    If there is anything even more technically difficult than Paganini's Caprices, it's this. It is absolutely, ridiculously, inhumanly, devilishly difficult! Listening to this you can begin to see why people in Paganini's time began to think he had made some kind of pact with the devil or something to be able to play like this, especially because in Paganini's time no one had ever heard the violin played like this before. And this Leonidas guy just makes it all look so easy.

      I know that this piece is fucking ridiculous, but IMHO Paganini's God Save the Queen variations, Ernst's Caprice after Schubert's Erlkonig, and Ernst's Last Rose of Summer are all much harder.

    only a violin player understands how hard those double harmonicsare. to other people its just some high notes while its much harder than that

      but... why it's hard? im really curious. is it because the uncomfortable fingering or hard to make a sound?

    • @IC40R
      @IC40R 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@lollol-co6ly that’s why it’s hard to play the violin in the first place. What’s hard about this piece in particular is the ricochet Boeing’s, left hand pitz, extremely fast scales and arpeggios ect... this piece showcases almost everything hard about violin.

      Because double stops not just double stops, you must place the two fingers or three or four at exactly the right spots on the fingerboard, yes, I mean exactly, to create harmonious cords. Otherwise, you got cacophonous noise. Watch those professionals how fast and how accurate they play. It’s very hard.

    i don't know if this is the exact right translation of it but Nel cor più non mi sento means I don't feel anything in my heart anymore.

    • @Ferdinand-es8zb
      @Ferdinand-es8zb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      In reality "Nel cor più non mi sento" is part of a phrase taken from the three-act musical comedy "La Molinara". The whole sentence is
      "Nel cor più non mi sento
      brillar la gioventù" and means "In my heart I no more feel the sparkle of youth". In fact, the only part "Nel cor più non mi sento" appears as an unfinished sentence.

    This one is spectacular, especially for a live recording - but I do so believe Leonid Kogan's interpretation is much more proficient. Leonidas has a new fan for sure though, great interpretation!

    what a beast! he even tried the no-bow left hand pizz scale at the end, a-la-Ricci. didn't quite pull it off, but what the heck.

      It's pretty damn good.... I know of professional violinists who have tried that and had very weak notes- it just sounded like a cigarette paper banging against the strings, but in my opinion Kavakos gave quite the attack here on that left-hand pizz passage and it sounded quite vibrant and clear! I think hearing it live would've been clearer.

    3:39 it is so fast, that on normal violin with normal response times you wouldn't hear anything, just buzzing noise. Kavakos has excellent violin so you can hear the notes for a fraction of miliseconds. I think it is a bit exxagerated for show. It should be played a tiny bit slower and intonation should be a bit more precise.

    Extremely based. I hear forced harmonics on the high Sul G part around 3:51! (Before and after the actual harmonic)
    Roman Kim was probably 5 years old or younger when this was recorded, this technique has existed for a while and there are recordings from Ricci (if not older) using them. It's not a hard technique on the violin to come up with and it can occur even accidentally, but it is very hard to use with consistency. Kim just used them more prolificly and introduced them to a wider audience, which is absolutely great because they sound amazing, but he didn't invent them.
    For reference, forced harmonics are only 50% as high as artificial harmonics.

    • @mariusfelixlange6709
      @mariusfelixlange6709 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no forced harmonics around 3:51.

    • @aegeanenjoyer668
      @aegeanenjoyer668 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mariusfelixlange6709 Not on the score, on Kavakos' rendition. Could be accidental, due to less finger pressure before and after the harmonic (with the least pressure, as commonly played by many).
      That being said, Ning Feng and Ricci (in the 70s and 80s) are on record live playing forced harmonics. Ricci on this piece (but elsewhere in the score).
