The Mariah Carey situation is what did it for me. To out someone’s pregnancy without their consent is just gross. And she clearly has every right to announce it on her own terms and had a reason for not doing so. It’s even sadder seeing how that situation turned out.
Yepp, I was not really into the whole 'Cancel Ellen' thing but when i saw what she did to mariah Carey and how she basically forced her to drink wine. Like bish?? know your boundaries! You act so entitled to the point where you think you can force celebs to announce something they clearly dont wanna do!
@@SuperLlama42 Bob Ross went from being a drill sergeant to being the calmest most level-headed person on the planet. He is definitely the epitome of kindness
There's a reason pregnant women don't announce it right away, and that's because of how common complications are in the first half of the pregnancy. What Ellen did to Mariah and then what happened afterwards is the very reason she was keeping it secret.
Yeah. Spontaneous abortions are extremely common in the first three months, and no woman needs that kind of public pressure on top of just losing a child.
Indeed a pregnancy is NOBODY's business other than the couple's and when they decide to announce it. What a disrespectful invasion on people's private lives!
Exactly. I’ve never idolized or given a shit about celebrities because they’re just people... I never understood why some people are obsessed with them.
I gotta say, it's funny that TRO said Samantha Ronson defending Ellen gave a perspective 'outside' the celebrity clique. The same Samantha Ronson who dated Lindsay Lohan, partied with the Paris Hilton and her lot, is related to Mark Ronson, one of the most famous producers in the world...she is anything BUT outside of the celebrity clique.
And people are just mobs that think celebrities need to act like their personal therapists. Ellen did plenty of good in the world, and yet she's expected to go out of her way to personally interact with others off the show, on top as acting as an employee manager? At some point, she should've just said "Fuck you guys," and left. Hope the employees get to enjoy their lack of job. Fucking unprofessional behavior.

