  • How To Package Houseplant Cuttings & Potted Plants for Shipping! | How I package Plant Mail! Shipping Plants in the Mail.
    Here I show you how I choose to package plants for shipment! There are so many methods used to package & ship plants, but this is the way I prefer to do it. I reuse shipping supplies from packages I get in the mail so I don't have to create extra waste! How do you prefer to package plants?

    Thanks a lot. I'm wanting to ship leafy plants to my family next year and I had no idea how to properly package them. This was a big help. You're the second person that has mentioned putting dowels in the pots so I'm going to gather that it works well preserving the plant.
    You're looking absolutely gorgeous Mama. Take it easy.

    • @HarliG
      @HarliG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It definitely helps keep the foliage safe from snapping! (: Thank you so much!

  • @braindeadbtch
    @braindeadbtch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Instead of using packing tape, try plastic cling wrap, this way, whatever medium you have your plant in, be it soil, mulch, rocks,or even a moss topper, these won't stick to the tape resulting in loss of whatever medium you're using. Of course, you'll have to tape it in place on the pot to keep it from sliding off, but the point of saving soil/rocks/etc is now guaranteed. Also, I would wrap the exposed foliage in the brown paper wrapping you're using to help protect against weather damage, stem breakage, & bruising during shipping. Similar to how flowers are wrapped in a way, you can even leave the top open so it doesn't suffocate, just so long as its protected. The sticks are an excellent idea as well, the brown paper would wrap perfectly around them! Hope that helps!!

  • @lilwigglesandleaves
    @lilwigglesandleaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    😟😧Ive received plants that were packed this way and the leaves were beaten up really badly., because there is nothing around them to protect them from damage. The seller also didn't use plastic products and most of the moisture in the pot was wicked into the surrounding paper products including the box. I personally would add polyfill around the leaves at the very least. I save and reuse all everything I get in the mail too. .I am happy to hear that these particular plants arrived in good shape.

    Another tip is make sure the place you are shipping to doesn't have any laws/regulations about how plants need to be packaged and declared on packages.
    Like for example shipping to Hawaii plants can not be shipped in soil and they need to be labeled as plants or agricultural goods. Plus a few other rules.
    Also probably a really good idea to check if you want to try to ship internationally.

    I can't speak for other countries and their mail system but living in Canada to save money you can use the medium slot boxes. There's a site that sells the boxes (slot box) and I split it with a friend because its in bulk and shipping costs can be expensive. Anyways it costs the same as letter mail and always mail out on Monday. It only works if your mailing out small cuttings but its quite handy.

    I use a digital kitchen scale when mailing stuff. You can get free USPS priority flat rate envelopes and boxes. Also free blank shipping labels.
    I print my own labels and then drop them in street boxes, if they fit. Otherwise, would have to hand them to the USPS guy when he comes round to deliver stuff or have to go to USPS.
    I’ve never mailed plants before but would like to do trades which is why I’m here.
    Your video was very helpful.
    Do you mail plants during the fall or winter or just put a hold on everything until spring and summer?

    I wish I would have watched this video last week!!!! I shipped my very first SIX potted plants. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
    PLEASE PRAY FOR ME THAT NOBODY ASKS FOR A REFUND. I DID MY VERY BEST!! THAT CHOPSTICK IDEA WAS BRILLIANT. I WISH I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT WHEN PACKING MY PLANTS. So sad right now.... One question, do you ever send the clay pots with the plant?? Cuz everybody always wants the clay pot and I feel like that's going to ruin the plant in the mail!??????????? Please show me how!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🦋🌿

    Thank you for this video Harli. Glad I got to watch your video of all the search results for mailing cuttings. You've answered some of my questions in mind as a total beginner thinking to sell cuttings for a side hustle. For printing labels at home, is there a specific machine that does it? Also the weigh affects the shipping cost, is it priority mail? As I read the charge is the same despite of the weigh if it's priority. :) I will for sure prefer getting in the counter as well than using kiosk knowing that everything is done correctly 😄 but thinking of dropping or having things picked too with the pandemic.

    i love this! i practically do the same. I often fixate the leaves by putting something around them like cardboard or make a 'tunnel' out of something... I wonder, how is the house ghost ? :D

    I like to roll each plant in stiff paper (old paper bag) to protect foliage. But I guess yours is packed pretty tight that you wouldn't need that

      I do sometimes wrap them if the contents aren't packed in there so tightly (:

    If you send something that's been rooting in water, why would the roots rot if wet?
