everyone loves season 1 Rory, because she reminds us of our childhood, our innocent, happy, fearless days. we dislike season 7 Rory because she reminds us of our mistakes, the detours we made, the times we didn't choose right, we didn't learn from our mistakes, our stagnation, not growing. I don't hate season 7 Rory, I hope she snaps out of this rut

Isn't that more Season 6? Season 7 ends with Rory turning down Logan's marriage proposal, and pursuing the career she always dreamed of after getting back on her feet. To me that's why AYITL was such a gut-punch to a lot of fans.

It’s not uncommon for golden children to crash and burn because they can’t handle failures
There’s a real great analysis on this by TH-camr Neisa Teresa-it is a real good one about Rory Gilmore, and sheds light on the fact that Rory is just a person and that we just idealized her character. It really changed my hate for the character around to compassion and understanding.
I agree about Dean! He’s so intense and unnecessarily obsessed with Rory. Are the writers trying to say we need to emulate Dean’s adoration for her? Was a weird relationship
The way Dean acted was close to abusive and controlling. Throughout a lot of seasons it’s like Rory kept apologizing to Dean for every little thing. Then in season 2 when he got mad about the basket thing and her doing the debutante ball. He was very controlling in the show but it’s like they try to portray him as this good guy.
Speaking to the Dean at the dance situation - refusing to fight was actually a great showing of confidence and maturity imo. I’ve been in Dean’s shoes, and A LOT of guys his age would’ve gotten in the fight, but he kept it on a leash. And saying he would kill him if they did actually disrespected him more than the fight would’ve.
the bangles concert episode is one of my favorites just for the reason that it got me into the bangles and from then on there hasn’t been a day when i didn’t listen to the bangles
I am currently rewatching GG (one of my favorite/comfort shows) and watching this knowing what I know now the trauma in this show is THICK. Lorelei (and many of the characters) respond in Trauma and Fear ALOT. I’m so happy to have found your channel. I always start watching season 1 again on October 5 every year since it's come to Netflix. The original air date was October 5, 2000 and it def. feels like the right time of year to start the binge cycle again.
This show never really got better than season 1. “Rory’s Birthday Parties” to season 2’s “Bracebridge Dinner” is really an elite stretch. And it’s a shame Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop never got Emmy nominations for this series. If Ally McBeal and Sex and The City were awards faves at that time this show should have been as well. And a lot of this show has aged better than those shows. Lauren and Kelly would have won multiple awards if this show wasn’t on the WB.
Because of you I started trying to look at other gilmore girls deep dives...and they weren't it. I hope you continue because you're just stating facts. There are way too many emily and richard apologists...and just no. Like Lorelei had been abused you can't just brush over that.
Not to say that you weren't amazing (you were) I just didn't know that others were into the show like that and I wanted to see some other hot takes too but they all seem to think Lorelei was the asshole in the situation and wtf she tried more than either of them ever did.
I’m just watching Gilmore Girls for the first time ever. I’m on season 4 and I’m loving it. I love all the character development and storylines! Started watching in September, right when the leaves started falling and it was THE coziest evening I’ve had in a long time. I drank hot coffee, ate a pizza and had some Candy; Lorelai and Rory would have been proud. I’m now la-la-la-ing throughout my days. Can’t wait to rewatch every year now in the Fall. 🤎🍁🍂☕️

I’m on season 4, and I noticed a huge difference between season 3 and 4 instantly. Not too sure what it is 🤔 but season one really made me fall in love with the show. It truly is a comfort show, it doesn’t talk about politics or anything like that so it can take your mind off the real world. It truly is a great show 🙌🏻
So the whole part about dean saying I’ll kill you at the dance I feel like it was a reference to the breakfast club when Bender says that to the preppy athlete and I feel like they did that to illustrate him as like this “bad motorcycle boy” but it also doesn’t make sense bc they also paint dean as kind of this all American boy who works at a supermarket too. It’s like this weird contrast that makes his character confusing and vague

You just convinced me to rewatch GG for the first time since my first watch like, 5 years ago. I’ve always been reluctant to rewatch because I have such a love-hate relationship with the writing. The feeling of cognitive dissonance where it feels like I’m watching a tv show about tragedy and generation abuse and tragic flaws, but also feeling the show thinks it’s 100% happy times, everyone is great and no one is ever abusive! That icky mismatched feeling has held me back from rewatching for YEARS. But your content is a really good balance to that!

