:( actually marriage & romance is my favorite part in SOS series. The new producer don't understand the essential of SOS. Beside farming, it's also about building relationship with town folks.
Getting to know characters deep dark secrets is the whole point of building up those hearts dang it... Like hello why is Doctor Ford so popular? BC his life is a wreck behind those pristine white curtains!
It’s not even just romance too Like you said townsfolk relationships! I used to look forward to getting to know the people of the town It feels a lot less charming in this game, romance or not Plus marrying a character for the sake of marriage and a kid is boring Adding more spice to the characters makes it more immersive
moreover, all the NPC looks lifeless, with no expression, no dark secret that we learn as we deepen our relationship with them. It's just boring. The new producer doesn't understand that romance and building relationship to get to know them better in SOS is one of the main reason ppl wants to play the SOS series
He said ROMANCE IS NOT THE MAIN CONCEPT OF THE GAME?!?!?!!!! This is literally why I play SoS and harvest moon... If I just wanted a farm sim there's dozens to choose from
Yea actually that is the reason why i play this too, it feels like otome game with a lot of feature 🥴 if i want to play farm game then i will choose hay day, farm ville or etc
He’s said before that romance wasn’t supposed to be a big point and that he doesn’t really like that it ended up becoming as much of a dating sim as a farm sim. I’m not sure I believe him considering the original game forces you to get married, but this is an aspect of the series he definitely regrets. Personally I don’t usually get married, I just like building my farm and usually the marriage candidates just aren’t that interesting.
Yeah, it is the perk of the game that makes it stand out from other farming games. And honestly who cares if it wasn't initially intended, don't back track your success by trying to change how it's done when it's what helped make the game as big as it is in the first place. That isn't a very smart move unless they want company suicide. If it's not broke don't fix it. Improve it, not take backward steps. If they wanted a purely farming game, that's what spin off titles are for
So true. I remember villagers being sassy and fun and not just.. nice. Even the grumpy ones are not grumpy at all. I don't talk to anyone anymore in AC.
I'm in my first autumn now and it's honestly getting boring already talking to characters, they say the same things every day. And the repetitive holiday/event dialogues... Don't get me started.
@@eromir247 I was hoping they would add those later. im really saddened by this like everyone else to say the least. How did they miss the biggest part of what makes an animal crossing game :(
@@DarkQuilava13 Hashimoto, the original creator of both series and the genius behind the quality dialogue of previous games, didn't even work on this game in order to completely focus on RF5. So that guarantees that RF5 will be better.
@@purelysmetalnightcore i dont like rune factory and this is the worst news ive heard in a while. they just have not been putting much resources into the last SoS games. it really is so disappointing that both stardew AND people modding the older games to have gay marriage have been doing a better job with Harvest Moon than Marvelous...
Rune Factory isn't completely focused on romance either, but at LEAST the dialog changes depending on your relation with that person. And that detail means a lot to me, it makes me feel loved and cared by townsfolk and the one you're dating OR married. So, SoS has no excuse to damp it that much, if that's the right word I'm looking for. Edit; o m g I've never had this many likes on a comment; o;
Even most of the cut scenes are so bland that you aren't even sure if you're dating or not. You think they would at least try there, since they cut everything else. Some of the random charas have better cut scenes then the marriage candidates!
I have to say I've never been that impressed with relationship building in HM/SOS, and it felt even more lacking once I sank my teeth into my first RF game, but uhh, ,yeah, the fact that this game has even less conditional dialogue variation is like... you guys went in the wrong direction In RF4, I feel like I want to and have to speak to every person daily, because they literally never run out of interesting new things to say every day, even after like 3.3 years of progression.
@@youtubedeletedmyaccountlma2263 if they wanted to constraint on the farming then they shouldn't have added the romance option game companies are getting lazy they believe that players will just let it slide
I was really looking forward to this game... but I'm one of those weirdos who likes talking to the villagers and getting married the most. Farming is fun but its more of a secondary thing for me... so I'll pass on this game unless they update it to make the dialogue of the villagers better. Also, I feel like the game seems unfinished based on what many have said.
eh, in therms of Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon you're not really an odd one out in that. Heck in Back to Nature I would more often than not start a new save trying a new wife every time, never got past year 3, heck not even year 3 end I think. In Friends of Mineral Town remake I've kept going longer since there was some more stuff to get (like cursed tools and the town house). That the game feels unfinished is definitely true. It's the current trend of launching faster and then finishing on updates and DLCs. Which, they are doing indeed.
I like both aspects The dating sim aspect alone would be too weird to me I like that it’s farming sim W/dating sim together lol It was a nice balance for me But this game feels meh, I only played trial and I barely unlocked anything but the UI is weird and the gameplay feels kinda weird too idek
How they gonna make a game about farming, then get rid of the main festival for farming..? Edit: they're gonna need to make MAJOR a dialogue overhaul. Edit 2: you... Don't even look for the eggs yourself in the egg event? Does this game just? Play itself for you?
@@ashiel035 OMG I feel the same. ToT is way better in so many ways. One of the minor things that makes me go crazy is that everyone eats the same meal everyday. In ToT the meals would change daily and they are usually from foods native of the person town.
Romance customization and character interaction were the biggest reasons why I was excited about this game ~ so thank you so much for this review. That feeling of loneliness is my most hated thing in games. What a bummer!
In all fairness, Rune Factory was the game based on this most of the time. But even compared to very old HM games, the dialogue as well as friendship/romance is very lackluster.
@@lah3327 you can get married, but all the marriage candidates are so dry :( But at least you can finally gay in the franchise. We’ve been waiting for SOOO LONG.
It's probably because I'm use to Stardew Valley, but I don't mind the automation of like the caring of your animals. The romance and lack of jealousy events is so upsetting though
yeah i wish there was better romance. I haven’t gotten that far to see any events but honestly the everyday dialogue just to get to know them is so stale. But then again, in the Mineral Town game that came out before this.. there was lot of repeated dialogue. But the heart events were so memorable.
Old harvest moon has that. Sprites helpers who help you around the farm. Water crops harvest for you, fish for you, and take care of your animals. All done automatically
It immediately felt small. Honestly, I wish they would port Trio if Towns to the Switch because I enjoy playing that system more and add same sex marriage and I would be happy as a clam.
Trio of towns to me was confusing and maybe I haven’t gotten far enough into it but I can’t make it past summer without losing interest. Could someone give me tips to enjoy it more??
@@MushroomReaper There just seems like there is so much to do and I’m a concrete schedule kind of person but there’s too much to do in any one day. I eventually just get so busy trying to get everything done that I put the game down and forget to pick it up since it seems like more hassle than fun at that point.
the day games didnt rely on updates, the only way to fix bugs was if you gone to a shop switch your cartdridge for a new one or BUY a updated cartdridge making you waste money TWICE. Trust me, online updates are a huge upgrade over the old era of 16-bit consoles
@@akiradkcn True in some respects, but developers do rely on it very heavily. Even back in the 3DS Era devs didn't rely on it as much, look at how much content Animal Crossing New Leaf had at-launch vs Animal Crossing New Horizons after its final big-update... Yeah, less content but they also could have delayed the game and added all that content into the game before releasing it, same here but game seems worse. Happens very often I agree with you that it is a positive thing to be able to update games like this though
I think the major difference with the game is that the Director saw that people that love Story of Seasons also loved Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, so he focused on a variety of life-improvements and mechanics from those games to implement on Story of Season, which honestly it's a wonderful advance! The problem however is that he failed to capture the charm and appeal of those games and previous entries of the SoS franchise. The characters are adorable! From what I saw I'm already very attached to Olive Town, and I'm glad more dialogue is being worked on for updates, but both lack of portrait, model expressivity and the lack of zoom when you interact with them cause the game to suffer in the socializing aspect.
