She does what she can because she has known the truth about Amy, and Amy sets her up as well to take a fall as an accomplice.
My favourite on set story about this film is that Director David Fincher and Ben Affleck had a falling out over a scene where Fincher wanted Affleck to wear a New York Yankees cap. Affleck being a big fan of The Yankees rivals the Boston Red Sox refused to wear the cap which led to an argument between the two and filming being stopped for a short period.

This movie was one hell of a ride. A disturbing portrait into the deep depths of the mind. One of those films that leaves you disturbed, confounded and angry.
One key thing to consider is the chicken or the egg of it; Did Nick stop trying and Amy dropped her mask or was Amy's mask not that concealing so Nick stopped trying?
This movie/book is based on the Laci Peterson murder. Scott Peterson is still in prison for her murder (yes, he is guilty). It follows that case fairly closely until the reveal that Amy isn't really dead. Then it takes that case and gives it a dramatic twist that makes this movie absolutely amazing. It's one of my favorites. I like how this movie exposes how easy it is for the public to believe that a man killed his wife even when he is innocent. We just expect it and instantly go in that direction. It's usually the right direction, but when it isn't, it becomes a huge problem for the innocent men. Women can so easily send them "up, up river."
Ah man Kunia.. I never really disagree with you, but I've got to call out the difference in the way you're willing to forget Amy's issues, but crucify Nick for his. You called him out for him wanting the "cool girl" and how he made her change for him, but then not 30 seconds later Amy literally said "I FORGED the man of my dreams" and you didn't say a word. Don't get me wrong, Nick deserves the criticisms, I'm not saying he doesn't, I'm just saying so did Amy. I just find it really hurtful how instantly people start to explain or forgive a woman due to her life, or problems, etc. Like that's fine, but do it for men too. The second a guy does something wrong, there's no thinking of their stress, their environment, nothing. They messed up, and that's the end of it. And please, I know this is just a movie reaction, but as a guy, it gets really tiring to see how quickly people let women off the hook, and how much quicker they're willing to condemn men. There are alot of bad men. There are. But just like good women, there are good men out there who get the heat that the bad ones deserve. And again, I normally agree with alot of Vkunias opinions and takes, but this one was just off for me personally.

@ghostfacekiller891 you clearly didn't read my entire comment. I literally said that Nick deserves the criticism. But that doesn't give her the right to *frame him for murder* I said like 3 times that I'm not saying Nick didn't deserve it, I was pointing out how people are so quick to excuse Amy because of her environment, yet we never do the same for men. You're doing the exact thing I'm talking about. Amy literally framed Nick for murder, but you're still all "but he didn't have to cheat". Nobody is saying what he did was okay. I'm saying that I find it highly ironic that your big sticking point is the guy's faults, yet you just ignore Amy's. The very reason for my original comment lol thank you for proving my point. 🤦🏻
One of the things I did wish they included from the book (Gillian Flynn did write the screenplay) was at the end, where the events of the film are pretty much similar but (and it's been years since I've read the book so I'm paraphrasing) but with the baby on the way Nick saws "You'll have to be you when the baby comes." Nick recognizes that Amy will never change and that he’s bound to her by the life of their child, needing to keep up the appearance of a loving husband for the sake of their unborn child. This ending encapsulates Flynn's dark portrayal of love, marriage, and identity, as both characters are trapped in a toxic cycle that neither can escape.
This is one of those movies - like Passengers - where I wonder what it would have been like or how it would have been received if the genders had been flipped...
@@gunnarpoker2827 That's interesting. I was talking about the characters having their gender swapped but you do bring up a valid point. If a man had written this book/screenplay and it had been word for word exactly the same, same casting in the film, etc., but it had been written by a man, it likely would have been viewed as victim blaming and panned by critics as an inauthentic defense of toxic masculine behavior. Rather than Amy being viewed as a brilliant and nuanced character who was simultaneously sympathetic and unsympathetic, she would be viewed as a male-written caricature with absolutely no authenticity whatsoever.
I'll have to check it out!! I love when a movie is done so well it makes you constantly second guess who to root for/who is the true villain (if there even is one) 👀😊
When you think about it, Nick decided to change the moment Amy revealed that she would give a half a million dollars from her trust fund to her parents. He was mad because she gave away a chunk of her money without having a real in depth conversation with him. Prior to the trust fund issue, he was grumpy because he was bored. Without a job he had nothing else to do with his days. They weren't hard up for money, due to Amy's fat bank account, he was just bored. He literally created problems out of nothing. Nick ruined their fantasy bubble
This movie deserved way more awards. The actress that played Amy was cheated out of best actress at the academy. What a performance 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Fantastic show. I randomly chose to watch this im the cinema when it came out without a trailer or knowledge of the book, and i was pleasantly surprised
This is a fun film but as a former investigator, I guarantee you that there is ZERO chance that Amy gets away with it. Her story simply cannot withstand close scrutiny. The ex-boyfriend was a prime suspect. He would have already been placed under the microscope and the FBI would have detailed information on every move he made in the weeks following the "kidnapping."
