Oregon resident here, glad you had a great time at the coast, makes me wish I was there now! Next time you’re over this way, you should check out Depot Bay, the worlds smallest harbor!
The giant tour bus stuck on the tiny street was totally worth a view, but this vacation had more tunnels and wildlife. I was entertained by both, so thanks for sharing.
Catching up on a few videos that I’d yet to watch. The Oregon coastline looks to be very interesting and beautiful. The Goonies is my all time favourite film and while I imagine Astoria has probably got some ‘tourist vibes’ (and I believe is a way further along the coast) it’s still on my bucket list of places I would love to visit. Brilliant video Gabe, these ones really do add to the variety your channel brings to everyone. Best wishes to you and the family from England 🏴🇺🇸
Thanks for showing off how cool the iregon coast is! As a native oregonian, the wife and I are out there at the coast around lincoln city and depoe bay at least once a month, year round. Theres always something to do or see on the coast!
You were out in my neck of the woods. 😊 I live inland in the Willamette Valley, but it is nice having the Pacific ocean less than a two hour drive away. Looks like you had a great time.
The Oregon coast is amazing. I particularly enjoyed the coast around Newport and north from there, up to Astoria - which isn't technically on the Pacific coast but the Columbia River just amazed me by its breadth. Also that drive over the Meglar bridge... would love to go back someday.
This brings back momories of Alaska except the color of the sand. Are those little black birds the same as further north? I remember cuddling the ones that flew into our ship at night. I forget what species the are.
You were in my neck of the woods! I hope you went to Fort George for a hazy IPA…..dang that’s crazy to me. It’s such a small town too. Small world, eh?
Fun fact: "Thor's Well" isn't really...like...a thing. It's just a hole in the rock like many others (you even showed some similar ones at the Yachats State Park). Apparently it only got popular because a photographer took a neat pic of it and named it that (just because it sounds cool, it's obviously not related to viking history or myth in any way) and it got popular on the touristy sites on the internet like 10-15 years ago. Then because so many tourists kept asking about it, they put up signs pointing it out. If people visit the area and have limited time, I would recommend skipping it. It only does the "thing" when the tides are just right, and it only looks somewhat neat from certain angles (and better in photos than irl in my opinion). There is a lot of way cooler stuff in that area, like the spouting horn (which you showed), Devil's Churn (giant crevice of horrifying ocean-churning death), and Cape Perpetua (the highest viewpoint accessible by car on the Oregon coast).
Gabe.....I wished I had known you were coming thru, we live in Tidewater, which is about 8 miles east from hyway 101 in Waldport...Next time you are planing to come thru let me know and I'll show you my K band dish that I sent you pctures on...
Looks like it would be just as treacherous for swimmers as it would be for boats. Also curious how many caves are under the water! Beautiful. Glad you had a good trip.
I don't know the names of most of these, they were just caves we found along the beach. The biggest one was Sea Lion Cave, that's a tourist attraction.
I want to say some of these were between Sea Lion Cave and the lighthouse, some were at... Bob Creek, I think? And the big sinkhole was called the Devil's Punchbowl in Otter Rock.
Quite lovely--thanks for sharing. My son and his GF just got back from Vancouver, and he's quite taken by the west coast. I hope he doesn't move there, 'cuz then I'll never see him :(
@@saveitforparts I lived in Vancouver for almost a year when I got married. It then BNR/Nortel asked if I’d like to come back and they offered me $25K more than when I left less than a year prior, and more than I was making in Vancouver. Sooooo moved back.
oh man, it's the 95 degrees in my house speaking, I'm sure, but I'd love to pump some of that cool cave air in my house! It may stink of sea lion farts, it'll be better than sweatlodge city! I've been thinking more and more about cheap AC solutions.
yeah for the longest time, I thought climate change was a bunch of malarkey, still think the underlying cause (us vs nature herself) is, but it's MUCH more hot than i remember in my childhood.@@saveitforparts
It should be noted that ocean/beach caves can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS if you don't know what you're doing. Other than the normal cave hazards, you have to be very aware of what the tides are doing. Tides can come in very rapidly, and if they come up while you are in the cave, you can get stuck and drown. Make sure you read the tide charts correctly, as they can be a little confusing to look at, and you have to adjust the time to your specific location (you can get free tide charts all over the place here).
🥳 If you were to wedge your body like a cork into one of those blowholes, would an incoming wave of a decent size be able to blow you out of the hole? .....Maybe next trip.🤔👍

We've driven past that, but it would be fun to stop and look at the harbor!
Whale-watching there is amazing, but you gotta be there kinda early in the morning, it's well worth it though.@@saveitforparts
And D River, the World's shortest river. _(because Roe is a drainage ditch surveyed for a school project, and Guinness wussed out..)_ 🤣🤣
Welcome to Oregon, glad you enjoyed your stay.
As a Goonie's fan, I hope you were able to stop in Astoria. Sure it's touristy but it's worth it for nostalgia.
I've been there before, we didn't make it on this trip but it is a cool area!
Hope you and Mrs. Parts are having a great holiday. 😉
Thanks for sharing a part of your trip with us - such a beautiful area and some Goonies memories to boot! Much appreciated.
You're in my backyard! Thanks for showing off the Oregon Coast. Make sure to check out the lava tubes next time you are in Oregon.
We saw some lava tubes in California, but missed the ones in Oregon on this trip!
You also can go to the Ape Caves just over the border into Washington. Those are pretty fun tubes!@@saveitforparts
@@saveitforparts Go into SW Washington and check out the Ape Cave. You're welcome.
Where?

The video already has documentary film quality, I really liked that, very relaxing.
Glad you enjoyed your trip to Oregon! Come back soon and let me give you some parts I've been saving!
I have been to some of the places you mentioned. Oregon is lovely. Just don't go very far east, the vibe of the locals changes dramatically.
All the virtue signaling and people playing the victim...
@@garbleduser I was talking about the rednecks that want to secede and become part of Idaho.
I think Idaho ended up with so many weird cults that they started overflowing :-P I try to gas up before that part so we don't have to stop!

Good video brother :) Looks like a really cool trip and adventure. You did a great job editing this one also!
Thats my kind of holiday activities! Beautiful places!
I really enjoy the variety in your content and this video was a cool surprise, thanks for sharing
What a beautiful place
Simply amazing

Goonies! Any idea why the timbers are in the sea cave around 1:20? Seal at 3:02 giving you the biggest side-eye!
I think it's just random driftwood that got washed in there. Lots of critters gave us lots of funny looks :-P
Such a beautiful area that would look amazing painted. Hopefully you explore these parts more in the future :D.
Thor's Well is always fun. Did you take the Tillamook ice cream/cheese tour?
Go vegan
We didn't get up to Tillamook, they do have some of the best ice cream though. We're starting to see it in the Midwest and I approve.
Their grocery store ice cream kinda sucks now, but the stuff at the factory is still good lol
Definitely a cool area to see. Thanks
Thanks. Enjoyed that.

I think the smallest black ones are Murres, and yes they seemed very cuddly!
Very refreshing video 🙂
Oh nice! We have some smaller caves here where I'm at on the East Coast, but nothing like this!
You were in my neck of the woods! I hope you went to Fort George for a hazy IPA…..dang that’s crazy to me. It’s such a small town too. Small world, eh?
We were a little farther down the coast this time, but I've been to Astoria in the past. Nice area :-)

Would you get in trouble if you started chucking pennies everywhere for luck? Great sites!
It depends if the secret tunnels connect to the old wishing well ;-)
Very cool
Kinda funny about the naming pattern. You can imagine the old mariners cursing at the various hazards and perils.