Unfortunately poorly implemented and the UI and whatnot is definitely not streamlined In the 3DS games I’m pretty sure there was an “edit mode” it made organizing your farm much easier and didn’t waste your in game day away, they didn’t even include that There’s also no quick tool menu or auto sort button (and for some reason no house storage aside from fridge?) Animal care also got dumbed down and is a lot less immersive Your pets could herd animals before, that was so cool! I think they could do other tasks too in some games? Unless I’m confusing it with something else And the horse is soulless it doesn’t even have hearts anymore 😔 (Also in tott it was cool that we had the mobile storage carriage) You used to be able to jump over small fences and whatnot too Also the player feels so slow, I did a test run on 3ds and they’re way faster (mounts too) It’s not like everything is awful but still, it was kinda poorly executed and rushed
@@RikaRieGaming I really hope so A new beginning was kinda similar Very new stuff with the whole customization spiel The town and graphics were kinda dull as a result probably partially because you’d “decorate it” later but they got better in later titles, especially trio of towns Also in anb the town revitalization was weird I remember struggling to get the good points/ranks to progress and didn’t know how to get consistent good ones, it killed some immersion for me as a result because there’s stuff tied to that that would be locked unless you progress
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that thought the player chara had a larger head.I put it in the ponytail, and I was like "wow, why is my head so huge compared to everyone else." Another thing that I didn't like, was how at the beginning things just kinda happened without you doing anything. Walk into a house "Hey I never met you,but let me give you this stuff, teach you things and talk to you. Then afterwards I will ask you who you are". I also miss the portraits around the dialog. That was a huge plus for me in ToT. Also the gift system is really weird. You can give them almost anything, and they will still be happy. Their dialog is "happy" no matter what. And everything you mentioned about starting to date/marriage,now doesn't even make me care enough to quickly pursue anyone :(
Wait I've been picking gifts thoughtfully.... are you saying it doesnt even matter? Thats lame lol I havent gotten that far yet but I've been kinda getting that lacking feeling. I just didn't want to believe it. Well let's hope the new RF5 is better.
@@ashleighdoebber371 They def all have gifts they prefer. They just also don't really tell you if they dislike anything. But if you go into the chara notes it will write down if they like something (food, certain types, etc). So if you do find the best choice,it at least notes it at some point. You can also tell sometimes by their dialog. I'm more so used to them telling me they don't like something, rather then them liking everything. And some charas replies are so bland/basic for ALL gifts, that it's lazy
What always bothers me about story of seasons is coming back from playing rune factory games where you get so much variety of dialogue and events that you feel like the characters never really say the same thing more than once and then wondering how it's a spin off of a game that is still giving you one line of dialogue per heart level witb a marriage candidate. The whole essence of the games should be feeling like you're helping and bettering a community, otherwise we could just play a tycoon game.
Omg yes. It feels like Rune Factory has become the "main" series instead. Even looking at screenshots there's SO much more attention to detail in rf5 and it's not even out yet AND I still have my complaints about the visuals in rf5. Like... There was definitely a bit of an upgrade from ToT to PoOT but overall it still looks like a 3DS game. Tbh, I wouldn't even be surprised if RF takes over as the series they put more time and effort into. It already feels that way and, overall, it seems to be more well liked by players.
Thats exactly why I always loved rune Factory much more than Harvest Moon or Story of Seasons. I just love the characters and the dialoges. Each character just feels so alive.
In this one there is definitely a lack of implementation, when we look at rune factory... especially the new one coming out. Even so i have to say I'm even worried about the new rf5 because it looks like it's just the same as rf4, just with new characters, new story and 3d...i am hoping for some extra function and an amazing gameplay, but seriously..rf4 was so much better and still is to me after 100+ hours
Good news is story of seasons has always been a placeholder for me, so I’m not super disappointed. I play it to get me to 5 and that’s about it. Always loved RF. 4 is my fav game. Leon forever
I remember marrying Celia in my first harvest moon game thinkin shed help on the farm being a naiive kid. I was so mad she did nothing and wished I married someone else LOL
@@ellebarron7112 Aww come on Celia is adorable, it was a good choice! In other hand too, if it was Celia in A Wonderful Life, your son is the most likely to take over the farm anyway.
Yes! Either this or, those part time jobs ppl could hire you to do in Trio of Towns? Why can't you hire other ppl to jobs on your farm once yer rich enough too? It's more believable than having magic pixies to do work on yer farm... XD
I saw the reviews and was incredibly nervous, but of the few hours I have played so far I am enjoying it. I'm sure once I delve more into the romance part of the game that will feel disappointing based on what you said, but the gameplay itself is really fun so far! I hope the updates will really improve what the game is lacking!
I’m so happy to hear that! 😁 I enjoyed the first 20 or so hours of gameplay as well, and it didn’t start to sink in until I realized how disappointing the marriage candidate dialogues were... but hey, we’re getting new characters with the DLC next month & that may just be our ray of hope! 🙏
I agree with everything you said! I'm surprised you didn't mention maker machines though. That seemed to be a huge complaint with the Japanese fans. I just hope the development team learns from these mistakes and creates a better game next time around. It feels like the Bokumono series is declining and it's sad... I just want another game like trio of towns or animal parade.
Declining? After one game? Nah, to me they will take these mistakes and make a better game next time; remember new producer so maybe next time he will have help from the old one about how to make a Bokumono game.
Yeah, I'm only about 6 hours into the game, myself. Picked it up after work today, and I already see what you're talking about with the "soulless" townspeople. Lack of character portraits, stiff dialogue, and NPCs that literally just...stand in their rooms for hours on end REALLY makes me hyper-aware that I'm playing a video game. More character events is nice and all, but there isn't much life beyond that...kind of a bummer. Trio of Towns was a magnificent game.
Thanks for explaining the hate behind the reviews! This was so much better than using Google Translator, most of the time the translator would have incomprehensible sentences!
Yeah I play the game for the farming and romance aspect. He made me unhappy with both and I regret even buying the game. It’s making me question whether or not to buy the next game title from the. I even told my sister and cousin who’s a huge fan of this game that it isn’t even worth it.
Wow they said romance isnt the priority? What game are they making because that woulnt be Harvest moon/Story of seasons. They dont know why are the people playing the title dont they
@@SairinEarthsea Twelve, and honetsly, i wanted to marry the ones that werent avaluable. Also, the game is supposidly farming based, but does alot to make it go past as fast as possible....
That’s not even all I loved interacting with the townsfolk before romance or not and it feels so meh here In other games other some of characters had their own farms too and the worlds just felt bigger overall
Like... Why did they even ask my birthday when nothing special happens on it? Was it too early in the game or something?? None of the NPCs even told me happy birthday...
Same, I felt so sad. My bday is early spring so it's not like I expected anything year 1 because that never happens, but no one wished me a happy birthday. It made me really sad.
My sister always places her birthday in the fall, whereas I put mine in the spring. No one acknowledged mine either, but my sister said everyone she had at least two hearts with wished her a happy birthday! Would be nice to get _something_ regardless of heart level, from the mayor maybe, but I’m content enough knowing how it works now.
Oh bleh this makes me sad. They should really update the dialouge. I've been a fan since the DS days and have played every entry since then and have done back to play the older games as well. Romance to me is just as important as the farming, well almost as important.
The creators of the games just announced too long ago, they would fix the dialogue and the makers of the game. So, there is no point to be mad about the game.
gosh, romance is one of the *biggest* goal in games like this. As it always been for real life too. I'm glad they're patching it for 1.0.5 update later, but I wish it was there from the beginning.
It’s really sad that A New Beginning still runs circles around this game. I really had hope for this to be like that one, but enhanced. I never thought a lack of character portraits would bother me so much, but it does...bad. A little sad this is the 25th and I feel that way, but it does still have a lot I like at least.
Its really disappointing to hear about this, especially since I loved the last couple of games that came out, definitely feels more like a step back from ToT and the previous title. Hearing about changes to the social system including festivals is the biggest thing for me, which is one of the aspects I love most and what I think gives the franchise a bit of an edge with the often (and annoyingly) compared Stardew Valley. Really hoping the updates turn it around.
They cloned Stardew pretty much. Hell right down to the dumbass fishing minigame that turned me OFF from stardew. Sorry to say but Harvest Moon One World seems to be better than this game.
@@vermontvampyre Sure feels like it. Why're they cloning a franchise that cloned them first is beyond me. Just because it makes millions of sales? I had hoped Marvelous won't get greedy like Natsume, but alas :'D
Right? I can't continue playing Stardew in the first place due to the lack of character interraction. It feels lonely and frustrating. Previous HM and SoS are like safe havens :'D At least Stardew isn't as bad as PoOT tho. It does have character events until you're done doing those and then character interraction just stops, lol. I sure hope SoS would wake up from this in the future. It'll affect sales and all ;w;
my issue is that one of the bacholours is lit just a blue version of neil...and theyre also bringing back neil. so now they have 2 blonde punk grumpy tusenderes that are secretly sweet guys
Story of Seasons was always about building relationships as well. I mean the point of the farming is not only that you can buy new stuff but also that you can give towns people your products so you form bonds. Like the og harvest moon also had as a goal that you would be married at the end of the 2 year. Doesn't make sense that they don't advance it. And yes ppl love animal crossing and stardew valley but we also love the way the games have their own identity and i feel like sos is on its way of leaving its identity behind a bit, bc they are struggling to keep the soul of the game in some way?
