habe ich diese Zeit und Lieder geliebt.
Bin jetzt 71 Jahre alt und denke oft zurück
Mir geht es ganz genau so und ich bin 73 ❤❤
I had a bad dream. I want to feel better. So I played this. I'm 65. I was in elementary school where I first heard this and it made me feel strong. Thank you.
Me too. Grade 6.
Thank you, Mrs. Whelan.
Maybe a new song to me but this is what Neil Diamond
usually sounds like, so I must be at the right party.
Wholly Holly Dreams! What a great idea and fab tune.
It is so beautiful, i can listen to it all day, it speaks to my soul, thank you,
I'll love all songs of Neil Diamond forever! God bless him!! 😇👏👏👏