I remember seeing her as a kid and thinking "she seems so mean, why does everyone like her?" I thought my thinking was wrong because everyone said otherwise. Lesson: never ignore YOUR gut instincts.
The same as me, the very first time I saw her on tv, much to the confusion of my partner at the time. If we can sense this vibe through a tv, imagine being in the same room, I would probably turn around and walk straight back out again, something I have done on more than one occasion. Some of us can sense the evil, just like children or dogs, except we never grow out of it, especially those of us on the spectrum. I’ve only never been wrong about people a couple of times in my 50+yrs, when I was much younger. My instincts have proven to be right more times than I can remember, even when those around me said I was wrong, only later acknowledging I was right.
SAME. I'd see her on TV when I was growing up and she just seemed so fake nice and like a nasty person who just wasn't being nasty at that exact moment. So many people nowadays CAN'T read people, that being able to read people especially well ends up feeling like a superpower...a completely unappreciated superpower. No matter how many times you go "there, see? I told you so!" They won't believe you next time either
In that horrible Mariah interview, take away the audience, take away the laughter and the applause and it’s straight up peer pressure and I’d go as far to say an abuse of trust.
You are likely correct, but we can only guess what really is happening because humans are a bundle of things at any moment. For example, is it possible Mariah did not explain that moment 100% accurately, maybe because it served some need or justification she had to paint herself as the victim for an audience of viewers that helps evaluate her popularity, income, and all future potential as a celebrity? I am not saying this is the case, or is even more likely than your assessment, just pointing out that people are tricky creatures. I could rattle off scenario after scenario that might be happening at that moment of exchange from my seat on the outside.
@@corndogonasticc yeah me too, it’s like those sitcoms where they take away the laugh track and there are just no jokes or anything forcing you to laugh
Its also possible that Mariah knew what she was going to do. I dont think people realize how much of TV is faked and pre-planned. Often times its the stars themselves who release info on themselves to get attention and stay in the news.
A lot of those celebrity tweets defending her along the lines of "she's done so much for equality" pretty much sounds like "she's our token successful gay if we keep her we can pretend everything is fine" to me. Someone doing 'so much for equality' has literally nothing to do with them treating others poorly.
You have a lot of people, of the lgbtqi+ spectrum, that have done, are doing and live for equality. You have youtubers, office workers, marines, drag queens and so much more that have contributed too. If Ellen goes away it's not the end for equality, you make the change, you don't need a celebrity. I don't mean to take away her contributions, but if you are going to defend her go with she's a human being that was portrayed as the happiest and most possitive person in the world and has to live up to that constantly and that she explodes at some point. If you are going to defend someone, defend who they are.
yes. i understand the sentiment in a way- ellen was the only lgbt person my dad would tolerate, and she was an icon for me growing up. i remember busting my ass to get home from school in time to see her show, and not miss the intro bc it was one of my favorite parts. i just really really looked up to her growing up, bc she made me feel like if my family tolerate her, maybe theyll tolerate me after i come out as well. she made me see that being gay isnt always a life ruining thing, and you can make the most of it if you really work for it and have the luck. needless to say, when i started to notice how ellen has changed over the years, it really disappointed me. i saw the video about her shaming the woman for taking an extra hat for her sister who couldnt come years ago, and my perception of her has slowly changed ever since. she comes off as borderline sadistic in a way, like she enjoys humiliating people. and thats not the worst thing since the people she humiliates usually know what theyre getting into and consent to it (ik someone whos been on the show, got humiliated basically, and fkn loved every second of it. ellen even flew her out to another show and it made her whole year). but it still gives me a weird feeling, like shes very disingenuous. but yeah, long story short, ellen isnt everything shes cracked up to be. shes done good and i respect her for that, i even thank her for being the LGBT representation i desperately needed as a child. im sure she touched many in the same way she touched me. but that doesnt mean she can treat people that way and expect us to just forgive her like nothing ever happened. and her good doesnt negate the bad, AT ALL. that logic is so fkd up.
Well the rich people did exactly the same with Jefrey Epstein 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️. Rich people doesn't care about other people, they just care about status and money
Here's a hot take, so read carefully before you jump at me: *Anyone can be a terrible person, no matter their identity.* I know, I know. I am very, very controversial...
I'm thinking exactly like you are. It's kinda sad for me because I never hated her, I always kinda like her and some of her jokes and antics were genuinely funny for my personal taste (sarcasm). Nobody is perfect...if you try to be perfect all the time, people would try to look for your flaws, and the flaws would seem so big and hideous. It applies for the opposite too...when someone was painted to be too evil and hideous, their small act of kindness might throw people off course and suddenly think that the person is "actually nice". Damn our imaginations...we forget to see the fact that everyone is merely human...and everyone makes mistakes.
🤣 there’s just too much info to put In one video , I kinda feel bad for him , it’s like writing and essay about a book series of 10 books and 8 spin-offs but trying to fit all the info In one sheet of paper , it’s very difficult 😔👐
It’s propaganda. Everyone always say how nice she is, and ofc words spread. My mom’s an Ellen fan and refused to acknowledge all the accusations towards her until now. We can’t assume people are nice because they seem like it on tv or because someone told us they was. And also, her vibe was way off, so I didn’t get why people didn’t sense that
I feel like she always seems to be slightly dismissive. Maybe that's part of the key to her popularity though. She makes you feel just a little as though you have to work for her acceptance, so she seems cooler than she really is.
@Eliza Grogan Yeah I do sometimes think that after Ellen came out and during that point in time with LGBT acceptance being what it was in society she just grew cold from the rejection. Because I've been there with my family at times. However, if that is indeed the case, it still doesn't excuse her behavior. I know it must have been tough, but you can't let it drag your whole positive and ability to trust in people again away. At least that's how I feel might be just one reason why she's so cold.
She cringes every time a guest hugs her! Then again, her superfans are ridiculous. I can't imagine crying due to meeting a celebrity, it's so embarrassing to watch.
The biggest thing that always bugged me was that she never seemed to listen to any of her guests. She'd ask a question and just nod until she could bring up an embarrassing picture of make a dumb joke. So irritating.
@Henry K. Hill i've always wondered how come that americans and europeans never realized how unfunny these hosts/comedians are, also never understood western ppl's love for Ellen, Her behaviour just signals bunch of red flags, always found her weirdly evil/uncanny in whatever ''good'' clips i saw of her. Modern lifestyle really killed ppl's instinct i guess. Now they are blind and cant make basic educated guesses about ppl, until concrete evidences slap them right in their face
When rich people like her talk about kindness they’re talking about kindness towards people in the same class as them, even if they’re war criminals, not people with less income.
Nah, dude. Mowing down Iranian civilians over oil, uh I mean, terrorism (even though they invaded the fucking wrong country) is just a difference of opinion! kindness and stuff!
I think Ellen was promoting general kindness and helping people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, but being a part of Hollywood or even just any higher socioeconomic position, it does change people and affect their views. They can becone out of touch. I've experienced it happen even from people that earn 200k a year. Even just bumping up to that kind of position changes people because it usually changes where they live and who they most often interact with, their hobbies etc.
@@ByeByeBelly true human mind is kind of fragile, out beliefs and intentions change. We might believe we're doing the right thing, that we're helping people when I reality we might just be delusional. It's really a fascinating topic. If u look at villian stories they always believe they're in the right, they start with good intentions and then things get out of hand and u have to force yourself to cross the line to get things done. If you're belief in your righteousness strong enough you might even edge on to insanity. Having a set of principles and whatnot doesn't help either since the same rules doesn't apply to every situation. Then how do u overcome this? Hmm interesting
Forcing Mariah Carey to tell everyone she was pregnant is so awful..... anything can happen in the beginning of the pregnancy, that's why so many people wait to tell loved ones, much less random strangers.
that’s exactly why SO many women don’t tell people they’re pregnant until at least the second semester. There is such a high likelihood of miscarrying in the first trimester.
The worst thing is that she knew what she was doing... Ellen has always used people as props rather than actually respecting them. She's a textbook manipulative, uncaring narcissist who literally only cares about herself.