I relate so hard on not watching Christmas episodes when it’s not Christmas time. I loved this video. Gilmore Girls is also my comfort show and has been since 2000. No one at my school growing up watched it and it wasn’t until the revival that I realized so many others felt the same!
i had been looking for GG content the last few weeks, and I felt YT is really lacking in videos analyzing the show. My favorite mug is the one my daughter gave e that says "You are the Lorelai to My Rory" and then I gave her a mug that says "You are the Rory to my Lorelai". My daughter and I grew up to Gilmore Girls and still text each other long distance when one of us is watching old Gilmore shows and send each other Gilmore clips regularly. I really love your videos and that in the last few years there’s been a Gilmore girl renaissance and people coming out saying they love it and also new people discovering it! It is not a perfect show by any means but I have not found a show that celebrates growing up as a girl, womanhood and familial relationships. Also I truly feel Max was perfect for loerelai even tho I love her and like together too! Every time I watch that part it pains me so much.
This is amazing!!! XD I started watching Gilmore Girls in 2007 with my friend and sister (mostly reruns of the older seasons until I could manage to collect the seasons slowly on DVD. [ahhh pre-streaming days...XP]). It's so cool to see the continual discovery of the show as time goes one. You have a great voice! Singing *and* speaking! And uh, god, I hated so many of the old men in this show. The "gotcha" mentality of the principal and Lorelai's dad. He liked Rory but not because he just liked his grandchild. He liked her because he saw someone that has the same "values" as him, while being disappointed in his daughter for having wishes that don't fit his own life plans.

Well, she does second guess herself about the decision to run away. And she should. It wasn’t the best decision. She wasn't being abused by her parents, just controlled. At 16, I guess that seemed unbearable for her. But she could have stuck it out in the mansion with free room and board at least long enough tho graduate high school and find a decent job. As an adult, she should be able to see that now.
thanks for all your hard work! i love discussing the gilmore girls😍🙏 season 1 perfectly catched emilys narcissm, the later seasons (and the fans who came with it) excused it always with "she has feelings too". maybe thats why the vibe is so.. intense. that the gilmores hype christopher despite he didn't do anything means perfect sense. idk if you touched that in your emily video, but to narcissts only the surface counts. he can be truly horrible to lorelai yet he will always be the golden boy -because secretly they wish for lorelai to like them. for chris, they don't really care in the end. and thats why it was so important for richard to make lorelai understand his protection -they don't listen to feelings, only obligations. idk if he is a narcissist, he is only proud. you truly can glance at lorelais upbringing from different angles. i'm looking forward to discussing season 2 where everyone was team dean and anti jess and it was just such a small town vibe 😄✨

AAAAAAHHHHH I LOVE THIS SHOW OH SO MY MUCH!! My life has never been the same. I was in 6th grade when it came on the WB and watched it live, commercials, “previously on” and “next week on GG.” I even had my own personal fan club at school. OBSESSED 😅 SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT FINISHED THE ENTIRE OG SERIES!!! The lala’s are a huge part of the show, I usually sing along or also make up my own very short phrases like when Dean or Christopher show up on screen “heeereee weee gooo aaaagggaaaainnnn…” or my favorite “shut the f*** uppppppppppp” 🎶 Rory and Lorelai both say the same exact line both times - “You sound happy” “I AM kid.” Definitely felt more legitimate with Luke especially after the “bit” also known as Luke slamming his head accidentally into the stove - the groan is my favorite part 😂 I like Sookie until she becomes business partners with Lorelai, she does some things I can’t back her up on. But she IS hilarious and I love that part about her up until the revival which.. I also didn’t like much. I am 5’8 which apparently makes me tall for a female as well so I can relate. I also wear a size 9 shoe sooouuuu.. the one who belongs at a circus is YOU Rune. I’ve ever liked Max (controlling/manipulative/bad tempered) or Dean (same). The fact that Dean is very emotionally abusive is never discussed and he’s always made out to be this perfect first boyfriend makes me ILL.
the LALAs!!! also, if you're rewatching Gilmore Girls for the 13324th time and want to spice up the theme song, i'd highly suggest switching to 1.5x speed after the first line (if you're out on the road, feeling lonely and so cold ~switch to 1.5x speed now ~). It's a BOP.
I watched the series recently and it was great. In fact, I enjoyed it a lot that by Season 3, I've decided to spoil myself read how all the characters ended up but I was disappointed that the some of the characters like Rory turned bad in later seasons.

