    I love how you do what you do, Jon. Such an enjoyable way to learn how to play a complex game. You pick scenarios and actions that teach the game in a progressive way that builds on itself logically. This game looks like so much fun, I can't wait to play it! Thank you.

    I've been excited to see this Kickstarter launch. Playthrough highlighted some of the juicy decisions you need to make and I can tell I'd enjoy this game. Waiting to see how the Fractal KS looks as sadly I doubt I can afford shipping for both games.

  • @Avyncentia

    Very interesting theme. I liked how the first round the Great Machine seemed pretty ineffective and then the tables reversed in the second round. One possible tactical mistake by the Great Machine--when they were moving guards around, they probably should have moved from the central square rather than the outer districts so that their servants would get more bonds when performing the central square action.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was so focused on other things which meant I don't think I moved the guards super well. Of course the less guards there are in Central Square the more benefit the Revolutionaries will get for doing an action there, so I guess you can use that to try and set a trap too as the Great Machine.

    Thank you for another great playthrough! I like the theme a lot! I would have preferred if there was an option to make it full cooperative, but i understand that creating an automa in a game like this is very challenging if not possible at all, due to the deduction part of the game. Said that i visited the KS page, and i am afraid, but i think the price point is a bit too high for the game it is., at least in my opinion. Minis were not necessary, standees would have worked great, saving some money. Excluding the Machine board, all the rest of components are standard. Without the mini could have been a game in the 40/50$ range in normal time, 50/60$ in this time where the transport cost from china skyrocketed.

    It seemed that the Great Machine is significantly more powerful. I suppose it makes thematic sense, but how does that work within the game? I wonder how that will turn out when it publishes.

  • @pixxelwizzard
    @pixxelwizzard 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    58:55 states it would cost zero trust to start a raid, but I think riot was meant, not raid.

  • @terrytoriq

    This game reminds me of a giant math problem. With a lot of confusion and backstabbing. It has an interesting balance, but I still feel like The Great Machine is a bit overpowered (which is the general problem of any 1 vs Many games). Also I have a problem with the visibility - very beautiful colourful tiles with a lot of components that… just blend in on them. And then… we have ugly grey minis. Shame.
    The progress board is gorgeous tho. I love it. ❤️ The theme is awesome! Definitely I was intrigued. But the feel is a bit clunky unfortunately.
    Also, I didn’t see any player aids or action summaries. If there aren’t any, that’s a lot of moves and details that each player needs to commit to memory. Or go through the playbook every 10 seconds…
    Anyway, thanks for the great play through. Awesome quality as usual.
    PS: BTW your videos may benefit from some more powerful lighting. Something to look into ;)

      City of the Great Machine went thorough extensive testing, and it’s a fact that the Machine and the Heroes have approximately equal win rate. The game favors the Great Machine a bit more, however this is not a significant advantage.

    In extremely rare cases, what if all three heroes forfeited their tower of law access cards at the beginning of the game, or otherwise lost them later; if the great machine kept taking other access cards away after that, eventually the game could not continue since none of the heroes could legally go anywhere

      @@JonGetsGames did a detailed read of the rulebook, and it says in the unlikely event that any hero loses all their access cards, the great machine instantly wins.
      The rulebook does say that this will never happen, though.

    Thank you for the video. I just have one suggestion please don't take this as criticism, I enjoy your videos very much. Please in your future videos, take time to thoroughly go through the rule book. Rehearse your playthrough a few times and access the rulebook if any doubt. This will eliminate any mistakes in your playthrough. Not pointing any fingers (Rhado) time after time early mistakes in recordings makes the remainder of the playthrough useless. You do a great job with your editing of mistakes but a clean playthrough is suburb. I know that this takes time and effort on your part but it shows us you care about your quality not like others (Rahdo) who are in it for just the money. Thanks again for all your playthrough videos!

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Making playthroughs like this is a surprisingly difficult thing to do, and we very often make them with non-final rulebooks. I spent a significant amount of time learning this game and asking questions to the publisher, honestly I spent ~50% longer making this video than I do for most. It wouldn't be viable for me to spend more time than this with full rehearsals, and even if I did that there is still a real possibility of a rules mistake still making it through. I have to admit that I can get frustrated when people compare my videos with Rahdo's when discussing mistakes. The two of us are aiming to make different types of content and we have leaned into how to do our way best. Rahdo's goal is to give you the feel of what a game plays like, and I know that when he gets a fundamental rule wrong that breaks that feel that he re-records his videos. That being said, you don't need full accuracy to get that feel and energy of the game and by him making videos the way he does he can spend his time discussing so many more games than others. I lean towards trying to give full teaches of the games and I really focus on getting the rules as correctly as possible, so my videos are more teaching focused than overall emotion and feel. This is tricky because mistakes do still sometimes happen, but I think most people understand that my videos aren't "real" playthroughs so some cheating and called out mistakes are fine since they are learning moments.
      I want to also strongly counter your financial assertion about Rahdo. Both of us are making content full time which means money is an important concern, but Rahdo is absolutely not in this "just for the money". He started charging for his videos long after many others, including myself, did and his passion for the hobby and his channel is plain to see with the astonishing number of games he covers. If he was just doing it for the money you'd see far far fewer videos from him. Honestly if anyone is "just doing it for the money", I'd say the finger should be pointed at me because for the past couple years 100% of my playthroughs have been either sponsored by publishers or Patreon supporters.

      @@JonGetsGames We agree to disagree about (Rahdo) but his declining numbers tells the story. Continue to make good tutorial playthroughs weather you get paid or not. Ugh. I'm not usually one to jump in on these sorts of things, but this comment really rubs me. @Freddie Christian If you have been watching Jon and Rahdo for awhile now, you would know what Jon is talking about. By asking Jon to "take time to thoroughly go through the rule book" is really off putting for me because he scours these rulebooks and even helps improve them for game publishers by asking questions, making suggestions and providing feedback to poorly worded or arranged rulebook content. Next to Rodney (Watch It Played), I'm not sure anyone reads, explains and demonstrates the rulebooks as well as Jon. Doing rehearsals would halve his content output and as for me, I want MORE videos from Jon in his tutorial + play demo explanation style. Additionally the point of Paulo (in Rahdo's videos) and Jon's Klingon subtitles are to rectify any misleading events or explanations in the playthroughs. Lastly, I also don't like the 'in it for the money' comment as its clear that this is not just a means to an end of being rich. They are genuinely passionate about board games and I think you kind of have to be to be doing what they do for over a decade. Rahdo still has a whole lot of subscribers/views/likes that most content creators wish for and there are a TON of factors that go into 'declining numbers' such as the entry of Twitch, a plethora of content creators (who btw, come and go a dime a dozen, but many do NOT remain for more than a couple of years), the sheer quantity of games being produced (spread of coverage), and of course TH-cam's ever changing and mystery algorithms. As you said... I agree to disagree with you.
