    Power Windows has always been my favorite Rush album. Every Rush album has its place, but Power Windows has such a big, richer sound.

      And Hugh syme did his master work for that cover. I shouldn't say master work I've never seen his full catalog

    One of the best albums EVER recorded. It's sublime. The music, performances and production are incredible.
    Everyone who says 'too many keyboards' should just listen to the bass lines and guitar solos on this record. Out of this world.

      ZX7 -RR the effects used on the very new sounding synths were an atmospheric extravaganza. Ditto for the sounds Alex and Neil achieved. Clever use of reverbs propel the synths into large atmospheric soundscapes and some good sequenced synths that have a very musical rock feel. I was 16 and aware of rush, just got a new casio cz101 and played this album everyday, still one of my favorite albums by anyone. Very good album to learn a little rock theory on, much like Moving Pictures was for guitar.

      2-year late reply, but as David Lythgoe said the Power Windows album did have Andy Richards playing additional keyboard parts. Geddy still did most of them though. Richards also played additional keyboards on Hold Your Fire. But live Geddy played all the keyboard parts.

    There was something about the majesty of the melodies on PW and GUP. A LOT of the older folks didn't like those records, but..."Between the Wheels", "Marathon", and "The Manhattan Project" were absolutely ethereal and amazing.

    I just can't believe it, THANKS for posting this wonderful material, I used to spend hours during my high school days watching the GOOD OLD MTV always expecting to see a Rush interview, specially during the Grace U. Press. and the Power Windows era which to me it was a very special era and a beautiful one as part of my youth, and I had never seen this ! Mark Goodman and the lovely Martha Quinn talking about my favourite band, 500 characters are not enough in order to desribe this beauty CHEERS!

      His voice was definitely changing back then, though. He couldn't sing the stuff from albums like 2112 like he used to. On the other hand, his voice actually got stronger in some ways. He was a better singer, but just didn't have the range to wail like a banshee any more.

    Trippy how Rush was in their new wave/synth era and MTV keep using the OG pink logo from their incarnation stage. You'd think they'd use the newer sleeked GUP era logo. Cool how the logos were always representative of their current sound.

    Haha. I still think of Grace Under Pressure as "New" Rush.
    I remember trying to believe that the Rush who did Grace Under Pressure was the same Rush that did All the Worlds a Stage.

    Second Rush show for me. Thursday Jan 9, 1986, Pensacola Civic Center w/ Steve Morse opening. Never forget at the start of the solo in CTTH, Alex broke a string, and literally threw his guitar like 10 feet toward stage right(where someone caught it) while another guy ran out with a new guitar. Never missed a note, if you blinked you would have missed it, how Neil and Geddy saw and knew just where to double back to the exact spot was just unbelievable.

    Power Windows is an absolute masterpiece, which founded a keyboard-based new genre of music, that was being baked from Signals album. Today, a huge number of bands, like russian masters The Gourishankar, are based exactly on this genre.

    @duder6666 I think you're right, music is for the most part completely disposable now. I think that's why bands don't last as long either. I guess I'm old but I just can't bring myself to buy mp3s for example. To me, enjoying the album art, reading the lyrics and credits (especially on Rush albums) and actually having to take care of something physically is/was all part of the experience that made it seem more valuable. Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying all the Rush vids I put up.

  • @xxxx15us
    @xxxx15us  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally. I don't want to piss off anybody so I won't give specific spoilers but for those other Rush fans who love Power Windows and the 80s era in general you're just going to be in awe of the new setlist. If someone had told me before tonight (the opening show) I just wouldn't have believed it. Seriously, there's no way to over-emphasize how much 80s stuff they played. That'll anger a lot of people but it's almost all 80s and the new album and very few tired standards which makes me happy!

    No problem, it's an easy assumption to make. I didn't even realize until a few years ago that when Rupert Hine produced Presto and Roll the Bones that he played a bit of keys on those as well. In the early days Hugh Syme was also on a couple things. It's not like it was all done for Geddy though, he's still the principal keyboard player on those albums. Thanks for watching!

    They always alternate between a more greatest hits tour, which was the previous one R30, and ones where they get to have fun and play stuff that they like, which is this tour. Always have a blast seeing them even if it isn't the radio hits, and hearing Grand Design almost 30 years after seeing my first Rush concert (power windows tour) was fantastically awesome.

  • @rushtabconvideo
    @rushtabconvideo 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice upload. There is some live Power Windows tour footage there that was shot so it exists *somewhere*! I wonder if that was shot by MTV or some local news? That tour would be great to have a Pro-Shot concert found and released or even if they just shot a song or two, it would make a great bonus for an official Rush DVD/Blu-ray release such as the Time Machine Release later this year or next year after the upcoming concert filming.

    @xxxx15us Album art... credits... lyrics... I couldn't agree more. Downloading songs/albums is simply soulless.

    Wow. Thank God people recorded random stuff on MTV.
    This was the 1st tour I saw them on when I was 18.
    Got all the VJs on here!

    I've learned to appreciate singing in mixed voice - and sometimes - when no one is around - i know you are not supposed to imitate actual voice - but this interview is a good watch for getting his interview voice down, then sending it into mixed voice with a little compression and voice distortion - then playing Big Money - hitting the B4s after watching this/getting his talking voice down makes a difference when trying to imitate (on the rare occasion) - its fun

    Thanks again! I would have replaced all these videos with watermarks by now but I'm having trouble getting the full version of the software I need. It will be done, though, it bugs me as much as it bugs you guys. But at least for now it's here so people can see it. The watermarked stuff is all from ancient VHS tapes that I had to digitize and rip and edit, etc. Check out the 1987 Rush Hour doc on my channel among other things, I'll bet tons of Rush fans have never seen some of that stuff.

    Geddy talks about something called floppy disks at 3:10. Wow! I remember those. What's with the beaver pelt on Geddy's head?

    Power Windows Tour was so great. IT was tlike the new era of Rush after the Moving Pictures-Grace Under Pressure era...freshly evolved....and theyve done it every few albums.