When I first saw the news about DLCs and content being released months after the game's release, my heart dropped and I knew something was up. Whenever that stuff is announced, I feel like there's a 99% chance the game will be released basically unfinished - and it's just released sooner to make more money. I know they acknowledged several problems over the past weeks, and let people know they'll be working on updates. It's why I have decided to wait at least a year or so until I get the game myself - just so I have the full content and maybe more finished experience. I'm so tired of games being released incomplete to milk player's wallets, I really didn't expect one of my favorite game series to ever turn into "one of those".
Exactly, this is what I said to other people in a farm sim group and they got angry. A game shouldn't have to updated repeatedly after purchase just to be playable, let alone expensive dlc being announced before the update date.
@@SairinEarthsea I was so optimistc it wouldnt end this way, but my god, the game is so short, like i thought Animal Parade was short but holy crap.... I 100% agree with you, this stuff should have been in the game...
I remember hearing about their being dlc for this game and just sighing in disappointment. I’m not against having dlc in this game I think the trio of towns dlc was perfect. The game itself was a full complete experience and the dlc was just extra content for those who wanted it but this game... it’s so bland and really does feel incomplete and it really feels like they were holding things back so we would give them more money. Not only that the fact that they announced this before the game even released made me feel worse too. Hopefully they do better for the next title or RF5.
Yeah I know patches and DLC are useful to fix problems but developers over rely on them to the point where they think they can get away with releasing obviously incomplete games.
They need to make some kind of law that a game has to be a certain amount complete and if they have to update it too much after charging people for it, they should get fined...
The fact that they've already patched issues and are talking about directly changing what players didnt like gives me a lot of hope. I think the director nailed the gameplay loop just didnt put enough time into most everything else.
@@chlorhex6785 While I do think the game is overpriced a little with the dlc, I don't think the game is actually bad. It has some flaws and might not be the most expansive and interesting in the series, or even as a game in general, but I've really enjoyed my time with it. the dialogue with villagers didn't really seem bad to me, it is a little repetitive maybe but only when its around festival time. I think the marriage dialogue is definitely an issue, but one that can be patched. The actual core of the game: the farming, is very solid to me. The lack of festivals kind of makes it not as good since you can't utilize the mutations that grow, but over all I think the farming cycle is very good. Maybe not the best in the series, but definitely one of the best more recent story of seasons/harvest moon games. While I do think maybe there isn't as many upgrades and content to progress, I don't think its a super terrible thing. Would I want more, sure. But the actual farming to me at least, is some of my favorite ive played of any recent farming sim in a while. The farming aspect of the game I'd easily give an 8, maybe a 9 as i haven't played it as much recently so I havent gotten as far as I'd like. But overall the game is still solid enough. Trio of towns was on the same level as good to me even if for completely different reasons.
@@ellebarron7112 really? I think stuff like sprinkler systems is cool but the farming aspect doesn’t seem that great from what I have played in game trial I got to year 1 autumn Animal care is dumbed down The animals go inside themselves but in other games you could get your pets to heard them automatically and save you the trouble of doing it yourself It was cool that the pets had tasks and help they could perform The UI and stuff is also very clunky in some aspects There’s no auto sort which irks me because it’s annoying to see the empty slots and out of order inventory and you can only manually and tediously drag and drop The tools should just have their own quick menu like other games have done Customization is cool but poorly implemented, pretty sure the 3DS games had a “edit mode” it let you move stuff around and whatnot more easily without wasting your entire day (in game) and placing and moving stuff in PoOT is a hassle, if we had edit mode it would be way better Idk what it is but something about the UI and gameplay in general feels weird definitely part of it is the sorting and no quick tool menu It just feels backwards and not streamlined if that makes sense QoL improvements could already make a huge difference, they may have addressed some but it’s not enough
I really hope this game was just an exception and they'll orient themselves for future games more at older games. (I wouldn't even mind a HM Tott remake 😗)
To tell you the truth I am kinda over this chibi style. I kinda wish they do something like Wonderful Life or Animal Parade. It kinda weird see a whole bunch of animals come out of a small barn.😂 but yeah I really hope for the next game they change the art style.
Thanks for bringing up A New Beginning, as far as customization/crafting goes nothing really beats it yet. Full interior decoration, all makers go into a specific building, paths and decoration integrate naturally with each other, and I think you can also move barns/coop without dropping all the animals inside. I really don’t understand why they can’t just look at that success and bring the features in the new game.
Yes that game has “edit mode” I have no idea how they can be all gung ho about “customization” when the execution is poorly done I mean if they at least did an edit/creator mode it would make it so much easier Trying to revamp your farm is such a pain in this game There was a SoS game that even let you move fields I think??
We really came a long way from the original Friends of Mineral Town where you were rewarded by finding out every characters interesting backstory when you build up their relationship to...this
I was loving the game up until I noticed the lack of events. When I thought I’d look up reviews and see if you unlock more later. Nope. And I totally thought there would be more extensive customization unlocked in the game like previous games. I think the problem with this new director is that he remade the friends of mineral town. Which is an old simplified game. Newer games are much less simple, and they have grown since then. And i feel this guy has never even played the newer ones. Or even bothered to look what it usually consists of. I think if he would have played the last 3ds version, or the wii versions, he would have gotten better idea of what we like and get inspire off of THOSE, and build off those, than his only inspiration of an old classic that is super simplified. If he’s inexperienced in story of season/harvest moon games, he should have took his to fucking research previous games. Watch some let’s plays, read into the detail of past games, or play them himself. Would have saved him a lot of time and made a better game.
I know right! Some game developers (especially this one) don't even take the time to research the game or take fans advice for what to add to the game. It's rlly disappointing😔
I honestly don't understand how they managed to downgrade so much from trio of towns. Imo, ToT is exactly what SoS is all about and is pretty much the definitive version of a SoS game, even if it's rather slow to get into and has a LOT of information/stuff to do. Olive town seems like it's trying too hard to ride on the coattails of other popular casual games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, and even though a lot of the automatization of the farming was a welcome change for me, getting rid of other core elements of the franchise is just sad. ToT had exactly what anyone could want in a casual farming game: - lots of customization, both in decor, farm and attires - great characters and sooo many events that you could probably play the game for hundreds of hours and still experience new dialogue - in-depth farming systems (crop stats, animal stats) - great alternatives to farming (fishing, fish farms, mushrooms, bees, etc. etc.) These key features have always been what made SoS stand out to me in a great sea of farming sims with dating elements. Stardew Valley was a "return to roots" with a simpler gameplay and it being easy to get into, but I don't think it would do SoS any service to try and replicate a game that was just a replica of their own franchise to begin with. Olive town removed all the features we love and adore about SoS and turned it into a super basic farming sim and it's honestly sad. That being said, please port Trio of Towns to Switch I'll actually sink in another 60+ hours into it lol
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!! Why are they trying to copy other games?? I appreciate the additions but it doesn't mean they should remove the core elements that players have always loved. Pretty stupid decision if you ask me.
After playing it for a couple days I am 90% disappointed in this game. It feels like not just a step back, but three. Like.....this game feels like it came out 5 years ago by an indie company. Its so damn shallow it makes me want to explode. I am officially worried about rf
The thing with Animal Crossing is that those events seemed like planned timed additions, while this Story of Seasons situation seems more unprepared and based out of bad publicity. A lot of this seems like cutting corners as much as possible to save money and hoping the player-base doesn't notice or care. The increased speed of everything can also be described as cutting corners and taking out the important little details that can make these games feel "comfortable" and homey.
So far I'm really enjoying the gameplay, despite a couple minor issues that developers said they would fix. The character dialogue is a big one for me. I'm glad farm work is more streamlined and the days are nice and long which leaves lots of time for interacting with characters... but then I go talk to characters and don't get much out of them. I hope they will fix that asap. And why on Earth did they remove the farm related festivals? Such a strange choice lol! Edit: now that I've started seeing character events I'm really enjoying those. I just wish their everyday dialogue had less "hi" and more stuff specific to them or what they're doing at them moment
Hopefully updates/dlc can fix some of these issues. I look forward to giving it a try, but I hope I don't lose interest before the fixes/dlc drops. On a side note, what would your dream harvest moon/story of seasons game be like? Would be interesting to see a video about that.
Yeah I’m in the same boat as you 😔 but at the moment I’ve been unlocking events with the townspeople, and oddly enough I find them more interesting than the events with the actual marriage candidates 😅 so that’s keeping me entertained. & I think you just gave me my next inspiration! 🤩 that’s a great question!
