Which is why I LOVE season 3 episode 2 when she tells Chris “go be someone else’s dad!!” Ugh he’s the worst
agreed. he loved to shout he was her dad but when was he ever there, really? he eventually pays for her education but apart from that, he was never really present and it's not acknowledged enough at all throughout the show
I find something interesting about Lorelai's speech about the spoiled kids of the Life and Death Brigade. As she's giving this speech, she's doing something similarly spoiled. She rearranges Emily's seating chart for her own mean-spirited amusement. Then when she finds out Emily fired the woman (and will no doubt destroy her professional reputation because that's what Emily does) she makes no move to rectify the situation. She let this woman take a serious hit because she was playing around and didn't want to own up to what she did. Because mommy would yell at her.

And then later on in the season Lorelai decides Logan is a bad person when he's at dinner at her parents' and does something similar with his LBD game of switching out one of Emily's tchotchkes with one he stole from someone else's house and almost (or does? I haven't seen that episode in awhile) gets the maid fired for it. Lorelai can't even recognize her own hypocrisy. I will always always point out that Logan has just in much in common with Lorelai as he does with Christopher.
Lorelai has always been incredibly entitled. She just found the community to give her exactly what she wants, upholding that attitude.
she also did this with Emily's 'girl's etiquette class?' event, she handled the glassware, then let Emily yell at a worker for 'fingerprints'

I don’t love Logan but he was definitely upfront with Rory which is A++++ he knew Rory was looking for something different than what he was so he didn’t pursue it.
Also Spoiler but I respect that when Rory realized the casual thing wouldn’t work for her she didn’t try to give him an ultimatum. She went to him to make it clear that she had to end it because the arrangement wasn’t working for her.
rory’s suit was definitely one of my favorite look of hers in the show as someone whos also attracted to women lol
14:14 - Lorelai didn’t cheat on Luke, she just lied about going over to see Chris (though it was Rory’s idea to lie...), because she didn’t want Luke to be uncomfortable, leading to this mess. What always annoyed me about this though is how you can clearly see here that Luke would have been understanding of it if she’d just told him - we hear a lot about how his own dad’s death affected him, and he’s immediately sympathetic to Chris. 🤦♀️
Logan's super charismatic but idk man. The chemistry between them doesn't feel all that genuine. Rory's also a worse version of herself around him imo.

I think that of the guys she dated on the show, he was the best boyfriend to her. But yes, the version of Rory that he brings out is the worst version of her. He definitely does not make her better. I don't dislike him, but if they were real people, he isn't who I would want for her to end up with.
I think Rory is the worst version of herself at Yale before Logan even gets involved

In the Netflix episodes, they do ignore their homophobia mainly because Michelle is finally allowed to be gay? But they make up for it by ramping up on the fatphobia. There's a loonngg scene where both Lorelai and Rory talk about how disgusted they are with someone's body. Ya know just cute mother daughter stuff....

Lorelai says these people feel entitled to get what they want when they want it and it's so selfish--while changing the seating chart to her liking, not just to get what she wants but to hurt someone else. Interesting ethics there, Lorelai.
I'd definitely recommend Lorelai's Graduation Day as your next watch! It explains a lot of the Jess×Rory×Dean storyline
For future Gilmore Girls' reactions I'd suggest:
- 1x10 "Forgiveness and Stuff"
- 1x03 "Kill me now" (to understand how Rory and her Grandfather have a very wonderful relationship).
- 2x21 "Lorelai's Graduation Day"
- 3x16 "The Big One" (one of the funniest freak-outs ever!).
P.s. I agree with everything Lorelai said about the rich kids in "I Jump, You Jump, Jack" too!

Some of us are in agreement with you 100% re: Life and Death Brigade (rich college kid group). Not everyone loves "I Jump, You Jump, Jack." Some of us despise that whole group of people. lol

I for one don't despise them...I just find them utterly boring and self indulgent. They add nothing to the series but showcase Rorys weaknesses which SPOILER would have been nice if she ever reflected on those and did something about them like...evolve...but the movies showed: NOPE!
I don’t like the brigade but I like the episode.
I don't like the brigade, but I would still love to have the chance to be at a meeting of some old secret club and write an article about it.
A really funny one is Season 6 Episode 5: We've got magic to do. Great Paris episode, Rory in a stylized WWII USO show "uniform", and Sookie's parenting on display.
yes!!! one of my favorite episodes. also live and let diorama is a really funny episode. i always laugh really hard at the breakfast table conversation and paris in the street begging for change

YES. Call that stupid Life and Death Brigade shit OUT. I have no idea why that episode was recommended, I legitimately think its one of the worst and definitely does nothing to make Logan seem appealing as a love interest.

I love the episode, because one of the big reasons I would like to be a journalist is because I like to see and understand how other people live and I just in general like to experience new, interesting things. What I'm trying to say is, while I do understand why people find them annoying, I would love to have the chance to be a fly on the wall at the party of some secret elite club of stupid college students.

Not sure why people think we liked the life and death brigade. As far as episodes go, the events were interesting, immersive and great set up for things to come, especially for Rory. Really not sure why it's assumed that what we liked were the actual members of the brigade itself lmaooo.
Although Colin, Finn and I forget the third one have a very entertaining and comedic dymamic imo, but no I probably wouldn't want them as personal friends.
Why do people gravitate and hyperfocus on liking or disliking characters, when maybe its just stories and scenarios they set up that people are enjoying apart from characters?
Most of the episode was her trying to interact with them and failing miserably because they were so weird. Made everything less fun, especially compared to the interactions with the townsfolk.

