  • We decided to not spend 500-600 dollars on a steering kit and opted for the 190 ebay kit.

    Good shade tree mechanics and a good deal ! If all is well after a season of wheeling it's a keeper 👍

    I never could understand how some companies can charge 5 or 600 for this kit

    Just bought a similar kit off eBay, arrived today and can’t wait to install on my 96 XJ! How is your kit holding up?

    • @mittenmotorsports
      @mittenmotorsports  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They have held up fantastic, we wheel the piss out of both jeeps and they take a beating. The heims have definitely gotten a little loose over the last year or so but they are in mud, water, snow, sand etc.

    Do you think the knuckles could be drilled with just a plain Ole 5/8 bit?

    • @mittenmotorsports

      Yeah if you can drill straight. Should be no problem

    Did you ever have death wobble?mine was doing it after we went offroad and i installed this kit still doing it might have to hook up a steering damper

    • @mittenmotorsports
      @mittenmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว

      It did have some slight death wobble at higher speeds but it’s been decent so far. A good alignment helps and making sure all the moving parts have good bushings, joints etc.
      I just ordered a kit for mine from eBay and have ran into a ton of trouble with it. I went from no death wobble to this thing is a nightmare to drive. Plan on putting together a vid about it and what solves it later on.

    How is it holding up? I just order my cav fab kit almost tempted to cancel my order and buy the eBay kit

      Well we beat the piss out of it Saturday at holly oaks, where we broke the steering last time and it held up great. Even went up the same hill we broke it on last time and nothing happened. I don’t think we will ever have steering problems again. Unless we blow the gear box out.

    Did you use misalignment spacers on the tie rod heims? Or do they just get bored straight to the knuckle

    • @mittenmotorsports
      @mittenmotorsports  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On this particular kit the misalignment spacers were used on the drag link, the tie rod however had smaller heims with washers.
      The Chinese kit I bought for lock jaw used misalignment spacers for both drag link and the tie rod. So there was misalignment spacers on the pitman arm, too and bottom of passenger side knuckle, and on the bottom of the driver side knuckle. Only reason I did this was because they did not send me the right size heim joints for the tie rod and we had a trip coming in a few days. So far both kits work good.

      @@mittenmotorsports thanks for replying back, I bought the same style eBay kit for my xj, only came with 4 misalignment bushings for the drag link, but what I was understanding is the tie rod doesn’t use them but they sent me 3/4” dia Heims but bolts are only 5/8”, so I ordered reducer bushings, should be here tomorrow, I don’t want to use misalignment bushings and even lower the tie rod more towards the ground. I want to keep it up as high as possible. Just curious how you did it, was trying to pause and zoom in on the video before commenting, couldn’t notice in the video.

      Yup must have been the same kit I ordered for the other jeep. I was disappointed they didn't send smaller heims for the tie rod. Oh well. @@chevytruckk3479

    How has this held up? Does it feel more stable on road?

    • @mittenmotorsports
      @mittenmotorsports  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It has held up great. He has pounded that jeep off rocks with 15.5 wide tires and it hasn’t even budged. As far as death wobble goes it does occasionally get some bump steer(minor death wobble) at higher speeds(45-50) but these are dedicated trail rigs that have never had a real alignment. With a real alignment and a good stabilizer I would be confident with this steering. Heims do wear out fast on daily drivers though so keep that in mind.

    Hows it handle?

    • @mittenmotorsports
      @mittenmotorsports  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Handles good, some times you get a little wobble but I don’t suspect the steering is the culprit. Probably more the front end geometry and/or worn bushings/ball joints.
