    CORRECTIONS:
    37:40 - We forgot the rule only 1 lair per player may be placed into a region. So Jessica should not have been able to place here.

      I wonder how much that would have changed the game and the fact she won? Maybe Johnathan would have won or at least been much closer. Mistakes happen 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Y'all were worried about some of the lone pack wolves getting dominated a little later in the game. You can circumvent this with positioning: since you can't have two pack wolves of different colors co-exist in the same hex, that also means you can't dominate any pack wolves that stick together. They can similarly be protected from domination by hanging around dens, lairs, and alpha wolves.

      You have a great point. This was the first time either of us had played, and I think the biggest thing we didn't leverage was stacking 2 tokens on spaces to defend against domination.

      @@JonGetsGames So far from what I'm learning I LOVE how thematic most of the rules seem! This was a very good playthrough, and good commenters!

    She had many well fed wolves. Her pack ate so well, she convinced some of your hungry pack to join her pack. Your wolves were few in number, but very tenacious, but also half-starved. Gotta bring down more game and stick together.

    It was a surprise to see Jessica come back to the channel after many years since the last video she was in. I think the game had to do with deckbuilding and digging in a mine for gems or something (forgot the name of it) to spend on new cards where we saw her for the first and only time. I guess her mind to come back for a 2nd game changed over the years or something.
    Anyway, I look forward to the next video in this series, and maybe one day, you can have a "playthrough with friends" video with 3-4 people in person.

      Sounds like Super Motherload

      Someday we may get 3 or 4p games in, but the studio doesn't have that much space which is why I'm sticking to 2p for now. And yes, Jessica was in the Super Motherload video many many years ago. That one was abit of an experiment at the time, and we didn't keep doing those for a long list of reasons. These days JGG is far better setup for this kind of video and it's been great having Jessica back in :)

    Thanks Jon. Great play through, nice to see a 2 player play through of this...as most of my gaming is 2 player this makes this game make sense...

    From the rulebook (pg.11): "You can only have 1 Lair of your color on each Region Board". I think there is a little mistake @37:30. Good video. I enjoy it.

      Good catch! I completely forgot about that rule while we were filming this, unfortunately. I've added corrections for this now, thanks!

    Your wife should play more often in your videos! I just purchased this today, after passing it by many times based on the look of the cover. I was thinking it was some dark brutal game. A friend got me to give it a second look, and I'm so glad I did. Thanks for the fun play-through.

    Well... this was honestly not my type of game anyway, so it feels a bit mean to rag on it for this but... the way wolf pack dynamics are wrongly depicted in this game is one of my pet peeves, so it gets a big minus from me for that. As I said I don't like this sort of game (area control in general really), but there's no need for it to perpetuate these false ideas. Maybe it depends on which parts of the internet you spend your time on how much this irritates you lol.
    For the record, real wolf packs in the wild consist of a breeding pair and their adolescent children. When a pup reaches adulthood it will leave the pack: this is a 'lone wolf'. Thus lone wolves do not tend to join existing packs - rather, they are looking for a mate to form their own pack with. Sometimes you do get larger packs consisting of multiple families, but this is very rare. And 'dominance', as alluded to in the game, does not happen in the wild at all, pretty much. The reason other wolves in the pack obey the 'alpha' is because he is their father, not because of dominance contests and similar behavior, which only really occurs amongst wolves in captivity.
    I mean, it's a game, it shouldn't bother me that much, but as I said it's a pet peeve. But then again, it didn't have to be about wolves did it? It could have been a fantasy game about fantasy creatures. They _chose_ to make it about wolves, and I think that comes with an obligation to depict those real animals with some degree of accuracy. And again, even _that_ wouldn't bother me nearly so much if _this particular wrongful depiction of wolf pack dynamics_ wasn't so widespread and harmful (c.f. the particularly toxic idea of 'alpha males'). But it is, and that makes me feel like this game is being irresponsible. I checked out the rulebook and it doesn't even have a 'by the way this is a game for fun but do be aware real wolves aren't anything like this' disclaimer, which I don't feel would be sufficient but would at least I think be _something._ Overall quite disappointed with this.
    Obviously most people wont care about this and that's fine. That's what makes it a pet peeve. I don't think anyone (even me) necessarily _should_ be bothered by this. But it does bother me.

    Very nice gameplay, this is a game I'm really interested in. I'm typically not a fan of area control style games but the tile-flipping mechanic seems very in my wheelhouse. I did notice one error in the setup, and I'm not sure if it was noted in Klingon, but the upper left region was supposed to have one neutral Lair and two alpha wolves, not two pack wolves. It didn't have any effect on this game, but it's worth noting that the AI has a strong way to break ties in that region, since it scores twice in the middle and at the end.

      Good catch! I think I'll not add a comment about this though, it's so minor and may end up confusing people. Thank you for pointing that out though.

    Jonathan should have let Jessica teach! 😂 Great tutorial guys,

  • @samanrahemi2199

    A reminder note @36:31would be nice since Jessica shouldn't have been able to Dominate using her rightmost desert tile that she had flipped by mistake during her previous turn @33:31. That way Jon could upgrade his forest den to a lair and heat up the competition for the quarter moon. although I think Jessica could still Dominate on her subsequent turn.

  • @marcovanderspek9476
    @marcovanderspek9476 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Seems like Jessica wins by a "huge" point difference of 16, but you could have won you the game by 'den on grass' followed by 'dominate mountain', replacing her packwolf and thus triggering end of game.
    In her last turn, she swung the game 22 points! 2 dens gave her 5 points, the lair gave her 5, she beat you in top left giving her 8 and losing you 4 (a 12 point swing) and you gave up on bottom right which bumped up her tie for 4 into a solid 8 (but that was on your turn so im not even going to count thosr points😂)

    Hey Jon, great video as usual 😊. I think you messed up your initial setup. There should be a Lair and 2 Alpha wolves (not pack wolves) near the 'Quarter+Full moon' space.

    It seems the game was decided at 28:00 when Jon failed to use one of his 3 moves to get his wolf out of harm's way. The "gotcha" factor seems strong with this one, and no real catch-up mechanism, don't make a good combination IMO

    Are the wolf boards double sided so you can put the wolf on the left or the right of the board? Edit: It looks like they are reversible to accommodate different player counts?

    I played this at PAXU and I remember something about needing to start on a central tile and opposite sides of a ravine. Has that changed? Or is it just not the case at two players?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a central ravine when playing with more than 2p, but at 2p you go with this specific map setup.

  • @ertai222

    Is the 2 player board set up the same every time?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, though the boards themselves are randomized.
