    Hi! I am a young person who just started my first aquarium. I watched your video on how to lower nitrites and it was really helpful. I did a 25% water change and added some beneficial bacteria, and my nitrite levels went down a lot. Thanks for the video.

    Nice work! I appreciate this video!. One thing I might add is that Prime does dechlorinate water, however, its ability to detoxify the ammonia and nitrite lasts about 48 hours.

    If you have detectable nitrites, that usually means the cycle isn't complete or the existing beneifical bacterial has been damanged and must rebuild. You shouldn't really ever be able to see nitrites in an established tank.

    10:47 Cleaning your intakes and your sponge frequently, is a bad idea they can cause your tank to stay cloudy and no beneficial bacteria from growing. When setting up your tank I would at least give it a month before you change anything

    Prime doesnt eliminate Nitrites only temp binds them the effect wears off in 48 hours. API also has a similar product that does the same...

    I've learned not all nitrates are equal. The nitrates from fish waste and unconsumed food so not make plants grow. Would you agree with that? My source says bring down levels to 25ppm with a water change and then add quality ferts to bring no higher than 50ppm. Would you agree with that? I've thrown so much money at dying plants. I need a solution. Thanks.

    • @AquariumStoreDepot
      @AquariumStoreDepot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤔- well fertilizers and fish waste and uneaten food are different in that they produce ammonia first. Meanwhile fertilizers will bring in just the nitrates.
      To me that is the difference. What plants do you have? Maybe you could consider hardier plants like hornwort of Java fern.

  • @RubyFaber
    @RubyFaber 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've done partial water changes and complete water changes treated every time with water conditioner and within 2 days nitrite and nitrate levels increases more and more. Everything was fine until I removed a dead Otocinclus that had been dead a couple of days. I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank with no live plants. 7 small fish and 2 corys and 3 Otocinclus. I'm at a lost of anything to do.

    • @AquariumStoreDepot
      @AquariumStoreDepot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Change your water again and check your source water too. Looks around and see if there are more dead livestock. That’s where I would start

    • @RubyFaber
      @RubyFaber 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. All fish are accounted for. My tap water is also good. Not even any chlorine. 🤷‍♀️.

      @@RubyFaber sounds good. When was the last time you added livestock and how many did you add?

    • @RubyFaber
      @RubyFaber 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AquariumStoreDepot I've been fighting this for over a month now. I added the 2 corys two weeks ago hoping they would help. They did clean up the tank very well and within a day 🤣. Since getting them though, and they are bigger than my other fish, I've been thinking that I may need a larger tank. I forgot to tell you that when I did the full water change a couple days ago, I also took out all the decor and washed them in just water then replaced them back in the tank. I did not wash the substrate. The test strips I use are the 6 in one. They don't test for ammonia. Just nitrates, nitrites, chlorine, hardness, alkalinity, and ph.

    • @AquariumStoreDepot
      @AquariumStoreDepot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@RubyFaber sounds like the tank could be overstocked or you filtration isn’t enough. Fish won’t help with lowering nutrients. Certain plants will though
