From my experience it doesn’t matter how you get the biofilm into the water stream. It will be filtered either way and the surface stays clear. This model is smaller and looks better to me than the big ‘ol intake skimmers.

@6:03 you mentioned that the tank brackets that come with the Lily pipes fit on either the rimless OR rimmed aquarium.. .. This may just very well be BUT take note that the thickness of every individual rimmed tank is different from one another. By "different" I'm referring to the thickness of the plastic rim as per the tank size. So with that said, and from someone who also has a similar set of brackets and Lily pipes, they definitely do not fit over the edge of the 36 gallon bowfront tank. Fortunately however, I had a old set of brackets from a SUNSUN Canister that fit perfectly with both the rim of my tank (36 g) and as well, the Lily pipes. WHY they don't make those pipe brackets for larger rimmed tanks is beyond me after all, not everyone likes or feels comfortable with rimless aquariums. Also, why would you Mount your skimmer to the outflow pipe??? My intake (to the filter) pipe has the built in skimmer.. the purpose of the skimmer is to draw in the surface scum off the water and into the filter. How is that accomplished when the thing is attached to the outflow end of the pipe?

Instructions state the grey connectors should be below the water surface because they are not water tight. They just push on the plastic tube. In my opinion, just a bad design.
I don’t have a problem with the hoses as they are hidden behind the cabinet/stand and I don’t see them. I don’t shorten them because I move my filters around to different setups when I rescape and want the hoses to reach whichever tank I install it on.
Congratulations sir, you've just turned that skimmer into a Venturi. A skimmer should be plumbed in the intake. The job of a skimmer is to skim debris from the surface of the water and direct it into the filter canister. Or am I missing something?
You’re missing something. 😉 It is designed for the outflow. I am just not using the Neo pipe work. Surface scum need not be filtered. If you simply raise any lily pipe to splash onto the water surface you’ll have a clear surface. This option is for breeding setups where you don’t want shrimp and fry to get sucked into the filter via the skimmer. Here, they just get blown back into the tank. 🤘 Now, it won’t skim plant matter or debris, correct. But no skimmer I ever had actually ingests the plant leaves. They just get stuck on the edge anyway. 🤷🏼♂️
@@franka6302 don’t be corrected. Your first thought was correct, skimmers suck not blow doesn’t matter how you dress it skimmers suck the surface and if it’s not doing this then it’s not skimming. The first thing i thought was you're gonna fix that skimmer on the inlet pipe. Then, okay maybe you put it on the outlet to suck some air like an air pump to the tank? But wait, this is a planted tank & you've already put CO2 inline with the outlet. I don't understand.🤔 Anyways, thanks for the tips. Agree with you, that ribbed plastic hose looks from the 90s tho.😂 When i bought my 207, I knew i need to get that replaced with lily pipes.
Landen set looks great. Too bad they don't sell them in the EU. Not sure about the skimmer addition, but I'm sure that's just up to taste. One could probably hide it behind hardscape or something.
I probably should have clarified this in the video but, I prefer to use outflow skimmers to clear the scum off the surface of the water rather than inflow skimmers. With this particular outflow skimmer, if a small shrimp or baby fish gets pulled into the skimmer it just gets blown back into the tank rather than trapped in the filter. These outflow skimmers do clear the surface biofilm same as a traditional inflow skimmer.
No, they have rubber tips on the set screws. I bump them when cleaning and no issues. You don’t tighten them as hard as you can, just enough to grab the glass and stay in place.
The old Fluval looked better with the tank you have. Now first thing you can see when entering the room are the tall stainless steel pipes that don’t go well with the plastic black frames of the tank.
@@ssaquascapes really?? I always thought those we installed on the intake as to skim junk into the filter. i dont have 1 but just looking to add a canister with lily pipes
Yup. AquaRio designed this for the outflow. Shrimplet and fry safe as they just get blown back into the aquarium. See all you have to do is disturb the surface of the water to break up the biofilm. It won’t skim food or leaves or debris, but simply raising an outflow pipe will keep your water surface clear.
Wish I could add the photo showing how these pipes fall right into the 07 hoses. Do not buy these lily pipes especially if you plan to use Fluval 07 ribbed hoses and do not buy if you have a rimmed tank. The description on the specs states these are specifically for rimless tanks. Unless of course you are willing to beat the hell out of your rimmed frame as shown in the video.
Not this one. It is designed as an outflow skimmer only for surface scum. Baby fish and shrimp safe. Poor little guys just get blown back into the tank. 🤣
Everyone says that but it is DESIGNED as an OUTFLOW skimmer. See, all you have to do is break up the surface tension. Even a lily pipe raised up will keep the surface clear. All this does is suck the scum and break up the surface.
I have the Fluval 407 with the fluval spray bar and it’s the best setup. And for my skimmer I also have the Oase crystalskim 350 on one tank and the Oase Crystalskim 600 on another tank. These skimmers are the best to me. Just my opinion.