I won't lie, that's one of my biggest concerns as well so I'm just gonna hold off for now or maybe play it very lightly until all the dlc and fixes/updates are available. I'd like to experience the game at its best instead of struggling through it at its worst.
I've played it for a bit and so far I do find the townsfolk a bit boring. The farming aspect and clearing the land has been keeping me occupied, but feel a bit odd ignoring the townsfolk as much as I have though.
What I hate about this game: - Crafting system (not efficient, wasting too much time) - Instant baby (without pregnancy) - Manual house design (very annoying that u need to craft many lumbers and ingots, and pay much for a carpenter just for a little change to ur house) - No TV
I just got it, but as a seasoned veteran, I kind of like that they simplified the systems. Call me OCD but I end becoming a workaholic with a repetive schedule because of time management. I usually only make friends with my potential mate LOL
I totally agree with you, I’ve been playing for a couple of days now. I’m obsessed, I do agree that I wish we had more dialogue but I’m not planning on marrying anyone yet because I can’t even decide lol. But I don’t mind the simple system, in the old games most of my day would go to literally the simple things I had to get done in my farm because if I didn’t do them either the animals would get upset or my plants won’t grow. That gets repetitive and annoying and then I’d only ever make time for the person I wanted to marry or the characters I actually like. Now I’m talking to everyone and romancing a couple of them, I like the “Stardew valley” aspect of being able to make stuff to help me or decorate. Maybe I’m not flying by the game like everyone else (which is impossible because I’m honestly playing it all day lol) but I’m slowly getting through my own milestones.
Things that ruin this game for me : the makers no portraits anymore DLC.... the makers no changes in dialogue festivals are bland the time keeps running in houses and the mines Did I mention the makers? animals like me too fast i dont need tools for tendering the animals anymore no real "harvest goddess" the goddamn makers puddles I have to drain gratification too fast and too often mobile gamish up-lvling while doing things with titles and rewards framedrops because of the .....*whispers* makers If I build on the islands I lose natural ressources. No places to explore, only town and the giant farm. (Expected a wildlife area matching the pioneer theme) cutscenes seem to be stiff and empty, I mean I enter Marcos house the first time and without talking the wife throws a fishing rod to my face the mystery child's cutscenes were also pretty rushed and stiff.... the design of the harvest gnomes? They look like awful designed pokemon and not natural :
Your title is the exact opposite of what I've been seeing (now HM One World on the other hand....THAT is the game getting so much hate). It seems everyone I've watched (and in the comment sections) has been praising it to the heavens! I said the exact same thing you said about they were regressing instead of progressing (I compared some aspects to HM ANB) ESPECIALLY in terms of customization (I'm a cus-fanatic myself) and I damn near got cursed out by some people, saying, "that was that games concept, this is a new game...blah, blah, blah". I mean that's one of the appeals of life/farming sims, is the customization. I currently have both games and I don't get the hype about this one. Edit: I TOTALLY agree with your title now...lol. I read A LOT of Japanese reviews and 9 times out of 10, they hate the game. Funnily enough, every issue they state is justified and I totally agree with them. It's the English-speaking players that seem to really like the game. IMHO, I feel that the Japanese players seem to have more insight into the game and the series as a whole compared to English-speaking players (can't speak for others).
Honestly I think the reason why the English audience is a bit more positive about the game is there’s a lot of new comers to the series from games like stardew or animal crossing so they don’t have that experience from the older titles like we do. SOS has always been way bigger in Japan so you’ll hear a lot more vocal opinions about the game from Japanese audiences then the English ones.
It felt very souless to me and it is good news to hear that he might be adding or fixing things. I am kind of disappointed at the lack of Eye tracking in the main character. It is not too hard and honestly if it meant limiting the variety of eyes for this, I would be more happy with this but the other villagers do have eye tracking in cut scene and look like they aren't doing a 100 mile stare. With addition to the non 2d portraits. Most of the time when you are talking to people, you don't even really see their face or expression (Which seems increadibly lazy) Story of Seasons much like the previous iterations of the series might not focus necessarily on romance but it did tend to allow more of a (You are integrating with a community of characters). However, as you said their dialogue doesn't really change. I am mashing the A button when I do my daily routines of talking to people. caring very little of what they are saying and knowing whenever a holiday is being announced you just hear EVERY townsperson go "I am so excited for insert holiday here. Beep bop boop" It did feel very animal cross-y though. An option to show a grid constantly would be helpful as I ended up using my tools on the same spot of land I was on numerous times. Some things that I think were just ridiculous time wasters had to be the god damn bucket and the large bodies of water. It ticks off your stamina ever so slightly and that bar looks like a loading bar from the times of Dial Up internet. When I saw the first event (The egg event) I was like, Oh we are going to have a contest to search for eggs but then it was just a cutscene that didn't even really do anything. If anything, it just really makes me want to just go back to Trio of Towns. I had a lot of fun with that game even if it made no sense that a tropical town was next to a eastern town which was next to cowboy Curtis village. I do hope rune factory 5 will be better but was there no quality check at all for this game? I run far more advanced games on the switch but there is VERY noticeable frame drops as well as lag in this game. I have gotten stuck on a loading screen a few times and had to reset. I have gotten stuck into things and had to reset as well. If Monster hunter, which has many more graphics on the screen can run better, I question how Story of Seasons struggled so much.
I'm 15 hrs into this game and I love this game. Have said that I do have some thoughts. The slow pace of the machine and how slow they produce lumber, ingots ect.. you need to have 10+ of the same machine to speed up the process. I also agree with the dialog
I am really glad you added that statement at the end of your video. As everyone there are aspects of the game I am disappointed in. But as a loyal fan of the series, I’ll show my support, hoping for more updates, and better games in the future. Or even remasters/ports of older Sos games that i grew up with. We definitely shouldn’t give up on the series we all fell in love with. Voice our concerns/opinions but stay positive, and support the franchise.
I don’t think it’s bad. The character customization is amazing and I love how the bachelors and bachelorettes seem different. I just wish there was more festivals and their photo on the chat.
It's my first time in your channel, love how you review it and how thoughtful you are with your words. Explained exactly what I wanted to know! However I must say I don't agree with the "let's enjoy it for what it is and not drop out of the race", simply because money speaks. And if people keep buying it and playing it, chances are the numbers will be seen as "ok so this works, let's keep doing this". It's not bad to be critical of what you like :) if they improve it and/or make a better game in the future, people will come back, no one should feel obligated to enjoy it only because it's from something that used to be good and we have found memories of. That being said, I'm definitely not playing it, seems they really did butcher the game :/
I never thought about it this way! Very interesting, and maybe you’re right, if we stay silent and complacent, the series may never change for the better... I guess it’s just worrisome because the series has never been a big-seller like Nintendo’s, so I’m a bit suspicious if these changes are the producer’s attempt to target a new audience (kids) as opposed to the original fans who helped the series continue on throughout the years. But from what I’ve seen, a LOT of Japanese players returned their copy, and I’m sure the series is going to hurt financially for that 😳 let’s just hope the company can pull through.
@@Potatofuji some stuff feels really dumbed down based on my experience in the recent game trial I wasn’t even playing seedling mode Lol I think they should just make a kiddie mode for people that prefer it simplified but let other people choose other modes for a more “classic” experience You know, like you need to do more labour and if you don’t have a herding pet then it’s your responsibility to make sure you put your animals away Automatic systems like sprinklers are fine because that makes sense and it’s not like you have it instantly either, that I don’t mind Same with auto feeders and whatnot But animal care feels so dumbed down, I can understand that some might find it to be annoying or a hassle but just one button for everything without tools feels so pointless and your horse is no longer something you can forge a bond with, it feels soulless…literally just a mode of transportation can’t even feed, pet or brush the poor thing You used to be able to pickup your small animals it was so cute Villagers could even have favorite animals and you could show them and get their reaction The animals barely do anything besides produce byproducts I loved interacting with them but it’s pretty lack lustre when all you can do is pet them and press the same buttons for everything else without tools(in the 3DS games they had treats for livestock too) I mean sure there’ll be less to do with livestock but some games beforehand had a nice pet system
I don’t know why they don’t just listen to their fans... Most of the community is on a similar page with their opinions on the series. Everyone loves 64, AWL, FOMT and the Wii ones. People hate the art style if the new games. Scrap it, and go back to the old rustic look of the older games. Everyone loves the social system of 64, take a look at it and mold a system similar to that one. Learn from Stardew Valley as well, you have a modern day example of what people are looking for made by ONE GUY. By the way the museum is basically directly ripped off from that game. Go back and look at fan favorite characters and realize why people loved them. People enjoy dynamic characters and settings. Bring back aging, aging children, add an actual story like the Wii games. COME ON PEOPLE! You could conduct random interviews with people who identify as “long term fans” and I’m sure you’d see many of these opinions coming up with each person
This. Is. So. True. Like, I wonder if their team runs any preliminary research on TH-cam reviews and stuff before they head into the production room... I know the old producer did, and he would even go out of his way to address the suggestions from the fans and say how he planned to incorporate them in the future. I think the issue is they’re trying to target a new audience: kids. That’s why they released the Doraemon Story of Seasons before this one, Doraemon being literally the most popular Japanese kids show. Plus, they made the cover art for this game have chibi characters, made the graphics and overall feel look more like Minecraft, and tried to shift everyone’s focus away from the “adult theme” of marriage. That’s the only way I can rationalize what’s going on with the series.
