I saw Neil Diamond in concert when I was 21 years old. I am 67 and will never forget it. He is absolutely amazing. Holly Holy is my favorite of all his songs. And they are ALL great!
Being a singer-songwriter myself growing up on a.m. gold on the radio in San Diego California I always thought I'd be hard-pressed to pick my favorite song of all time. But here it is.. Neil Diamond's " Holly Holy ". I've heard him in an interview say that this is a "stream of consciousness song".. that you're not even supposed to pay attention to the lyrics. But on this dear Neil I have failed miserably because each one of your words speaks directly into my heart. One of the most beautiful love songs ever written... The emotion in your eyes in this video could move any boat across an ocean.... The whole entire video is exquisite and I am obsessed quite literally. I believe this is my third or fourth post on this song of yours.
This song gives me chills. I've known how wonderful he was - but as I aged forgot just how emotional his songs were.then I watched Midnight Mass the music was so moving in this. I think I have watched it 15 times. Beautiful - moving. We don't get music like this now.
This is a man and artist that should live forever! No generation would tire of his music ! His eyes are so soulful and his music unmistakeable and unforgettable
Oh yeah !!! I had never heard the ND song played during the opening tragic scene. Finding a new GREAT song from that .... our fabulous era was .... heart warming.
I am completely obsessed with the emotion expressed in his eyes... The set design and the dancers and of course that incredibly beautiful string arrangement... that seems to lift you up. This is my favorite song of all time. Personal thanks to the one and only.. Mr Neil Diamond....
The gospel choir and the violins along with Neil's stunning voice makes this song pure magic. I've always loved this track but I've really rediscovered this gem since watching the Netflix series "Midnight Mass". Mike Flanagan always picks the most epic and unforgettable soundtracks.
This is one of his best songs! Holly Holy undoubtedly shows that this man is in touch with his heart! Neil diamond shows in his song his voice and his eyes that he is a man of Christ our Lord God bless you Neil diamond!
What the F are you talking about....This song is about placing a women as as a god like figure, that he's obviously in love with....(ah, his words by the way, and I believe he is Jewish)
"Call the sun in the dead of the night And the sun's gonna rise in the sky Touch a man who can't walk upright And that lame man, he's gonna fly And I fly And I fly" THAT is some marvelous writing!
I don’t know if you can get any better a performance and emotional song than this… on the Ed Sullivan Show no less. My family never missed a show. Every Sunday evening. Like clock work we all gathered around the set. Neil Diamond is simply brilliant!
He had written another hit song just before this song . Sweet Carolina came out when I was 14 years old. That song got me the the hard times, and that Summer of ‘69 was filled with long and hot Indiana summers and the long wait for school to start up for my Freshman year. When Holly Holy came out later in the Winter of that same year, I felt a sense of Church, as it is very uplifting to me. Neil has such a great voice when he sings! A true Rock and Hall Famer!
Wonderful. If this song doesn’t move you and get you going, I don’t if anything will. Such a talent! I love the late ‘60’s colors and styles. Great memories of my adolescent years.
Here because of Midnight Mass. The scene where they used this music was so goooood Edit: and wow this performance slaps 🔥 Love the hippie worship vibes lmao
This song can still choke me up l; was 8 years old when it came out I'm 60 now and it still gets me deep, Thank You Neil for all the masterpieces you've created I never get tired of them...
No it's not. Neil is Jewish, and although he crafts some of his songs to have Christian appeal (ambiguously Christian), he writes about a singular God and his faith as a Jew. And I'm fine with that as a Christian myself.
I’m 20 and not even a Christian or religious at all but this song fills me with hope and comfort. I discovered it from that really great Netflix show Midnight Mass and now it’s one of my favorite songs.
I wonder just how many Christians and Jews actually understand this song and in particular this performance of it!? Lots of depth to that rabbit hole that few have probably gone down. Don't let movies motivate your spirit ;) You've got the power inside you to reach heights untold or seen.
Neil's best performance of this song on TH-cam. He really gets into it. I wonder while he was performing the song if Ed Sullivan was back stage trying to figure out what this song was actually about.
WHAT A MAN! LOVE NEIL DIAMOND, HE IS BRILLIANT, GOOD SINGER AND SONG WRITER, HE HAS WRITTEN MORE SONGS THAN ANY OTHER PERSON IN HISTORY!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It happens that I can listen to the wounderful song "Holly holy", sung by the US- american singer Neil Diamond. I know this wounderful song since my youth days in the 60ties and I very appreciate this song.
He dropped out of college just shy of graduating to follow his dream and never looked back; He made his own path, regardless of the trends and created a legacy that has endured. A top tier composition skillfully written and performed.
Neil can command an audience like no other entertainer I've seen. And since the 70s thru the 80s I've seen the biggest bands & solo artists. Neil was absolutely electricfying! Now im a "Believer"! Neil went to NYC to pursue being a Dr. Lawd have mercy thank God he pursued the music career that forever changed his life, and his music was/ is/ will be a huge part of my life!
Loved Neil Diamond from 1968 onwards - saw him in concert and had most of his albums - we share the same birthdate 24th January! - never had a bad song - I love Jonathon Livingstone Seagull the music is amazing 💕
I had to hear this song again after seeing the Netflix series "Midnight Mass", as others have indicated. The song, which I had not heard in a long time, has been stuck in my head for a couple of weeks. I don't remember Mr. Diamond doing this on Ed Sullivan. What a great performance.
Boy do I agree we were lucky to witness some of the best singers, bands of that time and to me the 60's was the best no insult to noone else plus loving the British Invasion and of coarse The Beatles as I sometimes won't mention cause of the smarty pants comments people make. To me Neil Diamond was the Best and as much times as I watch it over and over it still chokes me
J'avoue l'avoir découvert dans la série "Sermons de Minuit", depuis je l'écoute 10 fois par jour, un bonheur pour les oreilles. Merci Monsieur @Neil Diamond.
I just love this song!! I've listened it since I attended to one of his concerts almost 40 years ago and still moves me every time I hear it!! Simply wonderful as many of his songs!!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for posting this! I've been looking for a long time for this clip. This is where it all began for me. I was a young teen when I watched this on television, and I've LOVED Neil Diamond ever since. Thank you. Thank you.
My favorite Neil Diamond song, too. He explained it once as being a "stream of consciousness" song where you never listen to the lyrics (presumably, because they don't make sense,) you just listen to the feelings they convey.
Grew up with Neil... powerful song. Recall this Ed Sullivan show.... so handsome.. sigh. Neil is the man. Recommendation. AND THE GRASS WONT CRY. .....AMAZING ❤❤
Neil screams like a rock singer on this one. Pretty amazing guy at the start. No wonder every girl in creation wanted to jump him. This song is really different, impossible to place, more of a jam than most of Neil's songs, but still great and one of his.
One of the greatest masterpieces in history and his best song. Memories of magical 1969. I still have the UNI 45. I watched this particular episode. R.I.P., Ed. Released on October 18, 1969 reaching #6 (#1 in our hearts with heavy radio airplay) on December 27.
I saw Neil Diamond in concert when I was 21 years old. I am 67 and will never forget it. He is absolutely amazing. Holly Holy is my favorite of all his songs. And they are ALL great!
Love all of his songs!!!
I've seen him live twice. This could be his best.
It's not my favorite. But it is dramatic.
How can anybody not love this song. A total masterpiece.
Masterpiece he is for sure and aging well and handsome as ever or more handsome as he ages, how about that!
@@shelahchapman1578 Well I’m not going to comment on that. I love the song, let’s leave it there.
You'd have to be dead

