Me too! I've driven over 700,000 km's over the last 2 Nissans, I've only spent spent money on some tires, light bulb, (oil changes are free from Canadian Tire Points). I changed 2 wheel hubs (only paid for install) Wheel hubs were cheap. That's it. so around $1000 in repairs over the 2 vehicles. Still the make crap transmissions. I wont buy any EV Nissan.
I own a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and the issues with the 2005 to 2012 model years were a radiator fluid leak into the transmission due to a faulty transmission fluid line running through the radiator. It is a very expensive repair. However, once that problem is fixed by by-passing the transmission fluid hose away from the radiator it is one of the most reliable SUV's around and I am still using it 20 years later. When it dies for good I will switch to an electric SUV not made by Nissan.

It is so awesome that Nissan and Toyota have top secret magical solid state batteries better than anything in existence that will save the companies. I'm so happy for Nissan and Toyota.
Its the same problem with many japanese firms. Too much debt. ROI is very low and debt keeps piling up. Also their focus is mostly export market and chinese are taking their share with better vehicles. so the problem is too much debt, falling market share, relatively inferior products and they cannot close loss making factories like the west (They keep it going). GM and Chrysler nearly went bankrupt as well. GM twice, actually. And the U.S. taxpayers bailed them out. It's the same in Japan and every other country; the automotive industry employs millions of people, not just in the car factories but also rubber, glass, steel, aluminum, dealerships and repair... countries can't afford for such huge industries to go belly up so quickly. Yeah, eventually it'll probably be Tesla and BYD factories making most of the world's cars and trucks, but there will be a price paid.
i don't understand how they got huge debts. Here in Indonesia, the top 10 car sale in the past 5 years has been 4 Toyotas and 4 Daihatsu.. and 2 other brands. There must be same shady business goin on.
Nissan's problem is the Japanese could not tolerate being restructured, especially by a non Japanese. Carlos Ghosn was making progress restructuring Nissan+Renault, moving into EVs as a pioneer. Then Nissan ran off the rails on a crazy train.
Some of his "reforms" actually broke the company. Nissan is a _Japanese_ company, not a French one. It's too bad, too; they make great cars and trucks.
Not changing the charging port on the Leaf was one huge missed opportunity. Also not adding proper battery management over the years has shown that they don’t care about being a leader in EV’s when they were one of the first to even mass produce one.
The Nissan Sakura, a kei car, is the most popular EV in Japan. It's not like they don't care. They just haven't kept up with China in EV battery tech. Hopefully they'll start using CATL sleds or similar, then will at least offer an alternative to BYD and Tesla. Competition's a good thing.
I have to go plug in my LEAF. Thanks for the reminder. It's 11 years old. I bought it used 8yrs ago. Paid about twice of what I paid for my conventional road bike.
Same here, bought my Leaf almost 10 years ago as an off-lease special and its been trouble free except for an o-ring on an air conditioning line which was replaced at no charge despite the warranty having expired. Paid less than $10,000 for a no frills base model which still came with DC Charging, heated front plus rear seats, heated steering wheel and backup camera. Battery is still at about 75% and more than adequate as my daily driver. One of the most economical and reliable vehicles I've ever owned over the past 50 years. If they still made the 2014 Leaf today with a 65 kWh battery but without all those prone to failure gimmicks and fluff items that add cost but no real value I'd buy one. I want a basic transportation vehicle to get me from point a to point b and not a mobile living room with a deluxe entertainment center. Best!

Why do you expect Honda to go through bk? They sell quality high margin small motor products (lawn mowers, generators, motorcycles, atvs...) and have successful car sales. I would think Honda got some financial incentives from the Japanese govt to help with the purchase.
@briangasser973 All those gas motors will be electric within ten years: Electric motors have about 10% of the moving parts, are 3 times more energy efficient , don't pollute... I doubt Honda will survive the transition. When Japan's economy begins the big slide, I suspect Honda will be in the same bailout line as the rest of Japanese industry.
There are tons of Nissan Rogues around here; very popular crossover. I don't understand, however, why they didn't make a hybrid version for the US market. We got a used Nissan Leaf a few months ago, 2022 with 11K miles, for very very cheap and it gets 150-160 miles per charge (less with heat/AC). But yeah, probably they won't be selling quite so well in future years unless they upgrade the technology and fit EV drive trains to their vehicles.

I hope that Honda lets Nissan down. It will be a good lesson for all automakers. Not that they will heed it, since they can't. They have too much debt and requirements to have their suppliers still make ICE parts. They have all the responsibilities but no profits from EVs even if they started making them in earnest. There is no way they can profit with the Chinese taking losses on their massive EV industry. OEMs are screwed and there's no way out except tariffs and that only works until robocabs take away their business anyway. They are just F'd and can't do anything about it.
The honeymoon with Chinese electric vehicles can crash even faster, if they don't keep up quality control... The company I work for is right wing with a few like myself, center. The company bought two BYDs, after only five months one broke down 150km from work. After roadside assist it broke down again 50km away limping home. This story will be told on social media and social gatherings thousands of times, detracting potentially thousands of customers. I also am now less keen to be an early adopter of the Radara pick up truck...

Quality and change The name Datsun to Nissan
I hope that Honda lets Nissan down. It will be a good lesson for all automakers.
Not that they will heed it, since they can't. They have too much debt and requirements to have their suppliers still make ICE parts. They have all the responsibilities but no profits from EVs even if they started making them in earnest. There is no way they can profit with the Chinese taking losses on their massive EV industry. OEMs are screwed and there's no way out except tariffs and that only works until robocabs take away their business anyway. They are just F'd and can't do anything about it.
Typically nissan drivers are very selfish, out on the road, nissan, deserves it's owners.
What do you mean the company is Right Wing?? What, do you mean like Peter Dutton?...The Nuclear Skinhead? How can a company be Right Wing?
Yeah this story does not make sense….. what BYD vehicles etc
After seeing Moss Landing go up in flames, no one is going to be keen on EV's. Especially brands other than Tesla. Hydrogen fluoride gas anyone?