No chibi for me I actually like the new art style. FoMT put me off due to the some art style & chibi style idk why though. I think it's because I liked the 3ds versions more I guess. I don't think they tried to shift attention from marriage which is not smart as they gave us a 20+ year old protagonist storywise..., but it's true they aimed to make this suitable for all ages by removing things like wine & turning marriage into best friends ceremony when it comes to same gender. I think they also might've been both overwhelmed by pressure & being rushed to get a game out on the nswitch as they nswitch all over 3 years on the market, with no SoS game on it & years after previous installments, many of their fans are grown up now too, some now parents with young kids/grandkids to play with, so it's hard to cater to all of them without making the game too realistic/ mature. They also got a bit lost due competition I guess, as now there're many alternative farm sums & even more coming, some still play on 3DS too. Covid hit too... The latest SoS game just felt barebone to me compared with older games. It was like it was still in development or so & unfinished, it lacked basic features like storage sorting & many issues I have were already mentioned in this video. It felt indeed backwards with some things I also miss option to trade & visit friends that'swhat I also loved to do in the 3ds series. I read your kids disappear with divorce & honestly that doesn't feel ok either it should be optional (didn't try marriage yet). The lack of hidden marriage candidates & reverse proposal also makes it more bland. I even found the "taming" they advertised with here in the West a joke as you don't really tame the animals (so much potential with that too) & so sad you can't befriend/get some wild animals as & get them as pets too or reacquire your released animals/pets. Cooking takes 30 min. regardless of dish I found that really annoying & stressful tbh. Fishing also one of my dillema's I miss raising fish & honestly I wish we could dig a pond for that by ourselves & an aquarium for our home to have a petfish or so, same with farming like with different field for rice or so like in past. With the museum it would've been nice if there was a rating or so where you get rewards for arranging & donating better quality. I also feel a bit upset you can't change nor rearrange anything after you donate. I also felt incredibly stressed that I couldn't put things on the flooring, I feel we need more flooring & customization like wallpapers, different houses of house ability to move the house etc. The customization is still to lacking for my taste. I feel same way about the hairstyles & dye colors as Potatofuji. I felt disappointed not more hairstyles, especially long hairstyles wish we had one like Reina's or Laura's. I feel we should've had accessories too earings etc. as we can craft them & they could've implemented the perfume into the friend & dating system too like in previous titles. I felt positive about the music, but maybe because I played atelier series & acnh a lot before this. I like that you could change bgm/had more options in that regard. The map too loved how organised it was & that you could check the times simply by looking at the map. Also love that you can also use the touchscreen when playing in handheld mode, so they did a pretty good job in that department. tldr:The game still has a lot of potential & room for improvement though. It's frustrating though seeing the potential getting wasted, not being maximised, optimized or realized. So I'm a bit worried for the future I hope they really listen & improve more as they've made some progress over the years.
I watched the japanese let's play and I was really disapointed with the game because the new producer changed so many things about that game included the socialization part of the SoS game that I used to love so much. it looks like to me that it is just a farm game.... Make a lot of money by selling vegetables that's all matters in that game and I don't like it. I did not buy it and I am not sure that I will change my mind. I hope that the next game will be better but right now, I think I will keep playing SoS on my 3DS. I have been waiting for so long so I wish I could play it but I cannot, that game is not a story of season for me so I pass. it is a shame but the more I see the less I wanna play it ...too bad but yeah maybe the next game will change my mind.
Unfortunately many players had the same reaction 😔 while revisiting the old games is really enjoyable, you should definitely look into the new Rune Factory game set to come out in May this year! The old producer of the HM series is producing it 😁
Yeah... This seems like a lazy addition to the series which is surprising because Trio of Towns is the best game in the entire franchise and it was the last new game released.
Small rant here, but my 3Ds got stolen and what makes me feel even more bitter about this new game is that I can't go back and play the better, older games because I'd need to buy a new 3Ds ;-; I would be happy for Trio of Towns to get a port on the switch with some new adjustments, like what happened with Rune Factory 4 !
@@jesusramirezromo2037 What I don't like about emulating DS games is that I feel like having two screens on one feels pretty weird, maybe that's just me.
I feel sooo indecisive about this game 😭 I mean I have fun playing it but it feels kind of hollow? Like you mentioned, the never changing dialogues and the missing character portraits (I really loved the art style of them)! But also the way cutscenes work? Yay we get plenty of them but I feel like they don't have any impact on the game? And then how much (or should I say less???) you can do for example the egg festival which was basically just a cut scene... Only two festivals per season and the limited amount of furniture placement even though there is SOO MUCH SPACE in our house?! I love exploring all the different areas but the thing that definitely annoys me the most are those stupid machines! I was always excited about getting new machines in past games but now I have to place at least five to get some wood that takes 8 hours to produce but I have nothing to do because I can make sprinklers to water my plants and no one to talk to because all they do is say the same stuff... With all this waiting it feels like a mobile game... Ah wait no, I can go get more wood because trees grow like weed everwhery you didn't place something 😫😫😫 I forgot to say: The more machines you put the heavier the frame rate drops 🙃
I think the unhappiness with the game is very valid and important. This is coming from someone who is a huge story of seasons supporter. This game was clearly rushed and underdeveloped, and that shouldn't be the new standard that the company goes by. In most categories like dialogue, events, challenges of progression, I really don't think it's accurate to say this game has made the leap of improvement since the last game, in fact it's regressed and it's much more bland and pointlessly frustrating. Can you honestly say this game does anything better than trio of towns besides the graphics? That's the sort of experience I was looking for. It shouldn't be the standard to wait for all the dlcs and patches to make the game passable as good. It's the same way I feel about people saying you can't dislike cyberpunk. I think people have every right to point out things they are disappointed in when games don't meet the standards they should. I know a lot of it has to do with the corporate side of companies wanting more annual realeses and money effiency and the devs don't have control over that. And it's okay too if you love the game and everything about it. But it's valid and I think necessary for people to point out where companies are taking obvious huge short cuts and cutting quality of their games, because they can and should do better. That doesn't mean we hate the company or don't wish them success, actually I want more than anything to feel the way I did the first time I played trio of towns or story of seasons again. I don't encourage hsrrasment of staff or companies, but constructive criticism is something that people shouldn't just shut down immediately. You can love a company and their work and still wish for more than a bare bones game with much less effort than usual. Just my two cents!
The main problem with POoT (appropriate acronym there) is that it not only scaled back on romance (I find pregnancy and childbirth to be some of the more popular features excluded), but it scaled back on pretty much everything. Farming mechanics, general relationships, even the harvest festivals. I'm also of the opinion that those magical divorces where you go on as if you never married, as well as your child having no relationship points, makes players care about post-marriage events a lot less. While this may be so that people can see the heart events of every bachelor(ette) more quickly, a better solution would simply be to have more save files. I haven't seen the Friends of Mineral Town remake yet, but A New Beginning, the 2014 game, and Trio of Towns were games that did almost everything right. The soul in earlier games that people speak of comes from how much effort the developers put into every aspect of them, something that is clearly lacking in this game. I do have an issue with the newer games though, and that is how fast in-game time flows. I'd like to be able to do everything on my own time and other than the ones where time stops indoors and/or at, say, 6 pm, I haven't been able to get that feeling at all. This means that anyone who wants to get anything done has to rush through all the conversations without actually reading them and appreciating what the characters say. You have to rush pretty much everything. I think this may be why the farming mechanics were dumbed down: to save time for the player. Maybe one option would be to allow players to change in the settings how fast in-game time flows?
Really shows how much love and attention to detail story of seasons has in it when you compare it to the story of seasons and harvest moon games of late.