As for A Year In The Life.... while I don't recall any gay "jokes", the other topics they came up with were just as horrible (domestic violence jokes, fat jokes, etc.). It was pretty awful and definitely left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. I prefer to pretend the majority of AYITL did not happen.

Love this episode and reaction! I got married two months ago and our mutual female friend was in my husband's grooms party. Me and her decided she would wear a suit and she loved it, but I specifically took inspiration from this episode haha

It's interesting that the majority of the recommendations are coming from the earlier seasons. I think the slope starts somewhere in the second half of season five (after this episode).

During the whole series Logan really develops character. He has like the opposite arc of Rory. But I love the time period when they "meet in the middle".
Season 5 episode 8, the party's over! It has Emily and Richard acting up AND Rory and Dean drama.

season 2 episode 13- "a-tisket, a-tasket" has a lot of that jess/dean rivalry which is always fun

If you’re looking for the most uncomfortable episode it’s probably Vineyard Valentine season 6 episode 15
I really liked that episode, honestly.
As I kid I was happy that that random character guy at the party was explaining 2nd cousins versus cousins once removed cuz my mom was the random guy at the party explaining that everywhere we went and no one ever understood it 😂

I think Logan made a good point in the Life and Death Brigade episode--George Plimpton's whole career was doing the thing he reported on, and if Rory wants to be a reporter, trying different kinds of journalism while still working for the Yale student newspaper is a good thing. I wish he would have mentioned Nellie Bly, though.

As far as the anti-gay commentary goes, it never gets addressed because this is early to mid 2000s and that crap was still socially acceptable. Plus, it aired alongside super Christian 7th Heaven.

Supposedly Sookie was originally lgbt and the network didn't agree. It also always baffled me how they constantly make fun of people's weight but not Sookie's and they also don't make those jokes when she's there. Feels two faced

Exactly. Rory going to Yale and meeting Logan and his friends really turned her into the entitled spoiled rich kid Lorelei never wanted her to be and I personally cannot understand how you can like any of these characters.
@@Romy-90 I think the spoiled Rory transition started when she began spending more time with Emily and Richard. She wanted to be a debutant and use their money and connections long before she started Yale.
@@Romy-90Rory was always going to be an entitled, spoiled kid because she started the series that way. She just got more and more access to rich people and their lifestyle which is why it became more noticeable - she began to expect things that weren't "normal" to expect for the middle class. Money amplified her personality, it didn't change it.
That kiss story seemed odd at the time. Lorelai has boundary issues, but I wouldn't expect that.
From a fourteen-year-old version of Lorelai though? I don't find it especially unbelievable.

Ok, Emily becomes more lovable as time goes on in my opinion. But as someone who has had an opinionated mother, you know it comes from a place of love and panicked concern. Although it would be hell to change yourself to her standards. But the more her daughter pulls away, the more she gives up her views to have her around. She just wants Lorelai in her life. And if you'd watch it all and god I hope you'll watch it all someday, and the movies, you can't help but feel for her. And yeah, she's rich blah blah. Yes, some people are rich and they get to certain standards that they get used to. I am not saying it's not horrible that she lacks empathy for a lot of things but I don't think people with less money are that loving either. I talk to them all day, they're just as mean. So, I am sorry, I don't harbor hate for rich people as others do. All people. regardless of how much money they have can be horrible. And they all can change. And also, we all gotta survive, rich or otherwise. I really wish you'd see the whole show and give us your opinion, especially on Emily. And also, the movies, specially for her. I find Emily to be really close to my heart. Anyone who's ever had someone in their life who can't express their love and yet still try their best to keep you around 'cause they do love you but can't understand your point of view even if they try, can feel so much for Emily. Also, the actress did such a good job. Like, hat's off to the actress.
Her being rich is a source of her dislikability though. She looks down on Luke solely because she thinks he's less than them. But I agree, anyone can be the bad guy.

Even someone who wants their child to be happy and nothing else, they'd probably be less vocal about it but they'd still worry if they have enough money to live well. Emily clearly wants her to marry up, but despite her selfishness, she did let her do whatever at the end of the day. I really wish you'd see the whole show man. Pff, maybe one day. I can't wait to see that vid.
@@nothanks5162 Luke is a successful small business person but the Gilmores and Emily in particular still looked down on him because he doesn’t live in a mansion or whatever. I agree though that Emily becomes more likable as the series progresses. We see more of her vulnerability and not just her snobbery or her controlling nature.

My favorite part was Lorelai telling Emily she's done with her....should have happened a long time ago IMO. Least favorite part was Luke storming off without listening to Lorelai's side. Yes, she was wrong for not telling him about her visit to Christopher's (actually, her going was a stupid idea, but that was a different ep), but Luke can see on her face that she doesn't understand/agree with Christopher about them being destined to be together.
they really could have left out that line where logan says "i feel like im kissing a guy".... so completely unnecessary.

There's a full on fist fight between Luke and Christopher amid large Christmas decorations and at one point Luke clocks Chris after he hooks up with Lorelai. Fights on "Gilmore Girls" are minimal because of the viewers.

I'm a size 8 1/2 shoe, and I'm about 6 inches shorter than Lorelai. I think Luke should have specified women's size 9, because they were fisherman's boots. They may only have men's sizes, but they's know which one to order that would translate to a women's size 9. Anyway, it was quicker this way.