The Mariah thing pisses me off so much. She didn’t need to egg her on about her pregnancy for views or make her drink champagne when she obviously didn’t want to.
i dont even know what the worst part is, that fact that she thought it would be okay to discuss live without asking mariah or the idea of pressuring someone you think is pregnant into drinking alcohol
@@MonsterTaming420 Ellen made Taylor Swift cry on air. Started pressuring her to talk about dating Zach Efron, and others. I think it was more about power than it was about some noble journalistic endeavor. Taylor Swift exists in a realm of fame where she is almost untouchable, but Ellen knew she was above her. You could even tell she was getting a sick thrill from it too.
That’s evidence of bad judgement, questionable boundaries and an annoying personality but doesn’t equal cruelty or being a shitty person in a larger sense.
Like even if she wasn’t pregnant, if someone doesn’t want to drink, don’t pressure them. It’s not silly and cute. But adding the pregnancy to the equation is even worse. As if Ellen just HAS to be right all the time.
Yeah, that was rather shocking. You don't do that to a woman for this exact reason, women don't reveal their pregnancy in the first trimester because that's when most losses happen.
To quote Drew Gooden, "if I had a nickel for everything a rich Hollywood celebrity turned out to be a bad person, I'D have enough money to be a rich Hollywood celebrity."
I feel like Ellen's joke of "now that I'm the 'Be Kind' lady I can't do anything rude ever!" would have been hilarious if she weren't accused of being rude and having a toxic workplace environment.
Anyone remembers how Ellen kept asking Taylor Swift about who she was dating, until the poor girl literally broke down and yelled "STOP!" ? Whether you're a fan of Taylor or no, she didn't deserve to been questioned in a manner more befitting of an Inquistion.
I most certainly do because I remember saying how much I didn’t care for TS as an artist but I most certainly respect her for how she conducts herself as an artist/celeb and as a human in general. I’ll be honest, I thought the same about Ellen because I didn’t know all the drama surrounding her, but in this exact moment you referenced I said to myself Ellen is not a good person….
I don't understand how Ellen can be absolved of employee mistreatment because "It's not her, it's the show" but then is allowed to take credit for the show's charitable work.
I'd assume most people feel the show/staff/producers etc are more in control of the charity events and the negative stuff but not sure. I'd imagine she felt like the happy performing puppet
I don’t see how she can be absolved of employee mistreatment or that it’s “the show” and “not her”. Surely you should have some level of involvement with your staff - of course you can’t control every single aspect (and especially not as you scale up) but you should at least have a general idea and be somewhat involved with your staff (see the secret boss type series of shows for example).
That's what did it for me with her. I cancelled her and never went back after acting like that with a disabled child who'd lost her home and was just such a fan; ifi by then started being wary of her but that one interview made me stop immediately.
That’s what almost everyone high up in her industry looks like and thinks like. They even despise the fact that they have to breathe the same air particles as us plebs.
I remember hearing a story from my grandma I'd need to ask her about for clarity on some details. But, I remember her saying that she and my aunt were both trying to get in to see the Ellen show live, and the process they described to do it (which they gave up on) to my recollection sounded like, the producers just sort of corralled everyone who wanted tickets into an empty warehouse or office building and started barking out rules like, how loud and enthusiastic to act when she came out on stage, all this stuff I don't exactly remember but it was enough both of them just left. Having a bad day or even several frequent bad days is one thing, but if it's true, and she had her staff enforcing weird draconian rules, that's something different.
When I first heard of Ellen as a non-American I had no clue that her slogan is 'Be Kind'. I would have never thought of that, as all the clips I've seen of her is her being obnoxious, belittling younger people or celebrities. IDK what's supposed to be kind about that.
As a non-American as well, one of the first clips I ever saw was of her making fun of young people, acting like they live on another planet and supposedly don't know what a phonebook and a map are. I showed my mom and she found it ridiculous and condecending as well, and she is 64.
I’m American and I wasn’t aware of her slogan either. Guess she forgot about it with how often she likes poking fun at ‘millennials’ for not knowing how to use shit like a typewriter. Yet if it was say a straight person poking slight fun at lesbians, they’d get destroyed.
Same, I was not able to watch many full episodes though. partially due to timing when her show aired where I live - but also because I hate pranks, like HATE them. because i get scared easily and I think people scaring you with what they know you are afraid of, is an absolutely horrible unfunny thing. And Ellen did this regurlarily. I have a couple of phobias, and that shit is no joke. but to see her have her guests on, know one of them had a clown phobia - and still had someone else dress as a clown and sneak up behind them as a "prank" just goes to show what kind of person Ellen is. She is a bully
Wow! Respect for the huge amount of work you put into this. Every ( eloquent, I may add) word seems to be carefully considered or written down beforehand, which makes this documentary even more impressive. I also appreciate that you not only portray one side or opinion on the subject, which is sadly done by many others. This is the base of good journalistic craft. Keep up the great work! *subscribed*
Even if Mariah didn't miscarry (which is why it's heavily suggested to not broadcast pregnancies until the second trimester aka the fourth month onward) it's still a skeavy and inappropriate act, and SUPER unprofessional.
@@kushio214 seriously, that’s not funny. Obviously you don’t care about strangers online, but maybe think before posting. I had a miscarriage after a year of trying to get pregnant. Now I’m pregnant again and the anxiety from the first time doesn’t go away. It’s hard to enjoy when you’re worried about experiencing the pain and loss.
I’ve said this before, but I’ve never really fallen for the Ellen “charm.” My roommates in college absolutely adored her, but I just didn’t and when they asked me why I didn’t, I wasn’t sure. Something just seemed wrong. They then accused me of being homophobic. Needless to say, finding out that there was something going on behind the scenes, I felt vindicated.
Something about Ellen always rubbed me the wrong way. I started feeling this way when I noticed her whole show was just her giving stuff away and being praised like it didn’t feel genuine
I started disliking her especially when she started making the "Millennial vs Baby Boomer" segments. She's just laughing at a random teenager for not knowing how to use a rotary phone. She's also really condescending.
I always thought she was mean without actually seeing her being mean to anyone, I barely saw few clips of her show without watching a single episode and she struck me as fake as shit. Later on I heard these stories... but that was years ago. Weird it got picked up now, her ex employes talked about her openly but nobody gave a fuck including me as I just assumed its probably the same in most shows like this one lmao
I remember, when people started saying that Ellen was abusing and harassing her talk show staff, my reaction was, "Well, yeah, of course she is. That's half the show." It was full of pranks, embarrassment, objectification, and bullying, on camera. The only surprising part was her tone-deaf apology, when she tried the pathetic excuse that she hadn't done enough to stop the toxic behaviour creeping in. No, Ellen, you brought the toxic behaviour, you orchestrated it, you initiated it, you normalised it. She's a sadist masquerading as a fun little comedienne.
@@pivotresearchfoundation Lmao I thought the same thing, this phrase has been around for soooo long, it's been used in so many different metaphors every day. It's the same energy as being in an interview and asked "What's your greatest weakness" and the interviewee responds with "my greatest weakness.. is that... i have no weaknesses" it's a good message to relay, but we can't credit a youtuber as DEEP because they took a quote off of the 10 most googled quotes of all time kek
Much less make it their brand... the best example of a pure and goodhearted person would be Princess Diana. And never once was she such a preachy blaggard about how important it is to be 'kind' and blah blah blah. It just came naturally to her, her sincere desire to help people showed through unlike Ellen. Ellen is the amalgamation of toxic kindness, at worst and synthetic kindness at best. She's been shown to be too insensitive on many occasions to be a truly mindful and kind person in my opinion... she's pretty much a feel-good instagram quote
When Ellen said she had been studying kindness, that sounded like the equivalent of saying “I have studied art for 17 years but I have never actually painted or drawn anything”
I always thought it was weird she wanted to be invited to Dakota Johnson's birthday, like they weren't even friends. I would never dream of berating someone for not inviting me to a party. Dakota Johnson is also like "Hollywood Royalty" , daughter of two famous actors, granddaughter of a famous actress, and it made me think that if Ellen could be so rude to her, then she probably is ruder to non-famous people.
It was meant as a joke and she looks like she knew Johnson could either laugh it off or clap back. Which was true, as we see Johnson have no problem setting her right. There was no imbalance of power there. And you can see that Ellen is truly embarrased by the facts. Her saying she was at a thing was over exaggerated to point out how she knew she messed up. She made herself look stupid to get a laugh and at the same time accept responsibility for the whole thing.