I am so happy I picked the mineral town one. The saleslady recommended me the pioneers of olive town because it's the latest version but I picked the mineral town one because, on the back part of the game container, there are options like you can pick relationships, hobbies, etc and the pioneers of olive town is just empty and just contained the description of the game. So happy I made the right decision 😆
I bought this game after I watched this video and now I'm addicted haha. It definitely didn't deserve the hate. I see the main complaint by the community were the makers. The makers were great addition, but can be improved. An improvement something like... instead of building many of the same makers, they can upgrade 1 maker several times. The more you upgrade, the more quantity you can make at the same time with the same 1 maker. Max upgrade = Up to 20. They can also improve the design of the makers in future games so the farm won't look like a storage for bank machines. xD
Dialogue really matters to me! I’ve been playing for just under 35 hours. I’m moving slowly cause I’m trying not to look up a whole lot unless I just can’t figure something out. I do kind of lose interest in picking a partner if the dialogue is going to suck 🥺 Also can we please stack crafting items instead of everything one at a time for the machines (like making thread or yarn)
The seasons pass ended up beeing exactly what ive feared : content which should have been in the game. I am at the beginning of summer and almost done, i have the 3rd area, only need money to upgrade, unlocked all (except that one big house) additional buildings. The characters are one dimensional. What the fuck are these Candidates, bachelors and bachelorettes, why are all the good ones not avaluable? Also the additional ones should be in the base game, the base the game is too short. Evene for a HM game... No strafe button, its been 25 years, you should know that the strafe button is very needed, or at least a similar feature (like the first RF and HM Tale of two towns) The makers, i dont have actually have a BIG problem with them (i played My time at Portia), but at least make it possible to stack shit, why do i have to always refill it? The Festivals are cutscenes, also why only 2 per season? THis is a HUGE downgrade from Trio of Towns. Last but not least, the graphics and optimization. Game freezes, lags and has fps drops (all from time to time), weird fade in after loading screen, relatively long loading screens from time to time. The graphics are.... bland, i hope that RF5 will get a graphic "upgarde", the textures look better in Animal Parade.... Edit: i could go on an don, but i love this series and RF too much to just ignore these mistakes, i want these games to succeed, RF was already once at the edge of dying. And for SoS, the last time a console game came out was with Animal Parade, its no secret that home consoles sales are usually better than handheld, so this would have been a huge opportunity. Adding content is always good, cutting it so you can add it isnt. I hope so much they can fix it!!!
THANK YOU for addressing the bobble head appearance of the main character lol I looked lots of places too and didn’t see anyone mention it. A couple of the other characters too I feel like have either too large or strangely shaped heads. It’s oddly distracting to me
There are a few things that I believe should be brought back to make this game even better and that is the option to move the furniture around your house. Eating with your spouse. Bring back the starry night festival, animal festivals, cooking festival and crop festival. Those are the things that I would like to see brought back, other than that it's a not a bad game like you are describing in the video. The old SOS games were a million times better and had more personality to them. Especially SOS trio of towns on the 3ds which is probably one of my favorite SOS game of all time.
Ooohhh if people aren't liking the sprinklers and auto feeders than they would NOT like Stardew valley lol. At one point you can make everything on your farm automatic from sprinklers to auto feeders, auto grabbers to get the milk/eggs and such and even little creatures to pick up the harvest for you. But in all honesty they give you the OPTION on whether you wanna craft these things in both of these games. The game doesn't force you too. I hope the romance isn't as bad as you say though! ):
The thing is, in Stardew Valley it takes you hours of gameplay to get these upgrades. So I feel like by this time you already have done these task 1000 times and are more than ready to move on and use your time for something else.
@@mopfmopf Stardew Valley is more challenging than Story of Seasons. Let's be honest here Stardew Valley, with the sexual references, smoking and such, really isn't made for kids. I feel like the creator made the game more challenging knowing that. Story of Seasons on the other hand is made for every age in mind. So it only makes sense that the game be easier. Plus it's going to be on a Nintendo console. I don't think they want their game to be hard but more so relaxing.
Because Stardew Valley did more with one developer than Harvest moon/SoS has innovated in the last 20 years. And that's with SDV starting off as a 80% copy of Harvest moon on the snes
I Like this Game so far, but the loading time, the dialouges and the Missing Portraits are my Most biggest Problem. Hope this will be fixed. Because all the Others Features and concepts are Not that Bad to me.
For me honestly. I loved it and loved the characters. But the game itself felt like it didn't want me to explore the character's more. Heart events end so abruptly and they barely change what they say. Additional heart events after marriage IS nice but there should be more focus on the characters next time. Also this really only bugs me. But iir the last producer said they wanted to make same sex marriage more realistic and adding a few bi/gay characters instead of making everyone bi which I was hoping to see implemented instead of the current system. Maybe I'm remember wrong though.
I appreciate your take on it but I'm a bit disappointed in the dev downplaying the romance option. To me there's 3 important aspects of this series. Farming, character relationships and economy. All of them need to be treated equally because the harmony between the 3 is what makes this series special. I hope rune factory 5 remembers the same but with combat included. I may still get this game some day and I would if monster hunter wasn't 2 days away. Great video btw!
I think the muzeum was more inspired by Stardew Valley. There are many things that remind me of an attempt to imitate SDV. I wouldn't mind, honestly.. but I won't buy until some dialogue fixes and hopefully new festivals. :(
Yes, don’t buy it!! I just have made a mistake yesterday I bought it even I heard a bad rumor about it but still want to try and finally it turn to hell!! Very bad lack of portraits is enough but lack of camera also it not zoom when you talk to npc all character look like a robot like many people said! Bad dream. I think buy it on sale is a better way.
The biggest thing that deters me from getting this game is the NPCs, tbh. I think Rune Factory has spoiled me for this type of game because of the rich characters and sense of togetherness the Town Events and ever-changing dialogue gives the player. You can go in-game years without hearing the same dialogue twice (unless it’s event dialogue). If Story of Seasons took after Rune Factory in this aspect, I think I would enjoy it no matter what other problems it had.
I really want to talk about the events. They are so lame. The events are super short and most of them are so forgettable. I will admit that there are cute ones but still. Even when you date someone the events don't feel like you are watching two people who are together. I don't know everyone's "dating" events yet, so there might be better ones for some characters but what I have seen so far really isn't worth it. Some confession events are like 30 seconds long and even though the words I love you come up it seemed kinda lifeless. I played Trio of towns not too long ago and comparing those two makes the new one really look bad. I know that this is a farming game but being a fan of this series for a long time now I believe that relationships be it romantic ones or platonic ones were always extremely important. I really loved how I felt like my character became closer to the villagers or even built a romantic connection to someone, so playing this game now and seeing how flat all those dialogues are really upsets me. I know they can do much better but for some reason they chose not to.
Also some things I find I’m not too fond of is the fact that the cow and chicken is right outside the barn to ‘tame’ and it doesn’t even take any effort. Like at least make me actually tame it, by giving IT an gift everyday. It just felt like a freebie. I don’t enjoy the freebies the game gives you. Like here, take this chicken and cow, they’re free. Here take this ____ maker, it’s free! Like it makes the progress a bit shorter. And I’m not really a fan. I wanna have to work hard to make every single item and buy everything I want. And I also don’t like the house customization. The house is frickin’ HUGE with tons of space, it’s all open space, and then in reality you have a square in the corner to actually put furniture. Like what is even the point in buying furniture for ONLY a corner?... I thought the spacing was a bit weird in the wii versions and thought space could’ve been utilized more, but this game is ever worse! The missing portraits don’t even make sense, like even the recent “harvest moon” brand has character portraits and those games suck. So that says a lot. This game just feels like a giant shortcut. I do like that the normal plots are back for plants tho, I thought the 3ds versions looked weird and took up too much space and less work to maintenance. So that’s one small random thing I like about the game. And it looks visually nice. But with all the core stuff it’s missing....it had potential and he blew it. I mean, why would I look forward to an egg festival in the game where it’s JUST a cut scene of finding the eggs and then it’s over? Isn’t it a game? should put it feel like a mini game? Lol especially when there are hardly any events all year round.
I’m so glad I watched this video because you saved me from buying this game. Also, i like how you talk, taking your time to relaxed and you give a lot of detail.
