Emily Gilmore is manipulative and mean, but it is her broken way of dealing with her actual feelings and love for Lorelei --- which she definitely has. I love that she isn't just one-dimensional. Also, her growth (a little) as a person over the series isn't clear unless you watch all of the episodes, in order. ;)
Oh Emily absolutely loves Lorelai and craves a close relationship with her. But she and Lorelai are incapable of not being perpetually disappointed in one another, and Emily is really not good at discussing feelings. So she and Lorelai just constantly miss the connection. But once in a while you get these little glimpses like this.
"Getaway trip with Dean" caught me off guard and i burst out laughing out loud. I see the fanfiction you read got you good.

Jess is the reason Rory's in a cast. that's why he left, and why Luke and loralai are beefing. I actually don't like this episode because Rory's behavior is so cringy, but seeing Emily and Richard being so proud of Loralai is so unbelievably heartwarming.

I agree with that - one of my least favorite Rory episodes but seeing Richard and Emily proud of Lorelai makes me wanna cryyyyy.
I mean, Rory's 16/17 here? That's par for the course at that age.
Edit: Unless we're talking about her inviting Richard and Emily behind Lorelai's back. In which case I think that's wildly inappropriate of her. Still in character tho.
@@LaviniaDeMortalium I was referring to her crying and sobbing and denying her feelings for Jess and the way she worked herself up into a fit to make her mom take pity on her even though she was in the wrong.
@SorceressZila honestly I think it was sweet of her to invite Emily and Richard. She new loralai wanted them there but her pride was getting in the way of her asking them. And in the end, they had that beautiful moment that would never have existed otherwise.
The Dean jokes 😂 also I hadn’t seen this episode in a few years and seeing her parents get emotional at the graduation fully made me tear up 😅😭

you should definitely watch “teach me tonight” as it kind of explains why luke and lorelai were beefing, why jess left, and why lorelai is especially not happy with jess, as well as just overall being a pretty sweet and pivotal and eye-opening episode for rory and jess’ connection
AND it's a classic kirk episode, truly all hits no misses with that one

I really did not like Rory this episode. Truly. I was so mad that she missed Lorelai’s graduation. The fact she went to New York to see Jess, all while she was still coupled up with Dean.

Another fantastic video! I really hope you end up doing the whole series. The Lorelai/Dean “tension” is hilarious. Yes Emily has other emotions lol and it’s definitely unexpected every time. Shared trauma gang! As for suggestions, I agree with S4E2 “Lorelai’s First Day at Yale” that’s a classic for sure.
You should watch the season 3 episode 22: Those are strings Pinochio, season 4 episode 21 and 22: Last Week Fights, This Week Tights and Raincoats and Recipes. And of course (because you will have no idea of what is going on): season 6 episode 7: Twenty one is the loniest number.

If I can make a suggestion, one of my most favorite episodes is “Concert interruptus” S1 E13.
I think I shows how caring and giving of a mom Lorelai can be with a contrast of showing how strong she can be as a mom if Rory wasn’t such a well behaved teenager. Also it shows the first time Paris and Rory have a bonding moment.

You should definitely watch 'There's the Rub" in season 2. It's a love triangle episode but as a Team Jess girly I enjoy it haha! Its a good episode between Lorelai and Emily too.
Have you watched “Luke Can See Her Face” yet? It’s not a fan favorite that I know of, but “A Tale of Poes and Fire” is my favorite episode, lots of townie screen time.

I've been sick all week and with it also being a week off before next semester, I was inspired to start my own rewatch of the series! (I may or may not have already finished the first season in just a few days.) I have SO many episode recs, but for now, I absolutely concur with the consensus on "The Lorelais' First Day at Yale," as it's one of those episodes that I'll just watch by itself as a comfort thing.
This is actually one of the episodes that is the most upsetting. Least heartwarming! Who recommended this to you? I’d like to have a word with them.