As LEO I disagree. Desi, would be talked to, problem is they had a PRIME suspect early on. There was no need to “monitor” Desi, much less the manpower to do it. There was no reason to believe state lines were crossed to have the FBI involved. It’s possible with how high profile “Amazing Amy” is. But with prime suspect early & then arrested with solid evidence there is zero need to zero in on Desi. The real problem Amy has is AFTERWARDS, but no one wanted to ask those probing questions bc on the surface they checked out. Yea the local detective didn’t buy it but she explained in the movie. Bc we bungled this invest no one wants to listen to us. Which is a reality, credibility is everything.
Having an affair with a grown adult in college, and consensually---IS NOT PREDATORY. IF EVERYTHING MEN DO FOR SEX IS PREDATORY, THAN NOTHING IS PREDATORY. WORDS HAVE MEANING.

lol hearing her initial thoughts about Amy and being on her side 20 mins in I had to come to the comments to see if we all saw it. Y’all didn’t disappoint.
I hate to say it, but I think it's very odd that Vicky has a habit of defending indefensible female villains. First Sam from Cobra Kai, and now Amy. The fucked up part is that even though Nick was a douche for cheating, he didn't deserve what Amy did. Not only that, Amy has a history of doing this to men who have "wronged" her. Yet, Vicky still finds away to lay the blame *equally* on both Nick and Amy, when Amy is a legit murderer. I'm just not understanding her mindset here at how she thinks Nick is even close to as bad as Amy. Also Nick never "gave up". That's just the narrative that Amy wove, what her perspective was. In reality, Nick lost his job, he lost his mother, he's in a relationship with a woman who is controlling and manipulative. He was depressed and miserable. Does that excuse the cheating? Absolutely not. But he was going to ask for a divorce, and I'm sure Amy knew that. Their whole relationship, Amy tried to mold Nick into someone that she liked, someone Nick wasn't. He didn't want the "Cool Girl", *she* wanted the "Cool Guy". And when he stopped living up to that expectation due to his severe depression, she went for the nuclear option, which is TOOOOOOTALLLY a reasonable reaction /s. Is Nick a douche? Yes. Did he ruin Amy's life and "steal" years from her? No. Is Amy the only real villain in this movie? Yes.
Came straight to the comments because I knew she would be defending Amy's actions lmao These are the people that make critical decisions in our world folks lmao
Amy is one of my favorite film psychopaths. Anton from NO Country For Old Men is my favorite of course. V, try reacting to the 50's 'The Bad Seed'. The 8 year old Rhoda is one of films great psychopaths and I know she'd be one of your favorite psychos.
The novel was originally inspired by the Scott Peterson case. He murdered his pregnant wife and her body turned up here in the Berkeley Marina. I was only 11 years old when it happened. But I remember all the coverage and media it attracted while living in the Bay area.
Huh. Isn't that like looking at John Wayne Gacy and writing a story where a birthday clown is framed for killing kids but really about toxic parents or something?
I love crime mystery especially when it's well done and consider this up there with Silence Of The Lambs in those terms as well as screenplay adaption being award worthy. A good mystery should show the audience everything before the reveal and rely on unreliable narrators and POV to hide it. This does it with multiple reveals. Getting that type of complexity on screen must a serious chore. Also the secondary plot. If I'm right and this film is a palindrome and that second plot runs from the end to the start which deals with the reality of the Dunne siblings feelings towards each other than forward to how Amy was observant of it and used it to become the type of girl Nick would be interested in. Likewise her disguise physically resembled Margo. Just so many little things here to be able to pour over and I love that.
Silence of the Lambs is not really a mystery though, it's more a "Will our hero sift through the details quick enough to make it to our villain's lair in time to thwart them?"
I’m surprised Rosamund Pike didn’t become a bigger deal after this, she’s so good in the movie and talented, you think she’d be the next Emily Blunt or Charlize Theron
How people even can feeling bad about Amy? Is cheating bad? Yes, it is, but it's nothing compared to attempting to murder who cheated on you. Idk how people can feel empathy for her, the movie literally makes u know that she is just bullshiting on the abuse that she suffered from his husband and that she wants to kill him for cheating In the fu* first half of the movie lmao
Awesome movie and the last great David Fincher movie. This reaction started out fine but as soon as he cheated all the logic flew out the window and she was very very based in her reaction. Amy is one of the best movie psychopaths in the 21th century but VKunia defended her far too much for my taste.
