Actually, as a fellow 1300, when I analyse my game, I noticed I'm making the most mistakes with knight. Pawns are usually pretty good for me(except last game, where I missed one good pawn move five moves on a row, until my opponent made it impossible).
At 14:06, Ben says, "You have three pieces that can take (the black pawn) on D4. Somebody suggested to take it with the white C pawn. Ben kept a straight face, and said, "with the pawn", but that's risky because it gives black a "slight" advantage. I don't like how this guy teaches. What exactly did anyone learn, outside of the opening option of black playing c5? I still like bishop to f5 a lot more.

His shtick gets old fast. but, I’m glad you love him. Different pov are important.
at 13:12 if the white knight moves as the black bishop is threatening it the black bishop cannot take the pawn on g2 as after white moves the knight to g5 and then black takes the pawn on g2 with the bishop, white can play f3 trapping the bishop and it can then be taken by simply playing rook to g1. just something I picked up there as he said after white moves his knight away black can then take the pawn which he cannot

peddaz55 if white castles king side, black will take on f3 and after gxf3 whites’ king is on an open file and the pawns aren’t defending it anymore, leaving it open to attack. White could castle queen side, but blacks Bishop and queen are already prepared to attack the king if that happens
was in the library with headphones on drinking coffee and when Ben went "i like colors" i almost spat it everywhere. gotta be careful while watching his lectures lmao
At 27:01, why does the rook have to take the knight? Why not 1.Rg1 Qxf3+ 2.Ke1 Rad8 3.Qe2...? Doesn't that just equalize the position after either 3.... Qxe2 4.Kxe2 or 3.... Kh7 4.Qxf3 Rxf3 and again, it's equal.
Wow Ben played very accurately in the second game. While he was doing his consolidation everything except for Nh8(which as Ben said the computer didn't like altough it's still not that bad) was top move for my Houdini, and indeed the best plan for white was a4-a5 all the way until Ben started attacking.
Why would not at 13:00 black go ...c4 (explosive!) and then next move install the bishop on d3? There is no light-square bishop and both knights are totally unprepared to attack that bishop. I suppose white could go Kd1 followed by Ne1 but that still seems excellent for black. Or b3 followed by bxc4 (to which bishop would respond Bd4 but the bishop looks excellent on that diagonal.
At around 23:18, couldn't he try some counterplay, knight to F6 check, if pawn takes, rook to G1 check, then queen to E3? He could at least create a tactical scramble, and possibly end up with mate
Because the Bishop at f8 and the Queen are watching the c5 square, if white takes c5, you help black in the development, because the f8 bishop would develop taking a piece, saving a tempo. As white moved the c2-c3 pawn to protect d4 (quite valuable square, controlling the center, and in Caro Kann defense, the black pieces has a solid position and a dream to counter attack in the queen's side) as white you want to keep the pressure in d4, and let the decision to that pawn break with the black, replacing that d4 pawn with your c3 pawn.
In this video I got my very unusual (suspicious) plan from both Ben and Anand with playing a4 a5 but this time not in a Caro-Kann I play it in the QG with white getting rid of my isolated pawn.

Nc3 blocks check and defends bishop, he captures the knight with his bishop to allow for this idea to actually work

Because the Bishop at f8 and the Queen are watching the c5 square, if white takes c5, you help black in the development, because the f8 bishop would develop taking a piece, saving a tempo. Why is Finegold like every grumpy martial arts teacher I've ever met
27:30 has 5 isolated pawns along with the 2nd game he let on about
ArmedSnowman Yes but he is up a full rook so he was way more than enough compensation for that while white never had any with his ruined structure.
Its impossible to have 5 isolated pawns on a 8*8 chessboard :O
A 9*9 or larger board and you're all set (y)
Matti Kauppinen doubled pawns can both be isolated so you actually can have 5+ isolated pawns