You've likely heard of Amy Sherman Palladino, the show creator and runner, by this point. Her husband Daniel was her second in command on the show, but he was also working on Family Guy at the same time (even after GG ended), so I'd imagine that's how they got McFarlane. When you watched the pilot and saw the harpist, Drella, that actress Alex Borstein had a recurring role in S1 of GG (as well as other smaller roles that you haven't happened across). She was originally cast as Sookie, but then she got pregnant, so they recast with Melissa. Jackson Douglas, who played Sookie's husband Jackson, is played by Borstein's now ex-husband. But Borstein is also famous, beyond her later Palladino show-role in Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, for voicing Lois Griffin in Family Guy.
As to whether Jess broke Rory's heart- nope, just her arm at that point. In some of their ill-advised emotional cheating, they were driving around in the car Dean built from scratch for Rory (while they were supposed to be studying after Luke asked Rory to help tutor Jess) and there was a minor accident. Lorelai was furious at Jess, and also blamed Luke, so they had a big blowout, and Jess left town to go home to his mom in shame.
And you heard mention of Lorelai's business classes in the pilot- they were a continuing thing throughout seasons 1 and 2 until this point, but not ever really delved into until this episode. Mostly, it was just mentioned as a reason for Lorelai to be in Hartford fairly regularly (for her major S1 love interest and her to cross paths) and to indicate how hard she was working to make up for not finishing high-school in her teens, plus getting ready to open her own inn.
I started watching GG for the first time w my teenager(they talked me into it) we just got to season 7. I’m so glad you popped up on my recommendations. Your commentary is awesome.

I would love for you to do "Written in the Stars". It's a super interesting episode: we first meet Logan and Luke and Lorelai start officially dating. Also, "Presenting Lorelai Gilmore" is a wonderful and ( in my opinion) better view of the high class world Rory keeps trying to ignore that she likes.

Rewatching this a second time around got me all choked up. My relationship with my mother was nearly the same (which is why I love this show; it’s spot on). I never felt her pride for me except for when she got choked up on my wedding day. It completely shocked me. Now that I’m a mother myself (a very different kind), and my own mother has now passed, it hits me even deeper. Anyway, thanks for coming to my ted talk

emily gilmore is a force of nature and sometimes that messes with her relationships, but she loves her daughter and granddaughter more than just about anything in this world. emily takes awhile to like, and watching bits across seasons like this you can miss the smaller moments that build up her character. great ones happen in 2x3, 3x13, 3x22, 6x5, just off the top of my head. she's complicated and hard to like, tbh emily and richard both are, but if there's one thing to know about them it's that they love their girls.
6x05 is the one I bet he will love Emily, and poor Paris is so fun

It is hilarious, but I keep on reminding myself that he’s 16. It would be like shipping Rory and Luke (although I saw a comment someone shipping them).
When my brother was in high school our family went to every home game and usually had signs.
Away games that were in towns with family he would get baked goods and they would show up with us (if it was a close one) or without us (if it was too far away)
We knew all his teammates names and gave them baked goods as well.

i’ve seen this episode before, but never thought about this til now- if rory knew new york better, she could take the train from grand central to new haven and get on a bus from new haven to hartford. i’m from ct and i love this show but the inaccuracies drive me insane. that and the bus trip from new york to hartford is over 3 hours long so the timeline in this episode is all put of wack. she’d have to get on that bus long before people were arriving at graduation.

It is God awful and I skip most of it, the second worst is:
"The prodigal daughter returns" s6 ep9 April and Jess are kinda the worst. I only liked Jess on my first watch, I think I still had hope for him.
Here's the order: Dean, Jess, (Dean while married takes Rory's virginity) and then she hooks up with Logan at Yale. Rory's actual graduation from Yale is worth a look since Emily and Richard actually show emotion...as does the community.
I never feel like a "karen" until I watch this show.

pretty sure rory only has a pager at this point. and saying "before the age of cell phones" is pretty fair, they weren't widespread at least in stars hallow and the show at this point.
