Unlike a lot of gearhead reviewers who can recite specs up and down but can't take a decent pic to save their lives, you are actually a really good photographer. Do you retouch your own images? Nice review. I wish they had kept the R6 to the 30 megapixels of the EOS R. That's the perfect sweet spot.
Shot Canon for years. Typical for them to under spec cameras to separate price points. Loved my 5D Mark II but the density of the sensor wasn’t High enough and you would get stair stepping on things like grass if it was at a 45 degree angle across the sensor. Wonder if the R6 has the same issue?
AllGoodThingsNetwork That would be make the price go up, the reason it’s 2500 is because they’re using the same sensor as the 1dx3, so they didn’t have to spend more money trying to develop another 30mp sensor which would make the camera cost just as much as the r5
Mario Solorzano I’m not familiar with the development of cameras but they already had a 30MP sensor in the EOS R - wouldn’t they be able to use it? (Again, I have no idea of how a camera is built.)

Being a Sony A7r3 user, I'm impressed by Canon's effort at releasing professional level mirror-less systems. I wish Sony would update their 85 GM lens, improve its focusing speed. Great video Irene.

I'm not a pro photographer, rather just starting. Have a 70D and an EOS R. Love them both for various reasons. I bought the R5 this morning. This camera sets new boundaries for both photo and video. The way I look at it, you are only the artist your tools allow you to be. The better you are, the more you can make those tools work for you, but you have to start with quality to assure quality results. These cameras are so close in so many ways that it could be hard to choose, but honestly, the higher end of the R5 just isn't achievable in the R6, so you have to make a choice on how high your initial bar is set with your camera, and I think the R5 sets it to an amazing height. Maybe a historic height. Myself, I just couldn't pass up that ceiling. I think years from now we all will still be talking about this camera, and those who have it, with the firmware updates surely to come to improve things like getting 1080p/120 (this HAS to be a Canon keep-the-cool-stuff-for-an-early-update thing), this is going to be the 5DII of the future, a camera that will have changed the future of photography and videography.
One very important part of our photo gear is the computer for processing those files. I say get the R5 and a high speed processor, lots of RAM and solid state drives to manage the large files easily.
It is incredibly rejuvinating and humbling to see a lowkey, honest perspective on Canon's new mirrorless cameras. It's overwhelming to watch videos talk about their detailed specs alongside other company camera series. I've been shooting only and with Canon for 7 years now, as an amateur. 8 years? No, not really. The D5 DSR was and is a big milestone that Canon presented. And this was 5 years ago. It's still an impressive camera. Of course, the R5 and R6 is a new generation.
@@saptarshidas2245 Where is the problem, If Canon get same or higher resolution by low noise as other companies with their current technology? The auto focus and IBIS of Canon are the best you can buy in this moment Canon don't need the loud and agressive marketing of Sony to come back to the top.
So pleasing to see the stills performance tested and not just the video performance. I shoot lots of stills and the R5 is the one I'm interested in purchasing. Thank you Irene, you have just got yourself a new subscriber.
This video is really a breath of fresh air. This totally stood out of all noisy TH-cam reviewers, and you showcased plenty more information then 5 other channels combined.
This is an amazing "review" unlike the other videos regurgitating spec sheets over and over again. R6 seems to be the perfect camera for me. Thank you!
better colour in a bigger pixel pitch photo site like a 12 MP cameras like D700 sharpness is going too far depending on what your doing you loose colour the higher MP's you go up , might be sharper but yes i would go for the R6 as welll
Thank you Irene, nowadays it's hard to find a youtube video showing how equipment produces instead now we get thousands of youtubers showing themselves and ranting and maybe on clip of a pic if any. Thank you so much.
Dear Irene, I really love how you demonstrate the settings after ever shot. Yes! Yes!, I know there are many parameters to consider on a shoot but you give us a massive "way in". That's the way I learnt back 100 years ago and my sincere thanks for that. You do an extraordinary job with your photography and it's really beautiful to say the least. Just let me say a big thank you 😊 Pete
I thought about getting the R5 for my concert photography. More megapixels and the crop would have been decisive for me. Then I took a closer look at my pictures and noticed that I use the crop less often than I thought. Now it will be the R6, which according to the technical data also has the better lowlight capabilities. That and the fact that I would not use 8K and the price for the R6 in Germany is almost 2000 euros cheaper would be decisive for me. The R6 is now pre-ordered and I can hardly wait until the end of August.
