Teasing out the roots definitely does help, I found that out accidentally. I was repotting a massive monstera & I accidentally dropped her!! Split the root ball in half & I was pretty sure that she would die as she looked as shocked as I was lol….ffwd 16 months & she has not only recovered but she’s gone bananas. Many new leaves, lots of new growth & she’s looking a million bucks. I don’t intend dropping her again when I repot her but it showed me that I didn’t have to treat her as delicately as I was previously….she will survive 💚……really enjoyed your video….thank you
Oh my god, Nick it's like you read my mind. I have a friend coming over tomorrow to help me repot this gigantic Monstera that I was gifted last summer. It is about 5 feet wide with all kinds of aerial roots coming out of the pot. It's about 15 years old and has never been repotted. The pot it's in is only half-full of soil. I got a bigger, and slightly deeper pot for it and have been wondering what is the best way to go about repotting it. And you post your video today!! What a coincidence! I now know how to repot the plant without causing any damage. Thank you!
Enjoyed watching the repotting today. I just did the same with my big ponytail palm this morning. The roots were coming out of it’s nursery pot so it was definitely time.
Hi when it comes to glazed pottery I do not mind the blues. If you are ever near a canyon nearing sunset you get those red to cream to orange and blue like tones reflecting off the rocks in nature so altogether its all lovely to the greens of your space. Oh also l got these acrylic poles from home depot and had them cut to stake the plant so they fade into the background.
I have been needing to do this for a while on my monstera I've had for a couple years now. Perfect timing!! Love your videos and all the info you share 💚
@@MrWelfarehater I bought mine 2 or 3 years ago as a small plant with about 4 small leaves. It was maybe 8 inches at that time. Now it's about 3.5 feet tall with 7 large split leaves and several small leaves. So I wouldn't say super slow growing but it doesn't produce an abundance of leaves per year.
@@angierose327 thanks for the information Angie. I guess the Monstera is a cool decoration plant. Really nice, but it takes years to outgrow a space. Personally think it would be better to spend the extra 20 buying it, rather than buying a small one and waiting for the Monstera to grow into a specimen plant. I have seen Monsteras that are 2 ft tall for 30 bucks.
I love Monstera plants however they don’t like me. Normally when I don’t have any success with certain plants I know when to quit, however I have just recently purchased another small plant and I am going to try again for the third time…lol.. Love all your helpful hints Nick. 👍🏼
I have a question please my monstera is 7 months old I got her with 4 leafs now I have around 90 and it keep growing so big I upgraded the pot 2 inches bigger but should I just get a huge pot and let it grow in it? I don’t want it to feel tight it provides me with new leafs every day I got her at ikea but I think she was a lucky one from Mexico because there’s no way it’s because of my city’s weather ( Montreal lol ) Thank you for your time and informative video ❤️
Great timing. I have 3 monstera and I'm thinking of potting the 2 smallest together. My biggest one has a deformed small and ugly leaf which was the last that grew over the winter. If I cut this off where will the new growth come from. I love your content and your humour Nick. Always always great to see new uploads from you in my notifications. Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge. Im certain I have many plants still living because of your Vidios.
@@IndonesiaDavis yes. I cut it off and repotted two plants together( smaller one and ugly leaf bigger one) days after my message. They are doing really well and putting out lovely largish new leaves and even the aerial roots are now growing too. So great result.
I know he’s mentioned it on past videos. Maybe look back at his apartment styling videos from last fall. I know he specifically mentioned where he got it when he was trying to decide where to hang it.
Hi, Nick...always enjoy watching you (and Muffin). When do you advise feeding a newly repotted plant? I have a Monstera that desperately needs repotting, but I'm waiting for spring. Wish me luck!
I just noticed my roots coming through the bottom of her nursery pot. I’m wondering if I should repot? I just gave her a nice shower though, I’ll have to wait. I keep finding spider webs. I don’t really think it’s spider mites just a regular one. I searched all over for bugs and her leaves look gorgeous. Three new leaves coming in.
I too have a monstera that needs repotting. Also will be placing an order using your link below. What are you placing under that large pot to catch the extra water?
Years ago I bought several baby monsteras and potted them together. Now they are huge and I need to separate them, otherwise there is no pot big enough for them. However, their roots form a tight rock-hard nest that is impossible to untangle. What to do? Should I just chop the rootball into pieces? It' s not very happy anymore, but I love it and would'nt want to kill it 😢
I have a 20ft ficus Benjamina growing in a planter without holes for drainage with lava rock on the bottom for over 5 years. Plus all of my plants are mostly in pots without drainage. My plants look great and I have over 400 plants… well over 400 plants. 😜 seriously, my monstera is so big I can’t even repot it anymore, and again, no drainage and I have that one for… oh I don’t even know… before it became the it plant, not it is not the it plant anymore. I think it is not about the drainage, it is about how much water you give it
I think the Delisiosa is best to let it do what it wants instead of staking it. Every one I’ve seen that’s been stakes for a while just looks unnatural.
I swear monstera roots grow at an absurd rate, no matter how big the pot you give them is they just seem to fill it out within a year and then dont really care very much if they're root bound.
Trudging that big-potted Monstera into the shower, watering it well and carting it back. It is too heavy and a dumb thing to do for your back. Water it where you intend to home the plant.
Ok I laughed when you were like "I'm gonna stake the plant now," and pulled out a literal toothpick 😂
Same here😂😂😂
Yea, I thought the same. All that work……
@@sherryporsch9349 I think the monstera will support the stake lol

Is the Monstera a real slow growing plant? I see nice ones for sale at Lowes and Home Depot.

Great vid post Nick. I have to do the same for my monstera. I think mine is a climber so it will go into that type of planter. Enjoy the weekend!

nick is the plant daddy of the people

Nick I have a question, why wouldn't you use a bigger stake for that plant? That skinny bamboo stick doesn't seem sturdy enough.
Hi there from Dundas, Ontario, Canada!!! Does your new pot have drainage holes?
Mine is so big, I was wondering if I could break it up a bit when I repot it. I got 2 more very large pots. Would it like that?
Are we tucking the long roots in the pot or can u trim back?

The best tips. Ty so much.
So its better not to put an knside plastic pot? I didn’t know it can be planted directly in a decorative pot
What do you use to prevent the soil from falling out of the drainage hole?
Hey Nick my Monstera has grown so muCh in less then a year ? Should I take IT out its nusery and report it
I love your videos! Thank you!!!
Great video 😍😍😍
Why does it have to be dry for repotting?
You did not explain the watering process?? How much? How often??
I like the pot color but if you don't you could easily dry brush it with white craft paint and change it up
Why is my monsters have its leaves folded down toward the stem ?

hello, coco choir is also better than peat because it is much more sustainable (and less acidic)
