Gonna have to agree with John :P World Is A Thorn I'd have to say is their heaviest, more in-your-face album. A perfect example of this is the title track, it just kicks right in with no warning, makes me want to destroy something xD super fun to sing along to also (or scream along to :P ). But yeah, Triptych is definitely the pinnacle of Demon Hunter's discography. It's that one album that they just can't top.

The World Is A Thorn is one of the most important albums for Demon Hunter. Considering that one of the song in that album got into the Killing Floor 2. I think it helped them grow in popularity the most. Also Summer Of Darkness is #1
I love all their albums for different reasons, I have been into them since the beginning, I’m a huge supporter, I will say the album outlive came out at a time that I was going through the most hardest time I’ve ever been through in my life, I don’t know if I would have been alive if it wasn’t for that album, even the slowest of songs on this album brings me to tears even when I listen to it now, I fell in love with that album, the only problem is , is now when I play it back now, it causes me to be depressed, kind of sucks as I love it so much! I really like extremists as well!

I've been listening to DH since December of 2011. I am a huge fan, they are among one of my all time favorites. I started with The World is a Thorn which I got for my Birthday. They have such a diverse catalog at this point and it is so full of quality material, though they aren't all perfect. I did get to see them live and meet them in August of 2014. I LOVE the ballads, they are SO good with them and I have said many times I would love to hear an album full of DH ballads. I disagree with some of your opinions, as DH has shifted quite a bit. I personally LOVE The World is a Thorn. I think it has some of their most complete songwriting and I love the vocals on it, though I see where you're coming from with them being different. I would place Summer of Darkness a bit higher than you maybe, but I've always thought the same thing as you in that it drags on too long. I don't think as highly of their debut self-titled as you do. Personally, I find it vastly inferior to all of their other albums, though it has some great songs! Also, I find Outlive to actually be an awesome album. I really love it and would probably consider it one of the albums in the upper half. I actually just received my copies of Peace and War in the mail yesterday. I listened to Peace and in the next couple hours when I have to drive I will be listening to War. I wasn't too surprised that Peace was filled with songs that are very much hard rock overall. Some of the songs were really solid, but my first impressions are that it is one of their weakest albums. I hope I find War to be more solid. I will do my best and try to rank the albums imo here (minus Peace and War). The tryptic is one of my favorite albums of all time