I'm just going to go ahead and say this, I'm only 1 minute into the video and I'm already excited to see the images that you will produce with these cameras! It's out of my price range, but I can dream.
I found this video by luck. Your transparency is unmatched. This was such an honest video. I've had my R5 for about 2 years now and it never fails to amaze me. I feel like I'm really just starting to learn how to use my R5. Your hard work clearly shows. I was great to hear about the R5 from a photographers perspective. Thank you for helping me sample out the different lenses by placing all the information clearly.
Like your review. Beautiful images! The google algorithm knows this is popular. So many ads. Ignore your haters. The R5 may be best for you but it will force a computer upgrade. As technology marches on old friends are left behind. No more 8 tracks and cassettes for me.
Irene I like to recommend to you that you get the EOS R5. I know it is 45 MP, but remember one thing about Canon. They offer you the three RAW file size. small, medium, and large Raw files sizes. The EOS R6 as great as it is. it's 20 MP (which is a lot.) With the EOS R5 you can use the small, or medium RAW file size to give you the proper amount of megapixels for your photography work.
I think it must have been this deep inner feeling that made me fall in love with photography. I love taking photos with nature landscape, portrait, creative shots and also astrophotography with my smartphone. It gives me the ability to express myself and show people what i see in a very touching way. Hoping to save a lot of money for my first dslr camera. That's why i subscribed to your channel today because I'm inspired how you take a photo and enjoy looking at it with this certain kind of quality.
Irene, you are on the top of the photography in terms of your creativity, imagination and ideas!!! You are a professional photographer and you should have the best weapon with you! It will pay off in the future. You are my inspiration! Myself I'm planning to get R6 and RF 85mm 1.2 L USM. It will be more than enough for me not being a professional PHOTOGRAPHER.

yes!! Both cameras (especially the R6 ) gave me the feel of the DSLR colors and quality that i loved but with everything improved, amazing AF and video.
This is the kind of review I needed right now. So many tech reviews for these cameras are out, praising and just talking specs. To see the R5 and R6 in action, just wow. Going to wait around to see if the price dips at all. New subscriber too ... :)
early reports of over heating with the R5. you also need cf fast cards which are crazy expensive. R6 seems like the logical choice. 4K 60 and 1080 120 at full frame. No overheating. Less expensive cards and you won't need to upgrade computers.
@@Jorge_moya you don't need have to use the other card slot, I shot everything on the SD. Personally didn't have the overheating problem, not sure where those reports are coming from as not that many people were able to shoot the camera.
Terrific to see the new cameras in real world shooting situations and to hear your honest opinion. For me it’s the R5 just because of its greater resolution count and video options although it means a major upgrade in computer. I am thinking ahead and hoping the R5 will stay future proof for some years to come😊
Canon must Love you, what you do with there products is amazing, Some will be thinking they will get the same results as you by purchasing this camera not so, You are great at what you do
Irene, this is one of the best videos about the R5 & R6 so far! Thank you! I thought about getting the original EOS R, but did not pull the trigger... Currently shooting with an Fuji XT3 and X100F. But those new babies from Canon looking damn sexy, I can not longer resist :) Had the chance to play with the original R and some lenses (RF50 1.2, RF85 1.2, and the RF24-105). The lenses are so, so good! I think I'll go with the R6 and the RF50 1.2 for now. Only few people need 8k video and 45mp. Got decent prints from 16mp so 20 shoud be just fine. The R6 has the flagship sensor from the 1DX III what else could you need? ;-) Best greedings from Germany! Leon
@Chris glad to hear that the EF to E works well for you.. im only on a Rebel SL2/200d right now, but in a year i'd like to switch to sony full frames after i improve.. so my canon lenses will come in handy after all!

i don't understand how you manage to process the files from r5 and r6, as far as i know there is no lightroom or camera raw update for them, and none of other reviewers showed results because they were forbidden, even peter mckinon who is canon ambassador
@@strippedlist I was given Canon software that processed the Raws. Many other ambassadors were able to share the images, Lindsey Adler, bunch of Canon Canada ambassadors I know. Peter was probably just focusing on the video for this launch as that's what he is primarily, a videographer.
