My GSD is exactly the same as Dane, playful, generally chilled, a bit unsure and doesn't like to be overwhelmed. He is slightly on the dominant side, so I've learned to monitor and keep him at check at the dog park but this body language break down eg the going in between my dog and other dog during first meeting thing is so helpful! So much dog miscommunication happens when two leashed dogs that are being held back meet. They can't communicate with each other properly and the next thing you know there is a fight or growling. This is why I like to run new dogs off leash with my dogs so natural communication can take place. Another great video, thanks.
When my dog is on leash he will not have contact to other dogs who I don't know.I take care of that. He is very leash reactive but he gets better and better because he can trust me when we're out that he won't get into a situation he doesn't want.he is off leash in doggy daycare or with friends dogs thats it. I will not risk a fight and lose his trust.
That's why I would not let two leashed dogs who don't know each other to meet face to face. If I have to let the two dogs meet (example: during meet and greet for doggy sitting), then I will let one dog walk in front of the other. Then vice versa. Do it slowly. Then, if everything is good... we go to fenced park or space to let the two dogs free and keep watch.
I had an idea about a future video series and I suspect that could be well in the future. Next time you get a puppy for your family, document how you pick your pup and how you raise them/train them as a part of your family. There are videos on how to pick a dog that fits your family and lifestyle but I am curious if anyone has documented from the time you go to pick a pup to the daily training you go through to set the pup up for success and your family up for success since it takes the whole pack or family to raise a dog or child. It would be a long series but very valuable.

Perfect example when you pick up Dane not comfortable and you intervene by setting play boundary to the white young American bulldog. The way I see it, you accomplished 2 things here. 1. as previously mentioned to introduce play limit for the bulldog 2. Showing you in control to the German Sheppard. He feels not too comfortable being pursue, you stepped in and tell the bulldog to stop. This strengthen the trust that human is the protector and in charge. Alot of fighting and agression happens because dog feels the human is incompetent in controlling the situation, and they decided to take matter in their own hands
Working on this with my dog. She needs to learn boundaries because she thinks she is all important. It’s working but still 2 steps forward 1 step back. This girl is hardheaded and sassy. Love your training!
Love the tip about pursuing! Have already been doing that since day one with our lab pup. Except we have been utilizing it mostly with our cat lol. Our cat doesn’t want his but to be smelled constantly lol.

Not to mention Dane will see you stopping the dogs pursuing him, building your trust factor with him. Decreasing the likelihood of a fight or Dane feeling the need to bite. That can relax him more and hopefully bring him out of his shell. Nervous dogs definitely take time to get their confidence up and feel at ease.
my rottie also a completely better dog off leash, on the leash was unpredictable even going after a child once. the dog was sniffing the ground faced away from the kid, and young boy was just hopping on and off the curb completely ignoring the dog, in less than a second the dog turns around and lunges at the kid, i was able to see the lunge mid air and hold the dog back. They were both completely normal with each other after that but it really made me think that day what could've caused it
This is definitely helpful in reading body language but does the German Shepherd like the two pups? Maybe could be better with another more grown up dog?
Hi there! My dog is similar to the GSD in this video except much more reactive--he would have been totally triggered by the white puppy sniffing his face right away, and unlike the GSD, he would have probably lashed out and attacked in response to the feeling that his boundaries are being violated. Is there a way to correct/fix this? Thanks!

question when teaching dogs to wait I decide to use okay as the release word. It was easy for me to remember but I later found out it is to common a word. Is it to late to start using release instead?
Hey Joel. You said there’s never such a thing as a bad play bow but I swear my spayed female GSD bows and barks like crazy when a new dog approaches the dog park. Like she licks there face between the face but then barks and growls and wags her tail is wagging. If I let the other dog in it’s a 50/50 chance I don’t want to take. My dogs fantastic at the water park with 50+ dogs but when she’s at the dog park her growls and play bows sound so nasty.
My almost 2yo does play bows (with barking) in protest (at least I interpret it as a protest/frustration). Like when she’s off leash in the yard and I won’t let her fixate on a squirrel or not give a guest some space (she’s EXTREMELY friendly, aka rude, when she gets overwhelmed with throttling her excitement). But I kinda think me “claiming” a boundary she can’t cross makes her nervous and that’s the play bow trigger? Like my body language or eye contact or something?? I don’t want to degrade any trust so should I take the barking play bows as a signal to change my strategy or is she just working her own strategies to solve her own problem of not getting what she wants?
Sounds like she's a very smart gal and doing her best to manipulate you into getting her way. I know cause mine does the same thing and I admit I'm guilty to giving in at times. They can be just be so darn cute. Just can't let it become a habit because then it's hard to break.🤦♀️

@@centralflife891 literally only cuz i am interasted in the answer, it does not make any difference whatsoever hahahah i want a doberman but idk if the breeder makes ''the cuts'' or do owners doo that (not literally cutting ears and tails on their own but trough a vet), plus knowing from someones experience helps a lot, i want that on my future dog but its not something I NEED on my dog

@@PlsNevaSurrenda tails are done by the breeder at 6 weeks or so. Ears are generally up to the owner and are done around 12 weeks. Clipped ears and tail are the original breed standard going all the way to the guy who created the breed.
@@christga100 I like the cut ears. I use to work at an animal hospital. Got to see rotties get docked. Yes they squeel like for a split second then back to sleep. I didn’t see any abuse in that. I’m sure they will get bitten worse by their litter mates
No, why do you think that would help, sterilisation? Why not to cut one ear off. ? Would that help, at least then you can do that again. Maybe then the dog is fixed.

When you ,right on the spot, cut off one ear, when he misbehaves, he will not misbehave again, you have another chance to warn him that you take his second ear, that is one way to cope with your frustration. Lets see if you have the guts. Rather then giving the order to a vet nip his balls off. All these ideas are off limit, over the top. Is your country developed? Are you human with those ideas? But but but sir 'Robert' he is not neutured it is normal that he behaves like this. So I say this. TEACH YOUR DOG TO BEHAVE. You live in the crazy country. A human carrying a gun on the street is a murderer in his mind but, he will not take to be responsible to kill a man with his bare hands, in a distance , clean hands, rotten minds. I could really use help diagnosing my cavalier king Charles barking at other dogs. And how to fix it. I think he's un socialized. He is 2. He pulks,pulls, in place and barks like he's 🤪 crazy.

Would never let any dogs that i cant trust off leash with other dogs. If I had a "leash" reactive dog i would need to work on that first.

I use “okay” as a release. The context is so much different from the real world I’ve never had a problem with the dog discriminating it
