I got into this band in early 1978, I see how these three men are so humble, and are not full of themselves. I cannot thank these guys enough for the great music that they have made, and the inspiration of just being regular guys. How awesome is that. They don't think they are better, than anybody else. Just awesome people. THANK YOU RUSH for every inspiration you have given us.
This interview was before The Garden was written. Interesting quote at 3:45 is how Neil comments on "a measure of life" is how successful you are with family and friends as well as all the other stuff...
I want that screen saver!! Btw, JR has a bit of history with the band; one of the few interviewers that knows the band without studying copious notes...so, kinda' layoff, would ya'
I love Rush! I've followed their music for a long time. Their music touches me and I think they are such great musicians. They are simply great guys. I am proud that they are Canadian!
Great interview, I hope for those that don't know Rush that well, that your somewhat inspired just listening to this amazing trio talk about their journey past & present. They are truly maturity in rock & roll.
Rush is the greatest band of all time and I am proud to say my first show was 9.18.83, opening night at Radio City, I was 13 and have been in love ever since.
I have been listening to RUSH and going to their concerts for over 30 years and I have been fascinated over and over by their philosophy, their professionalism, their down to earth goodness and their exceptional talent. Don't get me wrong, they are still human, but they can handle this interviewer's ineptness without any problem...TO RUSH: LIVE LONG AND PROSPER. sorry to quote Spock!
Roberts used to work for Much Music in Canada, he has known this band forever. His time with MM he was known as JD Roberts. He was one of the original VJ's with MM I think.
Great to see Neil Peart back giving interviews and looking like his old self again.. He is the greatest drummer I have ever seen. Rush are fabulous musicians. I saw them 30 years ago and they are still brilliant today.
I am so pleased that one of the best bands ever, are proud Canadians we are so pleased that they stayed in Canada and state humble. You will occasionally run into one of them around the city, Alex and I frequent the same music store in a town north of Toronto and he will always find time to answer a few questions or maybe just an autograph, although I would never asking for one. How Canadian is that!
OMG!! Neil was in Arkansas. That's where I live now. If I would have seen him out somewhere I don't know if I could have controlled myself. I LOVE RUSH!!
Meaning? WOW - Neil has written some of the best poetry (Lyrics) existing, with a stand-alone value as classic literature on its own merit, outside of being a phenomenal drummer; not to overshadow the two musicians he had the tremendous luck to saddle up with - meaning? - what a gimme question.
:O why didn't you stop in Arkansas!?!? we LOVE you!!! we are "patiently" waiting for you guys to come here :) trust me it will be the best crowd...EVER!!! :)
I always liked Alex as a guitarist. He is one of my favorites. But via youtube, I realize how funny he is. Now he is one of my favorite comedians as well. If he ever loses one of his arms to an alligator on a golf course in Florida, he will always have a career in comedy to fall back on.
If John Roberts had done his research he would have known how private Neil is and steered clear of the whole subject. Hurts my heart to see the look on Neil's face.
totally agree, i wish interviewers would just respect the bands and Neil's need to keep that to themselves. really, the boys should simply say 'next question' and refuse to get drawn in.
yeah you could see that they all tried to move past that part of the questions its a subject that needs no talking about let it alone John RUSH is by far one of the greatest ever
@fanofgerryb - they and he respect and like John, who've they've know for years - I hope Neil will write a book about that "dark period" and help others deal with losing love ones ~
Yeah fair enough, but it's well documented that Neil shied away from press BEFORE that part of his life so as people have said he should have known under no certain terms to touch it. I mean this guy apparently knows the band....he should have known, I think.
40-17 lol. Thanks, and for all the whining, JD Roberts is an old friend of the band, every question would have been OK'd, they didn't do anything in this video they didn't want too.If you see Geddy being very personal, it is because HE WANTED THAT. No other reason. Haha, just hear Alex says he enjoys playing with his GrandKids, Lol. Rush are grandpas now. Love IT.
@gorillabelly1 You mean the lead guitarist likes to bravely stand up for his son, who was being attacked in a blatant case of police brutality - Alex never hit ANYONE, he GOT HIT, AND TAZED as he quite naturally just tried to wrest his son from an abusers hand.