Thank you for this extensive video. The amount of work that you have invested here to bring us closer to the cameras should not be underestimated. I am impressed by your unpretentious style and the natural way you take pictures. It is astonishing how “easy” you develop gorgeous scenes. The photos look very natural and confidential. A great work style! But now for the camera test. In addition to the often discussed overheating problems, other weaknesses are becoming apparent: The R5 has an auto focus problem! If you only look at the pictures on a 4K monitor, you will notice that the focal plane at the aperture of 1.2 is often in front of the detail to be focused (eye!): 01:01 the focal plane is on the left of the leaves, not on the eyes - no hit! 02:20 the focal plane is exactly on the dog's left eye - hit! 03:28 the focal plane is on the end of the umbrella pole, far (!) Before the eyes - no hit! 04:19 the focal plane is on the nose, the pupils are already out of focus - no hit! 04:28 and 05:06 the focal plane is on the left shoulder / shoulder, the eyes are out of focus - no hit! 06:26 the focal plane is on the right breast, the eyelashes are out of focus - no hit! 07:50 the focal plane is on the fingers and nose, the eyelashes are out of focus - no hit! 07:52 the sharpness level is exactly on the right eye, even veins are crisp - hit! 08:20 the focal plane is on the nose, the pupils are out of focus - no hit! 08:50 the focal plane is on the eyelashes, the eyeballs are slightly out of focus - no hit! The photo taken 08:50 by the husband, with the autofocus function, shows that it is not because of the inadequacy of the photographer, but because of the autofocus problems of the R5. The hit rate 2 out of 11 is very bad! The R5 used is a pre-series model. CANON HAS TO IMPROVE THE AUTOFOCUS DRAMATICALLY! A thousand thanks to Irene who saved us from ordering this camera with (still) many issues! You deserve a like and a subscribe.
Hey! The AF is absolutely fantastic! It hits the iris itself ,not the eyelashes and in all images I have shown the eyes are tack sharp at 1.2. I edited all those images and I know what I am talking about. With the overheating, I didn't experience it all it. From what I know it's something to be expected when shooting 8k for a long time( again to be expected for a small body mirrorless)
Love your video. I'm considering an R6. As an advanced amateur, it seems plenty for me. But for your professional work, the R5 is in a class by itself. The skin tones of your models just pop out of the frame; they're stunning!
I hope I'm not too late and I hope you read this comment. I have been praying to see your work on one of the great billboards in Las Vegas and think you should go for one of those gigs. That being said what if you get asked to do a huge print? You'll definitely want the R5 for that reason because I think your work already fits the needs for a giant print

8 years? No, not really. The D5 DSR was and is a big milestone that Canon presented. And this was 5 years ago. It's still an impressive camera. Of course, the R5 and R6 is a new generation.
Still no BSI Sensor.
Finally great to see the final image. Can't wait to get my hands on this R5. I am sold.
Nice! Glad they gave the cameras to an actual good photographer instead of just another tech geek with a channel.
the one video that will sway my purchase for photography has finally dropped. Thanks Irene. Just pre-ordered the R5 now :)
The “husband test” is a good idea😄 And I reeeeeeeaaaaaally want that camera!
The best video of the new Canon R5. Loved every minute of it.!! Absolutely Jaw-Dropping results! The models were gorgeous!.
Great overview of the two cameras. Tough decision between the two. Although 8k raw video and pulling stills from it is pretty cool.
I'm going with R6 and keeping my EOSR!
@@aussie2uGA as a spare😂
I thought about getting the R5 for my concert photography. More megapixels and the crop would have been decisive for me. Then I took a closer look at my pictures and noticed that I use the crop less often than I thought. Now it will be the R6, which according to the technical data also has the better lowlight capabilities. That and the fact that I would not use 8K and the price for the R6 in Germany is almost 2000 euros cheaper would be decisive for me. The R6 is now pre-ordered and I can hardly wait until the end of August.
@Chris That's right. And so far I have thought. Nevertheless, for me in Germany it does not justify an additional 2000 euros.
Go for R5 for sure! That’s perfect camera for the professional
Count me sold on an RF85mm but also.... that model with the umbrella....wowzers!
Stunning Models and results. R5 with 85 1.2 is a killer combo.. Who wants to buy a kidney?
I agree. Killer combo right there. I would buy your kidney but I sold mine for the R5, so couldn't afford it now anyway. LOL
these cameras are not for poor people like you. don't buy kidney.
if you can't afford anything don't buy noone is forcing you
Like your review. Beautiful images! The google algorithm knows this is popular. So many ads. Ignore your haters. The R5 may be best for you but it will force a computer upgrade. As technology marches on old friends are left behind. No more 8 tracks and cassettes for me.
🥰🥰
Such beautiful photos. Way better than Vogue and on a tiny budget too. Truly creative. Thank you !
Good point
I believe the size is only jogs not raw. The raw size is the size unless you are referring to a cropped image.
