Absolutely amazing violinist. In spite of dealing with his unique view of the world, in a world so focused on what sells...I truly wonder, what would Paganini think of this interpretation. This seems true to his soul and to music. Simply wonderful.
Once, when I was the concert master that accompanied his playing, right before he is going to play his encore piece(This one), he turn to me and said: Cap, let me tell you my secret... I am always angry... " then he start smashing the piece like the HULK...

Dare I add that his performance/technique/talent is significantly better than Ziyu He's 1st prize-winning performance of this piece in Menuhin 2016, or Ray Chen in 2008/2009 Menuhin/Queen Elizabeth.
He has the best technique in the world...better than James Ehnes,.Maxim Vengerov, and Ziyu He. Youngest to win Wienawski. Studied with Dorothy Delay but things did not work out. The reason is because he felt he could not learn much technique from her given his already. unbelievable technique. Eventually, he studied with Ruggiero Ricci who taught him much more as evident by his stratospheric technique. He plays with so much ease and without limitations. Remarkable musicianship. Please listen to his performance of "Schindler's List" and "Czardas"
@@hebrewsbituin8815 You have no idea just how much I agree with you. Sure, he plays this piece very quickly, but with absolutely no subtlety. He plays it fast as though he’s rushing through it with nothin in terms of musicality. And his sound is nowhere near the “technique” people think he has. I mean, just listen to Leonid Kogan’s version of this piece to see. This Li has such a hollow sound with no richness and texture as Kogan has. As a violinist myself, I recognize that my technique may not be like Kogan’s, certainly, but rather than emulate that, I try and emulate that sound. I try to play beautifully before I play virtuosically. Everybody is crying these days over violinists like Ray Chen or Anne Akiko Myers, and I can’t help but wonder why sometimes. And this isn’t a race thing. There are plenty of Asian musicians with beautiful sounds on their various instruments. Think people like Midori, Yo Yo Ma, or Mitsuko Uchida, to name but a few. It’s a shame that so many of the current celebrities just don’t follow the standard.
Unmatched.....not even close.....others are far behind.....much respect to all....the harmonics are so strong and loud....hose thrilled harmonics are not impossible ,but sound like the hardest things.......
We definitely need more violin talent like Li, Roman and others to show to the world. Compare with piano, violin playing techniques stand still for a long time.
I would say that he plays like Paganini. So talent, so virtuosos. This guy technique is perfect and his interpretation unbelievable. he can be compare with the best all the time!!
This guy is literally better than Ziyu! I mean, Ziyu made some very drastic changes while playing that piece, but only by listening to the first 10 seconds, I can already say this guy did way more changes!
He's struggling with his own world in his mind. He wants to express that through his violin, but obviously violin cannot not satisfy him. Probably no instrument really can. He is from outer space. His music is more than human being on the earth could afford.
There haven't been new stuff from him in years. Some Chinese users say that they've seen some private videos of him in the past 1-2 years on the Chinese net, so he still plays violin privately but I guess does not want to perform publicly.
Ведь что важно - техническая оснащённость разве может быть подменой Его величества МУЗЫКИ !?! Всё это должно быть только средством по пути к непревзойдённым гигантским следам, которые оставил на земле ПАГАНИНИ.
Noooooooooo, this is not what Paganini wrote. Leonid Kogan did MUCH better, in the Seventies, in his Fifties... People saying this sounds good are not musically proficient. Go see Leonid Kogan's interpretation and capture this song's TRUE essence.
Thank you!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. You recognize true beauty🤩 This actually hurt my ears to listen to. There is no richness in his sound, no texture, no warmth. All due respect to this violinist, but his sound is cold and hollow and devoid of life. He rushed through it and banged on his instrument. Kogan, meanwhile, made music, and that’s why I love his interpretation in particular as you seem to as well😉