I have also seen midnight mass 3 times, this song makes that montage scene so powerful and emotional
Neil is one amazing person
It's hard to believe that this song was released during the start of the Christmas season in 1969 or 1970..did you have a 45 of this inspiring song?
If you listen to a radio station that plays oldies you might hear it
@@TheJeffiboxI wonder if the series is set in a decade like the late 60's
This is a man and artist that should live forever! No generation would tire of his music ! His eyes are so soulful and his music unmistakeable and unforgettable
He is the best looking man I've ever seen, even now,he's 83yrs still got that sorrowful look, love his music too😊😊
What a fantastic music Era we had ! Never to be repeated!

This is the song that began my lifelong obsession with Neil Diamond seeing him in concert at least a dozen times
What a handsome and gorgeous young man, and those eyes were amazing, plus his voice.... he had it all.... 👌👍☺
I know! Is it any wonder I fell in love with him when I saw this performance In Nov '69?
(He has it all)
He Still Has It And AlWays Will !!!
He's like a Jewish version of Elvis.
@@jonhirst9679 AMEN to that! I still find him fascinating and so inspiring... what a HUGE talent!!!!! 💖
Great use of this classic song in new Netflix series "Midnight Mass"...simply powerful, amazing...In Episode 3.
Oh yeah !!! I had never heard the ND song played during the opening tragic scene. Finding a new GREAT song from that .... our fabulous era was .... heart warming.
Yes. Got goosebumps hearing that on there!

