  • The caro kann is a very solid yet ambitious opening. We often try to win a pawn early on, and hold onto the whole game with the Caro-Kann Opening. In this masterclass, we will dive deep into the Caro Kann Defense, by looking at the main variations in 8 chapters:
    1. Caro-Kann Advanced 4.c3
    2. Caro-Kann Advanced 4. dxc5
    3. Caro-Kann Fantasy 3. f3
    4. Caro-Kann Main Line: Tartakower
    5. Caro-Kann Main Line: Others
    6. Caro-Kann Two Knights
    7. Caro-Kann Exchange 3. exd5
    8. Caro-Kann Panov 3. exd5 4. c4
    By viewing these videos, you will completely learn the Caro Kann, and be able to play the caro kann defense at a very high level.
    Learn more about the Caro-Kann, as stated on wiki:
    The Caro-Kann Defence is a chess opening characterized by the moves:
    1. e4 c6
    The Caro-Kann is a common defence against the King's Pawn Opening. It is classified as a Semi-Open Game, like the Sicilian Defence and French Defence, although it is thought to be more solid and less dynamic than either of those openings. It often leads to good endgames for Black, who has the better pawn structure. It allows Black to circumvent enormous bodies of theory in 1.e4 openings such as the Ruy Lopez and the Sicilian Defence.
    Unlike its sister opening, the French Defence, the Caro-Kann does not hinder the development of Black's light-squared bishop. However, it comes at the cost of a tempo because Black has to play 1...c6 before pushing the pawn to c5, whereas Black can push c7-c5 in one move in the French Defence. White can combat the Caro-Kann in several different ways, often gaining a space advantage; additionally, Black has less mobility and can lag in development.
    In the 21st century, grandmasters Vladislav Artemiev and Alireza Firouzja use the opening with regularity, while Ding Liren and Hikaru Nakamura use it on occasion.

    You're a natural! It takes a lot of work to organize and present information like this in a way that builds on itself in a logical order. You also reinforce the ideas so well. I just finished Alex Banzea's masterclass videos on the Caro, which were also really great, but you do __such__ a great job explaining all of the "why" behind each idea. I feel like now I actually have hope of the concepts really sticking. So glad I found this. Well done man!

      I really appreciate all the kind words. I would love to take credit for being natural, but the truth is I have improved immensely from the feedback I get in my comments, and from watching other inspirations and their videos. Regardless, I am extremely happy you find this useful, and please let me know if you have any specific feedback, questions, ideas, etc.

      @@ChessGeek1 No notes on the videos so far! Again, just very well done and so nicely explained. The only thing I find myself wishing was for some sort of knowledge check, like a quiz of some sort...but obviously that is outside the realm of youtube :D

      @@sammyjoe7777 I see. Indeed I am trying to do something like that - something more interactive - on my new videos. (I have like Key Moments, where I ask certain questions) But yes, doing so on all videos (also openings) is an interesting idea. Plus a quiz in the end could be cool. Ill think about it, thanks.

    Thank you for putting this masterclass together. Im 1000 rapid and 800 blitz and feel stuck using the kings indian defence. So this is ideal. I really appreciate the attention to detail. Keep up the good work ChessGeek!

    At the end when talking about the bishop options .why would the opponent play bishop to threaten the black knight with a pin if the black Queen is there to take it ???

    Please provide your comment/suggestion on how to continue after 7.Qb3 in the line 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. Nf3 Nc6 5. dxc5 Bg4 6. c3 a6 (your recommendation) 7. Qb3

      I mean Qc7-Qxd5-e6-Qe4-Bxf3 you're winning the pawns back

  • @Auhsbs
    @Auhsbs ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why dont you always move the knight to f5 through h6? doesnt it when time since you dont have to hurry with e6? cant it l leave the e7 square open for the bishop when it cant go to b4? great video btw, very useful

    • @ChessGeek1
      @ChessGeek1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I mean you are right Nh6 makes more sense, if you know it goes to f5. But sometimes, keeping the flexibility is better, as from e7 it can also come to c6 (if they take the other knight), or it can come to g6, at times that they bring the bishop to f4 this is often a smart square. So more flexibility.

      Instead of Bxc5, you can play Qc7 and plan to take on c5 on the next move!

    I feel like most people immediately pin on b5 or defend with Bf5 so you don't have a nice place for your Cbishop

      Also the engine keeps telling me to play e6 before developing the bishop. Any ideas about that?

    Too bad it is biased for winning with black, yet there are glaring holes in the theory, where good white moves are missing. There are no advantages for white if black plays the right moves. but white has easy draws in all lines, but I prefer the space advantage for white.
    However, this channel does give an excellent explanation of strategy. One must wonder how the world survives, given the misinformation always found in chess channels, even though chess is just logic.