I'd say you give Amy way too much leniency. We know basically nothing about their relationship since all the flashbacks were fabricated by her and she's clearly a controling sociopath, hated by every character who actually knew her instead of just being manipulated by her. Yeah, Nick cheated on her but it was likely to find some solace in a marriage she made into living hell. People like Amy are often convinced they are victims of the situation but that's because they always see themselves as the main character held back by the supporting cast not meeting their expectations and criteria. That speech of hers is classic narcissism, the way she wants them to be is the proper way, the way he wants them to be is just him dragging her down. And in the end she didn't just divorce him, her plan was way more costly to her just so she can destroy his life.
Always felt like this movie and Closer (2004 Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Jude Law...please react to this movie sometime) were about the most honest movies about how f**ked up intimate human relationships can be with any sort of realism. I feel like we've either forgotten or refuse to speak on how important honesty is in a relationship, and the horror that kind of vulnerability can bring about. These two movies force that in our face in a jarring way. What both of those movies also show us is how naïve, selfish, and childish we often are in these types of relationships, to a hellish extreme. It's scary how dark people can be, and how that darkness can manifest when we try to let our guard down with another in intimacy. Also I don't care what anyone says, this is a horror film, straight up. And V, a little scared and scarred by some your reactions on this one, but that's what makes it a great story/film. It challenges us to question a lot of dynamics that we often don't feel comfortable discussing, especially gender dynamics in hetero relationships. Sleep tight y'all
I don't think I've ever seen a reactor defend Amy like Vkunia has 😂.

I think this movie is the perfect detector of psychopaths just by observing their reaction
Yes, very unhinged
Thanks for being vulnerable as a man even though that is still not very acceptable in society. More of this.
@@genegray9895 yessir. I don't think guys should be wimps, but holding everything in just isn't good. Gotta let some things out every once and awhile 💯
@ghostfacekiller891 you clearly didn't read my entire comment. I literally said that Nick deserves the criticism. But that doesn't give her the right to *frame him for murder*
I said like 3 times that I'm not saying Nick didn't deserve it, I was pointing out how people are so quick to excuse Amy because of her environment, yet we never do the same for men. 🤦🏻
Yeah she hates men cause her ex and she's quite annoying in this lol
1:55 Fun Fact..Gillian Flynn the author of the book also wrote the script for this movie.
One of the things I did wish they included from the book (Gillian Flynn did write the screenplay) was at the end, where the events of the film are pretty much similar but (and it's been years since I've read the book so I'm paraphrasing) but with the baby on the way Nick saws "You'll have to be you when the baby comes."
Nick recognizes that Amy will never change and that he’s bound to her by the life of their child, needing to keep up the appearance of a loving husband for the sake of their unborn child. This ending encapsulates Flynn's dark portrayal of love, marriage, and identity, as both characters are trapped in a toxic cycle that neither can escape.
Her sticking up for the woman at all times was so funny lmao
it´s scary, a lot of women are like her these days. Feminazis is the right name for it
scary*
95% of her generation thinks the same
38:42 - "Is it bad I think she's right?"
Yes, yes it is.
This is one of those movies - like Passengers - where I wonder what it would have been like or how it would have been received if the genders had been flipped...
I don't think this story would be nearly as well received if it was written by a man, I think it NEEDED to be written by a woman.
Younger brother, Casey Affleck put out a banger movie about a "Gone Girl" 7 years before this. GONE BABY GONE. Great movie with a ridiculous cast.
That movie was directed by Ben Affleck
I'm trying to figure out who this reactor would side with in that one, as it's morally ambiguous and there's no real clear villain for her to root for
I'll have to check it out!! I love when a movie is done so well it makes you constantly second guess who to root for/who is the true villain (if there even is one) 👀😊

“She is very vengeful”
You don’t say
Sociopathic woman defends psychopathic woman for roughly 40 minutes.
I love how the plot challenges the stereotypical public narrative and genre tropes
This is a fun film but as a former investigator, I guarantee you that there is ZERO chance that Amy gets away with it. Her story simply cannot withstand close scrutiny. The ex-boyfriend was a prime suspect. He would have already been placed under the microscope and the FBI would have detailed information on every move he made in the weeks following the "kidnapping."
yeaaahh no, look at the favourable justice system towards women...