@@APoliticalConfusionAndMess while you’re right about people being dumb for those reasons, not every single milennial is like that, and i think the person was just talking about Ellen insulting millennials for not being able to use “outdated” things, like VHS tapes and older telephones.
Right? I was surprised when people where surprised she wasn't nice, I was like, she has never been nice. There are a lot of compilations of her purposely shaming and putting on the spot several guests and audience members, and just acts innocent, but keeps and keeps poking even when the person explicitly tells her to stop or even start crying and you do not see an ounce of compassion in her, like what happened with Ariana Grande. I mean even if it is scripted as some people say, even the persona wasn't nice, polite but not nice. Everything was always aimed towards trapping the victim into embarrassment for the audience to laugh at. She reminds me of the stereotypical noble, that is extremely polite and extremely rude at the same time.
@@APoliticalConfusionAndMess You are speaking on ALL generations with your examples. Also, how hypocritical you are calling millenials as a whole, dumb. I guarantee I could rattle off a whole list of things that you arent familiar with. How can you expect a young person to have knowledge on an utterly extinct method of technology? In fact, I know some 20 somethings that need mommy and daddy to set up drs appts for them or have no idea how to do the most basic of daily functions, but I dont lump all of you together as dumbasses.
Kindness can be very well in being harsh, its really more about caring, patience and acting on that. Yes unions are kind, not state run anyways. And she i man it could be a brand if it were entirely authentic. Also yeah the kindest people dont really see themselves as such, usually. They are more upbeat that they might have hurt someone, whichto be fair, is also a flaw. Getting some training being more confrontal, yeah might be good too. But thats usualy more likely in kind people, taking it more out on themselves and worrying.
Kindness is in the heart, not an action brought on through the brain. It's either there or it's not and I find people who bang on about kindness the most are often the ones lacking. We can all do fake niceness in front of an audience but being kind when nobody is looking is the true indication. Either you have, or you don't and a lot of these celebrities don't have it but pretend that they do because brand comes before genuinely being.
Observe her white clothing when she “apologizes”. The innocent, angelic, kind Ellen has entered the stage. She NEVER wears all white shirt and jacket otherwise.
Most people that know anything about influencing others wear white clothing when they apologize. This is normal. Look at the apology video of Mika and James Stauffer for example. White clothes and a white bed in the background.
honestly, ellen’s apology would’ve went a lot better if she addressed specific things. it would’ve shown her mindset behind it, and what she’s doing to change. that’s the issue with many apologizes, they’re too general, they don’t focus on the individual acts
one set of videos of ellen that doesn’t sit right with me are the segments with sofia vergara and “teaching her words in english” and you can see how uncomfortable vergara is because she KNOWS english, she just has a heavy accent. that was never funny to me. it was insensitive.
So true, thanks for saying that! English is my second language, but I speak it every day, enjoy reading, watching films, etc. So I often hear 'how do you know that word???' just bc I have an accent 🙃 accent doesn't equal poor vocabulary or not speaking the language lol

