    So you just took a trip and you found an awesome plant that you want to bring home with you. Maybe bringing home an entire plant isn't an option, but you can easily bring home a cutting! Then you can grow your plant memories for years to come!
    In this video I demonstrate how to take a cutting and then wrap it up so you can bring it home with you on a flight. This method is great for all sorts of tropical houseplants such as Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, and so much more. #houseplants #propagation #plants

    I did the same thing with a Thaumatopyllum (split leaved philodendron) from Disney World a couple of years ago. There was a small 12 inch sucker coming up and the hotel said they didn't care. It's now over 4 feet spread with leaves (not counting the petiole) about 15 -18 inches long. I call it Walt.

    Nicely done video, good info esp about asking permission! I’ve found they always say yes because you ask. I still have a now large bougainvillea cutting from when I was in Arizona 5 years ago at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Plants, books, minerals=heaven! 🌿 📚 💎

    Yes, I filled my carry on luggage and personal item (backpack) with about 30 cuttings and starter plants that I accumulated in Florida over a 2 week period. The plants were so cheap compared to where I live in Washington state, so I bought as many as I could fit in my luggage. TSA had no problem with my plants and they made the trip very well.

    Funny this showed up today. I’ve been doing this for years but it’s been at cemeteries. They usually have these huge mounds of Iris in Southern cemeteries. And Iris are my plant. I’ll just get two or three discrete rhizomes and wrap them in wet paper towels and then wet newspaper. In the trunk of the car and it’s off to home. I suppose I’m a plant thief and I get it from my mother. From a small kid my mother would do the same thing. In fact we have her on film pulling periwinkle from a motel in Miami. Funny that’s where you got yours. Ours came from the Suez Canal Motel in Miami. That was probably sixty years ago. I’m an old plant thief and proud of it!! Thanx for the film. You know your addicted though, right?

    Hi Namaste 🙏
    Thank you for this video. I was searching for how to take a cutting on a flight. And came across your video. You are a lovely soul.
    Thank you thank you. 🌸
    Though I have to travel intenationally taking my own plant cutting for my niece as she can’t find Hoya linnearis in the nursery of the country she lives in :)
    Just need to find out now only if it’s ok to travel with a cutting internationally it’s a 7 hr flight.
    Amazing work you doing.
    Best wishes ✨💐

      Hi! Thanks for watching :) make sure your cutting is totally clean of any dirt prior to the journey. You are technically not supposed to bring it internationally so just hide it well! As long as it is clean it will Do no harm by bringing it

    Brilliant & encouraging video. THANK YOU! Question from a total plant beginner: I want to fly with a couple of plants I have that have big root balls (a coleus and a pothos), as I've been growing them in water for several months. Can I do the same thing, just like wrap up the huge root ball in a wet paper towel, wrap that in plastic and carefully bring it in my carry-on?

    • @plantvibrations
      @plantvibrations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes absolutely! I’d recommend bring them in a tote bag or something and keep on your lap during the flight. As long as it’s domestic you should have no issues with them in security

    Do you have your light there on a timer or anything? I’ve never had much luck trying to grow plants from seeds. I think I don’t have much patience trying to do any type of hardening off stage or something.

    Hi Devin! Are you still around? I hope you see this.
    I have an international trip coming up, and I am planning to take a cutting of my pothos plant with me. I checked with the TSA website and it seems like plants are allowed in carry on bags, which is how I plan to transport my Lil plant.
    My question is, if i do pack the cutting as you demonstrate here, will it survive a 48hr travel? Is it worth it? Will there be any more precautions that i can take to ensure a safe transport? I would love to take it with me as much as possible.
    Please let me know. Thanks :)

    • @plantvibrations
      @plantvibrations  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes it’ll absolutely be fine for 48-96 hours. Just make sure the stem and roots (if rooted) remain moist by wrapping in wet paper towel followed by plastic wrap