Are you ready? Rosamund Pike will never not be Amy after you watch this movie
You were the only person I’ve ever seen ride for her as long as you did it says a lot about you
"Believe women!"
This movie is an example of why that doesn't always happen
and for people who think this only happens in movies/books, we got amber heard who did most of this short of murder
The next film I recommend you watch is “Nobody” from 2021 staring Bob Odenkirk.
Ain't no "strong women" in it
What I learned from this reaction, never cheat on V.
If this was a man : "Omg, what a monster, scum of the earth"
If it`s a woman : "Oh hahahahaha she is so smart. Hahahahahahahah, she`s a genius"
Tells you everything you need to know.
In the book Nick is attracted (even a little aroused) by Amy's scheming.
Semi-spoiler: Well, that's because in the book Nick is more like her.
This is the creepiest reaction to this movie I’ve seen 😂
lol hearing her initial thoughts about Amy and being on her side 20 mins in I had to come to the comments to see if we all saw it. Y’all didn’t disappoint.
I think the rumors about VKunia's dysfunctional relationship might be true. She seems to really hate men.
yes sir
It's a movie. Relax.
@@thubelihlezondi5822 cluster of red flags throughout the movie ...
Which rumors?
@@wsbchk_ she had a video made on her @ TH-cam.
After watching Gone Girl the thing most on my mind was if they have kid(s); I can't imagine how they will survive with them as their parents.
Films great it was like it switches genre every 20 mins like you think it's about one thing and it just develops. Very unique, I loved it
13:38 That whole reaction was perfect 😂😂
Yes.
As a long time Warlord, I approve of this reaction.
I never feel clean after watching this movie....
If you want this caliber suspense in a thriller watch "The Game" ( same director )
I'm sorry are we sympathizing with Cramy now? This seems more twisty than the movie itself.
Came straight to the comments because I knew she would be defending Amy's actions lmao These are the people that make critical decisions in our world folks lmao
David Fincher's last great film before he became just the Netflix streaming guy.
Amy is one of my favorite film psychopaths. Anton from NO Country For Old Men is my favorite of course. V, try reacting to the 50's 'The Bad Seed'. The 8 year old Rhoda is one of films great psychopaths and I know she'd be one of your favorite psychos.
Rhoda was awesome and manipulative. She became so problematic, God had to strike her with lightning.
Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails did the music for this film
This movie is why I have trust issues.
1st grade math has your head spinning, sweetie
genius psychopath
The chick reacting to this clearly believes cheating is punishable by death, which is utterly insane😂
21:15 Yeah, I hope your BF or GF sees this :P You had the exact opposite reaction to 99% of people, lol.
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
Rosamund Pike's gotta have the most soothing voice ever.
I'd love to listen to audiobooks of hers.
She does all the voices in her Wheel of Time audiobooks, with accents.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Oh thanks, good to know. I will definitely check that out.
Thank you for this video, i don't feel so lonely tonight
The novel was originally inspired by the Scott Peterson case. He murdered his pregnant wife and her body turned up here in the Berkeley Marina. I was only 11 years old when it happened. But I remember all the coverage and media it attracted while living in the Bay area.
Huh. Isn't that like looking at John Wayne Gacy and writing a story where a birthday clown is framed for killing kids but really about toxic parents or something?
Rosamund Pike is 🔥🔥🔥
I love happy endings 😂
Ozark is GREAT SHOW please finish it, the last seasons are amazing. I want reactions!!
It was like watching a tennis match V.
You look incredible today VKuina.
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊
I was horrified when I noticed the difference in the BGM between the first scene and the last scene.
I’m surprised Rosamund Pike didn’t become a bigger deal after this, she’s so good in the movie and talented, you think she’d be the next Emily Blunt or Charlize Theron
She's not a bad actress but she didn't have the consistent great performances like Blunt and Theron.
dont care if shes evil , shes one of the best characters i've ever seen
How people even can feeling bad about Amy? Is cheating bad? Yes, it is, but it's nothing compared to attempting to murder who cheated on you. Idk how people can feel empathy for her, the movie literally makes u know that she is just bullshiting on the abuse that she suffered from his husband and that she wants to kill him for cheating In the fu* first half of the movie lmao
Feminism.
And in the end she didn't just divorce him, her plan was way more costly to her just so she can destroy his life.
gotta check out the rest of David Finchers filmography
Sleep tight y'all
2014 was such year for movies, Gone Girl is amazingly good 9/10 and is not even in my top 5 of that year
You need to have a word with yourself, luv.
A good movie with your great reactions thank you awesome V.