I' bet on that ! The crew is where you would go to find out how "kind" Ellen actually is....and the truth is....ELLEN I S N O T K I N D when the cameras are not running !
@peter barlow From what has been reported Peter, it seems to have been mostly, if not all, who were complicit in the fiasco that is the Ellen Show were upper management people. Many of the “regular” staff were fleeing their jobs or just trying to stay stay safe in a toxic workplace. 🤷♀️
My former boss once said to me "people misunderstanding me, they think I don't have much empathy, but I've got more empathy than most people" He was an abusive weirdo that happened to be an alcoholic. I've come to the conclusion that people who overtly announce that they have this 'high level' of wokeness about their emotions usually are completely unaware or are faking it.
It’s like a common theme of show don’t tell, where genuinely great and kind people like Bob Ross and Mr. Rodgers never went out of their way to tell you how nice they were, they showed it, they not only proved it but you could just feel how natural it is, because it is actually them. Others that go out of their way to say “Trust me, I’m nice, because I’m saying so” are generally not, just because well, I’m not sure why..it’s definitely curious but it’s most likely and unfortunately a mental or a lacking emotional issue. I do hope they’re able to get help, and those that are and were hurt by those people can find peace and are able to heal.
@@drew_xviii330 yea no kidding dudes like Ross, Rodgers and Burton are jewels of the PBS era actual kind people are rare and undervalued. Nasty people are the ones that make money apparently.
It's overcompensation. They know they lack it, so they try to convince everyone otherwise. Some people also are overly nice in public but horrible in private.
Lol i know you said usually, but i wanted to point out that for someone like me who’s autistic, having an overdeveloped & overwhelming sense of empathy has always been completely debilitating & therefore im sure i bring it up for various reasons from time to time - but on rhe other hand, my childs narcissistic father spent a lot of time telling & trying to convince people of what a kind & good hearted person he is,.. he’s overcompensating & insecure about who he really is & he’s desperate to have people see him as the hero or the victim rather than the monster he truly is, so I’d say it’s definitely a red flag - it actually comes off a bit differently when its coming from someone who’s faking it but i think it can be nearly impossible for outsider to know for sure without certain insight & perspective,.
True, but many people hate BuzzFeed; so when people hear: “BuzzFeed is terrible to their employees.” They don’t have the sugary sweet image that Ellen tries to push and therefore it’s no shock to them. In short if you’re working for BuzzFeed you should already expect it to suck; whereas with Ellen you wouldn’t. Not to mention one is a person and the other is a company.
My husband and I saw the same thing. You phrased it perfectly as bullying. Years later we accidentally caught an episode of her game show. We saw a sadistic, mean person but even more accepted by the audience. At that point my husband started calling her a cult leader.
Dude - she's an alpha female who takes no prisoners. The one who does not like it most likely has problems with self-esteem and is not capable of self-irony and black humor. Boring pathetic and weak twitter people who are easily offended and who want to cancel everyone, I feel sorry for you.
the mariah carey situation just makes me so sad... there’s a reason why most women wait until at least 10 weeks in to publicly announce their pregnancy - prior to that the risk of miscarriage is incredibly high. ellen outing her on live tv to the whole world is disgusting. she’s a terrible friend and an even worse person.
I first noticed her sadistic streak on her game show thing. There was some sort of evil gleam in her eye when she would execute penalties that shone through, very clearly.
Studying ? If she needs to study it that means she doesn't understand it, she's a sociopath with no empathy. Sociopaths study and replicate human emotions but they don't feel them.
I guess it's the history of her coming out and asserting being queer was okay coupled with people's love of Dory in finding Nemo creating positive association. The branding of being kind wouldn't be so frustrating if she wasn't constantly embarrassing and chastising people "for comedy"
I have two rules in life that have never failed me: 1. If someone talks about how much of a nice person they are... they are not a nice person. 2. If someone is always happy and smiling and you never see them in a bad mood, or down... they are hiding something really bad about their personality.
I never liked her show, but never thought she was much worse than other talk show hosts. I don't really feel sorry for what's happening to her, but I'm not rooting for it either. I don't know why everyone is so shocked to hear that she's not always nice. 🤷
bruhh sameee, when i first found out who she was i really wanted to like her because i'm lgbt but then i saw some clips of her and i was like "her jokes are super mean and give me second-hand embarrassment, why do people like her???"
I almost fell out of my chair when Ellen came on her show after Kobe died and talked about how devastated she felt but then thought it was important enough to mention he'd died on her birthday. She just had to let it be known...I think she might be a narcissist.
I get saying “I was so devastated” on social media or smth. However, when you go “me me my devastation” on a TV show, it has a funky taste to it. And bringing up her birthday just made that taste more sour.
@@kylebear8101 I think this means that she can't relate to others, only herself. This shows she is incapable of proper empathy and therefore ... make of that what it is.
I always thought that soooo funny prank on her show, where they scare the crap out of someone was mean at best. I've got a CNS disorder that means the adrenaline rush from being scared like that is excruciating. Knowing she'd scare me anyway and then everyone would laugh while I was in so much pain I couldn't see straight, well. None for me, thanks. I'm glad she finally got called out.
@@Loudshark_ ganted if luck and bless are real, or especially if people can give them to others. Monis are real on the other hand. (not defending Ellen btw)
When my brother and his wife were expecting a child they wanted to keep it amongst the immediate family in case things didn't work out. There's always the chance that there are complications and it's just simpler for everyone to keep everything contained. To force the issue on someone, like she did to Carey, is terrible. Ellen couldn't have known that Carey would suffer a miscarriage. Nobody could have known. That's why you don't fucking interfere.
I agree! You can also never know if the person maybe very recently suffered a miscarriage or whether they have been trying everything to get pregnant but nothing seems to work or any other issues surrounding pregnancies. It’s simply something you do not ask about, especially in front of an audience!
exactly. even when my family friend had a baby she asked people to not post about it until a couple weeks because you never know what could happen right after the baby is born. it’s less emotionally taxing when only a select group of people know what happened than if random people, and in mariahs case, probably millions of people she will never meet, know about such a personal part of her life.
She actually could have known. There’s a reason people aren’t recommended to announce a pregnancy until four months. Miscarriages in that time are not exactly “uncommon”. Especially people who have had multiple biological children. If Ellen used any logic at all she’d know to not out someone.
I think Elen Degeneres is a narcissist and actually believes she's a nice person and just being entertaining. If you've ever known a narcissist you'd know that they don't ever see themselves as the person in the wrong, even when it's blindingly obvious to everyone else. They also don't care about making people uncomfortable or hurting their feelings because they lack empathy for people and can't relate to other people's feelings, all that matters is them and whether or not they're happy with something. The whole "be nice to everybody" thing is just her own delusion, she doesn't see herself like the rest of us do. That's what I think anyway.
A father once told his daughter, notice how your date treats the server at dinner and those who can't do anything for him. In this regard it appears Ellen has failed miserably.
Also what she’s preaching isn’t kindness, it’s politeness. Politeness is surface level niceness you can be polite to anybody that’s easy. But being kind and compassionate means standing up against people who are hateful to others, esp vulnerable groups, (think standing up to someone who’s calling another person slurs). And not everyone can be kind.
exactly, she is friends with some of the most harmful people in recent history, that is not kindness, as you say getting along with them may be polite but it is also cruelty towards those who were hurt by those people.
standing up for someone else is just being self righteous and insulting imo, almost like acting as if that person isn't strong enough to protect themselves
@@gingermaniac5484 I guess so, doesn't really matter if it's a kid standing up for his or her friend. Bit if it's, for example, a white person standing up for a black person when someone calls them a slur, personally I'd be a bit insulted at the fact the white person seems to think black people aren't strong enough or capable enough to protect themselves. It's hypocrisy, and another form of racism in my book. It would be the same if a black person did it to a white person, it's just plain racism.
The Mariah Carrey pregnancy call out was the last straw for me. To call out someone's pregnancy in that manner is beyond disgusting. Mariah had every right to announce it on her own terms, and Ellen just not acknowledging that in the slightest breaks me.
I feel so bad for Mariah when Ellen pressured her into drinking champagne when she very clearly didn’t want to. She looked so uncomfortable and probably felt betrayed by Ellen for doing that to her. Such a traumatising thing to do to someone
I like that this wasn’t a straight-up hit piece on Ellen. I think it accurately showed how nuanced the situation is, and how nuanced Ellen’s impact is. She can be a “not nice” person and so detached from real people that she doesn’t care about how she comes across to them, and also have done a lot of objectively good and helpful things for people. Those things aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.
@Ambrose Delgado Of course I see Ellen for what she is - a hypocrite. But at the same time, I don’t believe that Erika Bee’s comment is making excuses for Ellen (since the comment by no means say that Ellen can and should get away with the BS she pulled). She has a point on TRO’s video that I happened to agree with - in a sea of meme comments it’s nice to see someone to acknowledge TKO’s ability to present a nuanced and coherent take on Ellen’s controversies, which is why I agree with this comment to begin with and appreciate. I want to add that the video doesn’t take away Ellen’s responsibility at all - it criticises her rightfully in relevant events. I hope I made my points clear.
At least Ellen was not the worst celeb out there. She is just kind of indifferent to other people unless she tries. You could do a LOT worse than that (Bill Cosby for example)
@@DarthVader-bd6dz OP's grandmother isn't to blame. The point of TRO's video was that a false persona is different from the person behind that persona. The grandma didn't know about the stuff going on in the background and I wouldn't think of her less of a person for enjoying a product. I never watched Ellen, and it would be like congratulating me and saying I'm a good person for not watching the show before everything came out. It doesn't quite work like that. The reason for a lot of the outrage is that people felt lied too, as I'm sure OP's grandma would've felt awful learning her favorite TV personality was a terrible person. *in case I misread you're comment: I agree, I'm also sorry that OP's grandma was lied. 😔