Anyways, thanks for the tips. Agree with you, that ribbed plastic hose looks from the 90s tho.😂 When i bought my 207, I knew i need to get that replaced with lily pipes.
The skimmer confuses a lot of people. It is only designed to remove surface scum and works well.
Landen set looks great. Too bad they don't sell them in the EU. Not sure about the skimmer addition, but I'm sure that's just up to taste. One could probably hide it behind hardscape or something.
Yes. A high hardscape would hide the equipment
Is the skimmer just used for circulating?
I probably should have clarified this in the video but, I prefer to use outflow skimmers to clear the scum off the surface of the water rather than inflow skimmers. With this particular outflow skimmer, if a small shrimp or baby fish gets pulled into the skimmer it just gets blown back into the tank rather than trapped in the filter. These outflow skimmers do clear the surface biofilm same as a traditional inflow skimmer.
@@ssaquascapes gotcha. Definitely makes sense if any breeding happens and the surface scum still gets removed. 👍🏻
@@ssaquascapes I was going to ask the same thing, makes since now.
Fluval pipes are just fine for any aquascaping.
Purely a matter of taste. 🤘
stands out more, anodized black or glass would be nice, with a lower lily arch
I don’t mind the height. It’s those giant black plastic clips that drive me nuts. But with aesthetics, each to their own.😁
@@ssaquascapes is the U height adjustable? to lower down as much as possible?
Yes. The clamp has a set screw so if you don’t care about surface agitation you can lower them right down to the rim!
Ever have one break the glass from being lifted with set screw in place ?
No, they have rubber tips on the set screws. I bump them when cleaning and no issues. You don’t tighten them as hard as you can, just enough to grab the glass and stay in place.
The old Fluval looked better with the tank you have. Now first thing you can see when entering the room are the tall stainless steel pipes that don’t go well with the plastic black frames of the tank.
Just a matter of preference I guess. I prefer the steel over plastic. That’s why we have different options. 🤘
I think the skimmer goes on the intake hose..................
Nope. Designed as an outflow skimmer.
The skimmer slant needs to be rotated 180. It’s not actually drawing suction through the skimmer.
Per the directions, this is the correct way to create the Venturi.
While they don’t fit large rimmed aquariums, that wasn’t depicted in this video. Securing them to 07 hoses was, in fact shown. 😉
Yea bro, not feeling the chrome look in my reeftank.
I can understand that. In a reef tank I imagine you want all black equipment.
First thing I did was remove those hideous Fluval pipes also
Don’t know who in the R&D department was like “yeah! That’s the look right there!” 😏
Skimmer goes on the in pipe
Not this one. It is designed as an outflow skimmer only for surface scum. Baby fish and shrimp safe. Poor little guys just get blown back into the tank. 🤣
That color is ment to be at the back of the tank that acts as a gripper in the glass
What color?
My brackets broke they are the worst!
The covers that hold the hose on the bracket break on mine so the hose isn’t tight against the glass.
I still cant get over the fact that people run canister filters on a 10 gallon lol
Looowww maintenance. 🤘🤘
It would seem more logical to me to put the skimmer on the INTAKE of the filter instead of blowing it into the tank.
Everyone says that but it is DESIGNED as an OUTFLOW skimmer. See, all you have to do is break up the surface tension. Even a lily pipe raised up will keep the surface clear. All this does is suck the scum and break up the surface.
Intake holes too big for the shrimpplets
Yes. I use a mesh screen intake filter over them.
👍
🤘
Hahahaha you have the outlet the wrong way pml
Hey, I’ll outlet any way I please. 🤣🤣
I have no issues at all with Fluval's lily pipes. I think what you replaced them with looks worse. Don't fix what's not broken.
To each their own! 😁
Why watch the video then dumbass haha!
Correct.thats the engeneering design.used what is the designated tools
Yeah it’s only nice with glass ones, they are likes invisible and it’s soooo nice to look at, unlike this stainless steel or whatever it is😭
I have the Fluval 407 with the fluval spray bar and it’s the best setup. And for my skimmer I also have the Oase crystalskim 350 on one tank and the Oase Crystalskim 600 on another tank. These skimmers are the best to me. Just my opinion.
Nah stock works perfect
🤢🤮
Fluville not fluval ;)
Might wanna hear the company pronounce their own name. This can be done by watching their channel. 😉
Just cause everyone pronounces it wrong doesn’t make it right. 😁
Tomato/toe"mah"tow lol
‘’mater” 🤣
