May she have a full recovery. Amazing community, with an amazing 5th grade hero. We need more news like this. Great people doing great things for others.

@@peterfraney7931bHe did step up and was checking on her by suggesting he should get some help. Some people will watch a bad situation but few will act as adults but these were just kids with an authority figure.
Great ending to a story that might not have had a good outcome. The boy is very articulate and polite, but I'm not sure he is a hero. The teacher asked him to go and get the school nurse and he did. The boy was following a request made by the teacher, nothing more, nothing less. But he still is a wonderful young man. All the best to Mrs. Moore for a full recovery.
@maryolearly2037 Remember that before being asked, he noticed something wrong and offered to go get the other teacher-Mrs. Moore turned down his initial offer of help, so he was definitely paying attention and insightful.
This story completely missed an opportunity to describe to people the symptoms someone displays during a stroke, the FAST test and protocols to ensure timely treatment and hopefully to avoid irreversible brain damage.
It’s great to hear about some random students helping out their teacher, who had a stroke! One particular student’s parents must be extremely proud of him.
I’ve had minis strokes for 37 years. My parents took me to the hospital when I didn’t answer the phone from home. Paralyzed on the left side unable to speak and the nurse at the hospital made me walk with her to the MRI. I couldn’t and just leaned against a wall waiting for your to come back. MRI was clear. I have aphasia sometimes I have trouble speaking or writing and with so many mini strokes my short term memory is gone. I know how rough it can be. Shame no one helped me until it I was in a bad way.
I remember in the 2nd grade. My class was at the restrooms and we were told to stand in line and wait for everyone. The teacher was in the restroom getting the students out. We saw other children running down a concrete ramp to the playground. One boy fell face down and didn't move. His classmates stood around and looked at him and didn't do anything. Our class saw the boy fall and we obediently waited in line. But one girl from our classroom, Jennifer, she just bolted to get the nurse. She didn't ask anyone if she should go. She didn't tell anyone where she was going. She just took off running as fast as she could. The nurse came running. This was mid 1960's. They gave Jennifer an award in the auditorium for her quick thinking and saving that boy.
Coming together you all did it right for your teacher and for your class too! Best of luck with your recovery your students have something to be glad about...they were there and helped you handle it all!

Great job, Master Penny. My prayers are with you, Mrs. Moore. I teach CPR and First Aid - and have for close to 30 years. Everyone can learn how to help save a life. I fainted back in March and fractured my skull causing a brain bleed. I know not a stroke, but causing similar symptoms, I remember nothing of what happened, even the week before was obliterated. I don’t wanna be a downer, but I hate how you called a little boy hero. He didn’t sacrifice anything of himself to say the teacher. He didn’t have to weather a storm and walk for miles. He just got the nerves. And that’s good that he did it, but on a scale from 0 to 10 it doesn’t even make it to One. And wouldn’t the children that originally prompted the teacher to go get help first be the ones who deserve recognition?