The same way parents can love their children or spouse more than any other human alive, but say and do things again and again that hurt them. Humans will never be 100% consistent on any one principle, law, idea, hope, dogma, etc.
@@yasminnegash3968 it’s kinda petty tho. It’s not like they were losing money on them. And there was likely some extra just for a margin of error. She probably shouldn’t have done it, but it was ultimately harmless. What is harmful, is humiliating someone on television for content.
LOL well more then that she just showed she is completely useless. The career is one thing. We need good role models , like kevin heart to admit their mistakes and not try to hide them. Arnold has so much charisma and persoanlity we all forgot he actually cheated on his wife with the made. I mean that is just insane but he was forgotten. Because he is genuine. I'm Dutch and I can honestly say the translation of the Dutch part is spot on, since grammaticaly there's some difference between Dutch and English the english translation has been 'simplified'.
Was looking in the comments for a response like this. I'm Dutch too and though some of the translation was ommitted (not all she said was translated), the broader lines of what she said were on point.
The thing is ultimately this will not really affect her! Once people forget and move on she’ll be making just as much money and will have the show back to what it was. She’s at a level of fame where it doesn’t really matter because she’ll always have a army of fans loyal to the end.
31:30 The reason Mariah Carey didn’t wanna tell the public she was pregnant because miscarriages are common before the 3 month mark so many women choose not the make the announcement until they have reached that mark, making it so much worse that Ellen outed her
With her being 51 years old. yeah she had a 50% chance of miscarriage... 3 times more likely of extremely premature birth.... doubles the risk for your child having birth disabilities, down syndrome, and birth defects. Remember girls, we have a small window to have healthy children.
@@starlingLee - Is it possible that a 55 year old female smoker, also obese, who even occasionally smoked heroin during her pregnancy delivers a very healthy infant, no noticeable issues from these risk factors affecting the baby, who then grows up to become a brilliant 'whatever' living healthily to 105 years of age? While another pregnancy that fits within your small age window from a mom who adheres to the healthiest of recommended diets and exercise, also while engaging in every potential neo-natal thing out there delivers a baby afflicted with disabilities, DS, and 14 toes in total dies night 2 of SIDS? Yes it is. Certainly probabilities of in a pregnancy change based on many lifestyle factors. Data is available to educate and help us and isn't up for debate. But your implication is that small window = healthy bouncing babies, which isn't factual.
@@starlingLee yeah 3 times more likely than a very small number is still a small number. Also 50% chance of miscarriage? I'm by no means an expert on pregnancy but that number reeks of BS.