3:26 oh my goodness. How does Irene get such wonderful compositions
Great work
Irene, you are on the top of the photography in terms of your creativity, imagination and ideas!!! You are a professional photographer and you should have the best weapon with you! It will pay off in the future. You are my inspiration! Myself I'm planning to get R6 and RF 85mm 1.2 L USM. It will be more than enough for me not being a professional PHOTOGRAPHER.
Perfect first look at the cameras! Thanks 🙏🏽
When are you going to be reviewing Omar ? Waiting to hear your thoughts as well :)
Waiting for your review Omar, coz these are paid/sponsored shit
Hi Irene , just dont mind what haters say , keep doing great job as always , no matter you take money or not from Canon , its not their cup of tea ..You just carry on with your job , just entertain us with your magical photography , my wife is also a photographer , I know the efforts and struggles ..God bless you ..
OK. I'm sold. That colour comparison between the R and the R6 swung it for me.
yes!! Both cameras (especially the R6 ) gave me the feel of the DSLR colors and quality that i loved but with everything improved, amazing AF and video.
Oh look it’s Jamie Windsor 🙌🏾
yah I was literally stunned by that.
When I will have those camera!!
Are you kidding? The lighting is totally different.
Stunning photos all the other "famous" reviewers are still just talking about these cameras ! This by far the best review to date thankyou Irene
Goodness me those light painting studio shots! 😭😭
This is the kind of review I needed right now. So many tech reviews for these cameras are out, praising and just talking specs. To see the R5 and R6 in action, just wow. Going to wait around to see if the price dips at all. New subscriber too ... :)
R5, every time if u wanna u can play with resolution. This camera will be for a years and years !. Let us know which one u choose ! :)
Yes and you can always shoot small RAW if you need smaller sizes. I believe 23Mpx on R5
early reports of over heating with the R5. you also need cf fast cards which are crazy expensive.
The heating reports is recording in 8K, not in photographs. In the event canon put that In small letters.
got it! yeah i didn't even bother with the 8k since i would never use it
Terrific to see the new cameras in real world shooting situations and to hear your honest opinion. For me it’s the R5 just because of its greater resolution count and video options although it means a major upgrade in computer. I am thinking ahead and hoping the R5 will stay future proof for some years to come😊
Canon must Love you, what you do with there products is amazing, Some will be thinking they will get the same results as you by purchasing this camera not so, You are great at what you do
Fantastic ‘live on location’ Review of R6 & R5, with some absolutely beautiful photos to demonstrate her thoughts. Really useful, thkz.
Irene, this is one of the best videos about the R5 & R6 so far! Thank you!
I thought about getting the original EOS R, but did not pull the trigger... Currently shooting with an Fuji XT3 and X100F.
But those new babies from Canon looking damn sexy, I can not longer resist :)
Had the chance to play with the original R and some lenses (RF50 1.2, RF85 1.2, and the RF24-105). The lenses are so, so good!
I think I'll go with the R6 and the RF50 1.2 for now.
Only few people need 8k video and 45mp. Got decent prints from 16mp so 20 shoud be just fine.
The R6 has the flagship sensor from the 1DX III what else could you need? ;-)
Best greedings from Germany!
Leon
Very interesting, thank you. Those ‘painting with light’ shots were amazing!
Pictures on that camera with the real light looks even better then speed lights! amazing work👌🏼
Cant wait to get my hands on this camera!!!........in 4 years.
The First Legit Review of both r5 & r6. Well Done!
This was a superb review and breakdown. 5 stars! I enjoyed every minute of it
This sure beats card tricks at 120p. 🤣
Amazing result. This is a true review in the field working with the camera. Not like others TH-camrs they don't even have it and B.S. it. Thank you.
I can't wait to see TH-cam videos of people switching back to Canon from Sony.
@Chris glad to hear that the EF to E works well for you.. im only on a Rebel SL2/200d right now, but in a year i'd like to switch to sony full frames after i improve.. so my canon lenses will come in handy after all!
Finally, a real test focusing on photos, not video. Excellent. Those models were gorgeous!
Yey, an actual photographer tested it 🤣
Bought exactly the same setup. Great tips. I think i fall in love with your model, she so beautiful ❤️
8:23 Irene: my husband's not a photographer
Husband: *proceeds to produce an extremely beautiful and well composed photo of Irene*
@ Irene Rudnyk you should go with the R5, you need more mega pixels if you are going to crop the images
The ergos are exciting. I can assume it feels more at home coming from a 5D body. Also cant go wrong with Luna eye af.
