This was the first album that I bought at the age of 14, this was in '72. This started my love of Prog rock, and I saw them live several times in the '70's. Ian Anderson is a great frontman, Martin Barre, a much underrated guitarists. Jethro Tull still one of my favorites. Great review!
Hello, beautiful Empress, from Canada! Such an incredible band to react to! The balloons are coated with a light powder to keep them from sticking together when they are first blown. It's only latex so nothing to worry about.
It's been said that this song is a veiled reference to the rapidly increasing population of people on the planet. Like a runaway train that can't be stopped. Love you, Empress. ❤❤❤
Well, it sure looks like someone is fast becoming a true Jethro Tull fan! I personally think that Tull's best music lies in their somewhat quieter tracks. I'd like to suggest you react to their song SKATING AWAY ON THE THIN ICE OF A NEW DAY. I'm sure there may very well be a live version out there, but I would respectfully request you do the original studio version instead for a change. You won't be disappointed, trust me! ❤
You are absolutely right, I have seen J.T. a couple of times in Barcelona, their concerts are always fun, an explosive party of energy, musical expression and talent, a lot of talent and total entertainment. Ian Anderson is almost like a superman, imagine two long hours singing playing the flute, running, jumping up and down and singing again, blowing, jumping, and over and over and playing with his iconic pose, standing on one leg and one arm raised. and not fall faint Keep on rocking beauty ❤ Greetings from Barcelona !!
What has always amazed me about Ian is how he can dance around the stage and still have the breath and control to play the flute flawlessly. And does it with perfection show to show. This guy is an athlete and great performer.
This video was their 1982 performance with a partially brand new band line up. I personally prefer: - *Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath & Dambusters March (live at Madison Square Garden 1978) - OR - Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath (live 1977)* From the album, Aqualung (1971), "Locomotive Breath" lyrics are critiquing society metaphorically. Ian Anderson was warning us about the runaway population explosion going hand-in-hand with the moral decay of mankind. It cannot be stopped as civilization's progressive development has literally become a runaway train. FYI: The white substance is just a powder to keep the balloon from sticking when blowing it up on a machine. We are also seeing humidity condensation of the air, which is normal to see when a balloon pops. Although he has made some drug usage jokes, Ian Anderson is an advocate against using recreational drugs - with the exception of cigarettes and beer.
He also stopped smoking at one point, and sometimes mocks drunkenness in his lyrics. During a concert in tribute to J. S. Bach's 300th birthday, he served champagne to the audience and the band - except for the bass player who was known to be quite a drinker in his spare time - but no alcohol for him at work! ;-)
I prefer those other versions also, but there is no denying the energy in this version. In this video the band abruptly stops playing Locomotive Breath after he stops singing, and the bad transitions to an instrumental from the song Black Sunday to finish the performance.
The powder was NOT drugs. Ian is against drugs. Tony Iomi said that during his brief time with Tull, he learned the work ethic that made them successful .. No drugs, no booze before rehearsals, and rehearsals could start at 9am. My next suggestion would be Songs From The Woods.
I recommend listening to this song: MICHAŁ SZPAK - Dziwny jest ten świat / Raz dwa raz dwa (TOP OF THE TOP Sopot Festival 2019) greetings from Poland🤗🇵🇱
Greetings My Empress. Ian Anderson said the lyrics are a comment on population growth and the rhythm tracks chugging sound was recorded to replicate the sound of a locomotive racing down the railroad tracks. Any "white powder' you may've seen was definitely NOT cocaine!! As Ian Anderson was very much against drug usage and the drug culture of the 1960's and 1970's. I hope al is way with you, My Empress. Your humble servant, RNB.
This is actually almost hard rock, but Jethro Tull has so many facets: playful music, folk rock ("Songs from the Wood", "Heavy Horses") and some things that cannot be completely classified anywhere (for example "Pibroch - Cup in hand", "Benefit", "Baker Street Muse"). Maybe that's why Tull aren't in the Rock Hall of Fame. For me, Jethro Tull is overall (along with The Who) the most brilliant rock band of all time.
If you love his flute.... listen to Ian's later Orchestral Performance of some of Tull's classic tracks. The complexity of the music easily suits a full orchestra ... and shows how an entirely self-taught flautist can hold hsi own ... [Jethro Tull - Aqualung (Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull)] th-cam.com/video/582xsqATCFs/w-d-xo.html
I think you are becoming addicted - plenty more Tull for you to experience. This song is usually the final encore song, and I love it but it is also sad as it means the concert is over. There are other versions (as mentioned elsewhere) and one has a good example of the brilliant piano/guitar intro. The balloons are weather balloons and have been there when they were used I can confirm there is nothing unusual in them, I think it is just a powder coating from inside the balloon.
For some pure "chamber music" an acoustic performance of "Life's a Long Song" ... totally without the excesses of his younger-day performances. Just a beautiful song beautifully arranged ... with "clean" flute playing at the end. th-cam.com/video/98o-vZgeYks/w-d-xo.html

One of the top bands in the 70's.
I love your “what is the white powder…?” segment.
Glad you like Tull. Ian is into dramatic presentation. ✌️
There she is, My Empress!!!💞💞💞
First time comment 👍 Well-done ❤️❤️❤️
@@EMPRESSJOYJEAN I sensed you uploaded a video and was right on it😆😆💜💜
My beautiful queen looking so pretty as usual thanks for the reaction have an amazing night
Depending when they balloon was inflated the air temp changed the balloon internal temp causing moisture to develop when it was popped.
Love the band!
Same here

@@mikell5087 I actually think Black Sunday is the better song and a nice addition in this performance.
Fabulous band!! 😅
nothing like a beautiful lady reacting to jethro tull
I've never seen anyone else play the flute like this.❤

Jethro Tull, the genius of insanity wrapped up in one band
Back in the day they used to put talcum powder in the ballons to stop them sticking together before inflation which large rubber ballons could do
Great reaction again. have you reacted REO Speedwagon? A deep dive into them would be good, they’re a lot of fun too x
You must check out Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day. It's a long title and an amazing song.

Please react to "Temporary" by Eninem. You'll get to see Halie grow up. You'll love it

Knowing that Ian Anderson was definitely anti-drugs, I doubt that the baloons were filled with what you thought.