The Mariah Carey thing was horrible; miscarriages happen a lot and many wouldn't discuss pregnancy openly until after the first couple of months. In addition, going out of her way to complain about chipped fingernails ... just wow; its clear "little people" don't matter.
Yeah... even more horrible that she miscarried... which was exactly why she didn't want to publicly announce the pregnancy until after the first 12 weeks, like a lot of women!
@uwu owo you know the reason that leftists are pro-choice is so that children aren’t forced to grow up in an unstable environment with an unloving parent who didn’t want them in the first place...
Like a month or so after, Mariah had to publicly announce that she had a miscarriage.... All because Ellen made her publicly announce she was pregnant earlier than she ever intended on doing.. If Ellen had never been so out of line Mariah wouldn't have had to announce her hurt to the world and would have kept that shit private. That makes me soo mad
Maybe Steve Jobs was an acquaintance and maybe once said something in passing to Helen like "You should really tell me anything you think could improve our products". And maybe he meant it or maybe not. Or, maybe Helen wanted some random reason to contact Jobs, because she really was hoping to bring about some business relationship whereby she wanted proceeds to go to underprivileged children with cancer. Or, maybe she thought he was hot and was the one guy she always dreamed about. We could all guess endless scenarios as to this one moment in the life of others completely foreign to us and guess in any fashion that could paint her in the light of a saint to that of shape shifting demon.