I got so happy about this being shot on my camera because i havnt gotten to test it in those lighting environments yet. Then i read the fine print, *Captured on a pre-production model of the EOS R6* elaborate.
This was shot before R6 was released
I had the Camera Conspiracies intro music in my head.
🔨
He's posted a video about the R5 and R6 already!
Toneh
I love the direction of your videos. They are not mainstream review videos and are so real world
High-End! Sony может закрывать фотоподразделение следом за Olympus.
p.s. Irene,your shots are incredible!)
Tony Yourich
I'm more impressed with your model holding still for 10 seconds and still came out sharp!
Yesssss
My jaw legit dropped and hung open when you started showing the images you created with the lights! I'm obsessed!!! Thank you for sharing!
I’m already dying to have R5 😱
Those studio dragging lights photo were incredible!
2:34 I spy a Fujifilm x-t3 (maybe x-t4?) on the ladder!
No, I don't own any Fuji cameras
She doesnt own it, but its definetly fujifilm. The stap holder and aperture ring on the lens is a dead giveaway.
Yes, Looks a lot like a Fujifilm camera :)
It's absolutely, most definitely, 100% a Fuji camera on the ladder. Why not just explain why it's there rather than simply dismiss the comment with "I don't own any Fuji cameras!"??
@@FreddyRozen that's an x-t3 but she doesn't own it, that part of the video comes from an older video where she was testing the x-t3, here is the original video: v=HHD1NfQPGSo, and this: v=p3qdY_FErYs
every...single...time....you blow me away with your amazing images Irene. Thank you for ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are the best out there
This video is basically when you stop listening to sour grapes people on the internet that have never seen, touched or used this camera and actually watch a professional use it and see how amazing it is. 👏
I decide personally for the R6 and use my EF/EF-S lenses. My experience with the RP is that the EF/EF-S lenses work so much better on the new R systems that’s so cool. For my personal use a an advanced hobby fotograph the R6 meets my goals!
"...the EF/EF-S lenses work so much better on the new R systems..." - Could you please elaborate on that?
@@nunooliveira4257 As a result, the AF fits perfectly when the R-series is measured directly on the sensor. For some lenses along with a DSLR, the focus was sometimes not so good. For some lenses along with a DSLR, the focus was sometimes not so good. But this is my personalBut that is my personal opinion.
Thanks for the review. Question: Does that mean Canon is not coming out with a newer version of the M50 ?
I have no idea :)
That 85mm f/1.2 lens is divine. Thanks for the review. Very nicely done from the user's perspective.
The quality of the r5 is outstanding
The R6 is still a great option. Same great auto focus, same 12 to 20 frames per second.
The autofocus alone has me leaning towards the R5 rather than the S1H. For smaller shoots, I could see it replacing a manual focus puller.
Nice review. I was convinced I was looking at the R5 image, apparently I couldn't be more wrong, so I'm buying the R6. Thank you!! Lovely images BTW, beautiful!

Irene Rudnyk great video! By any chance affiliate links to the lenses?
i don't understand how you manage to process the files from r5 and r6, as far as i know there is no lightroom or camera raw update for them, and none of other reviewers showed results because they were forbidden, even peter mckinon who is canon ambassador
High ISO test: ISO 500??? The one thing nobody talks about......
@@strippedlist I was given Canon software that processed the Raws. Many other ambassadors were able to share the images, Lindsey Adler, bunch of Canon Canada ambassadors I know. Peter was probably just focusing on the video for this launch as that's what he is primarily, a videographer.
@@frnkjones40 real life test for me. I would never shoot higher than that ( and I shot at 640)
Thank you for this extensive video.
In addition to the often discussed overheating problems, other weaknesses are becoming apparent:
The R5 has an auto focus problem! If you only look at the pictures on a 4K monitor, you will notice that the focal plane at the aperture of 1.2 is often in front of the detail to be focused (eye!):
01:01 the focal plane is on the left of the leaves, not on the eyes - no hit!
From what I know it's something to be expected when shooting 8k for a long time( again to be expected for a small body mirrorless)
awww Luna's little faceeee
i knowwww 😭😭😭
Love your video. I'm considering an R6. As an advanced amateur, it seems plenty for me. But for your professional work, the R5 is in a class by itself. The skin tones of your models just pop out of the frame; they're stunning!
U r just amazing. Without using any light setup u capture amazing photograph
Improvements can always be made. Add Anamorphic modes, more RAW video options, pixel shift, global shutter.
