Great drumming! I had a Drum Mate set when I was a kid.Pretty much the same set.Hated the tom holders because you needed a wrench, but I sure wish I still had that set. SO vintage!
I had a Strewart kit in those same sizes during most of the 90's. Great little set of drums. I remember a studio owner actually wanted to buy my kit because he was looking for a house kit and was impressed with how good they sounded. Don't ever let those Pearls go. Enjoy them. =)
Thanks so much! They're still available of you want to check them out. reverb.com/item/39127910-pearl-mij-luan-kit-1960-s-in-blue-sparkle-w-matching-snare-video-demo-below
It’s excellent quality wood. I have the same wood on my drums. I was thinking of switching to maple wood but changed my mind. It has its own distinctive character
Good to see another open-handed 3 piece player! Great kit. Unfortunately cannot find any on the used market. I'm seriously considering the re-issue. As demonstrated here : some of the best shells ever made, but the hardware was so bad that they never took of at the time...! :(
Is that matched snare to the series ? I got 1968' jet outfit series in red sparkle without matched snare so I use 69' Yamaha SDM - 5 to have kinda sound of that years
Hey, I got a kit just like that! Except different color and the snare is missing. Do you know what it is? I´ve tried to do some research but can´t really find a name for a setup like that
So cool! I know the pressed fiber board kits were the president series, but I'm not sure about the luan shells, maybe thunder king? The tough part is that Pearl in the 1960's didn't exactly have the most consistent build process so it's hard to say what is what. Thanks for checking it out!
Indeed cool B) Thanks for the video! I figured it´s probably older than the President and Thunder King series, it looks a lot like this kit to me: www.vintagedrumguide.com/pearl_drumsets_1966.htm Except for the 12" tom instead of the 13"
My first kit was a Pearl Presidents and it was one of the best sounding kits I ever had.
They're so great, historically underrated, Gretsch tones at a huge discount.
Music to my ears. Amazing job on the tuning that snare is just an absolute banger.
Keep it up Michael!!
Thanks so much Aliena!

That snare sounds really good. Honestly wasn't expecting it to.
I know right? Its tuning range is certainly stuck to a certain sound, so there's not a ton of flexibility but it does that one thing pretty well.
Instablaster...
I think Ringo Star’s Ludwig snare drum is similar. It’s made with Mahogany so it has a similar tone with that wood.

They sound great! Especially the snare!

That open handed style looks so cool! Kit sounds surprisingly good.
Thanks so much!

The whole damn kit sounds great 👍
That is one sweet kit that you have there. Beautiful tuning job also, sir.
Hey thanks Keith, love these old school MIJ kits.
A lot of old classic songs used drums that sounded similar. It can be great in the studio especially for the singer songwriter style types
DOPE BREAKS CLEAN DEEP TONES CRISPY SNARE LOVE IT! 😮
Excellent drumming . They sound very nice
Sounds good….nice kit too.
Love your playing.
Nice playing and love the tuning!
Thank you!
@@everettdrumshop8179 My pleasure. Thanks for sharing 😃
My first drum set. It was in white pearl. I ordered it from either Sears or Montgomery Wards in 1963. 😎
Nice set !! 👍
Thanks so much!
Var goot! Treasure kit, in my opinion! ! 😁
Yeah they're great! Thanks for listening

Great sounding kit man! I have this same kit in 13/16/20/14, what would you say the value of these is if you have a guess? Thanks for the vid. Peace.
Nice ...

Love those red sparkle wraps! This snare is matched to the series. The kit is 20", 12", 16" with the snare.
Sounds great! How many mics are you using to record this?
Thank you! It's just two overheads and the raw audio. Mics are the AKG 451s

What heads are you using?
Are these straight 9 ply?
Rich, these are Luan shells. I'm not sure on the ply. Thanks for listening!