Same here!! I've always been VERY good at reading people for some reason and Ellen has bothered me since the 90s.

Not saying what Ellen did was right, but face it Mariah is far worse then Ellen ever was in how she has treated people,
@@corndogonasticc yeah me too, it’s like those sitcoms where they take away the laugh track and there are just no jokes or anything forcing you to laugh

Well if she treated her staff well and paid them during the pandemic and didn't cross no picket lines...

The whole branding is based on this "persona" there's was no way around it, we're human and easily perverted, it just got too far that's it

I never understood, that everyone thought she's this great people person. In the interviews she always looks like she doesn't wanna be there.
She had an evil and hatred in her eyes.
She cringes every time a guest hugs her! Then again, her superfans are ridiculous. I can't imagine crying due to meeting a celebrity, it's so embarrassing to watch.
I never looked at Ellen as nice. she’s always been sarcastic and passive aggressive
Dunno i like people owning that but being generally kind and just fierce. And not being union busters and cutthroats.

I think Ellen was promoting general kindness and helping people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, but being a part of Hollywood or even just any higher socioeconomic position, it does change people and affect their views. They can becone out of touch. I've experienced it happen even from people that earn 200k a year. Forcing Mariah Carey to tell everyone she was pregnant is so awful..... anything can happen in the beginning of the pregnancy, that's why so many people wait to tell loved ones, much less random strangers.
I know she forced her to basically tell the while world that's terrible
Yeah and then she miscarried and had to announce that publicly as well :/
Yeah that really pissed me off too. Way to respect someone’s wishes to remain private about a particular subject.
that’s exactly why SO many women don’t tell people they’re pregnant until at least the second semester.
That Larry King clip was so hard to watch. You could hear the pain as she tried to laugh it off.
i dont even know what the worst part is, that fact that she thought it would be okay to discuss live without asking mariah or the idea of pressuring someone you think is pregnant into drinking alcohol

She is a kind as magicians are magic. She's a performer, that's all.

@peter barlow From what has been reported Peter, it seems to have been mostly, if not all, who were complicit in the fiasco that is the Ellen Show were upper management people. Many of the “regular” staff were fleeing their jobs or just trying to stay stay safe in a toxic workplace. 🤷♀️

My former boss once said to me "people misunderstanding me, they think I don't have much empathy, but I've got more empathy than most people"
He was an abusive weirdo that happened to be an alcoholic.

I first noticed her sadistic streak on her game show thing. There was some sort of evil gleam in her eye when she would execute penalties that shone through, very clearly.
When Ellen said she has been studying kindness.
It sounds like she went to college for it, spent eight years for it and learned nothing.
haha!
You can certainly learn the psychology of kindness and fake it, as she proved.
Common Core, the worst education system ever forced upon us... now our schools keep turning out these ellen degenerates
It's odd when some people need to study kindness. It's just like they never know it since birth and it's creepy.
Studying ? If she needs to study it that means she doesn't understand it, she's a sociopath with no empathy. Sociopaths study and replicate human emotions but they don't feel them.
I always thought she was fake I’m not sure why everyone loved her.
I guess it's the history of her coming out and asserting being queer was okay coupled with people's love of Dory in finding Nemo creating positive association. The branding of being kind wouldn't be so frustrating if she wasn't constantly embarrassing and chastising people "for comedy"
Congrats, you're smart enough to see a manipulator when you see one. The people that watch her show are of the lowest IQ.
I have two rules in life that have never failed me:
She just had to let it be known...I think she might be a narcissist.
lol, you think? She REEKS of narcissism every time she opens her mouth.
That's like when people share a picture of their x, plant, dog, child, whatever, but the pic is mostly themselves
I get saying “I was so devastated” on social media or smth. However, when you go “me me my devastation” on a TV show, it has a funky taste to it. And bringing up her birthday just made that taste more sour.
Find me a celebrity or "----personality" who isn't a narcissist. Its like looking for a donut without a hole.

@Conrad Kujur Both of their kids are doing great. Both healthy and happy. Makes me jealous that I don't have any! :)

The possibility of which was undoubtedly the reason she didn't want it announced to the whole world?
Deny eye contact. The ultimate "you're not worthy," statement. Very telling Ellen.
My problem is when she gets on her high horse and acts like she’s better then everyone else when the truth is she’s just as shitty as the rest of us
exactly, she is friends with some of the most harmful people in recent history, that is not kindness, as you say getting along with them may be polite but it is also cruelty towards those who were hurt by those people.
standing up for someone else is just being self righteous and insulting imo, almost like acting as if that person isn't strong enough to protect themselves
I agree that standing up for someone can be self righteous, though I think there’s a spectrum, isn’t there?
@@gingermaniac5484 I guess so, doesn't really matter if it's a kid standing up for his or her friend. Bit if it's, for example, a white person standing up for a black person when someone calls them a slur, personally I'd be a bit insulted at the fact the white person seems to think black people aren't strong enough or capable enough to protect themselves.