John Roberts wasn't so much a dick in touching on Neil's personal tragedies. It's clearly of interest to fans. Where Roberts erred is not discussing the ground rules with Neil prior to the cameras rolling. It's clear the topic turned sour almost instantly and obviously no prep or considerations were put into the line of questioning. This casual approach might have something to do with Roberts history with the band that goes back 30 some years when John worked in Toronto.
I personally didn't think it was bad that John brought up the dark times for Neil because he has had history with the band from back in the 80's and probably thought Neil would be comfortable enough to discuss some aspects of it!!
rush is the best rock group around, with respect to u2. u2 has not maintained the continuity or quality from cd to cd. i mean one counterparts v europa or pop. agree?
As rare as it is to score an interview with these guys involving Peart..this complete tool Roberts epically fails and completely does what results in the reason Peart never wants to do these interviews to begin with. After just now reading(little late) Ghost Rider, this was painful to watch. Long Live Rush.
'has their life had meaning'?, are you freeking' joking, these guys are THE most influential people in my life and i'm sure thousands of other people
Rush is a classy, sophisticated band. They are so polite and respectful, unlike many youngsters these days.
Great band, and very down to earth guys. Saw them many years ago in 1980-81, played a great show, and at the time I didn't know that much about them.
Part one was amazing, so many smiles and great mood. He brings up the dark years and now brings up their age, what a horrid choice of questions.
I got into this band in early 1978, I see how these three men are so humble, and are not full of themselves. I cannot thank these guys enough for the great music that they have made, and the inspiration of just being regular guys. How awesome is that. They don't think they are better, than anybody else. Neil is a beast. Late 50s, and still killing drum sets... he's in great shape!
This interview was before The Garden was written. Interesting quote at 3:45 is how Neil comments on "a measure of life" is how successful you are with family and friends as well as all the other stuff...
Every time I find an interesting interview or any video about Rush I learn something new.
These guys, without a doubt, are the Best at what they do, Professors, all three are truly amazing....
Well I can certainly say that Neil and the boys have inspired me in my life... and I get to pay that inspiration forward. thanks Gentlemen :)
I want that screen saver!! Btw, JR has a bit of history with the band; one of the few interviewers that knows the band without studying copious notes...so, kinda' layoff, would ya'
Miss the Power Hour on Much Music with JD Roberts...
So grounded,great guys
Neil you were one of the best drummers r.i.p,and a great lyricist
Rush is the greatest band of all time and I am proud to say my first show was 9.18.83, opening night at Radio City, I was 13 and have been in love ever since.
"3 hours of playing with this band is like running a marathon and solving equations at the same time..." haha I love neil.
Amazing interview!!! Genuine guys! So refreshing!!! Excellent!!! RUSH!!!
The majestic trio...thank you guys...thank you Canada.
Roberts used to work for Much Music in Canada, he has known this band forever. His time with MM he was known as JD Roberts. He was one of the original VJ's with MM I think.

...three hours of drumming with this band is like running a marathon and solving equations at the same time...'
brilliant quote by Peart!
Amazing guys. THANK YOU RUSH for all the years of incredible music!
It really doesn't get any better than this.
Inspirational? Man! The opening quote of my first book is a fragment of New World Man's lyrics! Thank you guys, especially Neil!
This interview happens because John Roberts is a huge fan..His questions are right there
OMG!! Neil was in Arkansas. That's where I live now. If I would have seen him out somewhere I don't know if I could have controlled myself. I LOVE RUSH!!
Most gracious and cool guys in rockstars
The best there ever has been and the best there ever will be.
The best bands, the best artists, the best anybody lasts because of personality and character. Rush = character.
There's a real sweet nerdiness to Neil.
what a bunch of great guys. love rush!
neil! welcome out of your shell! Eloquent, sincere, precise and open - cheers
those glasses are eating up my face, haha i busted out laughing at that one
Neil Peart, the greatest explorer of our time!!!
legend´s of rock and class acts!
it's a huge part of the band's history. touching on it should be expected. he did push a bit, but heil handeled himself like a pro.
Meaning? WOW - Neil has written some of the best poetry (Lyrics) existing, with a stand-alone value as classic literature on its own merit, outside of being a phenomenal drummer; not to overshadow the two musicians he had the tremendous luck to saddle up with - meaning? - what a gimme question.
