I wonder if that KF8 is the same "puck" size? I imagine you can dose it up to two serves of coffee anyway. Was interesting that in this review it says it's a 1oz puck size whereas similar JURA models are 2oz... JURA is also a lot more expensive
@@jamcofec 15g is the largest commonly agreed upon dose size for the KF series, I do not think they lost it anywhere officially. The KF series all use the same brew group so they will all be the same apart from more recipes and the ability to do non dairy milk. It is common for a double shot of espresso to have a 14-20ish gram dose size. If you are unfamiliar with the term dose, it is the weight of ground coffee that goes into a shot of espresso.
Any freshly roasted beans are going to work. Personal taste is another matter. But I've not ever heard of having to buy a specific bean for a specific machine. If there isn't a grind selector then this is just a dust collector or maybe large door stop.
There is a sliding grinder setting above the brew group behind the panel. They probably moved it there because of the removable bean hopper. Hopefully that should be able to give you a stronger cup of coffee. The next model up kf8 has two stronger coffee settings you can select without touching grinder settings.
@@ComputerStuff One last comment…..I purchased the Kf7 yesterday and was worried after watching your review, because I love strong espresso as well. It took this machine about 12 drinks to settle in on the bean I was using to get the strength and flavor I’m looking for. Settings are…3 bean strength, body…strong….grinder setting to fine. I purchased the Kitchenaid Kf7 and the Jura S8 to see which one I will keep. Kitchenaid is winning because of the extra expense Jura requires to keep it clean which is very costly. Taste and strength are almost even with a slight edge to Jura on flavor.
@@nicholasgeorge2424 I definitely went beyond the break in period on mine. Still couldn't get the strength dialed in despite having settings like yours and grinder set up. Agree'd on the KF series vs the Jura. This is a superior machine in almost every way (other than coffee?) lol. Jura's are too complicated, fragmented, and need unnecessary maintenance.
I have a KF8 and was able to improve the coffee by changing the grind size. I dont know if you have the option to do this on the KF7, but it was just a small slider above the handle on the brew unit.
I’m very surprised you struggled to pull a strong drink, I can’t go above the level three strength. And as you have seen others comment the grind adjuster is behind the panel
I have my mind made up to get a super automatic bean to cup. I want a jura Z10 but for $4k there’s other things I want more. Almost settled on the delonghi eletta explore. Anything you think is better right now?
Great question, if I recall it has different levels of heat you can select from but I did not temp test the coffee. You're correct though, a lot of automatics pull too cold.
Great review! Would you recommend the kitchen aid over the new Philips 5500 lattego? I’m looking to spend no more than $1200, so what would you recommend. I do care about the flavor of my espresso/cappuccinos/americanos. Oh and the grind settings have to be changed on the inner panel while you’re grinding I believe on the kitchen aid.
I would still recommend the Kitchen Aid over the Phillips, yes. And yes you can adjust grind size on the Kitchen Aid - and you should. You need to find that "sweet spot"
hope you can help me. I am in each of a machine that makes the best coffee as hassle free as possible. I have a Phillips 3200 and the coffee is bitter no mater what bans and settings. I had a McMaster and that was not what i hoped. Thanks in advance.
Not a fan of the Phillips machines. Are you looking to purchase a new automatic machine? I'm testing a Bosch right now - hoping that will be the answer. We'll post a video soon.
@@ComputerStuff I like the Philips in some ways, but the coffee sucks. I have had 3 machines and coffee taste same in all of them. Looking forward to your Bosch video. Thanks
Shopping for a coffee maker now. I assume the KF8 would probably be the same. Its ashame, that a machine that seems to have all the right features you'd want in a multi-automatic coffee maker does not make good coffee. Out of all the machines you have tested that make all the different variant of coffees, which would you say has had the best tasting coffee?
I think the Gaggia has the best tasting coffee of the super automatics. I may give the KF series another shot though and try some different beans and techniques. I want to love it so bad, haha.
I just got this. Why does so much water accumulate underneath the tray? I don't see water splashing out the mug during the brewing process, yet water accumulates underneath the tray.
Do you know what the maximum dose of coffee for this machine is? Most Gaggia machines max out at 11.5 grams, while Jura goes as high as 16 grams. Coffee is generally measured in grams, btw, not ounces.
I had this same problem with the Breville barista touch express. Tasted terrible and I tried everything. Theres no way you could have some company and offer them a nice cup of coffee without going through you know what 😮😂. It would say a little more please. So I’d put in a little more. Then it would say too much. Coffee would go everywhere. So sad! I went back to a reg coffee pot and bought a frother
Do not put a milk container with tube in the refrigerator, as it can get plugged eventually. Remove the top with the tube and rinse it every time. You can put the container itself in the refrigerator.
Got to admit you had me in the first half I was thinking can I afford this thing? And then you got to the coffee. Lol. Just looking at those streams of espresso coming out of the spouts I can see that it wasn't performing anywhere close to optimally. Nope, I guess I'll have to save $1,700 and stick to my $40 stove top moka pot!

I like how 13 minutes into this review I learned that it brews totally s*** coffee
Appreciate you sticking with us that long 😅 - for what its worth I'm buying another unit and doing a retry. I loved everything else about the machine.
I own a KF8, which is the same brew unit and don't struggle to get good espresso. You can adjust grind size, dose, and temperature.
Also, if you were drinking the "coffee" it's pretty much an Americano, not drip coffee. I wish they would have left that off the menu.

Jura does have a bigger puck size in some of their models. If someone can weigh in on if the KF8 has bigger puck I'd like to know as well.
Yes. This is not the only machine that mislabels drip for americano however. Delonghi is guilt as well and I believe Philips too.

I’d imagine with super automatics they err heavily on the side of grinding too coarse?
I'd wager youre correct on that one.
looking at the used puck, its not grinding fine enough
Grind harder.... that's what she s- ..... oh never mind...
Have you been able to get a better tasting cup out of this machine? I’m really disappointed that you found the coffee tasting bad.
I haven't. Several bags of beans later I still wasn't blown away. It's a shame.. such a fantastic product, but the brew components need a redo.
It is going to be due to the inability to change grind sizes... It probably grinds the coffee really coarse and it looks like it tastes very watery.