Thanks for honest review. I read JP comments in Amazon before but it doesn't seem good. But this review makes people know better about this game or update. I glad you put about those thing in this clip too. Thank you again :3
I think they are listening now. The remake couldnt change much but with new game and constructive feedback I think the dev can improve and change so much. Nothing is set now. Just give them feedback not complains
Thank you for the insight into the reasoning behind the reviews and comments! I've been going back and forth on whether to get the game. I likely will still give it a try, especially if they do make any sort of updates down the road. It seems like the team is taking feedback which is a good sign and hopefully will improve in future installments. As an aside, I subscribed to your channel several years ago after coming across it while searching for information on the best Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games. I was impressed with the quality of your videos, so I was disappointed when it seemed like you stopped making new ones. As such, I'm really glad you seem to have decided to start producing content pretty regularly again! It is clear you put a lot of effort and creativity into making your videos, so keep up the great work and I hope it pays off!
I rlly looked forward to this game n I'm rlly enjoying it. But it's very frustrating how limited I am with decorating my home n my farm.. It was so stupid of them to put decorating into the game but not put enough things to decorate with, not only that u can't rotate decorative items at all or even place them on top of rugs or paths.. Also the machines take a ridiculous amount of space n u can't even place things on the edge of ur farm, which is just dumb. Also they added a beach to ur farm but u can't even do anything with it..? I was rlly looking forward to grinding gems cuz I'm that kind of weirdo, but mining in the game didn't have much to offer either. There's literally less than 10 gems in the game n only 4 types of ores.. The game did feel very unfinished to me, I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it but I admit that I am very disappointed with how they finished it. They need to update this game n fix certain things n add some more stuff to the game. This isn't worth $40-$60 with how it is now😔
What I want to know is why can’t I auto-organize any of my inventories!? Why does it take so long to get things appraised? Why is there only one mission on the townhall board...? Also I miss just having 1 fridge and one cabinet!
Totally agree! 👍🏻
It’s not even just romance too
Like you said townsfolk relationships! I used to look forward to getting to know the people of the town
It feels a lot less charming in this game, romance or not
Plus marrying a character for the sake of marriage and a kid is boring
Adding more spice to the characters makes it more immersive
Agree there was only a handful of interesting characters and the one who had personalities you couldn't even marry. (Like jacopo)
moreover, all the NPC looks lifeless, with no expression, no dark secret that we learn as we deepen our relationship with them.
Personally I don’t usually get married, I just like building my farm and usually the marriage candidates just aren’t that interesting.
that's a quote from the previous developer not the current one
And this is why Coral Island is gonna show these clowns up REAL soon...
If they wanted a purely farming game, that's what spin off titles are for
the part that's more like animal crossing is the lack of dialogue LMAO
So true. I remember villagers being sassy and fun and not just.. nice. Even the grumpy ones are not grumpy at all. I don't talk to anyone anymore in AC.
The characters don't blink......ever.
To me it's like the baby of tides of destiny and new horizons.
I'm in my first autumn now and it's honestly getting boring already talking to characters, they say the same things every day. And the repetitive holiday/event dialogues... Don't get me started.
@@eromir247 I was hoping they would add those later. im really saddened by this like everyone else to say the least. How did they miss the biggest part of what makes an animal crossing game :(
Seems like SOS is experiencing an identity crisis. Hopefully the future patches will remedy the issues. Keeping my hopes high for Rune Factory 5 now
i just hope its not made by the same producer and that it still has all of teh dialouge..... this has me unnvered for the future of both series.
@@DarkQuilava13 Hashimoto, the original creator of both series and the genius behind the quality dialogue of previous games, didn't even work on this game in order to completely focus on RF5. So that guarantees that RF5 will be better.

aibo goku dude just try rf5
Rune Factory isn't completely focused on romance either, but at LEAST the dialog changes depending on your relation with that person. And that detail means a lot to me, it makes me feel loved and cared by townsfolk and the one you're dating OR married.
So, SoS has no excuse to damp it that much, if that's the right word I'm looking for.
Edit; o m g I've never had this many likes on a comment; o;
Even most of the cut scenes are so bland that you aren't even sure if you're dating or not. You think they would at least try there, since they cut everything else. Some of the random charas have better cut scenes then the marriage candidates!
I have to say I've never been that impressed with relationship building in HM/SOS, and it felt even more lacking once I sank my teeth into my first RF game, but uhh, ,yeah, the fact that this game has even less conditional dialogue variation is like... you guys went in the wrong direction
In RF4, I feel like I want to and have to speak to every person daily, because they literally never run out of interesting new things to say every day, even after like 3.3 years of progression.

I like both aspects
The dating sim aspect alone would be too weird to me
I like that it’s farming sim W/dating sim together lol
It was a nice balance for me
But this game feels meh, I only played trial and I barely unlocked anything but the UI is weird and the gameplay feels kinda weird too idek
I enjoyed it but you can definitely see that it could have been so much more than what it was
gosh, i should have looked into it more ;/ it def seems unfinished… and the explanations are so bad or left out.
How they gonna make a game about farming, then get rid of the main festival for farming..?
Edit: they're gonna need to make MAJOR a dialogue overhaul.
Edit 2: you... Don't even look for the eggs yourself in the egg event? Does this game just? Play itself for you?
yeah, this sucks! ;_;
I was shocked there was no harvest festival ;_;
Yeah I was like WTF? The whole egg festival was just a cut scene and I did nothing???? Like I would skip it to work on my farm if I knew.
I have Trio of Towns and I believe that this new entry is inferior in every way.
Why couldn't they just port Trio of Towns to the Switch instead 😒
@@ashiel035 OMG I feel the same. ToT is way better in so many ways.

Romance customization and character interaction were the biggest reasons why I was excited about this game ~ so thank you so much for this review. That feeling of loneliness is my most hated thing in games. What a bummer!
In all fairness, Rune Factory was the game based on this most of the time.
But even compared to very old HM games, the dialogue as well as friendship/romance is very lackluster.

totally agree
yeah i wish there was better romance.

I miss the days when games didn’t rely on updates after launch.
Funny editing - the player’s head really does look big!
the day games didnt rely on updates, the only way to fix bugs was if you gone to a shop switch your cartdridge for a new one or BUY a updated cartdridge making you waste money TWICE.
Happens very often
I agree with you that it is a positive thing to be able to update games like this though
Yeah he had the right idea but it missed the mark a bit, hope the updates help; then next SoS will be done right.
They clearly add stuff without understanding why.
@@nidohime6233 Maybe but let's hope they learned from this.
Unfortunately poorly implemented and the UI and whatnot is definitely not streamlined
In the 3DS games I’m pretty sure there was an “edit mode” it made organizing your farm much easier and didn’t waste your in game day away, they didn’t even include that
There’s also no quick tool menu or auto sort button (and for some reason no house storage aside from fridge?)
Animal care also got dumbed down and is a lot less immersive
Your pets could herd animals before, that was so cool! I think they could do other tasks too in some games? Unless I’m confusing it with something else
And the horse is soulless it doesn’t even have hearts anymore 😔
(Also in tott it was cool that we had the mobile storage carriage)
You used to be able to jump over small fences and whatnot too
Also the player feels so slow, I did a test run on 3ds and they’re way faster (mounts too)
It’s not like everything is awful but still, it was kinda poorly executed and rushed
@@RikaRieGaming I really hope so
A new beginning was kinda similar
Very new stuff with the whole customization spiel
The town and graphics were kinda dull as a result probably partially because you’d “decorate it” later but they got better in later titles, especially trio of towns
Also in anb the town revitalization was weird I remember struggling to get the good points/ranks to progress and didn’t know how to get consistent good ones, it killed some immersion for me as a result because there’s stuff tied to that that would be locked unless you progress

I can't even make a chicken pen without trees & rocks spawning all over. Animals teleport out of fences too
I noticed that too, I'm like "What's the point of fencing them in if they're just gonna get out anyways?"
I actually really enjoyed trip towns. The festivals were top notch in that one. And I really liked the heart events and characters in that game.

@@vermontvampyre Sure feels like it. Why're they cloning a franchise that cloned them first is beyond me. Just because it makes millions of sales? I had hoped Marvelous won't get greedy like Natsume, but alas :'D
Right? I can't continue playing Stardew in the first place due to the lack of character interraction. It feels lonely and frustrating. Previous HM and SoS are like safe havens :'D At least Stardew isn't as bad as PoOT tho. It does have character events until you're done doing those and then character interraction just stops, lol.

I'm GLAD people are giving negative feedback, because that's the only way the developers know they need to do better next time.
The fact that they've already patched issues and are talking about directly changing what players didnt like gives me a lot of hope. I think the director nailed the gameplay loop just didnt put enough time into most everything else.
