itd be a good idea to have multiple color rocks or objects in its tank so the octopus can display often. ive only been diving around them, but its amazing to watch them move from rock to rock and changing their colors
Hey Joe! I know you've done your research, but you're gonna want to increase the number of hides for your octos. They like to den up and the more "clear" space the more nervous they will be. Keep it low at first for checking health, but once they are okay slowly add more materials: rocks, scallop shells, so on. The more they feel like they can tuck away, the more active they will be and the more they will explore. Plus small objects they can tuck around double as "toys" and enrichment. My dad used to work with these little guys when he did marine surveys and I love how clever they are, but those smarts can lead to boredom and paranoia, so just be sure to give them lots of stuff to climb on/under and play with!! Love the video and I hope these guys do well!!
i was just thinking that i hope/assume that Joey will add more stuff for them to interact with as they get bigger. i worry about boredom leading to attempted escapes and possibly injuring themselves.
I know very little about fish and nothing about octopus but this tank seems less than ideal right? I'd imagine you'd want to mimic their natural habitat vs this bare, all white set up. Especially for a creature that loves to hide. Reminds me of the all white rooms that make ppl go crazy.
100% agree with you. these are incredibly sensitive creatures and so smart. that tank looks like it’s purely made for his own satisfaction and not the octopus :/
You should totally volunteer and get permission to film. Getting a weekly fish store video would be really cool, and the lighting quality and setup would understandably be different and less work for you. IT would be like a weekly vlog of an awesome fish store from a fish celebrity
He would jus be volunteering, so how would that take away a job for someone in need? The mans said theyre HIRING, which means theres a job available. Volunteering could mean more flexibility & not a sole commitment. Im sure they would stiill be hiring if Joey volunteered.
And there's a good chance more people would come out to the shop if they knew they could actually see Joey on certain days. Seems like it would be mutually beneficial.
I was just going to post that. Some people I know who have kept them in the past gave up because they just couldn’t keep them contained in the tank. They seem to get out of the tiniest opening. I’m sure Joey is aware of that and has a plan (hopefully! 😂)
Yes Joey! This is the content we love to see!! It would be super cool if you got another octopus and documented their breeding process also just a thought 🤔
Awesome! Just make sure that tank is Fort Knox secure. Octopi can squeeze through anything the same size or bigger than their beak, and they’re super smart, smart enough to find a way out. And the beak is super tiny on that little guy. So literally no holes or gaps. There’s a story about an aquarium that had noticed the fish in their tanks were slowly disappearing without a trace. Eventually they figured out the octopus was climbing out of his tank at night, travelling to other tanks, catching and eating fish, and returning to his tank before anyone noticed. Super smart and better escape artists than Houdini. I’ve seen a video of a huge octopus escaping a boat back into the ocean by squeezing through a hole that was like an inch in diameter.
This is a great video. Your excitement over new fish is contagious! I think anyone who raises an Octopus is pretty brave. They are the ultimate escape artist.
Totally volunteer Joe. I used to work in a fish shop and it was the most rewarding job I have ever had. To help peoples i to the hobby by giving good advice and them returning with success is a great thing to be part of.

I've been watching your channel for years! I think since back in 2016 you inspired me to start keeping fish again and made it so much more then your first childhood pet! It's what lead me to make a community take in my grandmas room after she got sick it made her think of home and I fell in love with the Octopus then and now to see you having one I'm super excited! Awsome!!!! I'm glad you're doing sharks again!!! I had a bamboo and she unfortunately passed 9 days later but I'll get another and try keeping it alive. 😊
Joey, Just and advise from someone that has raised sharks in captivity for research, their survival rate goes from 40% to 95% if you suspend the eggs from a monofilament instead of letting them lay on the bottom. This way you increase the surface area for gas and waste exchange. Bamboos are strong, they can make it anyway, but the suspension method is the closer to their natural anvironment.
Flippin Phenomenal video! The shot of the eggs at 19:13 mind blown 🤯 Can't wait to watch these eggs grow, and see the Octopuseses solve puzzles and devour crabs! #JoeyforPM

That is the most amazing thing I'm going to look into getting one myself now cheers to you Joey and I can't wait for the next videos to come out about them and the baby sharks
Wow Joey they are amazing. I always love the ocean and all the animals in them they amazing. I’m so jealous right now. Can’t wait to see them swimming around the tanks. Awesome job
I've managed pet stores for most of my working life and I LOVE it. It's really, really hard but I love being immersed in other people who can't wait to talk about their animals and enclosures.
If you find the time to volunteer once a week I believe you'll find yourself super happy being around fellow fish friends and you can share more knowledge right there as new people are getting into the hobby
joey question: if you put the shark eggs into each of their own tupperware and put a single pores rock in each of them with the egg, will they not attatch them selves to the rock??? then you could mark the rock and make it easier to ceem them in place in the tank. LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING, so excited :D
I think volunteering would be very rewarding for you as a creator, being able to step outside the screen and directly help people hands on seems like a cool change of pace.
Incredible Joey, I have always wanted an Octopus. If anyone can provide a healthy environment for both the octopi and the sharks it’s you. I can wait for your next video! You rock!
So my question is, in their natural environment, do shark eggs move or are they disturbed as much as they are in preparation of keeping them in captivity? Some sharks, for example, have to maintain an upright position in order to breathe properly. Can we apparently assume it is okay to move the eggs around prior to hatching?
Hi, I was wondering if you would mind making a video that would explain different between canister and sump filtration? And which one would fit the beginner. Thanks, love your content.
from having octo for years. they need a place to hide now that they are in a new tank. place a few big rocks so they and hide. if they start missing the tips or breathing hard, they are eating themselves out of stress. good luck , can wait to see the red octo grow up

Sure we would like to see them released into the tank...but...it is infinitively more important for the health of the animal to do it the way you are. So I TOTALLY understand. Best of all results to you!!!
