    This is most clear and succinct explanation of this I've found! Thanks I'm giving it a go this weekend

    Thank you so much for the video! This was amazing to watch! I'm trying to make my own patterns and this showed me just how to do it!

    Diana, Thank you so much for this video. I practiced last night and had one issue. I'm making a bulky hat on a KH260. I'm knitting Detroit Lions in a hat. Everything worked great EXCEPT.. on the first and last letter I didn't know how to catch the yarn on stitches that come after the D and the S on the return side. Consequently, those two letters really pulled in leaving a string of holes. Perhaps what I was trying to do was more intarsia because the pattern design left 6 stitches on either side of the words. The letters between the first and last ones, turned out great. What should I have done on the machine? What I ended up doing is knitting the brim of the hat that will be folded up, I took the knitting off the machine and hand knit the team name, and now I'm going to put it back on the machine and finish the hat.

    Thank you! As a knitting machine beginner I had struggled with cursory instructions for the sequence. I wasn't sure if it was okay to start a row with the second color, then complete it with the main color, but I see that it is.

      You are so welcome! Hope you'll try a swatch - there's a routine to this, and it's helpful to have done it once just for practice.

    Dear Diana nice clear tutorial. Can you work 3 colours using this approach or does that fall into the realm of intarsia knitting?
    Thanks

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, and it works if the third color is scattered across. The more colors you do, though, the more floats and it can get packed up! Intarsia works best for situations with clumps of color.

    I just love this video! I have a 230 and love discovering all the manual work that’s available! ❤❤❤ would a 3 color pattern be possible too?

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but you et a lot of floats on the back. It can be very effective if you use just a little bit or it - a row or two only for accents.

    • @YarnCraft_And_CityVibes
      @YarnCraft_And_CityVibes 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for responding! :) it would indeed only be max two rows as an accent color :)

    How did you know I was doing Fair Isle today? Great video. I have the sk 155 and 280 punch card machines. I am getting some blank cards this week and wonder if you have a video on making your own cards.

    Thank you for your explanations. But can we do the same thing with a SK 280 ? And what are the settings of the carriage ? I hope it's possible 🙂.

      Your machine has punch cards, I believe, and automatic two-color Fair Isle. I think that is by far the easiest way to do it. However, you could do it this way by setting it to slip so it only knits the needles in hold. I don't have your model, but I believe you pull the slip levers on the side and turn the wheel to SJ. Could someone who has this machine help Rachel with the settings? Wish I were 100% sure about the settings.

    Hi, I am using this method to knit multi-color work. I have 8 colors for each row and I did one color per time using this method, I have to knit 8 times each row. But in some of the rows, the loop doesn't get caught, so there are holes in between different colors. I am not sure how does that happen. I was wondering if you had any tricks to avoid this?

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not attempted eight colors per row. I would expect the floats on the back to create problems. You should use lots of eights, and make sure your plan works well by making a good-sized swatch before you invest a lot of time.

    Hi Diana. Could you please show us how to do fair isle in the round? And could you put a card in for the main bed and only hand manipulate the ribber to make it more efficient? Thank you for all of your lovely videos! ~Page

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did this once, on a round yoke child's sweater knitted seamless with a ribber. This was a complicated project. Not sure how amenable it is to TH-cam teaching, but I'll keep it in mind.

    Truly you made it look so easy, but I sat here befuddled (LOL). I've learned so much from many of
    your tutorials (like your vertical, floatless fair isle), but my brain went tilt in trying to make this make
    sense to me. (LOL)

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, really oddball having to do one color at a time in one direction and one color at a time in the other direction. You have to count both ways...but the general rule is, if it can be done on a fancy patterning machine, it can be done somehow or other on a non-patterning machine!

  • @Ravencall

    A silly question but... I don’t understand the “free pass”. When I try that all of the stitches fall off. My manual does not explain that. ( I have a KnitKing bulky.)

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, this is a great question! Most Knitkings have "Part" buttons on the carriage. If you push the left part button and go to the left, all the needles in B are untouched. If the needles are in D or E, oops, the knitting falls off. If you push the right part button and go to the right, it slips past needles in B. Same problem, needles in D or E will move. You can only free pass when needles are all in A or B position. You can also free pass if the carriage is in "H" and all the needles are in A or E position. Practice with no yarn! Diana

      ake sure the wheels under the carriage spin freely. You may have to take the wheels off and get bits of yarn out from underneath them. You can't see the yarn, but it's there. Also, oil everything. Probably those wheels, though.