My favourite TV montage giving me a new favourite song
HOLY SMOKES! Beautiful voice and a very handsome man
No matter how many times I hear this wonderful song....it just gets better and better. My favourite by far!
That set-Those dancers-THAT VOICE- and all live...What a mighty time it was.
I thought the dancers were unnecessary - but they were bloody good.
Hippies 🙂

MY FAVORITE WHICH IS HARD TO CHOOSE ❤❤😂
Makes me tearful every time ❤
What the F are you talking about....This song is about placing a women as as a god like figure, that he's obviously in love with....(ah, his words by the way, and I believe he is Jewish)
This song is a spiritual feeling !
"Call the sun in the dead of the night
And the sun's gonna rise in the sky
Touch a man who can't walk upright
And that lame man, he's gonna fly
And I fly
And I fly"
THAT is some marvelous writing!
Absolutely!
I don’t know if you can get any better a performance and emotional song than this… on the Ed Sullivan Show no less. My family never missed a show. Every Sunday evening. Like clock work we all gathered around the set. Neil Diamond is simply brilliant!
Absolute Classic! If you don’t feel this song and get you going, nothing will. Beautiful Neil!
Neil! Good Lord this man could and can sing! Keep it up, Neil!
Seeing Neil sing one of my favourite songs on The Ed Sullivan Show doesn't get much better. Many thanks'.
You can tell he sang along with the record (backup vocals, instruments, etc.), but I still love this performance on Ed.
Great songwriter.
Melody, Lyrics, Charisma.
I think a show like Ed did could not exist a long time today., because we have no good music today!
His voice is just PERFECTION
What a strong performance by Neil Diamond 💪. Takes my breath away 🤩
I was privileged to see him live in concert. He sounded as good in concert as he did on the record. Very highly talented artist.
Saw him twice on his Ameruca tour! So awesome!!!! Great artist!!!
me too! it was the first concert I took my folks to, at Red Rocks. It was like 10 years later though. They were never the same!
I said it before and I'll say it again ... magnificent classic - both the song and the man. Thank you Neil for this trip through time. Vince Kloss
This is in my opinion... The hand of God that blessed us all with the remarkable and timeless... Supernatural talent of NEIL DIAMOND.
Played this song over and over when my kids were growing up and little did I know his songs were forever etched in their minds as was I.
He had written another hit song just before this song . Sweet Carolina came out when I was 14 years old. And utter confidence
Holy beautiful, gorgeous man! I was actually born the day after this aired!. Just love this song. Damn, he looks sooooo hot!
Undoubtedly A Man
Completely In Touch

The acoustics in that theater were astounding, and added to the live performances. And that dance choreography was spectacular.
An incredible voice.

Hard to choose a favorite. So many great ones. But this is in my top three. Love the man from Brooklyn.
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more.
Cleanse the soul and wash away the pain
This song is about Jesus Christ coming to our world to Save. Wondetfully written yo not scare anyone off but still get it. Genius.
No it's not. Neil is Jewish, and although he crafts some of his songs to have Christian appeal (ambiguously Christian), he writes about a singular God and his faith as a Jew. And I'm fine with that as a Christian myself.
Thirty for validation?
Love the dancers interpretations.
Midnight Mass brought me here. Great show, but man this song knocked me out.
I’m 20 and not even a Christian or religious at all but this song fills me with hope and comfort. I discovered it from that really great Netflix show Midnight Mass and now it’s one of my favorite songs.

There'll never be another Neil Diamond. The American performer who really gave us the totality of human emotion, in song. 🙏
Production with a hippie, sixties vibe to it. Excellent.
Also Christmas-y vibe this song sounds like they've sampled the string arrangement from Gene pitney's song "last train to Tulsa"
What a handsome man. I honestly LOVE the colors of the stage. Just so '70's.
Holy mackerel. Serious drama. Brilliant. Thank you for uploading!
The string arrangement on this seems to catch you up... Lifting you onto another level... swirling
Ooh that voice always gives me chills. Just beautiful.
That voice! And those eyes!
Man, he was gorgeous! And what pipes!
Brilliant.
ohne worte, großartiger künstler !!!!
He had it all, amazing♥️

Was a freshman in high school when this song came out. Thank God we had Ed Sullivan.
Absolute perfection
I love this song Neil diamond is my husband's favorite singer 💗