Glad the downspiraling sales woke them up at least x'D
I think stuff like sprinkler systems is cool but the farming aspect doesn’t seem that great from what I have played in game trial
I got to year 1 autumn
Animal care is dumbed down
The animals go inside themselves but in other games you could get your pets to heard them automatically and save you the trouble of doing it yourself
It was cool that the pets had tasks and help they could perform
The UI and stuff is also very clunky in some aspects
There’s no auto sort which irks me because it’s annoying to see the empty slots and out of order inventory and you can only manually and tediously drag and drop
The tools should just have their own quick menu like other games have done
Customization is cool but poorly implemented, pretty sure the 3DS games had a “edit mode” it let you move stuff around and whatnot more easily without wasting your entire day (in game) and placing and moving stuff in PoOT is a hassle, if we had edit mode it would be way better
Idk what it is but something about the UI and gameplay in general feels weird definitely part of it is the sorting and no quick tool menu
It just feels backwards and not streamlined if that makes sense
QoL improvements could already make a huge difference, they may have addressed some but it’s not enough
I'm a year late.. But have they rlly fixed or added anything for the game?? I hope they are still doing so😔
I really hope this game was just an exception and they'll orient themselves for future games more at older games.
Yes that game has “edit mode”
I have no idea how they can be all gung ho about “customization” when the execution is poorly done
I mean if they at least did an edit/creator mode it would make it so much easier
Trying to revamp your farm is such a pain in this game
There was a SoS game that even let you move fields I think??
ToT had exactly what anyone could want in a casual farming game:
- lots of customization, both in decor, farm and attires
- great characters and sooo many events that you could probably play the game for hundreds of hours and still experience new dialogue
- in-depth farming systems (crop stats, animal stats)
- great alternatives to farming (fishing, fish farms, mushrooms, bees, etc. etc.)
These key features have always been what made SoS stand out to me in a great sea of farming sims with dating elements.
I'm sad that I paid full price for this... But oh well the farming is fun at least.
Right now I'm just hoping that RF5 can fill the void in my heart 💔
After playing it for a couple days I am 90% disappointed in this game. It feels like not just a step back, but three. Like.....this game feels like it came out 5 years ago by an indie company. Its so damn shallow it makes me want to explode. I am officially worried about rf
How did you get that adorable dress?!
I got it as a content bonus for preordering my game through Rakuten Books 🙌
The thing with Animal Crossing is that those events seemed like planned timed additions, while this Story of Seasons situation seems more unprepared and based out of bad publicity. A lot of this seems like cutting corners as much as possible to save money and hoping the player-base doesn't notice or care. The increased speed of everything can also be described as cutting corners and taking out the important little details that can make these games feel "comfortable" and homey.
And it seems some of the fans don't care as long as it's 'story of seasons' brand.
I hope you upload more. This is good content and insight. I would be surprise if your channel didn't grow huge.
Your words of encouragement mean the world to me! I really appreciate it!!
I really wish they would have a better team I know it’s not the producer fault but still he should have thought for a second before making a game.
I can’t believe Story Of Seasons was the one who killed romance all along
The big head😭😭 I want to romance Ralph but he has probably the most proportioned head in the game and meanwhile I look so... wrong next to him😭
Literally same 😂😂😂 I had to stop giving him gifts cuz I felt like he was judging my big head, especially since he almost never smiles 😭
@@Potatofuji omg 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah what’s up with that
It’s so weird
It’s like you’re an alien or something lmao
What I hate about this game:
- Crafting system (not efficient, wasting too much time)
- Instant baby (without pregnancy)
- Manual house design (very annoying that u need to craft many lumbers and ingots, and pay much for a carpenter just for a little change to ur house)
- No TV
Things that ruin this game for me :
the makers
no portraits anymore
DLC....
the makers
no changes in dialogue
festivals are bland
the time keeps running in houses and the mines
Did I mention the makers?
animals like me too fast
i dont need tools for tendering the animals anymore
no real "harvest goddess"
the goddamn makers
puddles I have to drain
gratification too fast and too often
mobile gamish up-lvling while doing things with titles and rewards
framedrops because of the .....*whispers* makers
If I build on the islands I lose natural ressources.
No places to explore, only town and the giant farm. (Expected a wildlife area matching the pioneer theme)
cutscenes seem to be stiff and empty, I mean I enter Marcos house the first time and without talking the wife throws a fishing rod to my face
the mystery child's cutscenes were also pretty rushed and stiff....
the design of the harvest gnomes?
Most of the time when you are talking to people, you don't even really see their face or expression (Which seems increadibly lazy)
Story of Seasons much like the previous iterations of the series might not focus necessarily on romance but it did tend to allow more of a (You are integrating with a community of characters). However, as you said their dialogue doesn't really change. I am mashing the A button when I do my daily routines of talking to people. caring very little of what they are saying and knowing whenever a holiday is being announced you just hear EVERY townsperson go "I am so excited for insert holiday here. Beep bop boop"
It did feel very animal cross-y though.
I can't believe ppl will leave a series over one bad game, it's sad tbh. We have to support and give feedback when they needed it.
My feelings exactly! 😁🙌
I’ve really been enjoying this game! I like talking to everyone in town and getting the random cutscenes. I don’t understand why people don’t like it.
I don’t think it’s bad.
The character customization is amazing and I love how the bachelors and bachelorettes seem different. I just wish there was more festivals and their photo on the chat.
I was sad because I was unable to pre order this game when it came out, now I feel better about not getting it.
I didn't hate the new SoS,...i really love it
It's my first time in your channel, love how you review it and how thoughtful you are with your words.
@@Potatofuji some stuff feels really dumbed down based on my experience in the recent game trial
I wasn’t even playing seedling mode
Lol
I think they should just make a kiddie mode for people that prefer it simplified but let other people choose other modes for a more “classic” experience
You know, like you need to do more labour and if you don’t have a herding pet then it’s your responsibility to make sure you put your animals away
Automatic systems like sprinklers are fine because that makes sense and it’s not like you have it instantly either, that I don’t mind
Same with auto feeders and whatnot
But animal care feels so dumbed down, I can understand that some might find it to be annoying or a hassle but just one button for everything without tools feels so pointless and your horse is no longer something you can forge a bond with, it feels soulless…literally just a mode of transportation can’t even feed, pet or brush the poor thing
You used to be able to pickup your small animals it was so cute
Villagers could even have favorite animals and you could show them and get their reaction
The animals barely do anything besides produce byproducts
I loved interacting with them but it’s pretty lack lustre when all you can do is pet them and press the same buttons for everything else without tools(in the 3DS games they had treats for livestock too)
I mean sure there’ll be less to do with livestock but some games beforehand had a nice pet system
Must be because someone new is in charge. But good news is the person who worked on past games is working on rf5
@@myon9431 You could get an emulator on your pc, or if you have a decent phone
You OWN the game, so its not even iligal to emulate it
@@jesusramirezromo2037 What I don't like about emulating DS games is that I feel like having two screens on one feels pretty weird, maybe that's just me.
Ah wait no, I can go get more wood because trees grow like weed everwhery you didn't place something 😫😫😫
I forgot to say: The more machines you put the heavier the frame rate drops 🙃
The head size thing would bother me so much
Really shows how much love and attention to detail story of seasons has in it when you compare it to the story of seasons and harvest moon games of late.
I would definitely agree in taking the mineral town remake over this one!!! now you should be excited for Rune Factory 5 coming out next year :)
I do kind of lose interest in picking a partner if the dialogue is going to suck 🥺
Also can we please stack crafting items instead of everything one at a time for the machines (like making thread or yarn)
No strafe button, its been 25 years, you should know that the strafe button is very needed, or at least a similar feature (like the first RF and HM Tale of two towns)
The makers, i dont have actually have a BIG problem with them (i played My time at Portia), but at least make it possible to stack shit, why do i have to always refill it?
It’s oddly distracting to me
It feels unpolished. And for 50 dollars, I expect a polished game.
Love how you ended this video with positivity. Feels so nice to have a new SoS game!!
Needs some qol fixes too 😬
For me honestly.
Maybe I'm remember wrong though.
....Stardew Valley has a museum and that game is fucking AMAZING
Story of Seasons on 3DS were amazing. These feel oversimplified and watered down.
I was hoping for a big aquarium like in animal crossing what a shame
@@sinrylala4573 yeah I’d only buy own sale or pre owned lol
this is not sos but my time at portia.. all about maker and maker , no time to increase love with people in olive town 😔😔
Agreed!!
So there is a new producer... that explains a lot
Thank you for addressing the negativity! It’s really appreciate it.