I love how at the 3:50 mark Neil is quoting a lyric from the new LP.
absolutely, 7:40 goes for everything, don't let old age stop you from doing what you love and keeping healthy.
Neil's just lucky he's not talking to Piers Morgan.
:O why didn't you stop in Arkansas!?!? we LOVE you!!! we are "patiently" waiting for you guys to come here :) trust me it will be the best crowd...EVER!!! :)
Neil knows the meaning off life. The are all great guy,s.thumbs up for Rush.
8:33 that's Howard Ungerleider chilling out behind John Roberts.
" Seeking a fourty foot pie" -- > Mr . Alex -FUCKING EPIC- Lifeson.
@Vatch1966 I had to look that up because I couldn't believe it, but by God you are right. Wow, do I feel old now.
I always liked Alex as a guitarist. He is one of my favorites. But via youtube, I realize how funny he is. Now he is one of my favorite comedians as well. If he ever loses one of his arms to an alligator on a golf course in Florida, he will always have a career in comedy to fall back on.
Rush should come to Penn State and play the Bryce Jordan Center!!!!!!!! i've seen em four times but never in an arena like that...
If John Roberts had done his research he would have known how private Neil is and steered clear of the whole subject. Hurts my heart to see the look on Neil's face.
Great musicians they are the best to me personaly!
Im in Mid Teens. Cant believe ive only met one dude...well dudette who also likes them
Amen!!!!
For a guy who doesn't do many interviews when he DOES do one Neil just goes and goes!
totally agree, i wish interviewers would just respect the bands and Neil's need to keep that to themselves. really, the boys should simply say 'next question' and refuse to get drawn in.
heroes.
yeah you could see that they all tried to move past that part of the questions its a subject that needs no talking about let it alone John RUSH is by far one of the greatest ever
this guy goes way back with the band
Nice to see Neil all chatty : )
couldnt have said it better !
8:50, Geddy says it just like in Different Strings!
Thumbs up if you would love to spend a day with these three amazing guys. :)
Look at them Glasses eating my entire face LOL I laughed so hard
"Sinking a fourty-foot PUTT", Numbnuts.
I wonder if they required Roberts or a Canadian to interview them in Atlanta? They rarely do US interviews.
How true
oh yeas he is
@theothertroll he did....its' called " ghost rider : travels on the healing road "...it came out in 2002...
JD Roberts can just listen to The Garden for his meaning of life question.
I so want to do Alaska to Tierra del Fuego!
Great Interview Rush is great!! .. but John Roberts ... He should have been a politician.
Hahaha! Alex: I'm trying to play the "Best (that) I Can".
@fanofgerryb - they and he respect and like John, who've they've know for years - I hope Neil will write a book about that "dark period" and help others deal with losing love ones ~
Hey Neil !!! Let me finish my answer !!!
Hard to believe Neil will turn 60 in September.
Yeah fair enough, but it's well documented that Neil shied away from press BEFORE that part of his life so as people have said he should have known under no certain terms to touch it. I mean this guy apparently knows the band....he should have known, I think.
6:33 nice glasses geddy, but your a great bassist
I would crap my pants if Alex was my grandpa
Love IT.
Neil at 5:11 = spot on Tom Brokaw.
I swear I don't think the questions are inappropriate... makes a real interesting interview. sorry. RUSH RULES
those glasses....
God bless England lol ... Spitfires and Hurricanes !!!!

:O imagine bieng lifesons grandson or daughter haha
I personally didn't think it was bad that John brought up the dark times for Neil because he has had history with the band from back in the 80's and probably thought Neil would be comfortable enough to discuss some aspects of it!!

Long Live Rush.
@cfx5000 This journalist is indeed quite silly with certain lines of questioning. Nevertheless these master musicians handled it well.
Cool Canadians eh.
Rush PWNs noobs
Roberts asking silly questions. I am sure you got the interview because your Canadian. Now got a real silly job asking stupid question to Trump.
Maybe he did his research and was just being insensitive, who knows :)
I have always been inspired by Rush, they have not wasted their lives... quite the opposite.
amen