His problem is, that he has almost no technical problems. So he adds some more to the piece. But I think, he should not spoil the composition with his addings. And no teacher could make him get rid of this silly habit to hold the bow with the left hand. Btw he plays untuned and also false notes. The pizzicato variation f.e. . So I rate him after Kogan, but far behind Prihoda, who is the King of " Nel cor più ...... " !
I think he adds more jazz like modifications to these pieces. He is not playing the original one at all. But it is totally fine because only this can please himself and be more special as well.
And also the out of tuned notes are deliberately played in my view. Just like microtonal music. In Chinese video website people commenting this performance has bad musically but with great skills as well
This was a sad performance, a prime example of flash over substance. Sure, he plays quickly, and I will say that his pizzicato is very clean, but that’s where his skill begins and ends. Where’s the sound to accompany the fast tempo? Where’s the richness of sound, and the texture? Pick any older violinist you wish, be it Ruggiero Ricci, Salvatore Accardo or, as a personal favorite, Leonid Kogan, and listen to their renditions of this piece. Notice how much cleaner their vibrato is, and how they take their time to elongate certain notes and vibrate lightly to provide a contrast to the quick runs. Notice how they differentiate between dynamics, playing certain parts softly, and certain ones with force, engaging a crescendo or a decrescendo when it is musically suited. And notice how rich and warm their sound is, even when they are at their most forceful, aggressive, and fast. They play beautifully before they play quickly and, as a violinist (albeit an armature one who’s concerts are only for friends and colleagues), I try to emulate this. I’m satisfied with playing something a little slower than the rest of it means I can play the notes perfectly in tune with clean vibrato and, most importantly, with a beautiful and rich sound for every single note, even the most “insignificant”. This was a cold, sterile, and rushed performance by a violinist with an extremely hollow sound and a sad excuse for a vibrato. Unfortunately, he is only one of many like him these days. And it’s not a race thing. There are plenty of Asian musicians who play their instruments beautifully, like Midori, or Yo Yo Ma on the cello and Mitsuko Uchida on the piano. However, notice the pattern. Leonid Kogan is from the time of Jascha Heifetz, and the above-mentioned musicians are getting old themselves. Is it an example of the future? Is this really the future, where virtuosity is valued over a beautiful sound? I hope not.
His musicality and phrasing are top notch, tf are you on about? Especially after the second half, and his textures are rich rivaling Kavakos and Kogan. I swear people who complain about "too much virtuosity" are casually listening to slow stuff with 15-20 notes played per minute with 90000% vibrato
@@aegeanenjoyer668 I never said he’s “too virtuosic”. I just said that his sound is cold and hollow. Heifetz probably set records that still remain mostly unbeaten when it comes to playing things quickly. And yet he still had an extremely warm, rich tone with beautiful phrasing. You are free to disagree with me as everyone’s ears are different, but this to me seems a classic case of an increasingly common trend these days, a violinist who prefers technique over sound and enjoys banging on their instrument as though it has done something to hurt them.
Absolutely amazing violinist. In spite of dealing with his unique view of the world, in a world so focused on what sells...I truly wonder, what would Paganini think of this interpretation. This seems true to his soul and to music. Simply wonderful.

He was the youngest player in history to place first in the Wieniawski competition at age 11!
Rachel.isnot thing compare to him.
Um isn’t he a bit too old for those competitions?
Definitely. But Dorothy Delay’s students have never competed in those competitions. I suppose with a well connected mentor there is no need.

Pitchy with intonation issues! Phrasing is weird. No me gusta!

Techniquement, le meilleur virtuose du violon au monde.

@Alden Eliseo yup, have been watching on FlixZone for since april myself :D
@Alden Eliseo Thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it !!
@Jamari Arian Happy to help :D
Unbelievable mastery that probably harks back to what the maestro himself was capable of (the pizzicatos are too good to be true)!
This is beautiful voice, if you close your eyes and listen he playing, it is much more.
It's much more fun for being able to play the violin yourself.