I relate so hard on not watching Christmas episodes when it’s not Christmas time. I loved this video. Gilmore Girls is also my comfort show and has been since 2000. No one at my school growing up watched it and it wasn’t until the revival that I realized so many others felt the same!
i had been looking for GG content the last few weeks, and I felt YT is really lacking in videos analyzing the show. I guess since it was from a previous era -before social media- people are just catching up to it, so it's been pretty awesome to find your channel and see you have a lot to say. The video about the manipulative ways of Emily was excellent. Looking forward to the next seasons

My favorite mug is the one my daughter gave e that says "You are the Lorelai to My Rory" and then I gave her a mug that says "You are the Rory to my Lorelai". My daughter and I grew up to Gilmore Girls and still text each other long distance when one of us is watching old Gilmore shows and send each other Gilmore clips regularly. I really love your videos and that in the last few years there’s been a Gilmore girl renaissance and people coming out saying they love it and also new people discovering it! It is not a perfect show by any means but I have not found a show that celebrates growing up as a girl, womanhood and familial relationships. Also I truly feel Max was perfect for loerelai even tho I love her and like together too! Every time I watch that part it pains me so much.
Yeah I hate seeing Lorelai cry. Every time she cries I cry too it’s so bad😭

This is amazing!!! XD I started watching Gilmore Girls in 2007 with my friend and sister (mostly reruns of the older seasons until I could manage to collect the seasons slowly on DVD. [ahhh pre-streaming days...XP]). It's so cool to see the continual discovery of the show as time goes one. And uh, god, I hated so many of the old men in this show. The "gotcha" mentality of the principal and Lorelai's dad. He liked Rory but not because he just liked his grandchild. He liked her because he saw someone that has the same "values" as him, while being disappointed in his daughter for having wishes that don't fit his own life plans.
!!! This. I agree. At the root, they feel like Rory is their do-over

And as an aside, but not directly to the 'side' per se, but more...SIDE ADJACENT, if you will; I loved that the specific moments you showcased as your "moments that I laughed at", well, they were in fact, the very specific moments that White Claw was 'accidentally' released from my nose upon numerous viewings of the same moments throughout the years. There may or may not have been copious amounts of pizza released at the same time, but why get personal? I see no need.

I was glad that Richard stood up for lorelai but I didn't like that he still holds lorelai for leaving home when she was a teenager
Well, she does second guess herself about the decision to run away. And she should. It wasn’t the best decision. She wasn't being abused by her parents, just controlled. At 16, I guess that seemed unbearable for her. But she could have stuck it out in the mansion with free room and board at least long enough tho graduate high school and find a decent job. As an adult, she should be able to see that now.
It's also sad how Richard was more worried about their image rather than their daughter's safety whilst she was alone and pregnant

season 1 perfectly catched emilys narcissm, the later seasons (and the fans who came with it) excused it always with "she has feelings too". maybe thats why the vibe is so.. intense. that the gilmores hype christopher despite he didn't do anything means perfect sense. idk if you touched that in your emily video, but to narcissts only the surface counts. he can be truly horrible to lorelai yet he will always be the golden boy -because secretly they wish for lorelai to like them. for chris, they don't really care in the end. and thats why it was so important for richard to make lorelai understand his protection -they don't listen to feelings, only obligations. idk if he is a narcissist, he is only proud. you truly can glance at lorelais upbringing from different angles. i'm looking forward to discussing season 2 where everyone was team dean and anti jess and it was just such a small town vibe 😄✨

I was in 6th grade when it came on the WB and watched it live, commercials, “previously on” and “next week on GG.” I even had my own personal fan club at school. OBSESSED 😅

The lala’s are a huge part of the show, I usually sing along or also make up my own very short phrases like when Dean or Christopher show up on screen “heeereee weee gooo aaaagggaaaainnnn…” or my favorite “shut the f*** uppppppppppp” 🎶
Rory and Lorelai both say the same exact line both times - “You sound happy” “I AM kid.” Definitely felt more legitimate with Luke especially after the “bit” also known as Luke slamming his head accidentally into the stove - the groan is my favorite part 😂
I like Sookie until she becomes business partners with Lorelai, she does some things I can’t back her up on. But she IS hilarious and I love that part about her up until the revival which.. I also didn’t like much.

I watched the series recently and it was great. In fact, I enjoyed it a lot that by Season 3, I've decided to spoil myself read how all the characters ended up but I was disappointed that the some of the characters like Rory turned bad in later seasons.
